    dont you mean 16:10 aspect ratio? 17:9 would be wider than your average monitor (like a pro display xdr, with a 16:9 aspect ratio)

    • @TheEverydayDad
      @TheEverydayDad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      No I mean 17 by 9. It’s not wider it’s taller.

    • @vivaanfr
      @vivaanfr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@TheEverydayDad Yes, it is. 16:9 is the standard aspect ratio display, and I don't think many people use monitors vertically. All macbooks use a 16:10 aspect ratio, and that is taller than an average monitor.

      2 months is not enough. I have a dell XPS 15 9570.. I tend to go Mac, dell, Mac, dell. Lured by the specs and price. But every time I regret it. My XPS is 2 years old, already had it replaced under warranty, now runs like garbage, had to get the battery replaced entirely, all the bios and updates have problems. Personally - all Dells I’ve had turn into a headache after about 3-6 months. I only used it for Adobe work and browser.

    I'm currently loving my new XPS 15! Thankfully, I ordered it after the whole track-pad issue. I'm two weeks in and I'm loving it! The fans are quiet, thermals seem to hold up adequately, even with some gaming. For an incoming college student, I am confident that this computer will get me through my four years as a computer science major easily! My machine is configured with the 6-core I7, 4-k touchscreen, 1650 TI, 16 GB of ram, and 1 TB SSD, and Windows 10 pro. Just a pro tip, I got this custom configuration on Amazon, where I think you will get a better configuration for your money, plus better deals on warranties! Overall, I am a fan; take it from me!
    P.S.
    Run dell updater after first boot for BIOS updates. It seemed to boost the quality of the speaker and the battery power-saving options!

      Don’t forget to turn off Bitlocker encryption when doing a bios flash upgrade. The bios recovery file is stored on the hard drive. In the event of a bad flash, the bios cannot recover itself if the hard drive is encrypted, thus making the file unreadable.

    I'm typing this comment on a XPS 15 9500 right now. I've had my machine for about a month, and I have three major issues with it. 1) I have some screen bleeding around the edges of the screen. 2) Whenever my computer wakes up after sleeping, the WiFi doesn't connect properly, and I need to turn off and turn on the WiFi for it to work. 3) This is a big one - whenever I pick up my laptop with one hand, so I have my thumb on top and four fingers beneath the laptop, the pressure of my fingers pressing up into the computer seems to somehow trigger the track pad clicking mechanisms. So if I am watching a TH-cam video full screen, that would pause and play the video I am watching. This is extremely strange and I definitely don't think this is an intentional feature built in.

  • @wafiqb7205

    On my third unit, really love the look and feel but I will send this back (although I agree its a little too sharp on edges, it's actually uncomfortable), had two with touchpad wobble, now on the third unit my backspace key came loose and pops off so they reckon they have to change the palm rest along with touchpad just to replace the keyboard, it just sounds ridiculous, and the trackpad on this one is actually decent so do I want to risk it?? No way I will return all over again smh... I wouldn't by a brand new car from a showroom to then have to have it fixed by a mechanic.

I’m relatively new to Dell for personal use and my question is, with all the Dell updating software, will it find new firmware releases by itself? Or is that something I will have to go hunting for every so often. Thx again. PS: the firmware I did was manual and took three tries before it took.

The fans are working overtime and it gets pretty hot when I’m doing that but it handles running solidworks fine. Battery life isn’t great though when you are doing intensive tasks like CAD, and I wouldn’t call it super impressive in normal daily use. Fit and finish are excellent, and are holding up well. Overall though, it’s a great machine, and it’s as close of a MacBook experience as I have seen without being a MacBook.

    Hey Everyday dad, i absolutely love your videos. Any chance you're giving away any of your older laptops you don't use often?
    I'd really appreciate one, i currently use an ancient Dell e6430 notebook.
    Thank you.

    I got mine on ell site, got it for 1900 inclusive of a 2 year extended support, 16gig, FHD + screen, 512 Ram. Got an insane deal, i think. Cant wait to get mine! I am switching from my xps 13, 5th gen! 5 year old and is still running solid. I am scared i might not like my the FHD screen compared to he 4k in my XPS 13, how does it compare?

    I got my 9500 in June with no trackpad issues but a dead pixel on my screen. I sent it back and got the screen replaced but now I have a trackpad issue! Every time I put a little bit of pressure beside the trackpad (ex. when I'm typing an essay) the trackpad automatically clicks. I investigated it further to make sure I'm not just accidentally touching the trackpad by pressing all around my trackpad without actually touching it and it automatically clicks in the top right and top left sides around the trackpad almost every time. It's pretty annoying but I don't want to send it back since it took over a month to get it returned exhusting my warrenty and I'm not even using my laptop so I got mixed emotions with this laptop.

