    Also, don't forget the text deadzone in the bottom right corner where the timestamp overlay is; don't put any important text there that you don't want covered up by the video time block.

    I'm most familiar with Photoshop Elements but I like the principles you've shared. The quick question is best SIZE for thumbnails? Canva takes the guess work out, but I'd like to know my option if you're able to answer.

    Very good info! Almost my exact way of capturing thumbnails too as I am new to vlogging. What I like about Canva, is I can work on it from my iPad, say on the couch or my bed. That way when I go to sit down at my desk finishing up the video my nails already down. I even used Canva to create the book cover of my most recent book.

    I used Canva all through SSSVEDA and loved it. I'm using photoshop now, but I will be going back to Canva soon you reminded me of how easy it was and how many options it has.

    Great tips Amz. I've been using Powerpoint (which I have anyway) and have each slide as my thumbnail history. Easy then to capture and use previous ideas as well. Just thought to share.

    Alternative to screencapture - play video in VLC (as you should) and right click > Video > Take Snapshot. It saves to the Pictures folder in Windows.

    Thanks Amy! I use Adobe for everything - Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere etc - but I'll try your way which I think is easier. You know... I'm 'saving' your videos in my Favs playlist in TH-cam but it's happening that I'm saving all of your videos kkkkk so I realized that it's time to create a playlist just for you.

    Two things for people who may be watching this since the change: Picmonkey now costs (Free trial, but no free version), but it allows you to save, so you don't need the extra Canva step to affect that same scenario (save thumbnail template).

    You can save templates in picmonkey also. It's called "hub".

    Great stuff, Amy. Did not know about picmonkey. I do mine in Photoshop. But for those not familiar with the UiUx or who don't want an expensive subscription, you just gave some great advice. Heck with Canva's templates I may even use it to save time. Thank you.

    Hi Amy, thanks for all those tips about Pic Monkey and Canva, do you use Final cut pro for editing your videos? Do you recommand it more than iMovie or Screenflow per say ? Maybe you've mentionned it in a previsous video but, since i am a new follower, i 've only watch about 30 of them, your a busy girl! Thanks Amy👊

    Great tutorial! Thank you! I seriously need to ramp up my game - I don't have ANY copy on my thumbnails. Ack. Quick question - what editing tool do you use? Currently I'm using iMovie, but am open to some suggestions! I'm not sure I can take a snapshot from the footage - I will investigate more!

    Thank you for sharing that. Always interested to see how people do their thumbnails. I used Canva for my channel art and use the TextSwag app for Android for thumbnails as one of the main points of this particular channel stsrtup is that I do everything strictly from an Android phone.

    Adobe Spark Post looks to be way quicker and has some great templates. I actually do most of my thumbnails on my phone and they're super quick. Great video. :)

    I've always used Pic Monkey and I'm pretty sure I got that from a Thumbnail Tutorial you did years ago. My channel hasn't been getting many subs and views lately so I'm now starting to change a few things in the thumbnails to hope that works. I might have to try Canva :)

    I think the key thing here is my thumbnails have either been too wordy or needed some attention grabbing tag line... Right now looking at what is recommended for me the most eye grabbing tag line is "What happened to the X-Men" and your "My Favorites" video from February.

    I have used PicMonkey before But I also use two apps on my iPad which are Phonto and PicArt. Both apps are free but if you want extra features there is a fee.

    My problem is that the thumbnail has to be 2 MB or less. Photo editing is not an issue, as I do it as a hobby. How do you make sure the thumbnail is bright and eye-catching whilst meeting this 2 MB requirement?
