this was a tough video to make. not only was it literally difficult editing with my left hand on a mouse pad lol, but it was hard to relive the events, especially after so much anticipation and excitement around this trip for a long time. i am embarrassed, feel pathetic and anxious about what happened, but most importantly I feel awful for letting a lot of people down. aspen snowmass worked super hard to bring a trip like this together for us and unfortunately, nothing went according to plan. however, this is a part of my journey and story as an average guy just trying to get the most out of my time here. the surgeon did a fantastic job and luckily, it is a very small injury in the grand scope of my life. i require a few weeks away from impact sports, but hopefully i will be able to be back on the road bike soon.
Unfortunately, this is part of mountain biking and many other outdoor sports. I've also had a broken finger, and many other injuries, but I chose not to have surgery due to the longer recovery time after surgery. The only drawback is that the finger doesn't align with the others very well...😜 Time to hike! Wish you a speedy recovery.
don't live for others. why we value this channel is you dont live for others - its your story. this is a terrible thing that happened to you - not them. having your head in the right spot will also increase your recovery, don't spend precious healing energy worrying about nonsense
Heal up strong Dude! You never let us down - Just take care of yourself, the mountains aren't going anywhere and we hope you can join us again soon. Hope your fam and Tara take good care of you! Much love from us here in Aspen Snowmass!!! Thanks for the stoke!!!
Thanks so much for another absolute unforgettable experience crew. I definitely have unfinished business there at Aspen Snowmass and it just left me eager to come back there and really do that place justice. Hopefully, I will make another trip out there before the seasons change but if not, I’ll definitely be out there this winter.
@@LucasCatania17 Love to hear it! You're inspiring as you are kind! Practice up, you got unfinished business here next summer and let's put that number plate to use! ;)
I gotta say Lucas, Your videos have came a long way in the past few years. The videography is absolutely insane. the dedication to effort and getting the best mixture of shots and storytelling. With both summer and skiing videos.
Praying for your speedy recovery! Thanks for bringing your full authentic self at every step along your journey. You and Tara are just the best together... so much fun to watch!
Lucas, you inspire all of us! We love you dude! Take this time to heal, breathe and know we’re all rooting for you brother! This temporary pause will make you stronger, wiser, and give you another story to tell your kids and grandkids someday. Your best is yet to come my friend…Be well!
Get well soon, Lucas. Although the Snowmass trip may not have gone as planned, you still put out an awesome video showcasing the many activities in the area. You have the entire Stoke Squad supporting you and we wish you a speedy recovery!!
I feel for you man! Spent most of last ski season out with cracked ribs and it sucks, moreso for you making some part of your living off the channel. Do what you need to heal up fully and get back out there!
Bummer to hear that man cracked ribs must be so painful. Definitely gotta take some time so this heals right but I’m also excited to get back out there.
Noooooo heal up soon man🙏🏻I’ve loved watching your progression on the bike since last summer. You’ve been KILLING IT! It always happens on the easy stuff and when you least expect it.
@@LucasCatania17, you did not let anyone down , command your spirit - I command my spirit to to heal, balance and regulate my body now 54321 and snap your fingers . It works !
you didn't let anyone down lucas. ur good bro it happens to the best of us. mountain biking is such a tough sport. don't feel ashamed about your hand injury i've seen way worse that have put people out for a whole season.
Hey Lucas! Just wanted to send and share some support. I broke my pointer finger snowboarding at the very top of a run a couple of years back (not even going down the mountain yet!). My finger had pins just like yours does now. I felt totally embarrassed in the same way, but my doctor noted that warm-ups are exactly when these things occur because your body and brain both aren't fully in the zone yet. I know you'll heal up quick and get back at it, and just wanted to say that you're amazing for overcoming your fear of skiing, mountain biking, and now surgery. It all takes guts, and I hope you feel proud of yourself for taking care of yourself and all of those around you (including the Aspen Snowmass team). A quick piece of advice for getting range of motion and full hand use back: start lifting weighs as soon as youre medically cleared for it (after physical therapy or occupational therapy clears you). I babied my hand for too long, but it wasn't until I started lifting consistently a year after the accident that my finger and hand are feeling good and strong again. I especially recommend pull ups and farmers carries, focusing on really squeezing your fingers around the bar for pullups/whatever you're carrying for farmers carries, and relaxing the upper traps while doing so (this forces the fingers to the do the work, not upper traps compensating for the weaker hands). You're a beast and I know you'll recover soon, just trust the process and know we're all rooting for you!
