    Love John Wetton's box set. John was a masterful bassist, lead vocalist and song writer. I have heard that he is a absolute joy to work with and as a friend. His career in music is enormous and spectacular. Truly underrated! The book is really outstanding and amazing that your presentation just can't give it the due it deserves. It is worth every penny. I just ordered the CD and CD/DVD versions of John Wetton Anthology and Steve Hackett box set that you showed the CD only version just today.

    I saw the first ASIA tour. Great live.
    After a 1999 Tull concert I asked Martin Barre to sign a cd copy (it was rare then) of Wetton’s “Caught in the Crossfire”. Martin looked at me and said “I don’t even have this!”
    I turn 67 in a few weeks…..

      Please let me know what you think of it. Is a famous album for me, because I bought it on vinyl the week it came out and first listen - I didn't really care for it. My sister started listening to my copy and said she loved it and I went back and fell in love with it - then saw them live for that tour. It's my #3 Wishbone Ash album. First song I fell in love with from it was Loaded. Even love the cover of Get Ready eventually. Then eventually loved every song.

    Hi 👋 I should know him. But thanks for enlightening me. I like Uriah Heep, Roxy Music . I love 1970s music. I was young then. It was a good time of experimentation. Al the different music genres. Funk , Punk , Reggae, Soul , Disco, Heavy Metal , Country , New Wave , have i missed anything out ?. Wonderful decade it was.

      Was the best time for music, in my opinion. To this day, still my favorite music, so many genres, radio was good, records sold, tons of record stores, concerts were affordable - was a great time.

    Very nice tribute and that looks like a real cool box set. It is a pity that he's not better known in the U.S. although I think that American prog fans do rate him highly. Many of those albums are often talked about on prog channels. It's always nice to see him mentioned so this was really enjoyable.

      Thanks as always Mark. I just always felt with all he’s done and of course that big but relatively short lived success with Asia, he’d individually be more well known in the US beyond us big prog fans. So much of his stuff is not really proggy but melodic catchy should have been hits. But I’m thrilled they did this beautifully done box of the solo studio albums and a book to come in the future. He deserves it. Best Alan.

    Great tribute to the great man. WOW - I was very excited to see that first up CD -"Family" - one of my fav prog bands back in the day. Saw them live many times and never failed to deliver. Great songs but never commercial - a couple of minor "hits" - really popular in the UK and Europe - America - NO !! Great to see you have some of their music.
    Music in a Dolls House" a classic. Asia - what a fine first album that was - again a classic. One brilliant CD I didnt see there, which I have is "FANTASIA - Live In Tokyo" 2CD set - brilliant. I put Wetton very much in the same bracket as Chris Squire and Greg Lake. Great musicians . songwriters. On a totally different subject - Squire and Hackett - the album "Squackett" - a fine fine album, amazing songwriting and playing. All these guys put out some wonderful music. Cheers Doug

      @@douglasweston126 In the 70's, prog was huge in America - Floyd, Genesis, Tull, Yes, ELP would even sell out the largest arenas and stadiums. Moody Blues - so many. Later on Kansas, Styx (I saw the Grand Illusion tour - was fantastic). Even 2nd tier like Nektar had big followings. Then it kind of died out. But I loved prog and it was big - even lower bands - Triumvirat, Starcastle (kind of like Yes sound) - were so many. Was a great time Doug. But Family - not to my memory - though Music In A Doll's House - yes - had a great album cover too.

    John Wetton is so deserving of this great tribute that you have given him. Never getting the kind of recognition that he merited for his songwriting, deep vocals and bass, guitar and keyboard playing, Wetton has a resume that most working musicians can only dream about. He was a giant in progressive rock
    (e.g. his early career work playing live with Renaissance, his big break being asked to join King Crimson and his crowning glory as the co-founder and lead vocalist of, as well as a songwriter for, Asia). However, he was also no slouch when it came to the hard rock he played with some of the bands you mentioned. The cherry on top of your video is the unboxing of “John Wetton - An Extraordinary Life.” It is absolutely delicious (in keeping with the food metaphor).

