Maybe Nnoitra's hatred of females being stronger than him stems from him being a Praying Mantis and what happens to the males in that species. It kinda explains his despair.

@Tekking101, you forgot an extremely important part about Nnoitra. He himself fell into despair because there was no meaning in life and no hope in Hueco Mundo for any Hollow. He wanted to become the strongest because that's all he had. Or he wanted to die in the process and either was fine. That's why he hated Nel so much. He also didn't die immediately. Kenpachi didn't want to finish him off, so Nnoitra charged into his death, since he also hated it when others looked down on him.
Agreed I'm upset that he missed that part cause that philosophy of his made me love Nnoitra's character.
One thing I noticed when watching is that I believe Nnoitra is the espada that fights the longest outside of resurrection

There's a difference of how Nnoitra keeps Orihime quiet between the manga and anime. In the anime, he just covered her mouth with his hand, but in the manga, he shoved two fingers in her mouth, which from what I understand is a...erotic thing in Japan...Yeah...

Personally, I find Nnoitora’s aspect of death to run deeper/more personally than just him enjoying the despair of his opponents. I think the way Nnoitora embodies despair shows in the crippling reality of what it means to have an inferiority complex. I believe that in Nnoitora’s eyes he knows that he isn’t the strongest, however this fact gives him all the more reason to claim that he is, because if he didn’t, he himself would succumb to despair namely in the thought that no matter what he’ll always be weak and absolutely nothing in the eyes of everyone around him. Extending from this, I think Kubo is a genius for writing Nnoitora the way that he did. I think Kubo wrote Nnoitora with no real redeeming qualities to emphasize the true reason as to why he feels as if he has to be the strongest, because if he isn’t then there’s nothing else special about him. Nnoitora, in my opinion, was made to be an unlikable character ‘cause at the same time Nnoitora isn’t necessarily a character to be liked but to be understood. And this might be stretching it, but I think Nnoitora having the strongest Hierro is also a nod at his tragic character. I feel like this ability of his shows how much effort he puts into maintaining this bravado and incredibly tough exterior because deep down he knows that without it there’ll be nothing left. I probably sounded repetitive and a little convoluted but this is basically why Nnoitora is criminally misunderstood and my absolute favorite Espada (Hope Tekking sees this😳😳)

Nnoitra is like a praying mantis because of: 1: size, praying mantises can be sized from 2-6 inches (although not the largest still considerably large) like nnoitra who is the second tallest espada at 7.0” 1/2 beaten by yammy at 7.6” 1/2. 2: bats, to praying mantises, bats can be threatening, and ulquiorra’s release is murcielago (bat) also ulquiorra is the 4th espada while nnoitra is 5th. 3: stealth, praying mantises stalk pray and wait for an opportunity to attack, like nnoitra with grimmjow 4: females, nnoitra hates nel because he believes men should always be stronger than women, which can be partially linked to female praying mantises killing the male after mating, also praying mantis mating season takes place in autumn and nnoitra’s official birthday is in autumn (11th of November)

5:17- It foreshadows his desire to cause despair after great victory, Chad was on a roll, possibly even getting to the point he could evolve his powers even further....then Nnoitra defeats him and it went downhill from there.

Mantises aren’t bugs, that’s a type that sucks the juice out of their target with a proboscis. They’re closer related to beetles.

Exactly what I thought when I first saw it😂
I just realized that his sword embodies his self-destructiveness and how self-centered he is. The blade is aimed inwards, representing how his focus, his edge, is faced inward, that he's concentrated inward. The edgeless back of japanese blades is designed to block right? well all of the part that would easily be used for offense in his blade is in turn completely defensive. Later on when his blade evolves it starts growing inward toward the handle. He is hard on himself for being weak, defensive against those who force him to dwell on that and his major end goals are either becoming the strongest or dying by the hands of those who are stronger.
Dispair is his motif because he feels it just as much as others and would rather die than confront it.
I like this idea, however katanas or just about any blades back side or spine is not for blocking. Parrying and blocking are usually made with the flat of the blade or just the edge. I might be talking out of my ass tho so somebody please correct me if I'm wrong

Because Shunsui's Bankai ability that he was using at the moment took whatever color he called and vastly increased the damage he did to anything with that color. He slashed -- not stabbed -- Stark's hole which had black edges. And Shunsui called out black before making the attack.

@Embodiment of destruction True, Santa Teresa has an odd shape, but it's still it's sealed form off his Zanpakutō. So I guess Szayel could, it's the best we got as an explanation xD. Would be about the same as Kisuke's Zanpakutō, that has the sealed form to be a cane.

