Season 2 was incredible glad you ranked it high. The story tell was kinda slow and people complained about just being on the farm but man the payoffs where so good. Best season in my opinion
Thank you so much for your thoughts and words on Carl. I agree with everything you said about him 1000%. He is the most important character behind Rick, and the show suffered so much after his departure. Seasons 9 through 11 would've been a hundred times better (and they needed Carl, especially since 9 is my least favorite season)
The thing I loved about season 2 was each character had a good amount of screen time every character had a cool little story arc with each and every character I like how it went to like Rick and Lori to random characters like Hershel and Dale etc great season
I love season 2 so much! Not only do we get to spend a lot of time with these characters but there are so many iconic moments

Seasons 4,5 and 6 are considered the prime of the walking dead.

You're spot on about the dialogue later on in the series. It was so bad and just seemed speechy. It's not as good as the earlier seasons. But 1,2 and 3 will always be my faves for many different reasons.

Season 6 would be by far the greatest season if they got rid of the fake out death. They should have shown Abe’s death, and then show Glenn’s in the next episode.

I was late to party and just binged this show at middle of last year. I was thinking when I saw Season 6 finale I was like WOW! People watching this when it premier had to wait a year to see who was killed. I can’t imagine how brutal that was to wait. I think they were really messing with Comic Book readers by killing Abraham 1st. Through seasons that lead up to this they act like they are going to kill Glenn twice. One of times is at Terminus & with baseball bat. I think they like messing with views.
Season 9 is by far my favourite season. So many highlights

Season 2 and 6 are also my top 2 seasons. Respect on liking season 2 so much. A lot of fans seem to not appreciate how good the dialogue and character development was in that season.
Each good season has something to it
Season 1: Best locations/world building
Seasons 2-3: Good development
Seasons 4-5: Good storylines
Seasons 6: Good choice of characters and really good buildup
Season 9-10: A refreshing change to what made the walking dead so good in the first place
Season 11: Still currently watching
Seasons 1 and 2 are UNARGUABLY the best seasons. They were the creators true vision of what the walking dead should be. The only reason they aren’t in everyone’s top 3 is because they hadn’t gotten to the meat of the plot yet like Negan, no way out, and the prison. Like no one says better call Saul season 1 is the best but that doesn’t mean it’s worse. It just had to get started up.
Finally someone appreciates season 2

I love every episode of season 2! We get to spend so much time with the original cast and there are way too many iconic moments to even count

Interesting choices! I have a really hard time ranking everything because there are distinct eras of the show. 1-6, The Golden Age, 7-8, The Dark Ages, 9-11 Renaissance of Kang. I haven't rewatched in a long time, but season 6 is usually what I think of as the best of the Golden Age
That beta, daryl, and negan fight ruined the whisperer arc. If you read the comics, that was one of the best fights ever.
Hey Dan! Ranking the seasons is very hard because i love all the show but this are my favorites:
1- season 6
2- season 3
3- season 9
4- season 2

IMO 1-6 is amazing all the way through and 7-11 is mediocre at best. The earlier seasons felt so gritty and grounded in reality even though it is a zombie show. The characters felt so real, the dialogue felt so real, the fight scenes looked way more real. It perfectly captured what I imagine a real apocalypse would look like and how people would act. The later seasons began to look like a cheap tv show and every character spoke like they were in a play. The fight scenes began to look like action movie scenes and some characters started to seem like caricatures of real people.
Fully agree the drop off in quality from season 6 to 7 is the biggest nosedive I’ve ever seen in a tv series
I agree. Season 7 ep1 promised so much but the show failed miserably to deliver afterwords. Some parts of season 9&10 were good but it just never felt like the same show after Carl died and rick left

I completely agree with season 4 being a lower ranking season. A lot of episodes were filler feeling and I dont replay this season much. Personally, this is my least favorite.

