    This is the best explanation of arm knitting that I have found anywhere! Thank you. I had a lot of questions in my mind about stitch size and the size of the finished product and you answered those. It is really nice to know the details and you cover them with your coffee cup analogy, how to stop and start again with a belt or yard stick, stitch measurements and everything. Thank you so much!

    Hi there! I have never knitted before and I’m dying to try to make one of these things. I am caught between arm knitting, and Tunisian crocheting, but I think I’m gonna try this first. My question to you is if I want to make a sofa size blanket how do I do that? Of course your arm is not long enough to make a blanket wide enough, so am I making strips and then darning together?? thank you for the tutorial. It’s lovely to learn something new.

    • @woolcouture1752
      @woolcouture1752  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For a sofa I would make a 60” x 40” blanket. I allow 2.2” per st so you would cast on 18 sts. This is a very manageable size to put on your arms. I have had upto 30 but this wasn’t pleasant. Some of it is down to the size of your arms. My daughter is so thin her arms are straight up and down and she has no problem fitting in lots of sts versus myself whose arms are a little chunkier. Hope all of this is helpful? Xx

    This is my first time arm knitting. I would like to knit a lap blanket for my mother to put over her legs (she is in a wheelchair) for when unannounced "company" comes by our home. As I said in my first comment your video has helped me so much because you start of with your left arm and..... I am working with "Loops & Threads" Ariel BIG! 20.5 yds/8.8 oz • 19 m/250 g. It is an acrylic yarn. I have 4 skeins and my mother used to own a shop here in our town and used to knit, yet at 88 years of age she cannot remember how to do the math to determine stitches per in., and so on. That’s the downside to arm knitting it’s reliant on how many stitches you can get on your arms. My daughter has really thin arms compared to me and can get stitches all the way up to her elbows and hence can make bigger blankets than I can. Xx

    • @woolcouture1752
      @woolcouture1752  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does naturally shed and I tend to pull the bits off. A bit like when you have a pure wool jumper. Also when I have made a blanket I put it over a washing line and mist the blanket with a squirty bottle and let it dry. This seems to reduce the shedding. This will only work with 100% wool like our epic extreme. Xx

      Hi Dannii, To make a blanket for the bottom of a double size bed I would normally use 4kg or 6kg for a kingsize bed.
      Happy knitting!

    Ok I did it! It looks great too but I see how to tie off the working yarn but how about the tail end (non working yarn) how do we do that since it is already has the knot but is still hanging down. Do we tie that off again or just thread it through the ends?

      Wool Couture thank you very much! Loved this video. Where do you get your merino wool. The merino wool I bought on Amazon seems very stringy in parts and even though I did the felting in the washing machine recommended by becoming those stringy parts did not felt well.

    do these blankets usually shed a lot? Or does it depend on the quality of yarn you get. I saw one at someone's house and there was a whole cat worth of lint on their sofa from it.

I started at 11am and there's just a little bit left to go and the whole 4kg ball will be done. I've only ever knitted socks and scarfs conventionally so thanks so much for this! This technique can only be used with the amount of stitches you can comfortably get on your arms. For example my daughter having very thin, straight arms can get a lot more stitches on than I can. Claire x
