- Now that The Walking Dead is finally over after 11 seasons and 12 years, it is time to rank all 11 seasons of The Walking Dead worst to best! I will be breaking down why I liked or disliked each season and putting them in order from my personal worst to personal best. Remember this is just my opinion so if you disagree with my listing of The Walking Dead Season 1 - 11 make sure to tell me in the comments below your ranking for TWD seasons.

Season 11 had a critical case of main characters surviving situations they shouldn’t. Hell, Rosita should have died when she fell. I don’t care how strong she is, she isn’t kicking all those walkers off of her from the ground on her back. She should have been ripped to shreds.
At least she was bitten and didn't come out 100% unscathed.
And glenn should have died in season 6 when he fell into walkers not Killed by negan just saying
The season really needed so many more death which is a real shame as it did ruin the season for me a little with everyone having massive plot armour. The final season just needed everyone to feel like they could die at any moment and lose so many characters. The cast was so big some characters did absolutely nothing the whole season but they all survived anyway.
Rosina’s death was very weird as out of nowhere they decided to adapt the Andrea death from the whisperer arc. I think if they was going to kill Rosita it should of maybe been more connected to someone at the commonwealth. Maybe she does get bit but she dies later before turning saving everyone or something.
Season 11 is definitely the worst

Season 2 is very good and nostalgic, season 3-6 was peak no discussion, Season 9 was a great season hands down. (Btw holding hands for 1k subs !)

Considering that the zombies came in all forms and sizes and wore different clothing. Yeah, I would say it’s pretty easy for alphas group to not notice the heroes dressed in ponchos.
I think it is a bit too convenient that a poncho covered in blood is better at hiding then a person wearing Walker skin. There should of definitely been more danger to entering alphas hoard. I am probably being way too picky with season 10 and that episode though. So I could be just trying to find more reasons to hate the writing in that season.

I really can’t decide the placing in my top 3, so I’ll have to go with my ratings for those, but overall I think season 3-6 is the prime of The Walking Dead, 1-2 being the (sometimes chaotic; showrunner-drama) beginning, 7-8 the downfall, 9 the refreshing new beginning, 10 unfortunately being the weakest of the Kang-trilogy, and 11 being a very mixed but overall enjoyable final season.
I would’ve loved fewer and longer episodes per season, so here’s my idea for an alternative version of the series:

Good ranking adding a average episode raising. Also your remixed seasons would really work. Looking at them you sorted them into good seasons. One issue with the walking dead at times the show has a weird formate with part 1 being about ending an arc and part 2 about setting next arc up. You kinda removed that for some arcs.

Season 5 is my favorite season of the walking dead! Rick Grimes is my favorite character and he was his most savage that season! The season was just perfect for me. The way it started to the way it ended was amazing! One of my favorite scenes of that season was Rick walking outside and killing walkers while Alexandria was overrun and inspiring everyone else to help him and no one died that night! He showed some true leadership skills that season! Second favorite episode was Rick’s departure in season 9! That episode was so emotional and nerve wrecking! The way he he saved everyone as he blew up the bridge and you see the emotion everyone’s face and how they cared for him was very good acting!
Rick really carried this show. Shame he left in season 9 as the show has not been the same since.

@@HoboDucks Thanks. I had the same problems with season 8. Rosita's death is the only death that had me ballng. That really made me dislike season 11. It had a really bad pace as well. I liked that season 7 had me on my toes. I love tense feelings. I thought that the whisperer war was kinda weak compared to the comics. I don't like the way Ron, Pete, Sam, Carol & Noah were handled. The group thought they had too much power bc they were more experienced than the alexandrians & it really pissed me off. Season 1 was a good start. I didn't really like the farm but, I did like how they handled Shane & Carl. I loved the Daryl development. To think they were gonna kill him off. The only storyline I didn't like about season 4 & 3 was Beth & Andrea I loved the rest. Season 9 really got me back into the show. I still don't like the Tara & Addie pike choices. It should've been Gage & Kelly instead. The now way out episode is my favorite episode from season 6. Season 6 had storylines for years.
I did not know Daryl almost died. When did they plan to kill Him off originally?
@@HoboDucks After season 1 Merle was supposed to come back & become a villain and Daryl was supposed to kill him before he could do anything. Then they would have him look bad & Shane would go crazy & kill him.

