It’s funny how us Philly people can tell right away when we get to a spot whether or not they know how to make a proper cheesesteak based solely on the bread they choose lol. People think it’s easy to make a cheesesteak but it’s not. The correct bread, a proper flattop grill, real ribeye steak sliced thin and the right cheeses of course lol. Many places here in Philly say they make a Philly cheesesteak but you’d be surprised how many are posing! Support JL, he’ll show everyone the right spots and what to stay away from. He’ll keep you newbies away from tourist spots like Pat’s and Geno’s and put you on to places like this one. Keep up the great work JL👊🏻

sandwich it was a steal! What impressed me about the hoagie was that the guy was slicing the meat fresh. A double layer of meat was impressive! I love mayo on a lot of sandwiches! I'm curious, what type of Tastycake did you buy? I always loved the jelly krimpets & the blueberry pie💙 God Bless

Roll makes the sandwich. Philly has a long tradition of fine bakery. Not like New York, it's high Brominated water that allows for better dough production. You guys are truly blessed. The standard within Philly for rolls is Amoroso, they have a large industrial bakery on Haverford ave. near the University of Penn. Amroso is based in Philly, but, sells up and down the East coast. If you see seeded rolls, they are more than likely Sarcone Bakery rolls. They are a mom & pop bakery on 9th St. in South Philly. I know Geno's uses the unseeded Sarcone rolls. I'm not sure about Pat's steaks. Although, the bakery is just down the street from both. For our "heroes" we enjoy Deitz & Watson meats. They are located in Northeast Philly on Tacony St. They have a large establishment that sits on the Delaware river. Funny thing, every wonder why we call Heroes or Sub's Hoagies?
Philly has a lot of dry docks and at the turn of the century was a establish area for ship building and repair. One of the dock area was down around were the Philadelphia Airport is, which, was called Hog Island. The area is very secluded without residential, retail services. The only thing was the dock. The Italian Immigrant use to load push carts full Italian made sandwiches and take them to the shipwrights & docker worker to sell. If you didn't pack your own lunch, because of the seclusion of the area you would go hungry. The immigrants in broken English would announce their arrival by yelling "hey, hoggies", this mutated to us call the sandwich "Hoagie". I like my hoagie or Hoggie on a Sarcone roll with seeds, I like my cheese steak on a Amoroso roll, a unseeded Sarcone rolls are OK also. Stay way cool, hope you can get a bite now on the culture in Philly. And, yes we did boo Santa Claus at a Eagles game. The City of Brotherly Love? I'm sure good old William Penn is rolling in his grave!

Omg..I used to live near this place. I loved the food…definitely a hidden treasure. One
of the best pastrami sandwiches I ever had 😍There’s another cheese steak place right around the corner called Colonial Pizza that’s awesome as well.

I use to hangout in Philadelphia in the 80s and 90s I remember they use to have those corner store delis owed by black american ..I remember when my friend took me to get a hoagie being from NYC I said oh u mean a hero but a hoagie is much more than a hero..they put damn near everything on a hoagie and they did the same thing with their burgers.. I hope Philly still has those small mom and pop owned corner delis..I use to love it ..I put on weight hanging out in Philadelphia....

I live 10 minutes away from Docs and it's in my top 3 all time cheesesteaks and hoagies. They are large jawns too. Nothing skimpy about their style.
Try Boccella's in Havertown. They have the best hoagies, hands down.
Edit: I'm brand new to the channel (just subscribed) and sorry if you already went to Boccella's. I'll check out a bunch of your stuff. Us Foodies gotta stick together.
    Cheers 🍻

80/20 meat to bread ratio. Automatic win. Crusty outside and tender inside. Another win. Wicked awesome sandwich, no doubt.
