ACL you’re the GOAT For this Episode… I remember first getting my hands on this thing in AC3 and thinking "this is gross" and then this got butchered in 4 and 4a
in 4 and 4A the Canopus is actually really solid. in 4 specifically it is a monster of a gun in the midrange, as even rifles (best weapon class in the game) struggle with this thing. It just ignores way too much PA. In For answer though, it is definitely worse, but for a hit and run gun it is surprisingly effective. In ACFA and AC4 the most oppressive builds were those that forced you into the mid range using either the MARVE or a machinegun, and a rifle or laser rifle. You literally could not outgun them up close without getting shredded, and you couldn't beat them in the midrange because laser rifles (Or a Bernard and Felix rifle) dominated the mid range. The only other combos that matched this were in ACFA using a combination of the highest ammo Assault rifle and the Omer version of the Marve, as that combo destroyed PA and had insanely high velocity and DPS. I consistently beat some of the best players on Xbox 360 with those combos, and these players were by no means slouches, as we would be using all the tech. 2nd stage, 3rd stage, 4th stage Quickboost and all. Another strong combo was machinegun-missile launcher/grenade launcher for punishing the mid range/long range and forcing into CQB
The only problem with this video is YOU DIDN'T GIVE US THAT SWEET AC2 KARASAWA SOUND EFFECT. That iconic sound effect heralded the destruction of so many ACs and the death of so many Ravens
What a fortuitous coincidence! I was literally *just* looking for info on the AC2 Karasawa since earlier today, while digging through our old family storage unit, I found my AC2 Ethermaster figure (I think that’s its name; the AC that’s on the cover of AC2). And lo and behold, here you are, having just posted exactly the content I was hoping to find! So glad I subbed to you a few weeks ago - I’ve since watched just about everything on your channel and I absolutely love your work. Keep ‘em coming! Also, I don’t know if you’d be at all interested, but I’m in the foundational stages of trying to put together a community of small/growing YT channels and other types of creators (just a Discord server right now). The idea behind it is that it would be a place for people who are just starting out, or are small/have been small for a while and are struggling to grow, to exchange help and advice, lend each other a hand, and maybe foster a bit of a community around channels/individuals who otherwise wouldn’t get much press. The hope is that by creating a place for people to establish and nurture these types of relationships, that we can all help each other grow and achieve, or at least get closer to, our goals. Let me know? We only have a few members so far but I’m trying to find more people every day :)
One thing worth mentioning about the Karasawa-MK2: The blast on impact seems to do a light amount of stunning upon hit - nothing like the handguns, but it will happily play havoc upon your movement. As well, the splash damage can hit apart from the actual blast, doing a portion of the initial damage, but with a direct hit, the splash damage is done on top of the initial hit, if I'm not mistaken. It's been a while since I've done a proper run-through of AC2, but it and the Another Age version of itself are the most overpowered Karasasa by a significant margin, not even the Silent Line Portable version comes close. That said, a fantastic video covering the history of such a legendary weapon! I always found it ironic that it was named after someone at FromSoft at the time, but when Karasawa made his AC in the Developer Arena, it didn't use the gun named after himself.
Thank you for kind praise. Yes i did miss talking about a few points, however i shall learn and try to make the moonlight video even better. When i get to it.

My favorite weapon in all of PS1 and PS2 AC. I adore this gun as being the gun that allowed me to get into AC, had it not been so overpowered, I likely wouldn’t eventually be good enough to play through old gen. My guiding Sawa, thanks for everything.
Ah thank you for sharing this. Its comments like this that really do show how much a weapon can mean to people and i admit i too have to thank the Karasawa for helping me blaze through the game again for this channel.
The stats shown for the AC4 weapon are from an early patch. Later patches of AC4 (1.04 US P3, 1.06 JP PS3 and Xbox 360), which were arguably played more and considerably more popular raised the CANOPUS attack power, PA penetration, and fire rate and also lowered the weight. AC4's iteration could be a contender for best in the entire series since it had all the power of FA's version without having to deal with the increased speed of AC's lowering accuracy and creating more problems with netcode online.
Your are right these are based on regulation 1, but this was done as i felt it was the best for anyone who picks up a copy today and can't update to new regulations. Along with the my belief that the first regulation was the best to use as a base for lore.
The Karasawa received a spiritual successor in Last Raven and Nexus in the shape of the CR-WR93RL linear rifle. It looks exactly like the AC2 Karasawa and behaves exactly in the same way, with the difference being it's a physical gun and the damage was greatly nerfed to ~600. Also, just like in AC2, it was used by the title AC and your strongest rivals and arena opponents. It also has the ability to stun just like the AC2 Karasawa which you sort of forgot to mention, as this is what made it the most overpowered rifle and was taken away from the AC3 Karasawa (besides the latter having a far less iconic and menacing sound). The AC2 Karasawa is probably the most iconic iteration of the rifle and it's what I think about when I hear the name.
Thank you for sharing this and yes I'm afraid i did not mention the stun effect. However i thank you for drawing attention to this, so that others will be aware.

