I crocheted a beautiful baby blanket for a friends baby shower. It was really intricate and took me months and cost a lot due to the natural fiber yarn. I was told by the mother of the friend that it was considered cheap to give a homemade gift when a new mom needs supplies for her 1st baby. She then handed me a 5 page list of items my friend still needed and said I could have what I chose delivered. I was flabbergasted and so embarrassed because she said it in front of a good number of people. Luckily, my friend called me later, horrified by her mothers behavior, and said that the blanket was her favorite gift because it's something her child will cherish for years and years. She's a good one, the mom, not so much, haha!
I also crochet and that sounds horrific. I would be devastated if someone were to do that, especially in front of people. I’m so glad your friend called you to apologize on behalf of her disgusting mother.
That person was awful. I'm glad your friend called you and told you how grateful she was. I also had someone crochet a baby blanket for my son as a gift for my baby shower and I was so happy. He's 26 years old now and I still have it. Some day he can use it for his own baby.
I was gifted stunning, soft, crocheted blankets for both my children and they remain my favourite gifts ever. Our children still have and use them. Bottles, nappies, bum warmers, etc., get thrown/given away but that is a treasured gift that stays forever! The same person gifted our kids a handmade quilt for their Secondary School graduation. Oldest took her’s to Uni with her. She did bring them back home on her first return because she didn’t want it ruined. You’re a fabulous friend and extremely gifted. 💚💚💚🍀
As a wedding gift for my niece I scrapbooked her wedding - I was really into that at the time. It took around 100 hours and was gorgeous. She married someone from another country and was called in by emigration to prove they were really married. She took her scrapbook. Everyone in the office stopped working to look at it. They all said it was obviously a real wedding. Best gift I’ve ever given ❤😅❤
My cousins first marriage she was used and he got to Canada. He left her 1 month later saying he was going back. No he just went to Toronto. Long story there. But years later she met the one! Married and he moved to Canada. They have issues and are working together, love each other no doubt about that and they are amazing together. They did everything immigration asked. But I heard her cry many night worrying about the immigration steps.
One of the BEST gifts we got at our wedding was a folding card table. It was from an older couple from our church and they said they had recieved one just like it at their wedding 40+ years prior. They used to play cards, do puzzles, and play games as a family at the card table. It was such a place of togetherness and happy memories for them, they wanted to give that to us too. It was probably only $30 -50, but it has been well used by us and when I pull it out I think of Ruth and Arnold playing crib together. They aren't alive any more but I treasure this table. It's not the cost that counts
Oh wow, my parents got a folding card table as a wedding gift too. We use it every birthday and Christmas for appetizers and desserts. If there were enough guests we’d make it the “kids’ table” while the grownups got the big table.
But we're they 'friends' to begin with? I put a comment saying op hasn't seen her home she isn't in the group chat there's so many things a 'friend' would know and doesnt she even went to the dress fitting! the whole in one thing and not in the next is so weird to me people dont need to be joint at the hip. But they hadn't spoken about the cake for a while so I'm assuming they hadn't spoken at all? That's what I'm getting?
One of my bridesmaids (also the best man's wife) did cakes as a side hustle. She did both the bridal cake & groom's cake as their wedding gift to us. We were so grateful for not only saving us money, but the hassle of finding someone else to do them. WE actually gave HER a gift as a thank you. Some people are way too entitled to other people's time & skills. Being a bride is no excuse to being a choosing beggar!
Yes, the bride and groom typically get small gifts for the bridal party. My friend got us each a pearl bracelet to wear for the ceremony. It was really nice. For my sister's wedding the women's Bible study group offered to provide the food and a friend of my mother did our makeup for free. The use of the church was free for members of the congregation. Everyone was still given a tip for their effort. It's just what you do.