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow

      I had no idea he played with Renaissance. And I'm a huge Renaissance fan. Maybe the before Annie Haslam Renaissance? They had a couple of albums that I don't have. Interesting. I'll have to look that up. Thanks as always.

      @ronalaurence4105 หลายเดือนก่อน

      John played bass for Renaissance on some of the band’s tour dates in 1971, the year that Annie Haslam joined the band. Of their time playing together, Annie has sang John’s praises for his bass playing and for being an all-around good guy. The majority of John’s stints in bands lasted only about a year, give or take. Short but always solid.

    Since discovering this channel I've been on a binge, thanks for all the worthwhile content. Wetton is indeed an unsung hero, another singing bass player. My favorite sliver in time in his history is late '73/early '74, immediately before & after David Cross quit and Crim recorded Red as a trio. I saw rock acts like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Procol Harum, & The Doors back in the day but never saw King Crimson (not with Wetton anyway, but did see Fripp, Bruford, Levin & Belew calling themselves that). The Great Deceiver box set helps ease the pain though.

      @@DAGDRUM53 Absolutely. And music is one of the most personal things that a person can experience. Affects our emotions, memories, feelings. Happiness, Sadness - runs the gamut. and no right or wrong. We all love what we love and that's the only thing that matters. All we can do is spread the word on what we love to help turn others on. So many young don't really experience music like we did. Now it's often just background and more extraneous "noise" out in the world.

    • @DAGDRUM53
      @DAGDRUM53 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheAlanRosenbergShow That's 100% truth. But inevitably some of it relies on the difference in perception between innocence and experience (or youth & long-lived wisdom). Entertain the notion as senior citizens it's your and my duty to automatically dismiss the music of youth as mindless noise. I remember the first time my dad heard Robert Plant sing ('you shook me aw aw aw all night looooong') he asked me, "Is that guy dying?" You have no idea how much Plant's stock shot up in my perception when papa-san registered his disapproval and disdain. Everyone young and old likes music, give or take a few grouches. Music soothes the savage beast isn't just a saying, you've seen videos of a herd of cows running to hear some guy in their pasture playing a bad trombone. Plants grow better in homes where music is played, but Motorhead will kill them faster than Roundup. Music bonds people, gives them an identity in some cases. I get as choked up when I see all those old punks together at a Sex Pistols concert singing the words 45 years later as I do watching a quarter million people in Red Square singing Back In The USSR along with Paul McCartney. As I aged I didn't see any teens that didn't have Metallica written on their shirt or hat, it helped kids feel like they belonged to something; but it distanced 35-year-old me, or that was my perception. The kids did nothing to make me feel old, I did that to myself.

      @@DAGDRUM53 That's true. But the age of "albums" is almost dead for the youth of today. View buy albums and most that do don't even own a turntable (and certainly not a CD player). It's a streaming world and songs are streamed, not albums. They're largely missing out on the enjoyment of listening to complete albums...taking a musical journey over a 45 - 60 minute voyage. Although the Swifties (Taylor Swift) fans certainly know her albums. Almost like when rock and roll started, people bought singles. It's kind of like that.

CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland .... p.s. did you notice that Asia have just announcef US gigs with Focus, Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash combo and Curved Air? ... not sure if the gigs are near your NY, Long Island, new Jersey area though.

      Thanks. Yes I heard about the tour yesterday and hitting a great venue on Long Island. Tickets are pricey but getting four bands so I get it. Problem for me is Asia. It’s just Downes and typically that kind of stuff just really bothers me. Basically a cover band. And since I saw the real band it’s not that appealing. But Martin turners Wishbone ash is playing and they have only played in the us once and I saw it. With Nektar. Was fantastic. Problem is he’ll probably get like 20 minutes. I’d like to see focus too. I’m on the fence with this. Of the reunion Asia albums none are essential. But if the four check out Phoenix. Was the first and has An Extraordinarily Life on it. As for Asia live. I have three. Fantasia live in Tokyo really good. Live in z Moscow also really good but not Steve Howe. Has Pat Thrall but still really good. Tons of official boots to choose from. I have Nottingham also with Thrall. It’s good. Ovaerall live I’d go with Fantasia live in Tokyo. Best Alan