Seasons 7&8 should've been one Season with March To War being episodes 1-8 and All Out War being episodes 9-16. It would've made those events so much more snappier and quick. This goes for Seasons 9, 10, and 11 but Imma give those a pass sine they felt they were in a corner.
I agree with you season 7 and 8 should of been one season. Both really suffered because of that Gimple really lost it when he thought he could stretch the savours over 2 and a bit seasons instead of doing 1.
@@HoboDucks Yeah. Same goes for The Whisperers but they felt like they were in a corner as a result of Gimple being, well, Gimple. The show can realistically be 9 Seasons, Season 7 being The Negan Saga, Season 8 being the majority of the Whisperer Arc and instead of The Reapers, have Season 9A be the final battle with Beta and have it overlap with Eugene and co’s “entry” into The Commonwealth.
Yeah also maybe at a push 8 seasons of the farm arc was like in the comics and only a couple of episodes so season 3 and 2 could be one season. Shortening the run would make this show so much cleaner.
@@HoboDucks I strangely don’t mind the extended Farm Arc and think there’s like only two episodes that should be cut and/or merged with others. Season 2 easily could have 10-11 episodes as opposed to 13. Also, merging it with The Prison Arc would be weird since it would mean a slightly extended arc with The Inmates to give Season 2 some climax.
It is not as bad as people used to say it was the longer time at the farm does definitely help some characters develop like Carol and Daryl. Also gives us more time with Shane which is great. I think it could work like season 9s bridge story and the whisperer story. So share the same season but other then that different arcs. It is just a little too long for me.

Season 8 the worst of the worst
Season 7 pacing problems and stupid trash people and Oceanside
Season 6 this was the beginning of the fall of the gimple era
Season 11 mixed bag all around but a good season over all
Season 10 first half was good the second half and bonus episodes are mixed
Season 2 good inner conflict, but with stupid moments
Season 3 solid season, but to many deaths
Season 4 solid season all around.
Season 9 this season has no right being this good! It had everything against it, but Kant managed to pull it off.
Season 5 this the main group at their best, it has some bad moments, like I feel like Tyreese and Beth’s deaths could of been handled better, but the impact of it is important, and every death in this season matters, and doesn’t feel like death over hall.
Season 1 great introduction of everything, I could re watch this season any time.
Good reasons for each season can’t really argue with any even the ones I really like you have a point.

With what we got it could of easily been 4 episodes maybe, they was rushed with the final season so there was not really a point to do them. But yes In a world if the walking dead had a season 12 the reapers needed a whole season to themselves. In its current state I feel we needed less personally.

Very interesting list. I do agree season 7 and 8 are not too bad in a marathon type of viewing and I think work better that way. The one episode at a time really make it worse then it is with those seasons because of the number of focused episodes.

The heroes did not become the villains. The saviors were not living their lives they were extorting three communities prior to the group’s arrival to which Jesus asked them or made a deal with them to take out the saviors.

What I mean is that it is the darkest we have seen our hero’s go. Rick and his group go into the base with the intent to kill everyone in their sleep. That is not really something a hero would do. At that point they are slipping into the grey more or less. Maybe villain is too strong a word.
Here's the Thing:
To deal with some forms of Evil, it does get messy. In WWII, the Allies did cause some City Destruction, such as Dresden, etc., but, the Result, was Good..I'm not in support of wanton Destruction, but, some situations, there is Not much Solely Pure actions. Interesting, the Only real question that has come from this: Perhaps, the Allies should've targeted the Gas Chambers, even, at the Cost of a Longer War..but, then, there was the Question , if it would've resulted in Concentration Camp Prisoners, waiting to be gassed..Do you see the Problems?
All Human Beings & All Characters are Not Perfect, living in a Garden of Eden, sometimes, there's No Perfect Answers.
In the Comics, there were less, but , certainly some Savior k*d..the Equivalent of Timmy's Brigade & the Group, with Dwight, when Abraham got the Arrow in the 👁🗨..(Denise got it on the Show.).