My friend offered to do the alterations on my wedding gown and my maid of honour’s as well. She did such a phenomenal job, I truthfully didn’t trust anyone else to do the alterations. She said it was her gift to us. I was so overwhelmed by her kindness. I stopped by her house yesterday and slipped 300US in her pocketbook. The dress’s turned out exactly as planned and she did all the work while working full time. She took such an incredible burden off my shoulders that in all honesty, I can never repay her for. *My husband and I got married last Saturday in the Church finally! We got married in a civil ceremony in 1997, I wore a lovely skirt suit that I wore to work often and he wore a suit. Nothing fancy but it was rather nice. Our wedding last weekend was phenomenal and beat the civil ceremony hands down! It was a morning wedding with a brunch and PERFECT! Yes, we’re older now and could have paid a lot of money but why? I followed our family traditions, I’m the sole heir now, but there was no need to pay a fortune for the wedding. We’ve an ancestral home in Ireland and a few in the States. Anyone who travelled to our wedding stayed in our home, we had the room as well as multiple vehicles for them to choose from. A few needed to stay in a hotel, as per protocol but again it did not break the bank as they say.
It also seems like she was comfortable with spending all that money (despite apparently being very frugal) because it was HIS money. Everyone has a budget until you're spending someone else's money, then you suddenly develop expensive taste in everything, haha
This is what actual friends do for each other. The bride from the story is obviously a narcissist not worthy of friendship. People like you and your friend give me hope.
Absolutely!!! I had a wonderful friend who did my bridesmaid’s makeup, and a friend who drove us around for our photos. They both got gifts because we were grateful they wanted to be part of our day.
My daughter and her fiancé are paying for their own wedding. My husband and I wanted to help out so we bought her dress. It was $1700. When I went with her to buy a veil, I discovered how easy they are to make so I saved her $250 and it cost me $11. plus a few hours time. 😁And I also offered to make their cake because the one she wants is small with a simple design. I’m happy to save them some money by helping out. ❤
My hair stylist/ friend did my hair as my wedding gift. I paid her to do my maid of honors hair. Any one that is willing to comp an actual service just for a seat at your special day is a real one! How you gunna say a whole a$$ cake isn't a gift? I literally asked for just a cake for my birthday. A Cake is THE GIFT!!
Exactly, all I ever ask for my birthday from my husband is a cake. Its a gift. In fact the definition of a gift is "a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present."
Right? My Dad and Step-Mom gave me my wedding cake, a friend offered to DJ my wedding, and I borrowed my wedding dress. Seriously, my whole wedding cost $250 including the license and officiant. Of course I didn't feed everyone either, but it was a small wedding. I was so grateful. This bride is a money hungry monster....
We got a $5 check from an older couple in the family at our wedding as our gift. These people were in their 90s. They thought it was really thoughtful, or it was all they could afford. I didn't care. They were there for my wedding. That was what I wanted. The $5 gift was a bonus.
At my baby shower, one of my friends who had very little money gifted me a bunch of baby items, blankets, outfits etc. It was obvious that she had gone to thrift stores and bought pre loved items. She was so sweet and bought so much stuff. So did I b**ch that she got me used items, no way. I profusely thanked her for the lovely gifts, and she was overjoyed when I brought my baby to church in one of the cute little outfits she’d given me. ❤❤ ❤
That is a true friend. If she had no money, she literally gave you all she had. Receiving such a gift would have brought me to tears. And thrift stores really aren't that bad. They've even got new things in there. I shop in there rather frequently. 😊
This is so sweet. Babies grow so fast that the original owners of those clothes probably didn’t have them long anyway, better for someone else to get use out of them. And your friend was probably able to pick up a lot more for the money she had to spend. I wish everyone thought like you!
My wife's grandmother made us a beautiful quilt as a wedding gift. Some of the squares of fabric came from off-cuts of what was used to make the wedding and bridesmaid's dresses (sewn by my MIL), and also from the skirt my wife was wearing the night we met (which my wife made for herself but had outgrown). All our kids were conceived underneath it. It sure meant a lot more to us than a small kitchen appliance would have.