It took me a little while to get the time to watch this one all the way through but brother, this vlog really gave me some inspiration and stoke. Thank you for everything you do to bring us along on this journey of yours. 🙏 for your recovery and thank you to all of the medical staff that helped take care of you 🙏
I appreciate that man. I’m grateful for your support from the beginning and I’m glad this video still provided some stoke for you. We’ll be back out there soon
I’m not super into mountain biking so I haven’t watched any of your videos this summer but just the beginning of this video where you were biking you looked so much better than last summer when I watched some of your videos back then. You’re improving crazy fast and I hope you have a quick recovery 🤞
You're ability to break your hand and still put out a sick video is just remarkable! Heal up man, you never let us down and have only exceeded expectations.
I am so sorry you got hurt Lucas. Typical of you, the show must go on and you carried on recording when I’m sure you just wanted to go home. It is so professional of you to carry on even when you’re in pain. Please take the time you need to heal, don’t try to rush back before you are mended. I’m glad you had your best girl there to support you. Peace, love and joy to you all.
Thank you James. It was a little difficult at first the carry-on because I was pretty upset, but I knew it was the right thing to do. I will definitely take a little bit of time away from high impact sports, but don’t plan to be gone for too long.
Sorry this happened Lucas. Snowmass is my favorite bike park. Your videos got me into mountain biking, I will be at Snowmass this Saturday. You covered the Snowmass vibe beautifully. Such a wonderful place. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Love your work.
I have been putting this one off since you posted it. I knew how excited you were for the trip and was bummed myself that it had happened. I guess not watching it made me think it would have not happened, but this video was a true silver lining to that dark cloud. Awesome look at Colorado in the end. Definatly liked the you and Tara enjoying your stay. Favorite video moments: 6:03 what a cheeky little edit there. 20:56 good timing. and you making race car noises down the track. You know what they say, "When God gives you lemonade, you get a new God". (Bonus points if you know where that line is from)
Sucks that this happened man:( But when you look back at it? Don’t feel embarrassed or upset! It happens mountain biking and sometimes there is nothing we can do about it. I had something like this happen to me, I didn’t break anything but I took all the skin off my forearms from sliding when I crashed. Loved the video, loved seeing Tara, loved the stoke! Chin up, heal up, stoke up!! Yeewwww
Oof, sucks ending your day on the bike first lap out. Hope the healing process goes well. You did the resort good. Probably showed us a lot more of what's there than if you had just biked all day!
Lucas, I am 62 and have had a variety of injuries from Baskeball, skiing and MTBing. At your age, and the fact that your MTB journey is just starting, you should get it fixed, for sure! Based on what the Dr. said about how it would have healed with no surgery, it could also affect your grip strength...something not really known, but very important to the MTBing experience. You will heal in no time. It will be a blip in your life.....
Thank you sir. You are 100% right. While the injury would’ve healed without surgery, Some of the side effects are lack of grip strength, and overall deformities in the hand, which at 30 years old I don’t think I would want for the rest of my life. I’m happy I got the surgery and I’m looking forward to recovery over the next few weeks.
Wishing you a speedy recovery! Despite the injury I actually loved the video - could tell you really made the effort to explore Aspen and I thought it was phenomenal - despite not being what you planned. Thanks for being vulnerable with the stoke squad, much love!
Thank you James. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and I’m glad you enjoyed the video I figured even despite the broken hand being in such a beautiful place like Aspen it’s hard not to make the most of it. I just wish I could’ve done them justice.
I empathize with your feeling like you let others and yourself down and I admire your ability to stay level headed about this. It's easy to beat yourself up about what could've been. Wishing you a speedy recovery and sending my love over there ❤️
I really appreciate that Peter. It’s nice to hear from you. I would be lying if I said that I stayed levelheaded throughout this whole thing as I was pretty upset in the beginning. But I’m grateful it wasn’t worse and I know that I will get better in due time
You are so awesome Lucas, we are just happy that you are OK!!! That's more important than any summer video. Even if you're not mtb we would still watch anything you upload.
