IMHO the death of Glenn--coupled with Abraham's death at the same time--was too much and too negative. So was Carl's death. I can understand the drop-off of viewers. Yet I remained/remain a faithful viewer.

Losing Glenn in S7, Carl's death & Morgan's departure S8, Rick and Maggie in S9. l honestly don't blame the fandom not sticking around after Michonne's departure in S10.
This is why more seasons of The Ones Who Live is so vital and People would go insane having Morgan in S2.

It wasn't specifically Glenn's death, it was feeling that terrified and sick over how brutal the deaths collectively were.. in a sense we were each an NPC in the episode and felt every blow of that bat.. gruesome... I almost stopped watching.. and I remember my daughter and I looked at each other and said it was too much...

Plus, it was too brutal since the character of Negan stuck around for the entire run of the show. Combined with the long drawn out Savior war, Carl’s death and Negan not getting what he deserved for that lineup, it just started to feel like a soap opera and not a gritty, realistic, apocalyptic show.

100%! Everyone would have had time to mourn Abraham, and comic readers would be wondering if they were going to stick to the comics or not about Glenn's fate. I loved both characters, but Abe's death was sadly overshadowed by Glenn's which was a shame.

The anticipation to see who it was, absolutely had my feelings in every direction: watching angels in slow motion over and over, listening to everyone's opinions and searching for leaks was insane. When Abraham got the bat I was shocked and satisfied at the same time, then to watch Glenn get his comic death I was devistated, in disbelief and heart broke. That's the last time my son watched it, runied our Sunday nights together😢 I lost my years of a walking dead buddy. Me: It was a emotional roller-coaster no other show has ever gave me so I've been solo. Im one of their biggest fans for life ❤TWD

The worst part about Glenn's death is that it completely overshadows Abraham's death. Abraham was also a major character. If they wanted to do 2 deaths it should've been Aaron.

Glenn's death within TWD Comics worked but it didn't work within AMC's TWD tv series, looking back on it Negan should have just killed Abraham & walked away, also why make believe Glenn died during the dumpster moment within TWD Season 6A of TWD tv series, just to do Glenn's death no matter what, it was just so stupid and ridiculous

Yeah, Andrew Lincoln is spot on. Glen’s death was devastating. It really felt like you lost a family member of your own. It was so traumatic, I still can’t watch that scene. The show was still good but, It was the road down hill as far as the fandom was concerned. The 2nd blow was Carl’s death. They never fully recovered after the fact.

100% I remember talking to strangers all the time about walking dead during seasons 4/5/6 Never been into a show as much as I was during those seasons. I think the idea of Abraham dying in the 6 finale and Glenn dying in 7 -1 would have worked better. I think the reason people didn’t come back after that initial drop off with Glenn’s death was that it was too agonizing to watch the group suffer for basically 2 seasons with very little retribution for all the deaths Negan caused. Also I still think it was a complete misstep to not have fear be about the back story of how the whisperers formed. They couldn’t do it because they dragged on “all out war” it would have been brilliant. Fear would have ended with the characters crossing over and with an actual purpose. The writers didn’t know how to make Rick not killing Negan make sense either which seemed to be part of the reason for Carls death. This show is about Rick and his family and all the other characters as good as some were once Rick and Carl were gone the show became a spinoff even with Judith still around.

I think the reason why fans loved it in the comics but not in the show is that Glenn wasn’t nearly beloved in the comics as in the show. He was important sure but he was kind of bland. The TV show Glenn is way better and at the time he was the only moral compass left so to have him die such a violent death was certainly jarring. And the show kind of became too nihilistic with Season 7 so it make sense to me why Glenn’s death ruined the show for some people

  • @x_G3ist_x

People don't let twd watch bc of Glenn's death in itself, it's bc people were disappointed since Glenn almost died 7 episodes before and AMC played with it for a month, and then they do the same thing again but the fans waited 7 months to see that they killed Glenn that definitely bothered the fans, that's tiring

    Hey Dan,
I want to hear your thoughts. I was thinking of this yesterday and of course total speculation. But at this rate of the spin offs (DD, DC, and probably something else) already being planned for 4 seasons in DD case. I kind of feel like we will just get these spinoffs leading into them having a FINALE endgame spinoff in 2030. That would mark the 20 year anniversry and I bet they would love to market the hell out of that. Maybe a 10 episode finale or something like that. Also wouldn’t be surprising if it is another 5 years before Rick and michone decide to come back anyways. As well this would be a great way for them to hype up all the classic characters returning. Thoughts?

The way people abandoned that show was something that should be studied,it went from pop culture TV show to something no one likes today except the core fanbase that hang on,and it wasn't about Glenn really but how they did,it was too much, the gore was unnecessary, the writing didn't help and Negan being on screen constantly was off-putting

It was sad and brutal but that's the show and that's the dark and bleak world and setting it takes place in. It made you feel something, isn't that the point of a story? IMHO, I think Carls death was the result of Andrew Lincoln deciding to leave the show. He had wanted to leave for some time, and when he made the decision, Scott Gimple decided to let Chandler Rigg's go. I really believe Carl would have lived if Rick had remained on the show.

    • @kimberlywilmoth9184

Chandler Rigg's had just signed his contract for another few years, and then they pulled the plug. Why? I am sure Andrew Lincoln didn't know this would happen to Carl's character if Rick left the show. I believe the story being told was invented so fans would blame Scott Gimple and not Andrew Lincoln.

t television show right? but the thing is scenarios like this would absolutely happen if in our Reality the world collapsed - people psyche would flip upside down but unfortunately I guess the walking dead wasn't seen in that light. The content in walking dead has some of the most gut wrenching experiences that bring forth things like this. I truly believe in some way that AMC adaption of the walking dead has a deeper meaning within the chaos that ensues rick journey - its a sanity playground unraveling rick psyche seeing where the walls of psyche are weak itching him to give up seeing two strangers turn family members banished in the head with a barbed wired baseball bat isn't just some Gory horrific thing that they created to appeal audiences - I might be looking to DEEP but I believe TWD was stepping into an arc of Hopeless on a scale that people can't relate to because our world has a sense of sanity at least in surface level . Zombie Apocalypse or WorldWide disaster is a Red Flag in the human psyche it really shows that there was something going wrong in the world even before the World went to shit and maybe what this scene didn't do correctly was not showing the beginning of the zombie apocalypse at the start of TWD. Yes we
got to see Rick but he was already just thrown inside of the apocalypse without having that experience of living normal life then seeing the world change right before his eyes.