Im an Old Armored Core Player. I would say the First two where Perfect. I hope the Karasawa in AC 6 will have atleast 50 Ammo, or 60. For PVP the Karasawa is good against Slow and Heavy AC,s that cant dodge, and even good against Fast Light AC,s because of the high Velocity of the Laser itself. It seems OP in 1 vs 1 PVP but its okay to have the best DPS with high Ammo. The Balancing disadvantages should always be its Wheigt and Powerdrain. This two Parameters always keeps the User a bit unmobile wehn using it. (PS: I rarely used the Karasawa in PVP in AC 1 & AC 2 because i tryd to be good in PVP without the best Weapons, and it was possible, i always prefered normal Rifles for Missions or in AC2 the Arm Grenade Launcher, but even the Pulse Guns & Machine Guns where not so Bad)
Being AC6 the 1st armored core I play I was surprised when I got this. Nice concept adding 3 different firing modes based on charge level. Glad they doubled it's ammo to 160, it's more useful now. One more cool fact about the Canopus in AC4A: Not only did it get a substantial power increase from its previous model in AC4; it now has a charge shot function, further increasing its power making each of its shots more devastating than the last. I believe this function also carried over to the Kawasawa in AC5 and ACVD.

At the cost of 10 ammo and an instant cooldown. I don't know if I should be happy or offset at this change.
Well i think with ac6 the thing is that we got coral weapons now so i think they had to rework the karasawa as while the weapon does have a great history to the series. Maybe Corel is what ac6 wants to focus on. But these are just my thoughts.

AC4, ACfA, ACV and ACVD are all apart of the same universe, it’s just the later 2 are set 200 years in the future after the events of ACfA.. The ACs in the later 2 are probably designed for the “Super” Normal AC use because of the different in energy output.
Again we have a lot for and a lot against. Currently with what i have on hand it does sound like we have a fair shake at the two being linked with what we can read in the armored core verdict book which reads. In the far distant past, people created countless weapons and began to fight the final battle. The battle spread throughout the world. and repeated over and over again; at the end of both victory and defeat, new weapons and soldiers were created one after another. Then, powerful machines controlled by special pilots appeared, and the battles changed drastically. Due to the power of the machines people lost their common sense, and filth was spread around the world. Eventually, the era of the chosen warriors who controlled special machines was over, but the powers that be did not stop fighting and went on to create a huge weapon. There was a barbaric mass of violence that continued to destroy, overrun, and pollute the world, and the battle would end in "the destruction of the world". Hundreds of years since the Great War converged. As pollution abated, humanity gradually started to recover. But when three huge forces were created, they began to contend with one another. Will the world repeat its mistakes again? Page 6 from the armored core book VD the after However there is a section in the ACV book which suggests the records behind the events of the past are lost and that there is no way to know the definitive cause of the worlds current state. Along with this the book also suggests two theories behind the state of the world this includes war over resources and the other is it happened due to extreme weather and natural disasters . The super normal type ACs where developed by the Corporations in AC4/fA as a more cheaper and environmentally friendly (something that doesn't poison the earth with Kojima Particles) solution to dealing with Next pilots attacking their facilities A crack squad of 4 elite pilots in these Supers would be capable of downing all but the most Veteran next pilots, while suffering intermediate damage. The most obvious difference to the standard normal is they are far more Manoeuvrable than and modular (both in terms of parts and weapons), but does not have more advance equipment that Nexts have such Primal and Assault Armour or a Kojima Reactor for that matter, but still they have decent generator none the less. With the recent announcement of Fires of Rubicon, I can't help but wonder how the Karasawa will fit in here.
Honestly i expect it either to be a reward part for beating a certain ac or in the parts shop to buy. But currently anything is possible.
Probably a reward for a specific boss, I’m betting on a 10-20 round reserve with an optional charge-up.
Log hunt 12 reward, won't spoil you further.
It's three damage subtypes in one: laser, plasma, wave
@@armoredcoreloreunfortunately it's a reward for getting logs.
I really like the Karasawa's design. It resembles a really big sword.
My favorite weapon in perhaps all of mecha, especially once they made a lefty version. Thank you for this history report!
And thank you for your comment. It was a fun topic to look into.
ACL you’re the GOAT For this Episode… I remember first getting my hands on this thing in AC3 and thinking "this is gross" and then this got butchered in 4 and 4a
Thank you for your kind praise.
in 4 and 4A the Canopus is actually really solid. in 4 specifically it is a monster of a gun in the midrange, as even rifles (best weapon class in the game) struggle with this thing.
One thing worth mentioning about the Karasawa-MK2:
The blast on impact seems to do a light amount of stunning upon hit - nothing like the handguns, but it will happily play havoc upon your movement.
@@armoredcorelore Hey, you did a fantastic job on this video nonetheless! I forgot how many variants of the Karasawa there were in ACV and Verdict Day, and you also brought to my attention that the original designer of the weapon went on to make some of my favorite Gundam designs, so as far as I'm concerned, you did a great job covering the actual lore of the weapon! What kind of insane work had to go into makeing these games 😵💫
I don't know, but got to admit its a talent.
The Mk-2 in the AC2 intro made me fall in love with it.
It is a pretty cool intro.
I wouldn't say nerfed, Heat is incredibly deadly in the final PS2 Gen/PsP gen, and it applies a looooot of heat.
@@Kizen. in AC3 it definitely was pretty weak. in the last games when it reappeared as linear rifle it probably was S tier