Good ranking. I do understand why you put it lower. I personally liked Tyreese’s death. I thought it was a cool remix of Morgan’s comic death did think it was dumb Noah got stuck by one Walker and basically got him killed though.

Worst S7, S8, S6, S1, S2, S10, S3, S4, S9/S11 and best is obviously season 5 it’s just crazy how good season 5
I still don’t understand why Gimple keeps moving to shows and ruining them. Angela Kang was amazing, and I wish she was doing the Rick and Michon reunion series.
My favorite season is definitely a toss up between s5 and s1. They’re both amazing but s1 is kinda like my comfort season that I go back to once in a while. It was just so simple back then and there’s beauty in simplicity

If you like the show you might really like the comics. It is very interesting to see how different both versions of the walking dead are by the end. Like the comics Carl does not die and rick makes it to the commonwealth arc.

I disagree. I thought 7 and 8 were alright. I get that it was dragged out a bit, and that probably would have pissed me off more if I watched it weekly, but I didn't think they were bad. I think it started getting worse as it went along, so I'd say 11 was worst, then 10, then 9, but 4 is my favorite season, then 3 then 6 and 5. 1 doesn't count. It's the best because that's what started this awesome journey lol
And I gotta say, the first half of season 4 is the most boring part. I liked it when all our characters had to split, and they were split up, and Daryl and Beth in the mortuary lol that shit was cool AF to me. The claimers, all that shit.

I do have to say those seasons are way better watching in one go Netflix style. Watching week to week back in the day for season 7 and 8 was so annoying as we was waiting weeks to find out about the characters we liked. Now it is better though as you can just go all the way through. So my opinion on those seasons is mostly influenced by how I originally watched them.
That is very interesting that you are a flip of me. I thought some episodes in part B was amazing like e14 and e16 but I don’t think I meshed well with it overall. I mostly like part one because of the sickness arc. I thought that was a very cool idea to have the villain for say be something you can’t see or fight in a normal way. Also the birth of Rambo Carol is in part A.
I probably don’t like season 7, 8 and 4B as much as you because I like stories that touch base with most characters each episode kinda like game of thrones did, not the way the walking dead sometimes does with one at the time stories.
Season 3 was good, but Andreas death was loongg overdue

Did you not like the commonwealth arc at all? The reaper arc was shafted definitely needed it’s own season 9 episode was not enough for the arc and nothing really happened. Needed a big fight at Alexandria at least as half the characters never really knew there was a new threat.

Yeah maybe the final season needed a little more time. Did not help they started filming before they finished writing. I think they should of taken a year off so they can really plan and nail the final season.

That’s my ranking even tho u don’t think the walking dead truly captured the magic of the first 6 seasons I still enjoyed season 9 ,10&11 I think at worse I think those seasons are watchable but I think the best is definitely season 9 stands out as a great of the last 3 seasons of the walking dead and I think Season 11 wasn’t bad I agree it shouldn’t have been 24 episodes but I think the second and third half of season 11 is what made it really good in my opinion.

I think season 11 would be so much better if they waited a little longer before filming as the first 9-10 episodes of season 11 are filmed with covid restrictions.
1. Season 5 (everything was perfect, but jessie and rick seem akward from my point of view idk but the rest is awesome)
2. Season 9 (Rick's departure was sad, but done right unlike Carl's death, the rest of the season is cool, tbh I don't mind ep. + beta is a cool character)
3. Season 6 (awesome, the only thing that drags it down is morgan's crap with too life os precious but I'm glad they fixed it in FTWD)
4. Season 4 (the beginning of murder jacket rick, the fist episoded are gold)
5. Season 3 (merle comeback, rick becomes hardened by the outbreak, ans the best villain of the whole show, The Governor.)
6. Season 2 (too much time at the farm actually played out ok in the end, focusing on character development and drama + bald shane)
7. Season 1 (idk the same as s2 but shane's rub head gave extra points this season)
8. Season 10 (was solid but the bonus episodes except for negan's episode were shit)
9. Season 7 negan's spaghetti
10. Season 11 (commonwealth was bad for me, too much uneccessary sub-plots & fillers, but the reaper arc was awesome and original and done kinda dirty cuz pope could have been a cool villain and Rick & Michonne return in the finale saved it from the least favourite season)
11. Season 8 (everything is bad here, mabye the only thing cool in this season is the trash people's demise and the end because negan is awesome )
P.S : all seasons are great more or less however the final season has characters that every thing speak is so philosophal that it makes me think to inflect damage upon myself ffs

