- Today its time to compare two of my favorite computers on the market. The Dell XPS 15 9500 and the MacBook Pro 16! Both have very different specifications and are pretty powerful in their own right.

The fact that I just put a 2TB SSD into my Dell XPS for just £250 upgrade and still got it cheaper than the lower end Macbook

Hey Gary, do a video editing comparison on DaVinci Resolve as Premiere is optimised differently and also doesn't leverage the full potential of the hardware. Resolve performance would be a fair comparison. Great video overall. Sounds unbiased.

More or likely Intel does... you can opt for an i9 in both versions of the laptops I believe. However, i9 comes 400$ more than an i7 6 core in MacBook line.

Hi, how is the performance of xps 17" while doing 4K editing?
Would you guys recommend buying the mac book pro 16 still now or wait for a possible new mac book pro 13 or 16 in the future?
I would like to see a review of the Mac running windows using parallels and how that compares to a straight up installation of windows on a windows computer. As an advanced user of ms word, the mac version of word doesnt have all the features of the windows version but runs efficiently for document building purposes on a mac if you use parallels.
Could you compare Xps 13 with xps 13 2 in 1 and xps 15. I'm very interested in sizes, since it seems that they are smaller than the displays

One thing that's ALWAYS irritated me about windows laptops is the stupid "core i5, i7 etc) and graphics card stickers that are glued on to the top case.
Right? Its like the first thing that I heat gun off.
The stickers are an old marketing tactic that retailers and electronic stores have used for years to sell computers. The customer sees a colorful sticker on the tower or keyboard and it’s just another attention grabber. It will probably die off eventually with the internet and social media promoting so much these days. The clean and sophisticated look is definitely the in thing for computers and other devices.

I am searching for a new laptop to replace my current and old MacBook Pro mid-2015.
I work as a full-stack web developer, and 100% of the time, I am using docker containers to run my development environment.
Docker Desktop on macOS sucks, so currently, I use Multipass to "mimic" what I'd have with WSL2 on Linux.
I live in Brazil and, because of COVID-19, I won't be in the US this year. I was planning to bring a new laptop in December because Brazil's prices are way too high than in the US.
Here we have only XPS13 9300 with 16GB RAM. I wonder if that will be good enough for a few months if I replace my current MBP 2015 with 16GB of RAM but a very weaker CPU.
I can also get a new MBP 2020 16" with 64GB of RAM and Intel i9 for 3x more of the price of the Dell XPS 13.
So, could you give me your thoughts on this scenario? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks for the comparison. Do you know if the Nvidia 2060 in the Dell XPS 17 will be compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro? That would definitely help me choose between them. If Apple upgrades to WiFi 6, I’ll probably choose that though. I’m waiting for those performance comparisons.
Yea of course it will. I have an RTX 2070 on my desktop pc and it works great with Adobe. I don’t see why Dell XPS wouldn’t run the same.

Do the thunderbolt ports on the left side of the XPS line up just like the MBP? I'm curious because I want to buy a hub that is specific for the MBP but for my XPS.
Anyone have recommendations for specs in a 16 inch MBP. Just starting some music production, want the possibility to use plugins very well and i’ll also be doing some light video editing. Will be my first laptop. I was hoping the base model would be suffice. If anyone has any recommendations, it would be very appreciated :)

Great content. Time to replace my work Dell Latitude 5590 15” to the new XPS. I just received my first ever 2020 13” Pro and you are right, for personal use, the Apple ecosystem is nice and seamless.
as a macbook pro user (the one with 2 ports on it), every time I need to anything else than charging is really really annoying

The Everyday Dad OMG! That would be perfect. I’m a writer, so I need my laptop to be portable and actually fit on my lap, but I’m also a content creator, so I need power, too.
So I just replaced old 13 on 2020 13' 4 ports. I was also waiting for 14 inch. Little trick, if you go with a space grey color MacBook, your bezels will look dimmer and smaller due the contract darker Mac with a black bezels.

Coming from an XPS, I went with the MBP 16 this time. Dell's quality control is straight up concerning at this point, and their customer service is horrendous.

Is Windows different on a Dell Machine in comparison to other PCs? I just moved onto the MBP 13 inch from the Surface Laptop 3. I just got tired of the issues I had with connecting Bluetooth devices, the slow wake-up, slow animations when switching apps and I missed MacOS. Apple products just work, but I still have not gotten used to the touch bar.

I have a surface pro and I want buy another device to use with it for school and even for professional life. Any suggestions? Like the surface pro is already a tablet/laptop so idk whether to get a iPad Pro, MacBook Air/Pro. I’m not sure whether an iPad Pro is compatible with programming softwares like for example Alteryx.

The XPS seems like a small-ish, svelte powerhouse, but it’s so hard to get a real feel for it when it’s only being compared to bigger laptops, i.e the MacBook Pro 16. Thanks! :)

Dell just shrink their laptop, not make it lighter. The highest option is slightly heavier than the mac. So i think this is a fair comparison

the xps 15 has 15.6'' diagonal so it is pretty close to the mbp16's 16''

Less ports but I'm using all of mine! I have a MBP with 4 USB-C ports and they're all used up. Two have hubs connected so in total I have 7 connections!