I love how the Karasawa and Moonlight blade are in every Armored Core no matter who made it. Fires of Rubicon has a type like it. The name is KRSV. It's pretty OP

Confirmed that AC6 Karasawa is 44-142 KRSV Multi Energy Rifle and it looks so great
Sweet.
My brother and I liked to call it the car saw when we were kids 🚗 i thought that was a pretty cool name
Ha ha that is a cool name. I could see it as a new blade in ac6, the car saw that puts the moonlight to shame.
Let's hope they make the next Karasawa magnificent as usual in AC6. I never played 5 and VD so I never knew it had so many variants 😳 . Really wished I played them now 😭
Crossing fingers. Oh wait that means I'll have to update this video.
Can't wait for AC6
there was (is?) an employee at Fromsoftware that has the name 'Karasawa', they even got an arena entry named after than in MoA which does not have the rifle named after them
I think i covered that in the video.
By my counted, he said Karasawa 51 time. This is of no importance. Just randomly decided to count it.
Carry on.
If i still had this script i might be able to confirm this.
Ahhh the karasawa, it has such a satisfying pew pew sound in all its versions, would be great to see you do a video on the moonlight blade as well!
It has been suggested quite a few times. I'm sure i will get around to it.

So much homework to do. XD The Fromsoftware story telling formula is only just now being properly understood, thanks in no small part to the souls series’ popularity. I truly hope Armored Core 6 will also will ride this wave and shine a light on our treasured franchise.
Oh i know notepads at the ready. But yes i hope so too as there is a lot for people to really get thier teeth into if they look.
Sounds like a fair assessment to me.
There's also the CR-WR98L, minisawa lore.
There is.
Being AC6 the 1st armored core I play I was surprised when I got this. Nice concept adding 3 different firing modes based on charge level. Glad they doubled it's ammo to 160, it's more useful now. It still weighs over 10k, only one arms model can dual wield it without going overweight.
Still funny to use vs certain bosses though.
4:15 the disrespect lol. Asserting dominance by standing on top of the destroyed AC.

One more cool fact about the Canopus in AC4A: Not only did it get a substantial power increase from its previous model in AC4; it now has a charge shot function, further increasing its power making each of its shots more devastating than the last. I believe this function also carried over to the Kawasawa in AC5 and ACVD.
Man... AC6 really did change this gun. The lowest atk stat of all the versions at 727 and 80 ammo, but has a dual trigger system for plasma and laser damage can be charged to full power for 2522 atk...

Ah do take it a little bit at the time. Honestly you'll enjoy it more.
Page 6 from the armored core book VD the after
However there is a section in the ACV book which suggests the records behind the events of the past are lost and that there is no way to know the definitive cause of the worlds current state. Along with this the book also suggests two theories behind the state of the world this includes war over resources and the other is it happened due to extreme weather and natural disasters . Page 4 of the book armored core v the fact.
@@armoredcorelore there are only 2 Major links from the past that the could confirm the they are linked but ACfA has Different endings, this is the result of one such ending.

The other is the Next type AC NWGIX which I’m pretty sure that is a Abbreviation for: Next, White Glint, Model/Mark 9/IX;
with the /v - Equipped with Vanguard Overboost.
On a side note, when in Development of the Original AC4 or ACfA game they planned to have “Super Normal” type ACs instead of next which what are seen piloted in ACV and ACVD, most of the ACs where buried and or scavenged from Kojima Polluted Areas.
I have a bit of a theory on their “Development” in the game lore
Ah so we return back to perhaps it is or maybe it is not. I'm all ears for theories.
@@armoredcorelore Corporations reason for their conception was the casualties suffered from assaults from Hired Nexts and possibly even rival’s small AFs, MTs being practically next to useless in this new age of ACs and normals started making up the Bulwark of the de facto Right Arm of Corporations Might, they needed something to bridge the gap once and for all. The super normal type ACs where developed by the Corporations in AC4/fA as a more cheaper and environmentally friendly (something that doesn't poison the earth with Kojima Particles) solution to dealing with Next pilots attacking their facilities
A crack squad of 4 elite pilots in these Supers would be capable of downing all but the most Veteran next pilots, while suffering intermediate damage.
The most obvious difference to the standard normal is they are far more Manoeuvrable than and modular (both in terms of parts and weapons), but does not have more advance equipment that Nexts have such Primal and Assault Armour or a Kojima Reactor for that matter, but still they have decent generator none the less. Armored Core 5 isn't a universe. The 4th and the 5th gen are the same universe, as evidenced by White Glint's model returning as NWG-IX and the remains of The Spirit Of Motherwill.
It's not a separate universe at all.