The thing I liked about scars, is that the only way they could get out, is to do something unspeakable, like slaughtering a bunch of kids lol. That's brutal apocalypse shit
In my opinion:
Seasons 1-6 was the prime of the series. The most important, nostalgic and the quality of the series.
Seasons 7-8 were poor, although season 7 ep 1 & 8 were pretty good, with a decent season finale. But the season overall was very slow paced. But like you said, if done right then it could be good, and I thought season 7 had its moment for sure. The concept was at least good. Season 8 while being more entertaining at times due to the action, the writing and direction felt like it was written by a 12 year old.
Season 9 was surprisingly amazing, it was a great comeback after two bad seasons. I'd even consider it among seasons 1-6.
Season 10 (1-16) although could've been better, I thought was pretty decent. Even good if I'm honest. HOWEVER then they added those extra 6 episodes (10c) after and I hated them. They kept filming in the woods to save the budget, there was a scene where Maggie ran in the woods and the camera started shaking. Yet it made the cut somehow. Not to mention, they gave us the worst episode in television history, the rat episode.
My favourite villains
The Governor 3x03-4x08 He was a psycho a murderer,full of darkness. He killed Merle. Bit 2 of Merle’s fingers off shot him in the chest so he can turn. Decapitated Hershel,Stabbed Milton left him as a Walker to bite Andrea.
2. Gareth. Omg. His character was amazing 4x16-5x03. He was a cannibal. his talk with Rick was amazing.
3.Shane, even though Shane loved Lori and got her preggers. He wanted Rick dead after knowing he made things “worse” he killed Otis,Randall murder style just to save his own ass.
4.Owen, leader of the wolves. I loved his story with Morgan and Denise. He was funny and creepy!
5.negan, sure he has a baseball so scary.. sure he killed Glenn,Abe. Gutted Spencer,grilled marks face,through the doctor in the fire. The saviour arc wasn’t the best as the govs.
6. The whisperers. They weren’t scary at all. Only in 9x08 for the intro that’s it. So bald woman and a tall guy that follows her around. Should have just been beta no alpha bs.
Sorry Dan the whisperes are a joke in my opinion. The governor will always be my fav.

The biggest thing The Walking Dead suffered from was increasing the episode count. Season 2’s 13 episode order was perfection with no bad episodes with the exception of the mediocre “Secrets.” Season 3 was great but adding 3 extra episodes left some amount of filler content to fluff things up and every season after suffered from that as well.
Season 10 and 11’s episode counts were just ridiculous with so many awful episodes in both seasons. Those two rank at the bottom of my list every time.
2x07, 2x12 and 2x13 are all top tier episodes.

I wasn't expecting to agree with your list but it was pretty spot on. I'd probably rank season 2 as the best and put season six as second best, but it can go both ways. Season six was the height of it's popularity but what i found sort of ironic, is I believe most of the reason that the show was reaching such high success and views at the time was because pretty much everyone knew the Negan scene with Glenn was coming and everyone wanted to see how they approached it. The fan backlash was a bit surprising once they did show the scene because most people were watching and knew full well what was about to happen and they still got upset over it to the point they quit watching. lol I'm sure a few people watched without knowing what was about to happen to Glenn but this show has been consistent with comic book fans spoiling everything ahead of time. lol

Great list! I’d switch season 3 and 4 (I hated the Woodbury storyline and found the governor more annoying than anything) and season 11 and season 5 but other than that was very close to my rankings.