Many years ago I attended a small intimate wedding of a friend and colleague. The bride and groom were both lawyers and both had very talented friends and family. The wedding was in the backyard of the house they just purchased. The brides family owned a nursery and her sister filled the flowerbeds with beautiful flowers. The groom’s friends were members of a chamber orchestra and played for the wedding and celebration afterward. Both knew the judge who performed the wedding ceremony. The bride pouchssed disposable cameras (this was before cell phones) and asked guests to take pictures as they liked. All of these things were seen as the only gifts they wanted. One of the brides favorite picture was taken by her nephew and was a closeup of a bee on one of the flowers. The best wedding I have ever attended. It was full of love and respect for all
That sounds perfect! So much more respectful and special than having the bride stand there with a calculator toting up the value of the gifts against the cost of the wedding, or demanding more gifts because the baker didn't give her enough stuff already!
That sounds utterly wonderful. Why have so many weddings become more of a coronation of the bride as a Disney Princess than a celebration of love between the couple?
That’s lovely. Of the 91 guests I had, I don’t think they all brought a present. And I’m ok with that! I didn’t get married for gifts. I had a wedding to celebrate my husband and I committing and wanted my loved ones to be there for us. I wanted THEM. The tradition of gifts was really because couples didn’t used to live together so it was a way to set them up in their new house. It’s now unnecessary. I hate the expectation.
That is how almost all the weddings in our family are put together. I have made umpteen bridesmaids dresses and helped with lots of other things and made the wedding gown for one nieces wedding (that never actually happened) and did all the alterations for her sister. I have never been asked for a gift above and beyond.
i'm so here for Mike being that husband that randomly pops into his wife's videos while she's filming and they just laugh together and we get to witness a glimpse of their wholesomeness and pure friendship! ☺
A newly aquired friend made my wedding cake as her gift. One layer was vanilla and the other layer was lemon and I fell in love with the lemon layer. I refused to share any of it with anyone, it was that good. Hubby got one slice and that was it. Luckily the vanilla layer was the larger cake so I shared that with my wedding guests, but, I went and personally boxed up the lemon cake and took it out to my car to ensure it was not touched by anyone LOL.
You'd be surprised. I'm very crafty -- multiple hobbies -- and over the years, I've weeded out the people who think that my skills exist to serve them. But there are ALWAYS people who just see you as a resource to exploit!
I made my friend's recently and it cost around $200, maybe more in materials. It also took 5 days (I made a 3-tier cake and about 80 cucpakes, also with each tier being different flavors). She was over the moon and forced me to take money lol. She knew nothing about cakes but still saw my services as valuable. THAT'S a good friend. People who specialize in cake are so underappreciated it's insane. I've certainly worked with my fair share of bridezillas over the years.
Exactly! Being able to hire a friend to make your cake can be great because one: you may be able to get a discount or make it free in exchange for it being the gift (If free I recommend getting that friend something in return) and two: you know for a fact the you will get a high quality cake. No matter how much research you do, in the end you are still taking a chance when you purchase a good or service.
I had a three tier nightmare before Christmas cake in two diff flavors with mousse in between layers and paid $460 😂 my dad refused to let anyone else carry it bc in his words "I paid for this! So if I drop it, I can't get mad at any of you" 😂 I love my dad
One of my best friends is getting married this month ☺ I asked her to link me to her gift registry or to tell me what she wanted/needed 🎁 She told me that my presence, at her wedding, was the only gift she needs 🥺❤ I'm flabbergasted by how OP's "friend" treated her 😮 A friendship ruined by money and greed 🤦🏻♀️ I think OP should drop her 🙄 That friendship seems phoney AF🤥
@@lasagnewolf still do a registry. Many of your guests will want to buy you a gift even if you don't feel it's necessary. You sound like a good person and you shouldn't deny yourself the joys of receiving gifts just because you don't want to stress people out. You deserve to be pampered just as much as the next person - you can say that gifts aren't necessary but registries are helpful for those who will still want to get you something. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!🤍
I'm not married. I'm as single as a solo. But if I were to get married and someone offered me a $800 wedding cake as a wedding gift, I would be over the moon that someone not only spent so much MONEY to create a wedding cake for me and spouse, they also spent a extortionate amount of TIME to create the cake. Sometimes, homemade presents are the best presents you can be bestowed by those who are closest to you. This bridezilla demanding another gift as "the wedding cake doesn't count as a gift" when she said "awwww, that's great gift" is entitled and is trying to fleece their friend for more. I would drop this friend faster than a mic drop!
