    Bryan, you're the real deal. You methodically work through the project and never seem to get flustered. I'm 10 minutes in and I love the tip about marking the coolant lines and that u shaped tool to take the hoses off looks very handy. It's also nice to see you using some muscle to get stuff off. I tend to be too gentle with engines and it takes forever to get things done.
    I've heard of plenty of stories of Range Rovers costing a ton of money. I also know a mechanic who rebuilt the motor on one, using a lot of Ford parts, and he has a beautiful luxury car for cheap.
    Thanks for taking the time to film, and edit, this video. Keep them coming!

    Long drift and shot filled Snap-on hammer get the fan clutch off every time, ..as long as the serpentine belt is still on. Kudos on taking on the famous (or is it infamous) Range Rover (actually a 60-s era Buick 215 stretched over the years) aluminum V8. First one I did was back in '99, on a 95 and I also picked it up at auction with both head gaskets lunched. Nice vehicle once you make the engine bulletproof. I took mine to the machine shop had had the head bolts studded, and used racing gaskets. No more worries about blown head gaskets.

      This is not the Buick derived V8 - this is actually a Jaguar engine first introduced in the XJ.

    " First thing we need to do is get rid of the battery"...no, first thing you need to do is get rid of that thing!! LOL
    They dont nickel and dime ya to death, they $5K-10K you to death hahaha. Its a shame as much as these things cost the build quality is so poor on these. Sweet rides while they are running. I would fix it and send it packin' ASAP....but that's me. This thing is like an onion, keep peeling layer after layer to get to what you need lol. Nice tip on those vacuum hoses. Great video as usual Brother!! Good to see you wrenchin' again
    P.S ...success on my dodge rebuild!! Your video was helpful

    Bryan im getting ready to do this exact job. I picked up a 2007 4.2L from a old couple only reason i bothered was for $1000.00 i figured there has to be some profit in this thing. i new the HeadGasket "HG" was gone from the smell of exhaust in the coolant reservoir and the boiling effect when you fired it up. What i was hoping to find out from you was, what kit did you purchase for the HG replacement. Secondly what did you do about the head bolts did you buy a upgraded set of studs like ARP or just go with OEM bolts or just reuse the original hardware? Also any advise on special tools needed for the job such as timing gear puller or any funny odd ball british tools that need to be obtained prior to starting the job. were there any parts you wished you would have replaced or had to replace due to damage during the disassembly. I would really appreciate any insight on where to order the kit and special tools. Great video thank you for taking the time to show what you were doing and explaining your thoughts and ideas. one thing i have learned in this profession is the best mechanic is the one who listens to others cause you'll never know it all and theres is always somebody out there who has a technique that could save hours. i learned alot from your cool claim and collected approach of doing thing. keep it up 100% A+

    hey bryan I have a few RR but I just picked up a 07 4.2 SC that has high miles 188k but has a chain rattle on start up, goes away after first start. No other noises but a exhaust manifold type leak noise in the lower RPM. I was wondering how you knew the HG was gone? Can u give me some tips really appreciate it

    • @Bryan916
      @Bryan916  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was burning coolant in the combustion chamber! White smoke out the tailpipe and chronic overheating problem!

    • @bimmere60ify
      @bimmere60ify 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bryan916 thank you for the quick reply. Just two more questions. Reason I’m worried because there some bubbles in the coolant reservoir and has “exhaust leak” noise when revving and driving until 3k rpm and then it goes away. I got it for a steal but I could have paid a little more and gotten one without any issues. Reason I went for this is because it had brand new air suspension all around and the low price. I’m not an expert mechanic by any means more of a hobbyist. There wasn’t any smoke from the back of the car however. 1-10 how hard would you rate this job?

    • @Bryan916
      @Bryan916  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bimmere60ify Is it boiling type bubbles or air bubbles? Air bubbles in radiator could also be a thermostat issue if the thermostat is sporadically opening and closing. Difficulty level from 1 to 10....9
      Usually you can't hear exhaust gases going inside the cooling system sounds more like an external exhaust leak rather than an internal exhaust leak!

      Bryan916 The truck is at my place in Boston but if my memory is correct there was bubbles on top of the coolant reservoir. It was bubbling or boiling but I remember seeing several bubbles on top of the reservoir. I’ll be bringing the truck back to NY soon to be able to tear into more. Thanks again for your lighting fast replies and expertise ! :)

    I have like this range rover
    It blows a huge amount of white smoke
    I did valve seal replace but I still have too much smoke and a lot of oil in the supercharger
    Can you suppose what's issue ?

    • @Bryan916
      @Bryan916  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Burning Coolant in the cylinder most likely due to a blown head gasket, Warped or Cracked cylinder head. Take all 8 Spark plugs out and look into the cylinder with an inspection camera or a good flashlight to see if the top of any of the 8 pistons is cleaner than the other this will indicate that water or coolant is in the combustion chamber and is steam cleaning the piston. Or Pressure test the coolant system to see if it holds pressure!

      the smoke comes in the morning too much

    • @Bryan916
      @Bryan916  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zakaryaal-yafei7336 It sounds to me like a BLOWN HEAD GASKET when the engine is cold very small amounts of coolant is getting in the cylinder, not enough to notice right away, then as the engine heats up the metal will expand taking up the clearance and coolant can not get in. When the engine sits for 30mins and cools down the metal contracts to its normal size and coolant is able to enter again. : Rember White Smoke is Coolant, Blue tint smoke is oil
      Black smoke is too much fuel. This never changes!!

    • @Bryan916
      @Bryan916  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zakaryaal-yafei7336 Blue smoke is oil could be a Piston Ring issue or a PCV system problem. Does it smoke more when you accelerate? Or decelerate? That's important in determining if it's a Piston Ring problem or not.