11. Season 8 - Garbage besides Father Gabe, Dwight, then Eugene, everything else was pretty bad, Carl's death, need I say more. The only season I genuinely overall dislike, I still enjoy the other seasons fine
10. Season 10 - The bonus episodes were not it, besides Here's Negan, the huge delay with seeing episode 16 bc of Covid and wanting to link it up with the premiere of garbage World Beyond. I wasn't feeling Michonne's final episode much. It was like a Marvel's What If episode and Virgil's character disappears in Season 11 so he was overall pointless
9. Season 7 - I think this one gets too much hate for being slow. I overall enjoyed the season, loved Dwight and Morgan, the intro to Ezekiel was fantastic. The premiere and finale were some of the best episodes of the entire show. Jeffrey D. Morgan was carrying the season on his back and was amazing to watch. I didn't think Daryl's episode imprisoned at the Sanctuary was as bad as people think, I still watch every episode of this season and like that one. Ocean Side was overall what brought this one down and could've been done a lot better if any of the writers actually CARED about them. If the writers don't care, why should I?
8. Season 11 - 11C was goddamn perfection! The finale was AMAZING! However, 11A really struggled for me, I'm sorry
7. Season 2 - I feel like people only like this season for Shane. He carried this season on his back and acted the ever living hell out of that character. Rick's evolution into a true leader was great, the beginning of Glenn and Maggie, Shane de-evolving into a madman, showing Daryl had more to him than just being a redneck with anger issues- but actually has a heart of gold and hated himself for caring so much and never wanted to show it. Those were all great moments of the season and I rewatch all the time. Lori brings this season down a lot for most people. Besides the Season 1 premiere, the 2nd episode of Season 2 was my first look into this show. Rick running with Carl in his arms, shot with blood covering them, running to Hershel to save his life. I worried like hell for a little boy, wanting to see if he would end up being okay, and Andy Lincoln's performance was spectacular. This was during a marathon on AMC for the Season 3 premiere I think, so I kept the show on in the background while I did other things.
6. Season 1 - In my opinion, the dialogue of this season was pretty corny and cringe at times. the actors delivery helped make it sound a bit more natural, but overall was corny to me ngl. But the overall vibe was good and is a good quick watch since it's only 6 episodes. The finale was great. I remember when the first episode debuted in 2010, I was a freshman in high school and the next morning was all everyone talked about, "what'd you think of it?" "What was your favorite part?" I don't think I stayed awake for the whole thing, but Morgan's introduction was a core memory for me. His acting left such an impact where when he returned in S3 Clear, I immediately recognized him as Morgan from the first episode and knew we hadn't seen him since then and was just as shocked as everyone else.
5. Season 6 - The pacing of this season was weird for me. I don't think the premiere was very strong, but the mid season premiere was GOD TIER. Carl getting shot in the eye was ICONIC and Father Gabe inspiring everyone to come out and fight for Alexandria made me so happy! The first half of the season struggles for me. The Glenn fake-out death, the Wolves going away too quickly (after building them up since halfway through season 5 it was disappointing), the fact that the entire first half takes place in like...A single day. ONE DAY. That pacing threw me off, but the second half was amazing with the build up to Negan and the finale had me panicking!
4. Season 9 - The second best season when it comes to pacing. It helped give a great cohesive story. The vibe was so IT in this season. The time jump to older Judith was beautifully done, the intro to Yumiko's group was amazing and I cared about them instantly. The Whisperers were god tier amazing. My only complaints would be the Michonne flashback in Scars -_- and giving Henry Carl's arc just to kill him off to hurt Carol and give them a reason to break her and Ezekiel up (then never put them back together..)
3. Season 5 - I thought the finale was a bit weak compared to the other season finales. This probably had the weakest finale of the whole show. Other than that, this only ranks lower because of my love for the other 2 seasons.
2. Season 4 - IMO, best written season, especially the second half, one of the most underrated arcs of the show. Carl was a goddamn STAR this season. I personally rooted for a Daryl and Beth dynamic (pretty sure I started it on Twitter during S3 and had like 3 people on board until S4 came out then everyone and their mother was rooting for it), so when they did it, you bet it made me happy as hell to see them actually put it to screen. We got to learn more about Michonne. We got the legendary episodes Too Far Gone, The Grove, A, and introduced to Abraham. It was the first time we had to see our group split up and try finding each other again. The symbolism and motifs in this season were INSANE, especially with the Governor! I adore S4
1. Season 3 - This comes mostly from bias, but I can't not have this as my favorite season. This was my first full season of TWD, the nostalgia I have in my heart for it is unmatched. It's my ultimate comfort season of the show I can watch over and over. This was the season that got me HOOKED on TWD and had me tuning in every week to see what would happen. It gave me my first gasps of horror and shock and tears. This season had the best pacing of the whole show. It had such a cohesive story where the very end really felt like an ENDING! The central theme of trauma and how our characters processed and learned to heal from their trauma was beautiful (Glenn, Maggie, Rick, Carl, Michonne, Daryl). Merle was the star of this season and the Governor was one of the best villains of the show. Keeping certain characters within season 3 only (like Milton and Merle) really helped give S3 it's own independent feel, much like S1 and S2. They could've done better by Andrea, but that's my only complaint
Definitely agreed. Season 2 had a lot of screen time and was more focused on the OG characters. The fans complained that there were many of new characters and background characters, and not enough character development in every season after Season 2.
Im obviously a little late but... no freaking way are seasons 10 & 11 better than season 4(or 3 for that matter). You must have been high when ranking them!! The quality of the writing was so much better(not to mention Rick Grimes was still around). And the flu arc was good. It didnt matter than no major characters died; it made for an excellent send off for Hershel and storywise it weakened them, which made it that much harder for them to defend the prison against the Governor. Definitely not filler!!!

