Hi everyone. Quick apology, I realize the energy on this video is a bit lower than our usual standard. With everything going on in the world it's honestly a little difficult to get hyped about X-wing. Please stay safe.
Glad you are making x wing videos again. It is bad with stuff ongoing. Believe it or not these types of videos helps me at least stave away the depression caused by the relality of the bad situations happening in this world at this time. I appreciate its hard to be up beat at this time. YOU and Justin are good blokes.. thanks for the video and information.
Tried this out a couple of weeks ago. It was actually pretty good. Played Resistance vs AI FO; I lost, the only ship remaining was a 1 hull TIE/ba. The AI did a few wonky maneuvers, but overall, pretty fun. It felt good pushing plastic ships again.
I for one was always excited when there was the scenario insert back in 1.0. I used to think I was alone or one of a few, and then FFG release the Epic Battles pack. That is just a box of scenario goodness!!
Hi guys, hope you're keeping well and staying safe. I have play tested this a couple of time now, and, bearing in mind that it is the Alpha version, it does feel a bit kluncky but it did also appear reasonably balanced. On both occasions I have beaten the game but I have ended with one ship remaining with one hull left! Sometimes, some of the solo movements and attitude dictated actions are tactically questionable and dumb at best. Overall I had fun, & shall keep play testing it. Would be very interesting to see what you guys think 😎👍
I like that FFG have done this, but I'd rather play Fly Casual for my solo X-Wing fix. I think I might give this a try in the future when tournaments are starting up again, to get some practice at physical maneuvering again.
I love that FFG are expanding X-wing content beyond the standard 1 on 1 competitive format. The AI rules released here seem both less sophisticated and more complicated to evaluate than the ones which have been already produced by the community for HOTAC and Flight Group Alpha. These rules are simple to follow and uses the same chart for every ship, but you have to look up manoeuvres that the ship has, and the decisions made by the AI are extremely limited. The AI with Flight Group Alpha (which is based on HOTAC but updated to X-Wing 2.0 and includes AI for most ships in 5 factions) is simpler to use because you simply roll a D6 and consult the manoeuvre chart for the range and direction of the target. Because the charts are unique for every ship the manoeuvres are already tuned for what that ship is most likely to do in a given situation, so the ships fly smarter than they do with the FFG AI and without having to consult the ship's dial, ind include special situation manoeuvres such as when the ships are stressed. In addition to manoeuvres the ship charts include a chart for action selection which is just a top-to-bottom list of situations and you take the first action in the list that matches the situation (e.g. top of the list is to use the action to remove a crit damage card). These AI charts can of course be used outside of the campaign game, and are in fact what the Fly Casual app uses for it's AI. Also there is an app for the HOTAC AI which is being updated to use the Flight Group Alpha charts, so you won't need to print all the charts out or use them from a PDF. And finally HOTAC and FGA are extremely good fun and well worth your time if you do like the idea of a co-op or solo campaign. boardgamegeek.com/filepage/161035/flight-group-alpha-imperial-co-operative-campaign
Also another quick tip if you want to fly against swarms is to use the FFG group formation templates. Pick one ship at a front corner to be the leader and pick and execute the manoeuvre for that ship, then use the formation tool to place the other ships around it, only breaking individual ships out of formation to avoid landing on an obstacle, and giving all ships the same action.
Just a quick note; there is the Deluxe Movement Tools and Range Ruler that is plastic that goes up to range 5, as well as the cardboard range rulers from the Epic expansion. Love the channel. I can't imagine what it takes for you guys to coordinate and make these videos with the current situation as it is. Keep up the great work and stay safe.
I know u guys are ready for the isolation to end. Here in the states (depending on where u live) its a mixed bag. Where I live everything is almost back to normal. About the only thing still enforced is the 6ft rule in stores. Things are going great here. Hopefully yall in Australia will get to do the same soon. It was a lot of fun playing XWing with friends in person.
I thought/hoped this would have worked through iphone/ipad cameras. Newer iphones are really good at measuring distances and through that the AI could move much more accurately than a human player
Fly casual should just have an option that you could imput your own dice rolls, (rolling real dice and imputing the results) The dice in thier program really follows a pattern that i can usually predict.
Actually the dice rolling in Fly Casual is completely random. It simulates actual dice rolling by placing 3D modelled dice in the air, randomised rotations on each of the 3 axes, and drops them onto the table, letting simulated gravity further change them from their starting random rotation.
@@whittaker007 Most of the time the rolls favor the A.I. when i out manuver its squadron. (Basically very simple since it just charges at you) and the first few rounds. the dice rolls favor me after i destroy a ship. It happens so many times that it feels like a pattern, i actually roll my physical dice along with the A.I. out of curiosity sometimes there's a huge difference (my dice being much more fickle of course) I'd still like an imput option to throw real dice, otherwise the game is great, and a huge learning tool.

Energy was not an issue, I´m hyped about hearing how testing the solo mode goes. :)
Totally understood! Ironically, I'm going to be playing X-Wing with real people on Friday. All are known to be free of Corona Virus.

As a household 1.0 player, I loved those scenarios
I hope they can develop this a bit more. Would be fun to see what other ideas can come from it

Yes, I do like fly casual but will give this a crack. Love mini ships

Fact: FFG X-Wing playtests with Vassal.

What is this HO-TAC you speak of and were can I find it?
I found this page, you know it, what do you think about this AI?