- Mancatchers are spiked throughout the entire thing, Santa Teresa really isn't, it only has the double crescent moon shaped blades.
- As for the Monk's spade, one end does have a crescent moon shape allthough not as extended as Nnoitra's monstrosity off a weapon, also it has no spade at all, it has a chain on the other end.
But ty, learned about 2 new weapons.
The Chad and Nnoitorra scene is actually the first scene of Bleacg I ever watched and what made me stick around and keep watching after that.

7:39- To be fair, if Shunsui had taken Chad more seriously- he would've been pragmatically killed by a sadistic child game that ultimately goes in its master's favor or die an extremely prolonged death by shared injuries, disease, drowning, beheading and head explosion- which actually was merciful for Shunsui to not use the latter on Starrk as it would been a nasty way to go...something that would please Aizen.
Doubt it would have pleased aizen considering he would have been a player by default of distance in that shadow game 🤣
37:42- It really makes the parallel between him and Zaraki strong- Nnoitra is a nihilist who seeks his death, not respected by his peers for his vulgar personality, extreme arrogance of being stronger than his rank suggesters, can't win a fight with a proper enemy without luck/cheating, relishes bullying the weak/injured in any way he can, hates the woman stronger than he- that he never shows how he surpassed her, causing despair, hating losing because it reinforces his weakness while not actually training to improve- using the Hogyoku to boost his power, fights without honor to the point his abilities complement this belief, and was a misogynistic barbarian who didn't see beyond mindless carnage.
Zaraki is a constant seeker of challenge who wants to continue to fight those worthy his time, is feared for his ferocity/strength, believed to be so dangerous that it took the apocalypse to allow him a chance to improve himself, wins fights so often that he has to restrain himself most of the time, gives even weaker enemies a chance by holding back/doesn't approve of killing the unarmed, admires the woman he believes he can never surpass- when ironically he did as a child- causing him to hold back out of fear of acknowledging it, losing causes him to rethink his priorities- making him want to improve, gives his enemies so many advantages with artificial elements to help that belief and is a surprisingly introspective person who sees the deeper meaning of battle.
The deeper level behind Nnoitra hating Nel is that he fancied her too. He was attracted to someone that terrified him and made him feel inferior and, being the prick he is, couldn't separate those feelings - shifting it all into complete hatred as the only other option for him was his own despair. His strongest hierro is meant to be ironic since he clearly has the thinnest skin.
Yet it was Neliel who pursued Nnoitra and followed him around more than he ever did to her.

I like that his aspect is despair bc even he had to realize that there were literally a ton of others that were way stronger than him not to mention Aizen. So the chances of being the strongest is literally zero we know and he knows. Tho the way he acts saying he’s the strongest is him trying to feel that he could be when in reality there was no way, hopelessness/despair.
When Nnoitora was dying in the anime idk about the manga, but in the anime as his eyes was closing Nels eyes were opening and then she said Nnoitora. That was pretty symbolic sorta

Vasto Lorde Ichigo vs Ulquiorra was my favorite espada fight.
There are two main things I love about your videos, Tekking. First, (of course) is the information. It's good, quality information on Bleach content. Good stuff. The second is your sheer exuberance. You bounce around, you wave your arms around, you shout, you get excited... It's great. Keep up the good work.
I think one of my favourite part of this fight is that Kenpachi reveals his ultimate technique at the time, using two hands.
His lack of using cero seems to make people think he's weaker. I feel like ranged - energy attacks get much more bias than physical attacks when it comes to general anime fandom. But you know what? I think his lack of cero use probably stems from trauma. After all, he spent his life trying to defeat a woman who has the ability to swallow ceros and shoot them back at him. I can imagine after a few times, even after busting out a gran rey or maybe even cero oscuras, Nnoitra decided "f*** that" and stopped using it in battle.
12:23- Nnoitra is unique in that it's clear that unlike the other Espada, (Grimmjow- Ichigo's big rival, Ulquiorra- Ichigo- sorta rival/an interesting relationship with Orihime, Zommari- Byakuya's reinforcement of his care to Rukia, Aaroniero- a physical manifestation of Rukia's final step to move away from her guilt, Barragan- a reinforcement of Aizen's forceful superiority onto others, Starrk- a demonstration of how ruthless Starrk is, Szyayel embodies everything Mayuri despises, Halibel-....demonstration of Aizen's cruelty/Toshiro water/ice rivarly- honestly she's just there, and Yammy- sort of Ulquiorra's enforcer/big brute to demonstrate how much stronger a character is. Nnoitra, while he reinforces Kennpachi's love of combat and surprising adherence to an alien sense of honor, Nnoitra is his own character with his own foil in Neliel, a non-violent warrior who prefers more rational thinking and likely more optimistic viewpoints than Nnoitra's brutal nature and utter nihilism of desiring his own death- either at being the strongest or dying by a worthy enemy.

