This video is an education. It is comprehensive & exceptionally good. One of maybe (3) on all of TH-cam that is serious & extremely well detailed. This gentleman is giving a little history as he works, early models, how they differ...Only very capable people can incorporate that as they work. Thank You Sir! You should be proud.
He is right about high line pressure blowing the end off the forward drum. However, there is more to it that needs to be addressed OUTSIDE of the transmission. On older Fords they are programmed to start with, and maintain, a higher engine idle speed to help light the catalytic converters off. Cats won't work until they reach a very high internal temp-like 1200 degrees, or something crazy like that. As the cats age it takes longer to get them up to temp where they start working. Ford, recognizing this situation, programmed their vehicles that as they age they will idle HIGHER, and will idle higher for longer, than a new engine does specifically to get the cats up to temp and working as they age. The problem here is people that jump in their vehicles, start them up and then instantly drop them into gear.. When the idle is high, so is the line pressure! When the engine is cold-so is the trans fluid which easily makes excessively high line pressure when paired with a high idle. We see BOTH the end of the forward drum blown off, and the band pin anchor on the reverse band broken off. Yes, the Sure Cure kit will help.. But ultimately telling your customer to let the idle drop below 1,000RPM BEFORE engaging F or R will ultimately stop this problem from happening. So, the entire fix is a two part process. The Sure Cure kit (or even the Trans-Go kit), and then fixing the nut behind the wheel. I find it much more difficult to fix, or control, the nut behind the steering wheel. Transmissions are easy. Those "nuts" are the challenging part.

I just changed filter and case fluid at 171k and dipstick plug was in the pan so I was the first to open trans and I bought it at 143k miles and was under the impression it had trans service done but fluid was burnt brown with no red color hardly left

Sounds like the shop my work took an e350 to. No forward or reverse. Their extent of diagnosis was to replace a speed sensor because of a code. That’s not going to stop it from going into gear. Fluid on the dipstick was nice and red (38k miles). They said it was “burnt” up. They should have let me work on it. $3600 for a jasper junk reman that already has delayed gear engagement 😵💫
I have an F150 '08 5.7 and the transmission just went out, no forward or reverse. If I let it sit and cool off it will go into either forward or reverse until the fluid heats up, let it sit for an hour and it goes again. having it towed to a trusted mechanic but I want to have a minimum knowledge of part names and a minimum idea of what conditions can cause what problems. when I do visit the shop I won't stand there bug-eyed when I hear what needs to be done. I'd rather spend the money on an excellent repair than have a truck payment. Thank you for the easy to understand explanation.

Always a joy to see someone rip into something so complicated as if it were nothing. My 07 F150 FX2 (4R75E) has 123,000 miles and doesn't like coasting through slow traffic then accelerating. It usually races then bangs pretty hard. Doesn't do it in OD off. I'm changing fluid, Mercon V, and filter this weekend and hoping for the best.
@@jramsier154 can’t figure mine out either. Broken snap ring. Got both pieces out and still no OD after putting the OD band in place with a screw driver. Still no OD. You fix yours?
That was really good. I’m doin an el cheap o fix on an 04 4r70w out of a grand marquis 170000 miles. All I found was toasted forward clutches and steels and blown out piston seals. Front pump seal was almost falling out too. This is 1st time I opened one up so I made notes on several things you said. I bought the car to get familiar with the 4r70w cause I wanna supercharge my 03 marauder and will have to beef up the 4r70w from the marauder. I just found ur channel bout a week too late. Thanks again for the knowledge.

I have the same truck with 250 000km. Was doing exactly the same as you... and last week and I ended up needed a complete rebuild. Truck drives like new now. The more you wait the more things will neeed replacing as the metal inside is eating away....

I have a 1999 Ford Econoline van. E-150. I hear loud himming when I reach 35+ miles per hour. Tranny does not slip and works just fine. Could it possibly be the rear end? I am a mechanic but this one got me going. Thanks for any feed back. Great videos.
Hey Hiram I've watched ur videos and they have a lot of info thank u so much. I have a 4R70W took it apart had no reverse I found that the snap ring that holds the reverse in place broken and stuck in between the low reverse could that be the problem couldn't find anything else wrong
Thanks Hiram, I have a 08 overdrive problem, shifts into OD and its like its in neutral, disengage the OD and runs and shifts fine...Im going to try and change the ring myself, seen a couple other videos on it and I feel I must have the same problem.

Hiram, you are a total professional. I like how detailed and knowledgeable you are. I have a 2005 F150 4x4 Triton 5.4L. When I accelerate really fast, the transmission shudders and then slams into gear from 1st to 2nd. Also does it from 2nd to 3rd sometimes, but mainly from 1st to 2nd. Also, when I have cruise set and am going down a slight hill, the truck lurches forward slightly (jerky). I recently replaced a bad U-joint. It's been doing this since I bought the truck w/ 115K miles on it and it is still doing it at 130K, not worse so I'm wondering what it might be. Thanks! BTW, where are you located? If you're close, I'll just take it in to you!
Mr Gutierrez, Great video, very professional. I have a 4r75e out of a 2010 e-350. It has a whine in neutral and park only. I swapped out the torque convertor and it still has the noise. Is this a pump issue?
Good video, my 2008 Ford F150 has some transmission issue, when I drive it in low rpm about 1050 rpm shift to second gear but then stall to 2000 rpm slipping and goes to third gear, just that is the problem the transmission slip a little bit while is shifting to third gear.