Hope you have a speedy recovery dude! Great video and I’m glad you still got to kind of enjoy yourself, used to live in Glenwood Springs love that and the Aspen area, even the hiking there is pretty sick.
Lucas take it slow, let that thing heal so you are ready for winter. Sometimes shit happens, at least your legs are OK. I skied an entire season with a torn rotator cuff, I couldn't lift my arm past my waist, the only time it hurt was on deep powder days otherwise I put off the surgery until April (I'm not much on spring skiing). Hoping for a fast recover dude!
Thanks Steve. I heard rotator, cuffs and shoulders are among the worst surgeries to have. I’m grateful it’s just my pinky, and should be good to go for the winter.
Hey Lucas, so sorry about your injury and surgery! You are so brave! I guess it’s one of those years! I fell and broke my clavicle (collar bone) almost a month ago, and am coming along without the need for surgery. You will heal much faster by having surgery. 👍 I will continue to follow your course of recovery and I wish you the best! Hang in there, you are young and strong and I know you will do well! God bless you! 🙏🤞🥰
Hope you have a quick recovery. Good choice with the surgery. I had a terrible snowboard season last year where I badly sprained my ankle and broke my collarbone on the first day of my 2 snowboard trips. Thinking of giving up the sport.
Sorry to hear that you broke your hand! I really feel your pain because I too broke something but at the end of this ski season. If it makes you feel any better about breaking something on a warm up lap, I fully fractured my right arm, my dominant arm, from catching an edge on a green going maybe 10mph (granted I was snowboarding when I’m typically a skier), and I’m still recovering now. So anything is possible! Hope you get better quickly - you’ll be good in no time at all!
All the best for a speedy recovery and see you before you know it in the Fieldhouse to get ready for ski season lol. I’m still recovering from the broken leg so I feel ya
Looks like you made the most of your trip! Freak accidents occur... Broke a couple of ribs mountain biking after my front wheel got jammed in some roots, broke the same ribs 2 months later on a jet ski... Just be thankful you didnt screw up your shoulder.....
Here's to a quick recovery to be 100% for ski season! Might be the camera perspective, but it definitely looks like you were moving pretty quick through those trees.
Lucas, you’re a beast man and I have loved your content for the past two years. You definitely didn’t let anyone down! This was a great video. Heal up, stoked to see you back out on the mountains in a few weeks!!
This video was exciting in another way. Its cool to see that Mr. Talent Lucas is still human. Keep up the vlog while you're down bro! Its my favorite part fs!
hey Lucas, heal up and get better man! i love watching your videos especially the mountain biking ones because im a mountain biker too. i know exactly how you felt about surgery because of a skiing accident i had a couple years ago that required surgery to fix. don't go biking for a while and keep that hand safe brother. get better soon and keep shredding the trails in the summer and winter. hopefully see ya out there in utah one of these days
Thanks man definitely not ideal but as you know it’s part of the sport. Going to take some time off for a little bit but I’m also excited to get back out there this summer and have a strong ski season this winter.
Fuck thats tough to see :( I broke my wrist a few months ago, but a lot worse than this. Better now and back to skiing and biking! Rest up bro and don't feel bad or like you let anyone down.
I wish you a speedy recovery Lucas! This must be the summer of surgeries. I had my bicep reattached a few months ago. It will all work out in the end! Ill see you back on the slopes when the snow falls this winter!
Always wear wrist guards. I’ve been mountain biking at Snowmass and I wore a full motor cross suite. Falling downhill on rocks at high speeds is about as dangerous as it gets and the odds of crashing is very high. With the right gear it still hurts a lot, but you typically survive without serious injuries.
Yup, I broke the fourth metacarpal right next to the pinky where your break is, I just let it heal no surgery still a little stiff 1 year 4 months later but I have full function and no pain, riding no problem. Good luck bro on whatever you decide to do.
nobody thinks less of you dawg, we all get hurt. You go pretty hard for a living and have a pretty remarkable track record of staying healthy. Heal up and enjoy the summer brother
Dang bro, hope you have a speedy recovery. I was just talking to my wife the other day about getting injured mountain biking. Fun sport, but everyone crashes. Luckily it wasn't a broken leg or acl.
