I need mayo or some kind of sauce on every sandwich. Especially when they have all those cold cut meats. Sandwich ends up being too dry for me. But it still looked pretty damn good.

Oil on the bread too? So I get a dry sandwich with soggy bread. This is not the way

I feel like you need mayo especially on an italian. All those are pretty much dry meats, so the mayo brings that moisture back in the sandwich. Its a good balance between that and the lettuce.

Nice. What I really loved though, was your aside about the mayo (and the cheerios and the white bread and that block of "cheese" in the yellow box); came up the same way in the projects, but it was the old Lower East Side in Manhattan so we did get a taste of the great cheeses and cold cuts and home cooking in all the local food places. I've been gettin' back to the mayo on my sandwiches, and I make no apologies.

Toughest thing for a North Eastener living out West is not having all the great East Coast food. I missed pizza, cheesesteaks, and real Italian hoagies when I live out West. The good food is out there, you just gotta look. Finding good Italian roast pork is tough too out there. You just gotta make it yourself sometimes.

This sandwich looked great!! Next time you are in Havertown, check out Bocella's Deli, right up the way on Eagle Rd. before you hit Darby road. The owners are Korean I believe but kept the name/traditions and honestly the italian hoagie I got looked exactly like this, and its all D&W too. The cheesesteaks are great, especially the buffalo chicken cheesesteak HOAGIE w/ bleu cheese. Doesnt get soggy and just the right amount of heat from the buffalo. Give it a try!

JL, my grandfather and father only liked olive oil on sandwiches and made fun of mayo. They were Sicilian and proud of all things Italian. I am proud but extend my tastes of cuisine to every culture. I love mayo on sandwiches and in cooking. I make complex aioli's as well as chipotle mayo's. Pure Italian is an experience everyone should have. However, even each region of Italy prepares food differently so to say one's food is pure Italian may only equate to a particular area, just like Philly Hoagie's. Mayo is egg blended with oil so enjoy your love for all kinds of condiments as they are a reflection of your personal choices, not merely a countries choices for you!

I usually like mayo but I always trust Italians with food. Their whole style is less is more and you can make something delicious with simple and fresh ingredients. So I always let them make whatever combination they think will be good. Their whole culture is based on art and refining compositions and ingredients whether it be paintings, sculpture, roman architecture, ferraris, tolomeo lamps, fashion, building design on a cliff in Positano, opera or food. They're highly talented at art in all forms.

I'd like to see you give Montgomery County more love, specifically the Norristown, East Norriton, West Norriton, Plymouth Meeting, Bridgeport, Conshohocken area for cheesesteaks, hoagies, zeps and tomato pie. There is also good Vietnamese and Indian food in that area.