    If you're thinking of buying the xps 15, I'd recommend you don't. There have been a lot of problems with overheating and the fans being EXTREMELY loud when doing simple tasks like browsing the Web! Ive contacted dell and they're going to repair it but this has happened to a lot of people so be warned.
    Edit: my laptop decided to include a bit of REALLY LOUD coil whine... 🤦🏻‍♀️

      There are also some amazing settings within the BIOS for thermal management! I am pretty sure with those settings people can tweak it to suit their exact needs!

    A quick question, Should I buy Razer 2020 Base Model with i7-10750H 2070 maxQ super ($1899) which comes with 512TB SSD + 16GB RAM or Razer 2020 Advanced Model with i7-10875H 2070 maxQ SUPER ($2399) which comes with 512GB SSD + 16GB . I play games like overwatch, apexlegends, Dota2, league of legends and some latest games. I also use the laptop for adobe cloud nonprofessional usage like photoshop, ljghroom and premiumpro .
    I do highly appreciate your input in above matter. Thanks

    I got one but sent it back after 2 hours. The trackpad wasn't wobbly, but it was uneven with a big clearance on the left side. Looked very cheap.
    But that wasn't even the problem. I tested it under load and when the fans kicked in there always was a high pitched noise. I don't think it was coil whine because in idle without fan noise there was no sound. But the high pitched noise is unbearable. Very disappointing because I finally got myself to spending 2k+ on a laptop to replace my desktop.. Will probably try the Macbook 16 now.

    Still using this laptop to this day and it's aged beautifully ! The 4k display is as good as new, the battery is replaceable when it ages, I dont have anything using usb a anymore, i love that i still have the sd slot (vs the new xps) and with the configuration i have i can still edit videos comfortably in davinci (but i have to export in h.265 to use hardware acceleration). Great long term investment! (I had the trackpad issue initially but someone from dell came to fix it early on). ❤

    I have the xps 15 for video editing and keep noticing quite poor representation of shades of blue and grey (gets glitchy). Do you or anyone else have this problem?

  • @3mrspacelyfaisal
    @3mrspacelyfaisal 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have had it for 3 days and I can say I have had no track pad issues, the speakers are great, the display is magnificent, if you're on the fence I say get it without fear. Now my one gripe is the battery life, its average but it definitely gives you 6 hours which isn't a deal breaker imo. Also there's a nice update when you startup which improves the speaker, this laptop is super responsive and feels extremely premium.

    I got mine (4K Touch version) and I love it. However, I am facing a very frustrating network micro-cuts once or twice every hour (for 1min, then it gets connection again). Either using Wi-Fi and a USB-C dock with Ethernet. Have you faced this? Can't find a solution. Dell has just told me to restore Windows so far... >.

    I have been using this laptop for about a month now (coming from an almost 10 year old MacBook Air) and I agree with all you said, it is a really strong and solid machine. Since you already summed up the positives let me tell you about my negatives as you couldn't find many;
    -The camera quality is my biggest negative. It is simply describable as poor. If like me, you need this laptop for work as well as private meaning lots of Zoom calls, I would recommend an external webcam. The stock cam is very pixelated and completely washes out colors and doesn't handle light very well.
    -At times the laptop gets too hot. I say too hot because it is not comfortable to have on my lap anymore. It may still be acceptable and it doesn't feel like it's going to overheat or anything. The fans start going like crazy and after a few minutes of pretty intens ''blowing'' it cools down.
    -The carbon fiber material looks and feels very nice but is super sensitive for fingerprints and greasy stains etc. As I am working with this laptop throughout the day there will be moments when I eat/drink when using is but please be careful where you put your finger after you've eaten a sandwich, these greasy smutches are hard to clean.
    -The space/crease between the screen and the body when the laptop is open is quite big and gathers dust/dirt very fast. I find myself cleaning it out with a q-tip every couple of days.
    So just some minor things. Overall I am super impressed with this machine. Perhaps coming from a 10 year old device it doesn't take that much to impress me but still. I have the 10th generation i7 32gb ram 1TB internal memory, no touch screen. I bought the 2020 model because it was discounted a lot on Dell's website and it fitted right within the budget my employer gives me for a laptop which is €2k.
