Back about 1975-76 I was just a kid. This was before the internet, before MTV, when all we had FM radio. I probably owned 6 albums total. If they didn't play them on the radio you would never know a group existed. So, I had never heard of Queen. I was living in St. Louis and the local Rock n Roll station KSHE-95 would play 7 albums from start to finish from 6:00 p.m. til midnight on Sunday evening. It was called The Seventh Day. They didn't play any Top 40 since that was what they played during the day. The Seventh Day was for concept albums, new music and eclectic stuff. That's where I first heard Queen. And they just blew me away. They were right up there with Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons, Yes, ELO, Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Every band was unique and every song was a story to be listened to carefully with the headphones on.

I mean, everybody grows up differently with different exposure to music and culture. And I don't think that learning about a singer whose music you don't ordinarily listen to within your peer group is a must in school or whatever, so I understand why he's so oblivious to Queen or Freddy Mercury.. I am just happy that he appreciates Mercurys talent upon his first ever listening to a Queen song, and it proves to me that objectively good music cuts through all the cultural differences and unites the human kind all over the world :)

@@DevilsBeefCake Hi. Thanks for replying but to be fair. Most radio stations have played this track and a lot by Queen. I often laugh at adults that's haven't heard of Queen and look at react videos with a pinch of salt. As I can't believe people are that closed off from types of music. I also can't believe radio stations or demographics listen to one type of music in the US. But having been to the US many times and see news stations that broadcast nothing outside of the state they are in. I'm not supprised. Queen is one of the biggest bands in history worldwide. It's like saying I've never heard of Star Wars
if it was a react video of Tools Right in Two. I'd agree because mainstream media don't play excellent bands that are controversial

    • @DevilsBeefCake
      @DevilsBeefCake 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Ceeb22 as a german, I agree that most of the main stream radio stations have played Queen in some capacity, but I have never heard Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio as it is quite frankly too long of a song and too „complex“ for the average listener that just wants some entertainment on their way to work or whatever. When the staitions play Queen songs it is mostly songs like „I‘ve got to break free“ or „another one bites the dust“. I have never been to the US myself, but I‘m assuming that the content creators peer group doesn‘t consist of avid rock music listeners and that he himself hasn‘t gotten into much contact with this kind of music, just because of his cultural background, but again, I‘m just assuming this.
Personally I got into Rock because of my father and my friends, whose fathers introduced them into Rock aswell, so it just built up from there.
And in my opinion, Eminems Lose Yourself is a much more Mainstream Radio friendly song than Bohemian Rhapsody, even though the latter is a better song objectively (in my opinion).

I cannot even imagine how lucky the three of them were to find each other.. their composition is absolutely legendary, but to find band mates who can effortlessly harmonize 3 different registers of the same key is unheard of nowadays.. and they met each other by chance.

    Interesting factoids:
“Bohemian Rhapsody “ was solely composed, written and produced by Freddie Mercury. The bands label at the time refused to release it as a single because at 6 minutes, they argued the song was too long.
Freddie had a friend whom was a DJ named Kenny Everett. Kenny played the song on his station several times over a few days. The fans were crazy about the song. It has since been considered the best song of the 20th century.
Each member of Queen, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon all penned number one songs, making them the only band to have done so. (Even The Beatles didn’t quite do that.)
Freddie’s voice has been registered by musicologists as having a 4 to 5 octave range. (A piano has 7)
Unfortunately, Freddie contracted the HIV/AIDS virus at some point in the early 80’s, was diagnosed in 1986 and sadly succumbed to it in November of 1991, just one day before announcing publicly that he had the disease. *I was 20 when he passed. I was shocked and cried until my jaw ached when the news of his death broke along with millions of other fans. I still cry over his death. Several members of the music industry declared Freddie as the best singer/ front man of all-time.
Each member of the band are highly intelligent as well as obviously talented.
Freddie had a degree in design.
Brian May has a doctorate of astrophysics and has worked on projects with NASA.
John Deacon has a degree in electronic engineering.
Roger Taylor has a degree in biology.
Almost everything about Queen and each member is fascinating.
There is a fantastic documentary called “Queen: The Days of Our Lives”. You must see it.
Welcome to the Queen community! Your journey will change your life. 💜💫👑

This kid's (I mean kid n a genuinely affectionate way) reaction is just absolutely delightful.
Most people get caught out with each musical shift. Not this guy, he's just vibing, loving the instruments, loving the mood, being thrilled with the effect of the pan through his headphones...
And, both adorably and astutely, letting us know that he recognises an amazingly wonderful singer and his voice.
I LOVE how in tune with the composition in its entirety this guy was.
He claims at the end that he feels like learning an instrument; the inference is he has never learned to play any before...
I have watched a few of his reactions now and it's very very evident that he has that innate musicality that not everyone does.
I hope he has actually looked into learning to play something. He gets music, he would get so much out of being able to play and improvise a jam.

I know a ton of people (all under 40) who don't know who Frank Sinatra is.
Edit: Who is one of the greatest singers of all time

But Michael Jackson especially, was a WORLDWIDE MEGASTAR, a household name in just about every country on Earth. Queen could fill a stadium in a lot of countries, but they never got quite as famous. Of course, Elvis was the king of rock and roll, Michael Jackson was the king of pop.
But Freddie Mercury was the QUEEN.

Yeah, but personally, Elvis wasn't a great loss. Not saying it was nice he passed, that's sad, but as a performer ... eh ...

Freddie Mercury was one in a billion. So was the talent and chemistry of Queen.. The bass player split after Fred died... he took it really hard.

Brian May, the guitarist, built that guitar himself together with his dad.

I am of that age where I can't remember the first time I ever heard this song, or Queen in general. To relive this moment through the eyes of someone else was incredibly heart warming- thank you for your pure reaction, your honesty, and thank you for allowing me to revisit a memory of my own that I thought was lost. Great vid mate.

I personally like the stop reactions, if I wanted to listen to the song, I would stream it, I watch these to see these artists and fans of other music groove and dig on my musical influences as a musician. I'm 55 , I think it is awesome that these folks dig and respect old school music. Good job.