Btw my first experience was also season 2 final episodes. I wasn't as into it at the time but then it got to season 4 where I couldn't stop watching it and was hooked.
As of right now, I'll probably go with, but could swap some around for different reasons:

1. Season 5. Just Phenomenal. The most different from the graphic novels but you can really see how much everyone was changed from season 1. Especially Rick, Glenn, and Carl.
2. Season 6. Best plot Season. First half dealing with a walker horde. 2nd half dealing with the saviors. And that cliff hanger.
3. Season 11 Part 1. First 2 ep amazing. The Daryl and Leah plot is entertaining. And the introduction to the commonwealth was awesome.
4. Season 9. First 5 ep Amazing. The whisperers were terrifying. The side characters like Judith, Henry, Lydia, and and Connie were all entertaining.
5. Season 11 Part 3. The end of an amazing show. Every character had a time to shine. And screw Sebastien, Pamela, and Hornby.
6. Season 10. Builds off the momentum of season 9. Both Alpha and Beta were great. And ep 16 was an amazing 'finale' for the season.
7. Season 11 Part 2. Great character development, especially Mercer. A great ending to the Daryl and Leah plot. And an amazing villain in Hornsby.
8. Season 4. I know, an odd pick. Amazing things in this Season. The prison fight, Hershel's death, the Grove, Rick bitting Joe. Nothing really wrong with season 4, I just like the remaining seasons more.
9. Season 3. Controversial. But the prison setting was good. The governor was a great villain. And this is where the show starts to get is its groove.
10. Season 8. Action packed. But for some reason the war felt way to long for the season. RIP Carl
11. Season 7. A bigger necessary evil. But set up good storylines for the seasons 8 and 9. And RIP Glenn and Abraham
12. Season 2. A necessary evil. But the 2nd half is pretty good.
13. Season 1. Start of the show. Had to lay the ground work.
14. Season 10 ep 17-22 injoyable but made during covid.

It’s hard for me to rank them. I agree that 8th season was the worst. You pretty much took words right out of my mouth. I really have hard time getting through 1st half of 6th season. My fav seasons are 4,5,10, 2 & rest are somewhere in middle. 4th season is my fav because you learn so much about all the characters. That is what keeps me watching. The character building is why I fell in love with show. I agree that Whispers were best villain. Their story line was creative & different they came about this in a whole new direction. That is one of reasons why 10th is one of my favs

The two sanctuary episodes I could appreciate are Carls, because its how it is in the comics and Daryls because its daryl and I wanted to see what happened with him. That's it. The rest are kindof meh or not good at all

Definitely the most interesting list I’ve seen lol but I respect it I most definitely agree with season 6 being the best over all season of the show it was just too good when TWD was at it’s peak. And I’m also a defender of season 10 even the bonus episodes aren’t bad in my opinion for the most part Here’s Negan being the highlight of them but I think the war it’s self was great now I do wish Negan and Beta had a proper fight even Daryl in the mix kinda like how Daryl and Beta had there epic fight in season 9

Season 10 and 11 over s4 to me is crazy
The governor story in season four was pretty bad. They rushed it and it was devoid of believability in terms of execution. I actually liked the season up until the episode after the flu. So much filler and pointless killing of characters. It's like they would go half pregnant with a character only to kill them off making the entire thing a waste of time. But they do that with most of the show.
Yes season 6 was the best
around the time when season 7 was at its peak i almost stopped watching the show then i gave it another chance
Holy shit we basically joined the series at the same time. First episode I watched was when they killed Shane😂 probably not the best first episode to start on , spoiler wise !