I love the "two hands" he briefly goes over the fact that Yamamoto made him learn Kendo because he couldn't release his zanpakuto

Always aspiring to be better but not having the means to become the best is the essence of despair. I think that's the most relatable aspect of death.
7:51- To be fair, for Chad's case, it was very lucky that Shunsui didn't pragmatically kill him with his Shikai's sadistic child games or with Starrk later on, an extremely horrendous, prolonged execution via a depressing play made manifest- that would've been extremely nasty for the Primera to go...which Aizen would've relished.
Noritora was cool I liked his connection to Nel and Salzey and her group.
My favorite mantis memory: when I was a kid a mantis decided my hat was a nice place to be for a while so I had a head pet for a few minutes.
I never thought Tesla had romantic feelings from Nnoitra. I think the relationship between an espada and fraccion are like a captain and lieutenant. So of course he was upset to the point of tears seeing his master die. Nnoitra seemed to care about Tesla somewhat. Going so far as to try and warm him when he gauged Kenpachi's strength.
Don't let this video distract you from the fact that Nnoitora was stomped by a Nel who was leaking reiatsu, and right after was killed by a Kenpachi who, after trying his hardest to die in that battle, just had to take his sword in 2 hands to 1 shot him.
I think that's where the Despair thing comes from
2:12- It might be some sort of U-shaped axe that extends or a scythe with a reverse crest that extends....I'm going with the latter since it fits with his mantis/death bringer theme.
Its axe version of prison rod. And im pretty sure this thing dissapears in his release form. The scythes comes from his hand

I've been dying for the next Espada video! Your videos have been a huge plus during these trying times.
Seeing Tekking swing a sword always amuses me. Big weeb that I am I took kendo classes for a few years. Seeing someone not know how to swing a katana swing one is simultaneously one of the funniest and most anxiety inducing thing you'll ever witness
there's always a deeper meaning behind something even when no one can see it. Nnoitra was a beast and a barbarian who relished in the hopelessness he caused but he wasn't immune to his own aspect; he not only hated Neliel for being a woman of higher rank than him but what she represents to him. Nnoitra (at least in my opinion) hated reality and lived in his own bubble with "I am the strongest" as his barrier and tesla holding said barrier up and complacent with that; it's not like he couldn't but didn't want to less forced to which Neliel and finally Zaraki did and that was his despair.
31:44- I actually wonder how Neliel would've handled it, given his pragmatic use of hiding his third pair of arms, able to regenerate his weapons/limbs and being a six armed wariror having six giants scythes in total. Makes me wonder if Nnoitra was holding back subconsciously from using it when Neliel was kicking his ass in their reunion or didn't have the opportunity to release it before Neliel depowered.

Its not the fact that she was stronger than him as he respects strong opponents its the fact she followed him around and protected him like a child while also talking down to him about how hes weak and a beast which pissed him off

Just want to mention, the reason Kenpachi mentions how if you swing with 2 arms, your attacks are stronger and how its not that obvious is because he was criticizing Nnoitra on how he could have won the fight if he focussed all his arms into a single attack but he was too slow on that. Also Kenpachi gave Nnoitra a chance to retreat but Nnoitra has always been seeking the kind of fight where he gives it his all and then dies, adding more to his despair motif
Ima be honest, I don’t care what people say, Nnoitra was always my favorite Espada
Gotta love Kenny. He was using Nozarashi, a two-handed weapon, in one hand that was also his off hand. Just him using the sword correctly upped his power to an absurd degree. Who needs bankai when you have Kenpachi-grade BDE?

Nnoitra was so unlucky to get Kenny as his opponent. He is the only one out of all of them that only feels absolute joy, the harder it becomes for him. Ikkaku enjoys it too, but not to the wild and insane degree of Kenpachi.
Sure if Nnoitra fought Unohana, it would have been the same reaction, but at this point in time, there is no way she would allow that side to come out and I think that she would just have died, rather than release that side of her.
Nnoitra fell into his own despair because he was up against the only personality that counters his own.