The only response to a gift is, thank you. Period. I’ve gotten awful gifts and they may be in a closet somewhere, but I say thank you. Cakes are an incredible gift. I had to stop making them because my wrist was giving me a hard time, I would have to ice it in between doing flowers. They are a ton of work and a true labor of love.
Yes I've developed carpal tunnel from cake decorating. My hand will essentially sieze up at times (it doesn't help that I'm also a violinist). I've had to quit the industry and slowed down a lot on making orders from home because the work does take a huge toll on the body, as fun and fulfilling as it is.
I’ve never hear of a bride being so obviously greedy and ungrateful. The audacity to ask her friend who is preparing a very extravagant wedding cake, for an additional wedding gift is beyond the pale. At this point I would be hard pressed to even do the wedding cake.
I'd have changed the cake to a sheet cake. If asked why she didn't make the cake the bride wanted, she could've told people that the bride couldn't afford anything else, and had rejected the four-flavored tier cake worth $700. She wanted a free cake. That's what she got.
I just don't understand the expectation of gifts. We had 125 people at our wedding. Almost all had to travel for our wedding. We received about 30 gifts. I was super appreciative of the gifts we received but was just as happy that they people we love took time out of their busy lives to celebrate with us. You should never expect anything.
That seems about right for a gift to guest ratio. Couples and families aren't going to give one gift per person, it's one per household. And maybe some friends decided to chip in together for a more expensive gift.
When my wealthy friends married in NYC, they gave me a dress to wear to the evening dinner & dance. It was at very expensive hotel and couldn’t afford to buy an appropriate outfit. We’ve fallen out of touch but the memory of their generosity is still a gift.
I think it made more sense when couples almost never cohabitated before marriage, especially when a lot of them didn’t even live outside the family home before marriage. It was about setting them up for their new life in a new home together. With that being said…. the weddings themselves weren’t as extravagant back then. Nowadays, wedding gifts make a lot less sense. I typically opt for something handmade or sentimental, or a small contribution the a honeymoon fund if they have one.
I was the maid of honor at a friend of mines wedding ages ago! My gift to her & her husband was making the centerpieces with her & I bought their wedding cake. They absolutely loved it & so incredibly grateful & happy. The first story really had me flabbergasted.
i married young (19). Both my maid of honor and myself were still in college….i didn’t even expect anything. But her doing my hair and taking photos from the disposable cameras that were at every table, getting them developed and making me a beautiful memory book was the most memorable, heartfelt gift i could have gotten! when it comes from the heart it is PRICELESS! It BAFFLES me that some people don’t feel this way….simply horrible! i am divorced now but that memory book still means the world to me because it came from her❤
I think the husband has a lot of nerve. Obviously, he has no knowledge of the ingredients, design, and labor that’s involved in making a professional wedding cake. His response should have been to tell his wife that asking for a gift in addition to the wedding cake is asking for too much.
I'm not lying when I tell you that one of my most treasured gifts, is a home made crochet blanket I received from my sister in law for my 30th birthday. The time it must have taken her to do. I was almost in tears. I love it and use it every night on the couch when watching TV.
I’m a self taught baker and I’ve made a total of two wedding cakes for free and that process took me literal days for each cake, and the cakes were all the same flavor, not 4 different cakes. I’m fortunate to have wonderful people in my life who are incredibly appreciative and understanding of how much work a wedding cake is. This bride truly can suck an egg. I’ll even provide the egg 😃🥚
My Aunt made our cake for our wedding & I was so grateful. I knew it was her gift to us & never would have thought to expect another gift on top of that. That bridezilla & all the people that were on her side need to get a reality check and be grateful for what is offered to them.
