Rarely do I get an ammonia spike, and my fish are clearly happy - in my 5 star fish hotel!!

    Question: what are the differences between the sexes? I think it's something to do with forehead and fin shape? I have one with that little dent in the forehead and it seems they are starting to get faint darker stripes on the back half of the body. The fins have a slight point at the edges (the back fin that isn't tail and the top one) he's slightly bigger than my hand, smaller than 20 cm. Beautiful fish and he is very cute

    I got American electric blue acara with African electric blue johanii together in one tank, and unfortunately, my American blue acara got killed by African Johanii -- it keeps chasing and bite American blue acara even though it is much smaller than acara. I had to remove the African johanii last week and gave it back to the store.

    Many years ago I had a few various cichlids and one pictus cat in a 55g, they were all about 3-5 inches at the time. One day I was feeding them little bits of steak. Most of it was eaten by the cichlids on sight, but occasionally they would miss a piece and it would sink to the bottom where the catfish would find it by following the scent. One time as the catfish found a piece and began to eat it, a Texas cichlid that was sitting a couple of inches away suddenly lashed out in rage a tore the catfish's eye out. I was shocked, and upset because I had purchased the catfish a few days earlier, and I really enjoyed watching the him find the food by following the scent. The next day the catfish was dead, with eyes and it's internal organs eaten out. I didn't dare waste anymore money on another pictus cat to replace it.

    I recently acquired 3 2" Texas Cichlids and I have them in a small outdoor connecting pond. I live in NY state, should I take them in, in winter ? Or, should I put them in w my koi fish in the slow moving stream w an outdoor heater in winter ? 5:04 6:41 The pond is medium size and fed by a continuous stream of water on one end and a small waterfall on the opposite end. All the ponds in my area of upstate NY are fed by well water and run off from rain water. The pond freezes over in winter and has some 6"koi and a variety of small mouth bass about 2" to 10" in size. Its basically very clear and clean and it has plant life around the periphery and some beautiful light green algae in the shallows. All the fish appear to get along. I won't allow the Cichlids out of the small pond into the big pond until I find out if they will survive the winter in the big pond. I can put them in the stream w the other Koi population I have w an outdoor heater which allows the water to keep flowing all year round. The falls never freeze either and year after year the current fish population keeps on thriving. 7:01

      The bigger the tank the better I had mine in a 75 for a while but had to separate cause she was fighting every thing in the tank (2 eclipse catfish, jack Dempsey, bumblebee cichlid and a red fin borleyi) she didn’t really mess with the red fin though and he was the chillest of them. Moved to a 20 gallon when she was about 3” now in a 55 and about 9” and maybe 4 years old. Would love to have her in a community style tank. And they will arrange their tank the way they want it lol.

    Great content! Can i please get your opinion on my 55g setup. Currently I have a full grown colony of 12 albino corydoras, 1 adult red eye tetra, and 1 recently purchased EBA. in a planted tank. Right now everyone gets along great. My question is would a breeding pair be ok in a 55 with all those corydoras? I was contemplating buying more EBA's from tbe same shop/ same size in hopes 2 will pair off, and rehome the other EBA's. Thank you in advance!!! Subbed for future content!!😎

    • @aquaticswithandy8628
      @aquaticswithandy8628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks for the great feedback , like most cichlids EBAs get very aggressive and territorial when paired up and guarding eggs/fry , this isn’t always a problem if there is plenty of space for other fish to avoid them and they are tough hardly fish , large cichlids ect , with a 55 potentially they may class the whole tank as the area that needs protecting and therefore damage your corydoras. It sounds like everyone is getting on well and you have a good thing going on , you may ruin that balance once 2 of them pair up but that won’t be until there are probably about 4 inches in size , i would add the EBAs , wait a year or so until you start to see a pair forming then give them a tank of there own , doesn’t have to be big , but just them and a small sponge filter would be enough , hope that helps

    • @aquaticswithandy8628
      @aquaticswithandy8628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda , yea EBA can get alone fine with angelfish as long as you don t have a breeding pair , EBA get very aggressive when egg laying and they are a bit too boisterous and bulky for the more delicate angelfish so just be careful , as for parrots I have never had them together but EBAs are generally good with all but the largest and aggressive cichlids

    • @aquaticswithandy8628
      @aquaticswithandy8628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lee thanks , it’s a tough one cos given time they do grown to a fairly good size like 6 inch for example and you don’t want them to fee crowded so bigger is always better , saying that they don’t grow to fast so you couldn’t defiantly start a few in a 40 for a while with no problems and maybe look for a group in a 75 more long term 👍🏻