Hope for a speedy recovery and to be back on the bike in no time. Took me a few months to heal and get confident after first time stitches over the bar crash
Had a similar type of fall mtn biking last month. Front tire gave out on loose ground and I broke my clavicle. Had to get surgery too. Good luck with recovery! Ice as much as you can.
No need to apologize for anything. Versions of this have happened to each of us,,, like you said, it’s the lifestyle we go after. Hoping for a quick recovery and being back in the saddle soon,,, take care.
It seems like everyone is getting hurt this year. heal up soon! I myself am 2 months in to breaking my right humerus on my summer jib ramp, I know how you feel about editing with your left hand! Stay positive, eat healthy, and heal up brotha!
keep your head up dawg! I'm on my second summer of mountain biking and probably at about the same progression as you. I noticed as i have gotten better this summer i'm having way more sketchy moments/one big crash because i don't give the little features as much attention that I did last summer.
You’re definitely right with that. I feel like I was still riding cautiously, but may have gotten jaded to the overall danger of downhill biking stay safe.
I got a boxer break by doing exactly that.... but without gloves... a friend of mine who knew something about these kinds of injuries massaged the bone back into some kind of alignment and then we strapped it up... most painful 'massage' of my life! Thankfully the bone mended itself reasonably well... thanks to the vigorous efforts of my mate. At the hospital where I live they recognise this kind of injury and they make you wait until everyone else is done before they tend to your injury... streetfights are fairly common, I guess you'd say. Back on topic, I think you got off lightly Lucas, I won't lie that mountain biking scares the crap outta me... some of the YT videos I've seen are horrific... so please dude, take it easy, we want to see you back on the ski fields next season!
Damn man tough luck. Sometimes those crashes you figure you’ll be fine on end up hurting worse than you expected after that adrenaline wears off. But hey, accidents happen, always part of the game. You’ll be back at it in no time dude, get all healed up! Wishing you a speedy recovery after that surgery! You’re a beast!
I was definitely nervous when I went under for my ACL but it happens so fast. Glad you’re into recovery now. Like you said, injuries are just a part of the lifestyle unfortunately.
Sorry about your crash, man. Super big bummer. In my first significant fall, I broke my collar bone. Mtb is definitely not as forgiving as skiing. You'll have to try to come ride trestle at Winter Park in September when all the other resorts are closed for the season. Heal up, man 🤘
Thanks Jacob. It’s all good and definitely could’ve been worse. I’m thankful it wasn’t a collarbone or anything like that. MTB is definitely not a forgiving sport in anyway even the smallest Falls can have tough repercussions. I’ll definitely be off the bike for a few weeks, but surely will get a few more laps in before the season ends.
Hi Lucas, first let say I'm so sorry about what happened. But as you realize it's a numbers game with the lifestyle we lead. We are still lapping everyone on the couch! Second, amazing video and content. And the colors. You are very skilled in how you develop those colors when you edit. The Independence Pass segment was awesome! Work the process on the recovery and don't think we need to see a MTB video before your body tells you it ready. Just make a few landscape videos of you and Tara enjoying PC. And finally, put a ring on it dude. You are not going to find anything better!!!
You definitely should heal up and hit Argentina this year. Would’ve love to see some South American slopes. Sadly I never thought of the recommendation until way late.
Heal up quick! This lifestyle is full of ups and downs. Luckily the ups outweigh the downs. By the way you didn't let any of us down. Us riders understand. 🤘
Damn man! That sucks! I had a very similar injury, for a very different reason (hand got wrapped up in a leash walking my dog at just the wrong moment 😅). Ended up with a similar break on my ring finger on my right hand right before Christmas. Didn’t need surgery but took a solid four to five months of healing and OT to get back to 90 percent functionality. I’m still hoping to get that last 10 percent back but I’m not limited in any practical way now. Hopefully your prognosis is for a quicker recovery! Definitely put in the work to heal it up right, it’s worth it. You don’t realize how critical those digits are until you can’t use them properly. Also keep getting out as much as you safely can and keep your normal routine as much as possible. I damn near went crazy being cooped up in my house all winter unable to ski or do much outside.