4 tiered wedding cake with multiple flavors and fondant flowers would easily be over $1000 at the last bakery I worked at. Fondant flowers take a lot of time
@@martina21953 yeah, it's very similar to play dough or clay, uses a lot of the same techniques. I'm not sure how long clay takes but fondant has to sit for 8-12 hours so it's stiff enough to put on the cake without collapsing.
I own a cake shop and do lots of wedding cakes. A wedding cake is a generous wedding gift! There is so much labor and love that is going into a cake and people constantly completely underestimate what the ingredients cost before you even crack an egg or heat the oven. Every additional flavor/recipe you prepare takes additional time, more dishes to wash, more ingredients left over etc. That bride is so entitled.
There's also the cost of the gas or electricity to heat the oven, and that needs to be factored into the cost of the cake, as to how much it cost for everything to make the cake.
17:49 My wedding was 49 years ago, my dress cost 100.00, my parents paid for the church and held the reception at their house, my sister-in-law gifted us a wedding cake. Was an amazing wedding. My in-laws paid for our bridal room at a hotel. Couldn't ask for anything more.
My wedding was at town hall, my mom gifted me flowers and a cake, and my mother in law held the reception at her house. I would not change that day for the world.
I've said that if I'm ever blessed enough to be married, I want a courthouse wedding and a big ol' cookout in my backyard, and maybe a week at the beach for a honeymoon. Just want people to have fun and remember a good time!
Needlework is one of my favorite hobbies. There are some people who have earned themselves multiple gifts of my stitching over the years. Those are the people who are appreciative of the time, love, and materials I put into it. When my youngest niece and nephew were born, I stitched each of them a piece for their nurseries. They are now 22 and 26 and still have those pieces hanging on their walls. My nephew was 15 when my sister moved her family to Washington state. The first thing he wanted done in his new room was to have the toy shoppe piece I made him hung up as soon as possible. Knowing that, it warms my heart.
@17:12: Literally, this shit is why I have so much disdain for the wedding industry. If people have the means to pay for it and it'll make them happy, okay, I don't want to talk shit about the thing the brings them joy, BUT... personally, I am repulsed by the whole thing. Rings, dresses, venues, all of it is SO over-priced. I am a simple man, and personally, if I'm gonna drop that much money, I'd rather just use it on the honeymoon so we can go somewhere fun and do something cool and interesting. Just seems like a way better use of the funds, imo.
30k would be the best honeymoon! You could literally travel for months on that!! Give me a cheap ceremony any day! All the lavish bullshit just to throw a party that I can't fully enjoy. Nahh. 6 month world cruise all inclusive 🤌🏻
I agree beside a whole trip celebrating each other is better than just one day besides you could always have a small family dinner with those you love, so they can join in on the celebration.
That’s why some people elope or go to a justice of the peace etc. It’s not being cheap. The type of wedding a couple decides to have is entirely up to them.
I 100% agree. I come from a family with little to no money. When my husband and I went to get married, I told him I wanted to elope to Vegas because I didn’t have a lot of family left and couldn’t pay for a large wedding. His family had a lot more money than mine and his mother was adamant against us eloping so she paid for our entire wedding. For that I am truly grateful but I would never go broke over a one-day celebration. That isn’t what marriage is about and that expensive wedding isn’t going to keep you together.
I'm so tired of people saying that you should give a wedding gift that covers your plate. You did not have a say in planning the wedding. What the couple decides to spend on their wedding should not determine what you feel obligated to give them. Give a gift that is within your budget and reflective of your relationship with the couple. A wedding is a celebration, not an exchange of value. My husband and I were happy to celebrate with our friends and family regardless of if they gave us any gift at all. Especially those who traveled many miles to be with us.
Well stated! It used to be that weddings were put on by hosts who paid for their guests' meals. In return, guests were gracious celebrants and gifts were optional. If you expect your guests to pay for their plates, you're running a restaurant, not hosting a wedding.
Then don’t go to weddings. If you’re not willing to pay to cover your plate, then don’t go! It is an insult to give anything but money! Americans are cheap when it comes to gifts for weddings and I say that because I’m an American and I married somebody from Europe. weddings are 100% money and giving a low amount is an insult. It’s the same in Asia.
