- The Texas cichlid , how to care for the Texas cichlid , this beautiful fish has been in our hobby for decades and really is an aquarium staple , are the as aggressive as people say ?
We catch ours in Louisiana 😂😂
Thats a Rio Honcho cichlid, not a Texas. Texas much more a grey color
Seems like a pretty chill one to me. How big is your tank?
I like all central and south american cichlids. I have got RedDevils, Barred Midas, Texas, Oscars, Chocolate, Vieja and Jack Dempsey all in the same tank they look great. Cannot wait for mine to get as big as your specimen.
Your tank water is so dirty, lots of particles are floating in the water
Stunning Texas Cichlid Andy 💯 New Sub mate
They are in indeed , appreciated the sub my man 👍🏻
@@aquaticswithandy8628 what do you feed it for great color and big size?
Question: what are the differences between the sexes? I think it's something to do with forehead and fin shape? I have one with that little dent in the forehead and it seems they are starting to get faint darker stripes on the back half of the body. The fins have a slight point at the edges (the back fin that isn't tail and the top one) he's slightly bigger than my hand, smaller than 20 cm.
Beautiful fish and he is very cute
Oh there from Texas! That’s why they so aggressive
Many years ago I had a few various cichlids and one pictus cat in a 55g, they were all about 3-5 inches at the time. One day I was feeding them little bits of steak. Most of it was eaten by the cichlids on sight, but occasionally they would miss a piece and it would sink to the bottom where the catfish would find it by following the scent. One time as the catfish found a piece and began to eat it, a Texas cichlid that was sitting a couple of inches away suddenly lashed out in rage a tore the catfish's eye out. I was shocked, and upset because I had purchased the catfish a few days earlier, and I really enjoyed watching the him find the food by following the scent. The next day the catfish was dead, with eyes and it's internal organs eaten out. I didn't dare waste anymore money on another pictus cat to replace it.
My Texas cichlid ate my Jack Dempsey, along with my African cichlids and algae eaters. He’s the only one left in the tank now.
Does he attack your Blue Acara ?
As far as taking on other peoples fish, you hit the jackpot with this one, very nice!
Get a microphone, 😂
😂 it’s on the list 👍🏻
I think blue light will make its colours pop
Yea for sure , my blue LED is broken at the mo but makes a huge difference 👍🏻
Seems fairly chill to me.
Great tank mate I'd love a tank like this for my cichlids
Appreciate it mate , mate it happen 👍🏻
I got a Texas cichlid from a breader he was 2 inches and I put him in my 75 gallon African cichlid tank. A year later he's almost 8 inches and dominates the tank
They grow well don’t they , such a presence in a tank 👍🏻
& ur actually able to keep ‘em as a tank mate w Africans??? That’s been impossible for me w any of my S American cichlids
The shining color of acara chiclid so adorable.. 🥰😘😍🤩
Fantastic aren’t they , so underrated in the hobby
Just got one ,about 5” beautiful fish
They really are mate , enjoy
Loving the channel mate big thumbs up 👍
Appreciate it mate 👍🏻
I recently acquired 3 2" Texas Cichlids and I have them in a small outdoor connecting pond. I live in NY state, should I take them in, in winter ? Or, should I put them in w my koi fish in the slow moving stream w an outdoor heater in winter ? 5:04 6:41
The pond is medium size and fed by a continuous stream of water on one end and a small waterfall on the opposite end.
All the ponds in my area of upstate NY are fed by well water and run off from rain water.
The pond freezes over in winter and has some 6"koi and a variety of small mouth bass about 2" to 10" in size. Its basically very clear and clean and it has plant life around the periphery and some beautiful light green algae in the shallows.
All the fish appear to get along. I won't allow the Cichlids out of the small pond into the big pond until I find out if they will survive the winter in the big pond.
I can put them in the stream w the other Koi population I have w an outdoor heater which allows the water to keep flowing all year round. The falls never freeze either and year after year the current fish population keeps on thriving. 7:01
Can i keep red Texas with angelfish?
Hmmm & u can keep him w ur EBA’s which is impressive that he’s not beating on them as EBA’s are very passive imo.
awesome video. would love to keep one again
Thanks I appreciate it , go get One 👍🏻🇬🇧
Бриллиантовая цихлазома очень красивая рыба, но гоняет всех за свою территорию. 👍
Looks more like a Carpintis than a Texas.
Great video
Thanks!
I have a juvenile blue Texas cichlid about 2.5” long right now, I’m trying to find help from someone that might be able to help me with him. Please let me know if you can help, I feel like it’s been a weird but frustrating situation!
Hi what’s the situation or issue your having
Just got a 4” blue Texas cichlid from my local fish store for 15$ because he had so many in stock 🤙
Nice !! Fantastic fish
Thanks for sharing! I'm about to rescue one from my work that I was told was a Texas but may or may not be a Carpintis cichlid. Trying to research all the info I can.
Thanks , quite a few cichlids get miss identified and sometimes you end up with something you wasn’t expecting lol 😂
Great topic & guide. I loved 😍 it
Appreciate that mate 👍🏻
How do you differentiate between juvenile male and female Texas?
When they are young it is quite difficult without venting , if for any reason you have to net your fish or move then just have a quick look , a female should have a small hole and next too a egg tube like a U shape and the male usually has a small hole and more of a V shape second one , hope that helps , allot easier when they start to mature with the males showing more colour and developing a bit of a hump instead of a gradual slope over the head 👍🏻
@@aquaticswithandy8628 Thanks ♥️
@@aquaticswithandy8628 at what age of the fish can we identify through venting?
Usually around a year or 3-4 inches , when the organs become developed enough 👍🏻
How fast do they hrow to that size? Thanks for sharing 💯💗👍✌️
Hi mark , the largest I have now are around 5 inches and that has taken around 1 year , they have also started to pair up and I have had fry from them , at time of the video they were all around 5-6 months 👍🏻
The bigger the tank the better I had mine in a 75 for a while but had to separate cause she was fighting every thing in the tank (2 eclipse catfish, jack Dempsey, bumblebee cichlid and a red fin borleyi) she didn’t really mess with the red fin though and he was the chillest of them. Moved to a 20 gallon when she was about 3” now in a 55 and about 9” and maybe 4 years old. Would love to have her in a community style tank. And they will arrange their tank the way they want it lol.
What size tank is that?
Hi it’s a 5x2x2.5
@@aquaticswithandy8628 what would that be in gallons or liters?
It’s basically a 180 gallon tall , just under 700 litre , with a 200 litre sump on this one 👍🏻
@@aquaticswithandy8628 thank u
