  • What are some red flags you should be watching out for in software developer job postings? In this video I go over the top 7 most common phrases that I’ve come across in software developer job postings and during the interview process that seem innocuous at first but turn out to be red flags.
This is more of a fun opinion-based video. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

    Job posting jargon translations:
Family: We will gaslight and manipulate you.
Initiative, self-starter: We don't know to how delegate work and will micromanage you.
Attention to details: We'll start the papertrail when you make a minor mistake.

I recently came across an IBM job post requiring 3 years of experience for an entry level position. Makes sense from where these small companies are drawing from.

I like these companies in a way because you can use their recruiting process as practice for the companies you really want to work with - same with unpaid internships >:)
The recruiting process is low-stakes, because at best they are going to offer you a job you already know you DON'T want. Use them!

"The recruiting process is low stakes", you're completely right. I don't know why I'm so anxious when I think about it

When companies look for "Junior" or "Entry-level" Front End Devekopers with 5 Years of experience, it doesn't sound so entry/junior anymore.

You’re right! Many companies are doing expecting someone else to hire you to get experience first before they give it to you while paying you a junior salary

"UNLIMITED/UNRESTRICTED" PTO!!! IT IS A SCAM!!! YOU WILL ON AVERAGE USE WAY LESS PTO THAN A COMPANY THAT OFFERS A STATIC NUMBER PER YEAR