Friend of mine made bridal bouquets as a gift! So very grateful. Also because we were very broke, friends bought food in lieu of gifts. We had an awesome party. Many people came and ate till their hearts content. Presents were a great surprise but not expected. (1984 and we both belonged to 12 step programs)
We were gifted a 988.00 cake for our vow renewal. I was and am still greatful plus I told them a gift is not necessary yet they still gave us a 200.00 check. I ended up using it to get her supplies back as a thank you. Our venue was free thanks to our pastor so I spent a total of 300.00 for our vow renewal
I have been a cake designer/decorator for over 30 years. You have no idea what goes into making a cake…from hours of pattern research, equipment costs, ingredient costs, the time it takes to bake and decorate, and I can tell you that handmade fondant flowers and decorations are painstaking to do. This amazing friend of the bride offered to not only give her a free wedding cake, but would also be doing all of this work WHILE PREGNANT. At this point, instead of a cake as a gift, she should probably just figure out how many eggs she would have used in the cake making process and give those to Mary The Bridezilla to suck.🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚
Not me knitting 5 blankets for 5 wedding gifts in the span of a year. The 4 that have been given to their couples have been appreciated because they're smart enough to know that this stuff takes TIME and SKILL to make. And that no store will ever have a blanket that's the same as the ones they'll get from someone who made it. Currently knitting wedding blanket #5 right now. And Charlotte, since I knit so much while watching your videos, I'd even make one for your wedding. Thanks for making me (and all your viewers) laugh. (And kudos to your staff who help you find content and edit videos, I appreciate all of y'all so much.)
I made a 3 layer wedding cake (3-layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting) as a gift for a friend and work colleague who had recently lost her mother to breast cancer. I bought all the ingredients, and also a Kitchen Aid 5qt mixer to facilitate the process; I had inherited my FIL’s wedding cake pans, so those were in hand. I also provided the cake riser for the display., and the decorations for the cake. It was a huge endeavor, and my friend was nothing but grateful. It was a beautiful day, and I have never been sorry.
My wedding was around $2000 including my outfit, the venue and entertainment. It was lovely. My cousin does photography as a hobby and that was their wedding gift to us.
When I got married my husbands aunt made our cake as her gift to us. It was a gorgeous three tier huge cake! We loved it. A family friend was our DJ which was also his gift to us. A family friend was our minister. And we also gave him some money for officiating.
I had a similar thing. I have so many talented friends in so many areas and I asked them to gift their services to me, if they felt comfortable. My MIL catered and I did not expect anything additional from her. My god mother made my dress, my friend did my makeup, one of my friends covered the DJ. I was filled with so much gratitude for this. I just don't understand why the bride couldn't see how massive of a gift this was.
My stepfather's sisters made me a wedding cake; they couldn't come; and I'd never met them in person, just spoke on the phone. I think back now, and wondered how on earth they safely shipped it to me. Not even one tiny piece dislodged. I do hope I thanked them profusely enough, because I was totally blown away by how beautiful it was (I didn't know how skilled they were when I accepted their offer). Seriously, I was very grateful. So much work!!
My wedding was $5,000 it really helped that i had it at my mil house, she has a large property. We did the decorations ourselves, bought flowers off amazon and hobby lobby, paid for hotel stays for our bridal party, paid for suits off Amazon, same with bridesmaid dresses. Got a food truck and a bounce house. Guests brought alcohol and my fil just played music off his surround sound system. We did cut a lot of corners, but it was still beautiful and absolutely perfect. We got fabric online too and decorated everything ourselves. It was beautiful and perfect!