One thing worth mentioning would be that the base XPS 15 is $1,000 less expensive than the base MacBook Pro 16 but the Mac will most likely have better resell value.

I’ve been using my MacBook Pro 16 for a week, and been enjoying it a lot, I even put bootcamp and tried some gaming on it and performs great
What games are you running on it?
Amaze Productions stuff like NieR Automata, Monster Hunter world the expansion, DS3 all that fitted on my 250gb partition some other stuff that it’s compatible for Mac like LoL runs slightly better on Mac OS

I use FCPX on the Mac and Premiere on the Dell. Both are pretty even and not a big enough difference to make a decision. The Mac is probably a hair more powerful with its 8 core i9 and 5500 8GB option though.

I have used a macbook for years, when they started soldering on every component thats when i said hell no! Yes macs are great and the resale value is insane BUT if I want to add a larger ssd or more ram I can with the dell, the 17 also has a spare m.2 Bay to add even more storage, and you can get a touchscreen variant, I think mac going soldered is a big no no for me! Put it this way I could get the 17 with the best gpu and cpu I can afford and then at a later date add more ram, and 2 1tb ssd's :)

Asish Mandal Yes. Sidecar feature, if you have a newer iPad.
I think the Macbook is fantastic. But surprisingly the XPS looks more modern to me.
I also think the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme should have been part of the comparison. It's still on the older Intel CPU range and only a 16:9 aspect ratio. But it is also a thin an light(ish) competitor. It has a range of screen options up to 4k, arguably the best keyboard, nV 1650ti GPU, but most significantly it has USBC, USBA, ethernet and a full size SD card slot. It is also completely user expandable with two replacable DIMM's, two replacable NVME drive slots and a replacable wireless card.
Most people will get the Macbook or XPS but thy should take a look at the X1E too.
I’ve been hearing great things about Lenovo lately. Supposedly even Microsoft gets them for employees (not certain of this) and I’ve been seeing comments around the web of many who need powerful laptops getting or saying Lenovo is the way to go but I think many go with the usual or what others get which is usually MacBook (and then maybe Surface, Dell XPS, and so on).
Funny thing is my last laptop was a super cheap Acer Switch and it lasted over 7 years, it’s still going but close to done. I had one issue due to myself spilling stuff on it and Acer fixed it quick with NO hassle. All I’m getting at is other laptops are great choices too, like Lenovo and Acer Switch.

Tell about thermal throttling in XPS 15 2020 ?
Can you be more specific about the production performance and the 4k display? The reason I am asking is because the hp omen reviews are ripping the brightness of the screen and the color accuracy. So some people are suggesting the new razor blade laptop. Which laptop is going to offer true 4k color and power for video editing, music production, e.t.c?

A dongle is really only necessary on MacBooks for HDMI, flash drives, and SD cards. I replaced my USB cables with USB-C to the various other USB types like Micro USB for example, and it was fairly inexpensive.
So now I'll be getting the Dell XPS 15 9500 with maximum configuration tho people usually do complain of Dell's reliability. So I already got the Galaxy Book Flex and MacBook Pro 16 but I'll be replacing my Galaxy Book Flex dunno why but I gotta for it not having a Dedicated GPU. So my options are Dell XPS 15 9500 and the HP Spectre x360 15. So which one should I go for?
One question: Does any of the two go off like a vacuumcleaner, if you run like, a large file in Photoshop? Silence is key, and it baffles me how few of these reviews touch down on that subject.
I’ve got base 16 mbp and in photoshop it’s totally silent, when I export 4K videos fans turns on but it’s not very loud to be honest.

A few videos ago I left a comment about iPads having better front facing cameras being odd. Someone replied about the depth a camera module needs when the resolution increases and iPads are thicker. That is my random informative comment of the day😁

I used to be an all windows fan girl but you know what, I decided to be open-minded and decided to give Apple a try with their iPhone first... I loved it! I still continued on with a Dell.... then later I decided to give it another try and decided to get the iPad Mini because I couldn’t afford to get anything bigger and since I didn’t know if I would like it, I went for an entry-level next-best-thing....ever since I got that little machine (r.i.p.) I never once opened my PC ever again. I got to do everything I needed to do, Microsoft Word/ Apple’s Pages, Excel, it was my e-reader so I didn’t need Amazon’s Kindle, I was able to mark up my text books (with e-versions of them online) and not need to ever carry like 50lbs of books or notebooks 📓 from different classes. Everything I ever needed was packaged up into less than 1lb and bought a 3rd-party Bluetooth keyboard from Logitec that magnetically attached to my iPad Mini. I mean that was a game changer! No more needing to lug around a heavy PC, books, notebooks, papers, nothing! The iPad saved my back! All I need to carry was my iPad. Now I’ve fully integrated the Apple ecosystem into my life and how Gary said, I love my AirPods with my iWatch, it just works! At work, we do use PC but I find that things don’t work as seamless as Apple does. So now I’ve become an Apple fanatic. And no I don’t play games, ain’t nobody got time for that. I find myself loving the fact that I don’t need to waste my valuable time to customize and google search things for the PC to figure things out. So for me, MBP is the winner, but again, that is for my personal use.
And now you are stuck in their eco system. But if you like it, it is not so much of a problem
