Required for survival no question. Sodium and Potassium and even other Chloride sourced ions are nutrients and essential. I've only heard hear-say, though one of the least I've never read about online; death penalties, that I guess might have had a coupe-de-grace or allowed acquittal if survived, was eating your salt ration. Amazing how carbs are so used so much that seems to be based on caste or social standing if I recall. I guess I can see other sources of complete proteins that are better and plant based historically depending on people group if that's the thing. www.saltassociation.co.uk/education/salt-history/roman-times/
Interesting break down since I've not searched online for the penalty method in a few, though looks like this is the rations during a period in time as there were a few periods of the soldiers with different variables regarding rations:

God bless, stay on the keto no matter what they tell you! I've been doing it for several months now and had my bloodwork performed last week, got the results today, my blood sugar last time I was checked by my doctor was nearly 5 years ago 486 and my A1C was 11.1 and that was nearly 5 years ago (before last week)... so it for sure was quite higher than that, but I never went back😬 my current numbers are fasting blood sugar 148 (which is higher due to dawn effect, it goes down a bit after eating) A1C is 6.5 which is good, but they now say it should be 6.0 or under but you see the results I've managed due to starting on keto! So hold on to hope & keep on it!👍🙏💞

Had heart cath, had to have a stent due to "severe blockage of a main artery". Don't want to do that again. Seriously trying to watch how many carbs I take in. Some days are great, some not. I'm still doing 100% better than before I started on this journey. Off breads, grains, added sugars and bad fats. Trying to avoid hidden sugars and bad fats. Weight loss is slow or stalled. Think its because of artificial sweeteners. Am working on that now too. Livin' the dream!

My question for you to consider is carnivors have teeth like a dog. Vegetarians have teeth like a horse. Human teeth are both, but more like a horse. This concerns me. Should I eat more grass? That would be easier than running down a rabbit even on thyroid medication.

One summer I was a counselor at a camp with no air-conditioning in hundred plus degree weather. My ankles were swollen to the point that they hung over my shoes! The camp nurse suggested that I put a packet of salt onto my salad and I could not even taste it! So she said put another packet of salt onto your salad. I could not believe it! I thought salt was the devil! So, the edema went down immediately! It was incredible! this was many years ago. We had no idea that table salt was bad for you.

Have you ever had a patient who has his/her lymph nodes puff up (followed by getting a cold with symptoms not just keto flu) every time they start to go carnivore?
It happens to me and it has been the biggest bottle neck in losing my belly.

Hey doc, watching this video from Bulgaria now, I'm a Bulgarian. Liked your channel a few months ago and I'm watching video after video since. I'm 50 and I had heart attack 8 months ago. They put 2 stents in my arteries, told me I had atherosclerosis and insulin resistance to early diabetes type 2. They put me on statins but I stopped them three months ago and substituted them with supplement that has no side effects and normalizes cholesterol rather than keeping it artificially at the lowest possible end. I absolutely stopped all sugar and flour - any food that contains or is made of, heavily restricted fruits, for 7 months ditched meat except fish but I started moderately eating it again, stopped alcohol, eat mostly lots of leafy greens, salads, lots of nuts and some seeds, no potatoes and rice for their high GI index, eat eggs frequently, lots of lives and extra virgin olive oil, avocados, slowly started introducing more butter (from zero to perhaps 50 grams a day), some cheese and fermented foods (especially during winter months as they are most often produced) and basically that is my diet. I started intermittent fasting 2 months ago, with two meals a day in less than 8 hour window, and did two 5 day total fasts and I'm about to do my third one next week aiming at 7 days. So far for six months I lost 34 kilograms (75 pounds) and for the last two months I maintain 74 kilos (163 pounds) - I'm 1.84 meters tall (about 6.036 feet). My fasting insulin level dropped below 5, my blood glucose is still at the higher end of the heathy norm but I'm sure it will get better over time, and my cholesterol readings are getting better and they are now all at what is considered normal levels. Doc says I should keep my LDL at absolute low with statins but they prevent HDL going up, and I experience back pain and so I ditched the statins. For the past 4-5 years I had adenoma of the parotid gland in my right temple (19 by 25 millimeters) and after my second 5 day fast it shrunk and disappeared. I knew I was to have it for life and hope not to grow more because the surgery is highly risky there. I guess autophagy dealt with it.
I've learnt so much from you and your channel, as well as other docs on TH-cam and I'm so grateful to all of you for your excellent service to health and humanity. Thank you soo much doc! Can't stress that enough. I have no trust in doctors and medicine because of Big Pharma and the mercantile nature of modern so called medicine, so I had to educate myself and get the responsibility of my health in my hands. Thanks again and God bless you!!! With love from Bulgaria.

I buy Saldoro Ursalz (Medium grained). It comes from salt mines here in Germany.
On the keto I started being sensitive to a salt taste. And I learned long ago from Dr. Ken Berry and other keto supporting doctors that salt is essential for a high fat low carb diet.

Salt added to food is corrosive to the blood vessels. Causes many hemorogic strokes each years. Asian get the most because they us so mich salt. Americans take first place for most ischemic strokes. Too much processed oil in a bottle of any kind is too concentrated to eat. But ok to eat the olive, same w/fruit. Eat the the whole thing not the juice. The fiber slows the spike in glucose. The oil is in every product in the grocery store and everything in the restaurant. It doesn't tske much to begin to coat the live but takes years, then it spills over to other organs then finally the belly as viseral fat. Good luck in your health journey
