Imagine not investing on the basis that you haven’t heard of the product before:

Its because even they understand that sometimes even the best sounding product to them will never be the same best souding product to everyone else, for this you need to do market testing and going directly to the customers, dragons are often not customers of the products pitched on dragons den. Especially because dragons are like the 1% so how they process is totally different to how the average person will process and put opinion on something. There wasn't any market testing done on this product so how can you invest in something that might not really hit on customers. The only thing they got is a very convincing presentation from a charismatic person but don't let charisma fool you because reality isn't always what is presented, numbers never lie.
papa mitio - so why did he walk away with 2 dragon thens? Dont let all that marketing jargon dictate your "every" move or you could end up missing out on something special, they are guidelines but they are not a rule of "must".

That was one of the stupidest reasons ever for not wanting to invest in a new product
Because he mentioned it saving a company 2 million. Someone else who works on the project see's the item and mentions something to their boss. Interest in the item rises and there is a buzz. There were two parts to this. One he had used already while the other one was just finished being worked on. He also didn't have the patent with him which they of course would want to look at.
@@melindoranightsilver9298 Also you would get rapid word of mouth also as the construction industry makes heavy use of labour hired on a per day or per project basis. Thus you get a lot of movement of labour between sites operated by different firms. Not to mention the indirect connections that creates between sites and companies via their employees as labourers make social connections some of which persist even when they both move on to seperatate projects later. I would be somewhat surprised if the average construction worker isn't drinking buddies with people working on half a dozen different sites by different operators at any given time. It is just the nature of the indrusty after all the industries primary products are non-consumable goods after all buildings do not spontaniously go away after they have been occupied for a time. Generally the building will continue to exist effectively indefinitely or at least so long as ongoing utlity of the structure remains decently larger than the cost of the minor maintenece needed to maintain it in that usebale condition. Short of some kind of drastic shift in the economic fortunes of the whole area or at least of the property ownert there are not many incentives to radically alter existing structures that still do what they need to do. Other than that buildings are lately likely to persist essentially indefinately until some kind of force majore forces a radical change like a natural disaster, war, economic collapse, or eminent domain people don't tend to smash buildings in current use and replace them simply because they are "old" or somehow "expired".

i feel like these dragons want superman and for someone to always give away the entire company, for zero risk. This guy has reached this point on his own so that makes him a superstar in my eyes.
They want a sales person, but if someone is an inventor / designer he doesn't have to be sales person ... also when they actually meet sales people with an obviously useless product or something that is nothing new they complain about just investing in a 'trading company'.
Of course an inventor will NOT be a sales person and vice versa...
Why is it even a problem if someone takes their time to make a quality product instead of hurrying to sale some unfinished garbage.

Fishy. The dude clearly was doing impression management, trying to seem all humble and "full time firefighter hero". Saying he has no sales experience whatsoever after landing a good presentation. He's been the director of 4 companies, two of which have been closed. All of which have negative assets. He makes it seem he didn't bring patent out of bad judgement, but it was probably on purpose. He didn't even break a sweat when haggling for the price of the deal. I think he's hiding something...
Good points and analysis. The omissions will always be found out once the due diligence process starts so no use pretending not to bring them...

This channel is absolutely spectacular. I used to have to search and search, just to find the same dragons den clips I have already watched to death. I used to watch my favourites in low quality, which were badly cut, if I could even find them.

I was so infatuated by Daniel, I thought his pitch was about gym equipment when I watched the first time through. I was so confused when everyone kept talking about windows and scaffolding.
Jenny did the nicest thing a dragon can do in this negotiation, and it was to muscle Touker into lowering his percentage. Yes everyone keeps moaning (group mentality bullying) about her not investing but she did something quite amazing here. I hoped to see nicer comments about her when scrolling down but it seems even when she does something quite nice she is still the centre of negative comments because people have gotten used to assaulting her just because she hardly invests. How do some of us sleep at night?

She reduced Touker's percentage, then increased her own. In the end it was the same deal for the inventor, 30% of his business gone. I'd hardly call that the nicest thing a dragon can do in the negotiation. She offered half for 10% then revised her offer to take a higher percentage.
I've grown to love Touker. He's always in there making deals and is a great personality.

Why would that be a dealbreaker? Any investment is going to involve due process outside of the show, it's not like saying you'll make an offer here is legally binding. According to comments, jenny and touker pulled out of the deal later. Just make an offer subject to satisfactory patent or something.