2. Season 3 ( Great action, David Morrissey is brilliant, best villain)
3. Season 5 ( who season is utterly amazing, my only issue is the hospital arc, it could have been two episodes)
4. Season 4 ( agree with what you said, but what saves it is the finale , Scott Wilson and David Morrissey)
5. Season 2 - (yes it is slow but John Bernthal Carries this season and it has a really great contained story)
6. Season 9 - great way to go back to the consistency of character stories and horror
7. Season 6 - great season but it’s biggest problem is the awful cliffhangers and gimple speak of pretentious dialogue
8. Season 7 - It drags hard but has a couple fantastic episodes
9. Season 11 - a fine way to end things I guess
10. Season 10 - The bonus episodes are what saved the season

I think season 5 has the same quality writing of season 4. But I do understand what you mean about season 4 it is when the walking dead just become this amazing thing

I agree with everything here except season 6 is too high in my opinion. The pacing was slow also the Glenn fake out death was dumb.
Where would you place it in your list? In my original ranking it was second to last but with my rewrites videos I rewatched the season and it does have some really cool moment. Other then the Glen stuff and the ending I think it is a good season. No way out was really cool and the build up to negan was good.

Tbh all seasons are amazing in different ways, even the low ranked seasons, and I think the whole show would be completely perfect if it didn't have all the bad fillers, if they didn't rush some things like the season 10B finale, and if they didn't have really slow paced seasons like season 7, but even then the walking dead was amazing and I loved every second of it.

@@HoboDucks well Season 10 so far is Great, I’m 10 Episodes in, very interested in Season 11
If you like season 10 you might love season 11 and both seasons have fantastic moments and episodes. However be warned back half of season 10 and start of 11 are covid made episodes so that quality will suddenly drop. Those covid episodes are mostly the reason why they are so low in my ranking. i personally rather they waited for covid to end before making more episodes instead of rushing out more with lesser quality.
Season 8 is so much better than ppl say it is imo
I feel there are parts of season 8 that is amazing like the last couple of episodes are really good but there is a lot of issues with the characters being dumb and story is stretched out. However this is just my opinion and your opinion on season 8 is just as valid as mine.
What really pissed me off about season ten was that they were afraid to make Daryl lose in a fight to beta. I love Daryl, but beta should have kicked his ass. It didn’t make sense for this absolute tank to lose to a strong opponent, but not nearly as physically strong as him
Daryl did lose to a fight with Alpha though in that season however he did like next episode immediately get better which was dumb.

Season two is by a mile for me the best season of the show. Shane is one of the best characters on the show Jon bernthals performance is exceptional.
The episodes that are considered boring aren’t boring at all.
It explores the relationships between more of the characters Maggie Glenn, Hershel and rick, Glenn and dale, Andrea plays a good part in this season how she’s still depressed about dale saving her and how she decides she wants to live.
The rick Shane and Lori plot.
But most importantly the start of carols and daryls friendship rewatching the season it’s really nice to see how they started off.
Also as the season progresses daryl warms to the group especially after Sophia’s death.
Imo the second half of season 2
Them 6 episodes are the best set of episodes we’ve got.
Nebraska first time rick kills people.
Triggerfinger is a tense episode especially for the start of the show with the shootout at the bar and the start of the Randall story.
18 miles out exceptional episode and performance from Jon and Andy.
And the last 3 need no explanation just peak TV amazing

I think season 1 is one of the weakest as well tbh
A lot of people look back at season one with lots of nostalgia
