    It doesn't matter how sturdy you think your house is no house is going to survive a category 5 hurricane.

      I know! I was trying to explain it to a friend and I could only say it is ominous and eerie! Almost impossible to describe the feeling here! Stay safe and be sure to keep checking your County for evact locations. Traffic was horrible today all over from the 75 to back roads. It took us 3 hrs to drive 37 miles to get back home. Stay safe!

    We had a house in south Miami with Hurricane Andrew, a Cat 5, knocked out power over all of Miami Dade County for weeks. Our cinder block construction home held up well but repairs, when we were finally able to get the contractors, took almost a year to complete. Milton will be devasting to Florida. You have been through similar events before.

    • @Adventureswithbecky
      @Adventureswithbecky  วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      With Hurricanes it is very important to listen to your County evac orders. They cannot evac all people from the hurricane zones or no one would be able to get out. They order based on storm surge first, then buildings that cannot withstand insane winds which are mobile homes, manufactured homes, RV's, Campers then special needs who have to have power at all times. For stick and brick as well as block homes yes we will get damage however, loss of life is not a high probability which is why mandatory evacuations work the way they do. Our roads have been backed up with traffic for two days and adding people from regular built homes to that would create even more chaos.

    Just because it “hasn’t happened for 100years” doesn’t excuse your refusal to take the actions necessary to get to safety. You have a car and plenty of time to drive out. Some people don’t have a car and they were able to evacuate. If you didn’t have gas then you should have car pooled or taken a bus. Stop making excuses and leave.

    When I lived in Florida and a hurricane was reported to be on its way, I evacuated using my own judgement, regardless of what the government said to do. I took those key irreplaceable items with me and got in my car and drove either further inland or up into Georgia and spent the night in a hotel. My part of Florida rarely had hurricanes bee-lining for it; nevertheless, it was never a big deal to me to take preemptive measures. In my view, living in Florida means understanding you will be evacuating to a safe spot likely on a 'regular basis', period.

      How we got to overspending on military…
      The military complex we decided to invest in the 1950’s..a decision Pres Eisenhower questioned as he thought it was tough to reverse once started.
      Voting for your political officials..they are voting to renew sizeable military contracts. And those furnish us with overseas capabilities. Those contracts are prioritized over funds for local and state need.
      Hopefully we are at a reckoning point. Vote for candidates who will fight for better FEMA and more for upgrading infrastructure.
      And of course vital to elect folks who want to appropriate much needed funds for disasters and social programs. 🪴

      Anybody who wanted or needed to go, needed to have already been gone days ago. Gas is gone in a lot of areas already. People are sitting in huge traffic jams trying to get out. They are wasting gas just idling. There is no way I’d want to be sitting out in the open on an interstate or on state road 60 and get slammed with this storm. You would be swept into the ocean. There gets to be a time when you know you just need to hunker down now and ride it out. I also hear that hotels are charging hundreds of dollars a night rather than their normal $90. This should be illegal. It is beyond disgusting that people think it is a good idea to profit from someone else’s misery.

      We aren't. We had appointments today we had to go to. We finished getting our supplies yesterday and are as ready as anyone could be. We will have hurricane winds and a lot of rain but are 10 mules inland from the gulf so we won't have storm surge. Tampa has already begun evacuations as all Counties in the path have. They will not evacuate all only tjpse on the coast/in storm surge areas, mobile homes, manufactured homes, RV's, campers, special needs and home that cannot withstand winds of 110. There is no way to evacuate all. If they did no one would get out.