Thanks Ben I’m sorry to hear that 45 months for a finger is pretty crazy. Doctor say that this break heals pretty well and should be back within 3 to 5 weeks. I didn’t have to have surgery, but it insured proper healing and a full return to functionality.

You will heal much faster by having surgery. 👍 I will continue to follow your course of recovery and I wish you the best! Hang in there, you are young and strong and I know you will do well! God bless you! 🙏🤞🥰
Speedy recovery man! We’ll be here ready to watch your next adventure once you’re back
Its like christmas! you will see how fast you heal and will be right back at it in no time! ❤❤❤❤
Hope you have a quick recovery. Good choice with the surgery. I had a terrible snowboard season last year where I badly sprained my ankle and broke my collarbone on the first day of my 2 snowboard trips. Thinking of giving up the sport.
Big bummer man, we feel for you! I cant see this having any effect on your channel, whatever you post we will be here to enjoy!
Thanks man appreciate the support. There’s still a lot of fun stuff to come.
Sorry about the accident and stay strong! Love the videos and look forward to many more!!
Sorry that happened man! Luckily u still had good time, I loved that moment you rode the mountain Coaster! Wishing u a speedy recovery
Thanks Carlo the coaster was a lot of fun!
Hope you can get better soon and get back out there. Great editing as always, i loved the drone shots of the car drive the scenery looked amazing
Thank you man. I really appreciate the support and understanding. I’m already feeling better and I’m excited to get back out there in a few weeks.
This video was exciting in another way. Its cool to see that Mr. Talent Lucas is still human. Keep up the vlog while you're down bro! Its my favorite part fs!
Thanks man. Definitely human haha. Will def still have some vlogs coming out
Heal up bro. It happens. Sucks while you're healing but don't look back. Just move forward. 🤙🤙
hey Lucas, heal up and get better man! i love watching your videos especially the mountain biking ones because im a mountain biker too. i know exactly how you felt about surgery because of a skiing accident i had a couple years ago that required surgery to fix. don't go biking for a while and keep that hand safe brother. get better soon and keep shredding the trails in the summer and winter. hopefully see ya out there in utah one of these days
Thanks man definitely not ideal but as you know it’s part of the sport. Going to take some time off for a little bit but I’m also excited to get back out there this summer and have a strong ski season this winter.
Keep ya head up, you lowkey ate that I woulda been balling on the ground. Glad to see you’re still pushing on in recent insta story
get well soon. hopefully fully healed up by ski season
Fuck thats tough to see :( I broke my wrist a few months ago, but a lot worse than this. Better now and back to skiing and biking! Rest up bro and don't feel bad or like you let anyone down.
Hate that this happened but rest up you’ll be back and we’ll be supporting the channel through it all!
Thanks man hopefully won’t miss too much in the few weeks
Hopefully you’ll heal quick. Keep that fitness up while you heal you’ll thank yourself later for it
Definitely, it’s just my pinky after all
I wish you a speedy recovery Lucas!
Good luck bro on whatever you decide to do.
so sorry man! hope you heal up, tough spot!
Thanks man only up from here
Get well soon bud! Things like this happen. We're not going anywhere!
Thanks Chad appreciate the support should be good in a few weeks!
nobody thinks less of you dawg, we all get hurt. You go pretty hard for a living and have a pretty remarkable track record of staying healthy. Heal up and enjoy the summer brother
Thanks man definitely right about that. I definitely feel like I’ve been lucky over the years, so this is just a minor blip.
Thanks man. Hopefully you didn’t break anything with your crash. I’ll be back out there soon
Hope you get better soon! Amazing content regardless as always
Don't feel bad brother (easy for me to say), these things happen to the best of us. Stoked for your speedy recovery!
Thanks Sean hopefully just a few weeks and I’ll be back at it
My brother this shit happens unfortunately!! You’ll be back at it soon. Speedy recovery and keep that head up, it’s all good!!
Thanks Shawn. Should be back in a few weeks
Get well soon!!
Thanks, Chris!
Man, that really sucks. You'll be back out there in no time.
It must be nice having a copilot. That drone footage was 🤌
Thanks DC. Definitely wasn’t in my summer bucket list but I guess it’s just a part of the game!
Get well soon Lucas! Love ya!