Man what a task hate to be doing that but I love the walking dead some seasons more than others but in my opinion season one is definitely the best and I love all the early seasons I just think the first four or five seasons the writing is just brilliant and the writing just hasn't been quite as good after but a great show regardless

So yeah, 6 is also my favorite, it doesn't even come close. Season 2 is also very high, I've always loved it, I do not get the shit talk that this season gets...it is anything but "slow" or "boring" in my book. Season 4 would be even higher if it wasn't for 4A, I do not enjoy 4A...but 4B is tremendous, I love it so much...We've got the introduction to Abe, Eugene and Rosita, plus I love how they tell the stories of the different characters and how they found their way back to one another. People may be surprised at my worst choices, but I've said it many times, I just do not care for Season 9. I think it has one of the most boring premiere and finale episodes, and most the stuff between is boring as well. Rick's last episode and the pike episode are the best ones, and even those aren't as good as what people say. Season 9 is missing so much of what made the early days of TWD so magical...our core group, together, being a family and kicking ass. I could care less about the Saviors and Oceanside and Jadis/Anne, these are not people that I care about. I just don't get it, I'll never see what people love so much about it.
Then we have 7 and 8, the 2 "worst" seasons according to the fanbase. Season 8 is not good, I'll give ya that. The only episodes I like are the first 2 or 3, and those aren't bangers, that's for sure. But I do think season 7 is better than people give it credit for...for one thing, the premiere, finale and mid-finale are all exceptional episodes! 7x8 is one of my all time faves, where Rick decides to fight and he reunites with Daryl, absolutely beautiful episode. Then there are others like Bury me Here, Rock in the Road and Service that are great as well.
So there's my thoughts on the seasons. I'm sure I could say more but damn, it's long enough already 😆

11. Season 8 I hate this season, and from such a big fun it says a lot
10. Season 7 I dislike this season but it has The day will come when you won't be and Hearts still beating
From here I really like all the seasons
9. Season 10 The whisperers war needed more action and some plot points were weak, like ep 8 cliffhanger but Alpha and Beta were excellent, Negan was the biggest highlitght and Here's negan is top tier, also there are great moments like siddiq's death and the battle at hilltop
8. Season 11 being the finale season, I hoped for bigger moments and pay offs. Still, this season does a lot of great things and some characters have incredible development and Lance was easily one of the best villains of the show
7. Season 2 Love the aesthetic of this season, character development was some of the best of the show, iconic moments like the barn scene, rick vs shane, shane's death and the season finale. The first half is slow but people complain too much
6. Season 4 The flu arc is a favourite of mine, the governor's episodes needed to be just one, Too far gone is such an excellent episode and the best ending for any villain arc of the series. 4B was great, having the characters surviving and The grove and A top tier episodes.
5. Season 5 if it wasn't for the hospital arc, this could be the best season, the cannibals were so good, No sanctuary and four walls and a roof are flawless episodes, and the second half was incredible, from Them to Conquer is just awesome.
4. Season 3 The first season where the characters got more badass. The prision arc was great, being Killer within one of my favourite episodes, The governor was an amazing villain and got us the first big enemy. I love morgan episode
3. Season 1, just so iconic and I just love it with all my heart, each episode is great
2. Season 9 The bridge arc was an amazing way to build up to rick's exit, and What comes after is top tier. The whisperers arc in this season was excellent, almost flawless, Evolution did a great job introducing them. Personally I love Scars, is in my top 25 episodes of the series. The calm before is top tier and The storm was a fun episode, I loved the snow
1. Season 6, it might have some problems like faking glenn's death and the cliffhanger at the end of the season. But, the rest of the season was superb. The first three episodes were flawless, the season started with a big boom, and No way out is my all time favourite episode ever. The second half is also amazing, the build up to the saviors was the best thing to come from the savior's arc. Not tomorrow yet, The same boat and Last day on earth are some of my favourite episodes
I know it's your opinion. But man season 4 was so low on the list. But it's taste
I'd have put 4 higher up it had classic episodes like too far gone the virus in the prison I'd have swapped this with season 11 which wasn't a fan off

Also killing the character you have been building up to be the future lead of the show once Rick left was absolutely stupid!!!!
