I just love how the husband was already fed up with his mother BEFORE the wedding.
When my mom and dad were getting married, my mom's mom bought her a bedroom set, including a bedframe, headboard, dresser with vanity mirror, and a separate tall dresser, as a wedding gift. After my parents got married and moved in together, my mom came to pick up the bedroom set. My grandmother wouldn't let her take it. She said it would be easier to leave it for when my mom had to move back after my parents would inevitably divorce. She did eventually let them take the set, but she wasn't happy about it. My grandmother died from breast cancer about a year after my parents married and 4 years before I was born. I never knew her, but jokes on her because my parents celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary this year.

I can tell that I'm old. When I was a little kid there was a joke that goes "How can you tell when a fly farts? It flies in a straight line!" That was back in the 70's, some comedian used it. I believe it was George Carlin.

If the son looks like the father did when mom and dad met, and mom and dad are still on good terms, mom sees in the son the man she fell in love with. So then, any woman who comes along is competition. Moms like that need some serious adjusting.

I consider my job to be raising him to walk confidently & successfully AWAY from me. If he can do that, then he will always come home all on his own, and I won't have to worry about him falling in with the wrong relationship. He'll be too healthy & confident for that. MOMS! I told my now daughter in law before they were married, "he's your problem now". She laughed and said she might need a refund. He was just being a little crabby. I'm happy that he found someone who loves him for who he is.

I am also the "guard dog" among my friends. We call me the "angry friend" because I am willing to go toe to toe for a friend at the drop of a hat, and encourage them to stand up for themselves when needed and I can't be there. I nearly put myself between my friend and his new wife at their wedding when a drunk relative wouldn't leave them alone. The only reason I didn't was he gave me the "back down" look.
Mario will soon be living his best life-- no longer shackled to that selfish, walking embarrassment, GRANDKIDS and a new DIL!
Charlotte! This literally just happened and I know you'll get a kick out if it. I'm a granny who lives in South Africa. It's Sunday evening and I'm lying on my bed with my 7 year old granddaughter, she is on her phone and I'm on mine watching you and listening to the whole Victoria drama unfold. My granddaughter who speaks minimal English asks me in Afrikaans to show her what I'm watching. OMG! This was one of your BEST, Charlotte! Everyone should have a friend group like this at least once in their lives. I, too, was "the guard dog," but they called me The Marine. Once, decades ago, a man we didn't know accosted the youngest in our group. I was sitting in the back. Five faces turned to me. I saw, I stood, and I was between the offending man and one of "my kids" in a blink! As one, everyone around them, men and women, took two steps back. Silence fell and one person said, uh oh... I handled the man, verbally. Told him in no uncertain terms that no one touches one of mine and that he wasn't going to move as Security was on the way. (We worked as a team, and as I went into battle mode, another placed the call for military backup.) This man didn't move a muscle. But he did glare at me. I never blinked as I stared him down. As he was escorted out (the police were waiting as he had hit the young woman and charges were filed), someone said, " The Marines have landed." And that's how I got my nickname. ( I had to go into mom mode to help calm down our kid. Poor thing. She was so traumatized. It made me want to hunt the a$$ho1e down. We made sure she got the help she needed though.)

Hi potato 🥔 family. Guard dog here. Four of my friends an I went to a casino. 1 won a $5000 jackpot and said dinner’s on me today. 3 of them decided we should eat at the rooftop restaurant at the hotel we were staying at (we were staying there because we were attending a conference there). Jackpot friend said sure let’s check it out. We went, got seated and given the menu. Cheapest meal was around $100 each then the wine/cocktails were ridiculously expensive. When I heard them deciding on what to have would cost around $1000 plus gratuity. Jackpot winner looked a bit annoyed when I told her what the total would be for the 5 of us, I stood up and said let’s go ladies, we’re eating at Fridays. They were upset and said it was jackpot winner’s offer so she should decide. I grabbed jackpot winner’s purse and walked away with it. They all followed me out cos if they wanted to stay then pay from your pocket. Fridays food was just as good. We all ate, she paid as promised but the bill was around $200 + gratuity. She gave me the wink as a thank you 😁

I think it's so crazy that this is an actual phenomenon in our modern society of narcissistic devouring mothers who incestuously become emotionally involved with their own children. Nobody wants to talk about it but the fact that we have so many stories like this to share that someone as wonderful as Charlotte can have a whole channel built on this kind of content is literally insane. My own mother groomed me to be her man in every way, I am still in therapy and have gone 17 years No contact with her. I think this problem has grown over many decades in our society because mothers are often placed on a pedestal and seen as blameless. These stories are all in good fun, and we laugh but to those of us who have experienced this, it is really shocking that more people don't realize that there are mothers like this.

Can relate, but on a much less severe scale. I think the covert narcs are the worst. You have no allies because to everyone else, she acts like she sprang straight from an angel's ass. I am epileptic and in order for me to fake a seizure I would have to free fall allowing myself to hit and injure my head, pee my pants, severely bite my tongue, convulse for minutes, and then cry hysterically and act like I can’t remember simple facts about myself once I come to. Her whole story reads like a creative writing piece.

@@goose237gooseThere are, for example I have absence epilepsy. During my seizures, my mind blacks out for a few seconds, maybe a minute before I come back to my senses. During so i still can walk around and speak (often total nonsense) Afterwards I’m a bit confused around what’s going on and where I am, also very exhausted and tired. It really drains my energy.
So I would say that OP in that story could have these types of seizures and not the grandmal seizures, like the comment described their own condition.

It sounds kind of like Victoria has a reverse Oedipus Complex with Mark.
Added note: A pinched face is what actress Margaret Hamilton was said to have, especially when, in one of the roles she played, she was annoyed or being spiteful and evil. Someone can also get a pinched face if their face is kind of thin and they suck in some pure, unadulterated lemon juice.

Charlott incase you didn’t know, for the Victoria story, that MIL literally bought a wedding dress from one of the top wedding dress retailers in the USA. Kleinfield is where they film the show “Say Yes to the Dress” and very often wedding dress designers are there in person it’s such an expensive experience and place she really went there WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING AS MIL
A friend of mine's had a mother of equal caliber. When her daughter got married to someone that the mother hated (he said that wouldn't follow orders, and that the daughter would, he would not be the daughter's spouse), she decided to stop the wedding by faking a suicide attempt. The daughter continued with the wedding, which caused the mother to cut contact.
Oh wow, sometimes the trash takes itself out in the most unhinged ways. 😬