💪🏽💪🏽
So happy you fixed it bro you'll be very pleased with the outcome versus the other outcome just a small war wound you'll come back 110% I know it
Had a similar type of fall mtn biking last month. Front tire gave out on loose ground and I broke my clavicle. Had to get surgery too. Good luck with recovery! Ice as much as you can.
Yikes man that’s tough but hopefully you have recovered well, MTB is such an unforgiving sport
@@LucasCatania17 It's been a process, but yeah, that's part of the sport.. More high risk than skiing! Get well soon.
No need to apologize for anything. Versions of this have happened to each of us,,, like you said, it’s the lifestyle we go after. Hoping for a quick recovery and being back in the saddle soon,,, take care.
Thanks for understanding. I really appreciate it. Estimated recovery is about 3 to 5 weeks.
It seems like everyone is getting hurt this year. heal up soon! I myself am 2 months in to breaking my right humerus on my summer jib ramp, I know how you feel about editing with your left hand! Stay positive, eat healthy, and heal up brotha!
Sorry to hear that brother. Hope you are healing up strong 💪🏽
keep your head up dawg!
The mountain coaster is the goods!
I was honestly pretty quick for an Alpine coaster!
Hey Lucas how’s your hand? Love your videos and you have inspired me to go out there and try mountain biking
Healing vibes sent
Appreciate it
First lap should always be a chill lap. I lived in snowmass. Its a special place. Sorry it got ya. Keep your head up and heres to a speedy recovery.
Thanks jay. I’ve enjoyed my time in snowmass more and more.
Exactly man. The small crashes have the biggest impacts sometimes. Thankful it wasn’t any worse.
Hey Lucas how’s your hand? Love your videos and you have inspired me to go out there and try mountain
biking. Heal up bro, your awesome
You should ski there, it is amazing.
I was definitely nervous when I went under for my ACL but it happens so fast. Glad you’re into recovery now. Like you said, injuries are just a part of the lifestyle unfortunately.
Yeah, no doubt man. I have been lucky over the years up until this point and even still it’s not a major injury first time for everything I guess.
Carnage is sometimes part of the gig!!! We got choo bruthua!! Heal up,, come back strong!!
Thanks Sam that’s the plan should be a few weeks and will be all good!
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thank you
Sorry about your crash, man.
Heal up my man! I’m sure aspen will have you out again soon!
Thanks Levi. Hope your collarbone is good!
@@LucasCatania17 yeah It’s fully healed now! I just skied main chute at Alta last Saturday and went mtn biking for the first time last week
Lunch at the top of Aspen Mtn is legit. Next time in Aspen - check out Maroon Bells.
do the roller coaster in glenwood too
Get well soon.
Hope u recover fast brother. Be safe.
Thank you, Mike
Hi Lucas, first let say I'm so sorry about what happened. But as you realize it's a numbers game with the lifestyle we lead. We are still lapping everyone on the couch! Second, amazing video and content. And the colors. You are very skilled in how you develop those colors when you edit. The Independence Pass segment was awesome! Work the process on the recovery and don't think we need to see a MTB video before your body tells you it ready. Just make a few landscape videos of you and Tara enjoying PC. And finally, put a ring on it dude. You are not going to find anything better!!!
Even the seemingly easy spills can jack us up. All the shredders are pulling for full recovery.
No doubt man it’s often the small falls that have the larger consequences
Wish you a speedy recovery
Thanks man
You definitely should heal up and hit Argentina this year. Would’ve love to see some South American slopes. Sadly I never thought of the recommendation until way late.
Heal up quick! This lifestyle is full of ups and downs. Luckily the ups outweigh the downs.
By the way you didn't let any of us down. Us riders understand. 🤘
Thank you man really appreciate it. Looking forward to getting back out there.
Heal up! Thats mtbing as soon as you feel good progression you get sent backwards
Ha ha yeah sounds about right bummed I won’t be on the bike for a few weeks
Its like christmas!
I have had the boxer break on the left and right small finger.
Sucks now but you will be fine. Stay strong.
I’ve heard they recover pretty well. I was bummed about having surgery but at least it will heal the way it should.
Didn’t seem like that bad of a fall unlucky man you learn from the experience I’m sure and come back stronger
Damn man!