I rebuilt this transmission using your videos, so afterwards my overdrive light comes on and starts flashing at about 60 or 65 mph and wont shut back off until I shut the truck down and restart it. Before it beeps and the light starts flashing I can turn it on and off manually.
Hey you do good work man I have a Ford F-150 05 model transmission work's good I pulled out on the highway and I went to beat a car about half down on the gas it jumped in neutral what it feels like but it started working but at a stop it's like first gear it engaging but when you give it gas to pull out stop putting you can give it a lot of gas it pulls out besides that every thing works you can pull it down to first gear about when you are moving about 5 miles in hours it's engaged pulling good
Great!, Now I can do this, Now I have to see how to put together. I Imagine I would have a lot of Parts left over, or missing some parts(too many parts in the wrong place) Another Problem is knowing what a Bad Part looks like, and what a Good Part is supposed to look like. Sure curious of the rest needed to get reassembled. If I tried, may rebuild sections as they are Dissembled. Hope he has the Cleaning and Reassembly Video showing Adjustments and Procedures. I understand Transmissions have 800 parts, have built 1000 Piece Puzzles. Have been pretty good with those, No Pieces left over.😵
Your videos have helped me a great deal in the past 6months in my shop. I know this is off topic for this video, but I think your the man to ask. I have a problem on a 2008 jeep grand cherokee awd with a NAG1-W5A580. When you start driving it will push fluid out the vent, and it seems to push out the front and rear seal too. I'm not sure why, any help would be greatly appreciated. John

I have a friend I am helping pull one of these out of a E series van and he is going to rebuild it in his garage. I hope it works out for him!
Hey Hiram I've watched ur videos and they have a lot of info thank u so much. I have a 4R70W took it apart had no reverse I found that the snap ring that holds the reverse in place broken and stuck in between the low reverse could that be the problem couldn't find anything else wrong

Thanks Hiram, I have a 08 overdrive problem, shifts into OD and its like its in neutral, disengage the OD and runs and shifts fine...Im going to try and change the ring myself, seen a couple other videos on it and I feel I must have the same problem.
How do you change the shift shaft seal? Can it be done from the outside is do you have to do it from the inside? Thanks for the great video...

so the difference between the 4r75e and 4r75w is the e has two sensors on the side of it and the w only has one more or less
That is the first one of those drums I have seen broken. I have seen many distorted or flared out.

Hiram, you are a total professional. I like how detailed and knowledgeable you are. I have a 2005 F150 4x4 Triton 5.4L. When I accelerate really fast, the transmission shudders and then slams into gear from 1st to 2nd. Also does it from 2nd to 3rd sometimes, but mainly from 1st to 2nd. Also, when I have cruise set and am going down a slight hill, the truck lurches forward slightly (jerky). I recently replaced a bad U-joint. It's been doing this since I bought the truck w/ 115K miles on it and it is still doing it at 130K, not worse so I'm wondering what it might be. Thanks! BTW, where are you located? If you're close, I'll just take it in to you!

I rebuilt my 4R75E in my Expedition and now I'm getting torque converter shutter, I bought the Sonex valves to fix it, I hope that fixes it!
Mr Gutierrez, Great video, very professional. I have a 4r75e out of a 2010 e-350. It has a whine in neutral and park only. I swapped out the torque convertor and it still has the noise. Is this a pump issue?

Good video, my 2008 Ford F150 has some transmission issue, when I drive it in low rpm about 1050 rpm shift to second gear but then stall to 2000 rpm slipping and goes to third gear, just that is the problem the transmission slip a little bit while is shifting to third gear.
Good and thorough inspection,, based on parts to be replaced and hours of labor needed, what do you estimate cost will be?

i know you are super bussy and i want to thank you for your all of your teching here. i have 2000 4r70w it was rebult some time ago but it has no over drive servo is good is pushing the band ok new pump frictions are like new it has new solenoid pack in ideas are highly apreciated thanky you .
I rebuilt this transmission using your videos, so afterwards my overdrive light comes on and starts flashing at about 60 or 65 mph and wont shut back off until I shut the truck down and restart it. Before it beeps and the light starts flashing I can turn it on and off manually.
Hey you do good work man I have a Ford F-150 05 model transmission work's good I pulled out on the highway and I went to beat a car about half down on the gas it jumped in neutral what it feels like but it started working but at a stop it's like first gear it engaging but when you give it gas to pull out stop putting you can give it a lot of gas it pulls out besides that every thing works you can pull it down to first gear about when you are moving about 5 miles in hours it's engaged pulling good

Great!, Now I can do this, Now I have to see how to put together. I Imagine I would have a lot of Parts left over, or missing some parts(too many parts in the wrong place) Another Problem is knowing what a Bad Part looks like, and what a Good Part is supposed to look like. Sure curious of the rest needed to get reassembled. If I tried, may rebuild sections as they are Dissembled. Hope he has the Cleaning and Reassembly Video showing Adjustments and Procedures. I understand Transmissions have 800 parts, have built 1000 Piece Puzzles.
Have been pretty good with those, No Pieces left over.😵
Your videos have helped me a great deal in the past 6months in my shop. I know this is off topic for this video, but I think your the man to ask. I have a problem on a 2008 jeep grand cherokee awd with a NAG1-W5A580. When you start driving it will push fluid out the vent, and it seems to push out the front and rear seal too. I'm not sure why, any help would be greatly appreciated.

+Brandy Calvert Might be over full. Or there's a restricted cooler or cooler line. Do you have the tool to check the level? If not get one. Dealer have them, also Transtar.
No, 11 years later . . . How did the transmission do? I have a 2004 4R70E tranny w/239k that might need an overhaul, too.
