VERY early on, it was Colby College students who sat down on the floor of his "strictly take-out" sandwich shop to eat, who inspired him to expand and make in-house seating an option, at a previous location in Winslow. He subsequently moved to this location and, as he said, has expanded multiple times. I've been enjoying his incredible sandwiches almost since he first opened.
As someone who lives in Maine you shouldn’t be so open and welcome to out-of-state hours they’re the ones that bring increased inflation to our home prices destroy our forests for new neighborhoods and shopping centers and they’re the reason why our state is becoming more accessible to home-based workers which completely destroys the choir in quaintness of our state

Holy shit… I went here when I was a kid, must have been 2002 or 2003, and I brought a menu home because the sandwiches were so good/ thought the names were funny. Obviously that got misplaced over the years and I’ve never been able to find which sandwich shop it was even though I distinctly remembered ordering the Lucretia Borgia. What a trip stumbling open this video 20 years later, will definitely be going back the next time I’m up that way.

Gerry seems like a genuinely good person devoted to his family and his restaurant. He wants people to slow down and relax for a bit and enjoy his food and maybe a bit of conversation instead of grabbing a sandwich and leaving immediately. I can definitely relate to that now that I’m older. I really appreciated him talking about rising so early to be able to clear his head and all the little tasks needed to keep his restaurant humming along. It’s meditation and it’s good for us. What a kind soul.

What a well-deserved video spot! These folks work their butts off, for good reason... they make excellent sandwiches. Our family loves to go here every so often. Never disappointed. Pro-tip - if you go here for the first time, I'd start with HALF a wishbone to get a feel for it. A whole sandwich becomes two filling meals easily.

I live about a 12 minute drive from Big G’s,i can guarantee its the biggest and tastiest sandwiches ive ever eaten. We would go here after football games when i was younger and brings back great memories, even today going there its always a good time. Glad this place in the small towns of Winslow-Waterville is getting recognized on here. Big G’s deserves it and more!

Being from the area in the mid 90's I always enjoyed bringing friends from nearby Unity College for their first Big G's sandwich. It's wicked awesome that all these years later they still come back with their kids. And my kid's ❤️ the GIANT Whoopi pies!

Thats exactly my process for making sandwiches, I microwave the cold cut with the cheese. Another touch though is to toast each slice of bread on both sides with olive oil in a pan and then assemble the sandwich.

More specifically, it was the episode where he made "the Fort Greene Sandwich" that he used to sell at his food truck in Fort Greene I've been playing around with using a little bit of kewpie (Japanese Mayo which contains MSG) instead of Hellman's. It might be all in my head but I think the added MSG really kicks the flavor up a notch.

People from Maine are known as hard working folks that understand value & appreciate loyalty. I've been there many times camping & visiting friends, it's a beautiful state but don't be fooled they're TOUGH because winter is long & brutal.... Like when he goes in at 5 am it's 10 below zero with a foot of fresh snow a LOT....PS I'd do a toast on the bread to add crunch YUM
My great grandparents lived not far from here and I remember loving going to eat here. Sadly they have passed away and I live in Florida now. Nothing like it here and I really am quite disappointed but I still have the memories.😇🙏🇺🇸

I worked at a nice restaurant where the cost of every meal averaged at around $30.
I used the microwave much more than I used the oven.

@@JNJ1014 as a person of Asian decent, I only carry Kewpie. Otherise, I'd make my own western style mayo or aioli. But yes, when I learned this trick in middle school to use mayo instead of butter for my grilled cheese, I've never gone back

People from Maine are known as hard working folks that understand value & appreciate loyalty. I've been there many times camping & visiting friends, it's a beautiful state but don't be fooled they're TOUGH because winter is long & brutal.... Like when he goes in at 5 am it's 10 below zero with a foot of fresh snow a LOT....PS I'd do a toast on the bread to add crunch YUM

My great grandparents lived not far from here and I remember loving going to eat here. Sadly they have passed away and I live in Florida now. Nothing like it here and I really am quite disappointed but I still have the memories.😇🙏🇺🇸
My friends and I are planning a trip to Bar Harbor, and we'd been planning on going to Big G's on the way there for lunch, but I just found out today they've closed permanently! What rotten luck! RIP to Big G's! (the restaurant! the guy is very much alive)

NGL I judged him right off the bat when he used a microwave to heat up the ingredients, but then they cut to them making their own bread from scratch and I stood corrected.