Omg that sounds like what I’m trying to do! 😂 I’m so glad it went well! Do you have any tips? Our wedding isn’t until next September but I feel like I’m still so stuck lol
If your family friend wasn't gonna be a good Nona about making a cake for free, friend shouldn't have accepted any free gifts attached. If she wanted to be paid for it, she shouldn't have offered to make it in the first place for free and should've been strait up that it is a business transaction and not a gifted cake. If you're plate is too full with your children and your day job then don't offer! Just do what you're capable of and just buy something off the registry. Don't try to get more spotlight to get more praise and then play a victim when you guys have a miscommunication about what is appropriate for social occasions.
7:40 I need to thank you for the egg joke 😂😂😂 My daughter loves egg jokes and it was great to be able to share one that she hadn’t heard before. Her jokes are along the line of, if someone says a word that could sound like egg, she jumps in with her pun. If we are having a conversation and I might say “exactly!” To which she adds in, “don’t you mean eggsactly?” and laughs hysterically. She has autism among too many other diagnoses, and I love her more than she will ever know. Thanks for giving us an extra giggle today 😊😊😊
My friend did macaron and specialized logo in them, plus packed them all in clear boxes with decorations AND delivered it to my venue and she told me afterwards that it was a wedding gift for us. It was for 180 guests!! I was SO touched by this! The thoughtfulness in the gift ❤. Mary is def an ungrateful bridezilla
A gift registry came into being primarily to avoid gift duplications, ie 3 espresso machines and 6 toasters. They were never designed to pay for your " chicken or steak" and I guarantee the gifts 20 years down line most remembered and cherished will be the handmade or personalized items.
A wedding cake takes years of experience to produce an excellent quality cake. Not only the ingredients, experience but no one EVER is prepared to realise the TIME it takes. What a beetch!
Luckily, being an artist means I can draw art as gifts for family and friends. For Christmas one year, I drew my SIL a portrait of her recently deceased Akira dog, Shiloh. A beautiful, sweet, brindle coated baby girl. 14 years but she had arthritis and was going blind, as a result a bit defensive. I drew that sweet dog and my SIL loved it, still has it in her room years later. People always respect the art I make as they know it takes time and each is personalized for everyone.
*_Just wait, you haven't met the ungrateful ones yet. I have been working as an artist / designer for 36 years now and trust me, old classmates, work buddies, old neighbours etc etc etc WILL contact you suddenly after 20 + years of silence as fast as you get established and known. And by some strange coincidence they always need a little "help" with some little project after they asked me how I am doing. And then they expect me to work for free on their "little" projects like outdoor murals, big walls, hallways etc etc and they also think that my "help" should include the cost of all materials.._*
I agree with OP. I have work for a Major grocery store chain where I live as a cake Decorator. I have done sever grooms cake ( a thing were I live) and fla few wedding cakes as gift form not only me but my mother also. The Receivers were very happy as this ad their wedding gift.
I love whenever Mike sticks his head in for an impromptu visit. It's always funny, short & sweet yet never feels intrusive. You two complement each other so well! Goals.
When you throw a wedding... It is in good taste to not expect a gift from your guest. One should simply be happy that her guest was there to share her joyous occasion. 😊
Gifting a service you provide instead of just buying something is so much more personal as well as a huge money saver. At my wedding, the cake, photography, and ceremony location were all gifts and meant so much more to me than flatware.
Exactly! Having someone spend the time, not to mention buy the ingredients/materials, is such a great show of care and love. I love it when people make me things.
My best friend made me resin placements and coasters out of my wedding flowers and it is one of my most prized possessions. I live next to the bush and it's one of the first things to grab in an event of a bushfire
Mike coming in at the Egg comment and him wrenching at the pretend rotten egg and Charlotte laughing at it was the funniest shit Ive seen in a long time. Thank you both for making my day 😂❤
I'm the same way: I like it when people put effort in. I like surprises, which is not always about money. Surprises are hard, though, so I don't expect one every time. I loved my handmade quilt with bits of tee shirts from alway back to my childhood all the way through to early 20s. The only thing I still have from when I got married.
The friend is being so generous and loving to make the cake for free !!!! That’s such a personal wonderful money saving gift !!! Some of my friends did not have the money and their gift was the plane ticket to come be present at my wedding. I was thrilled. The gift was their presents. Other friends provided favors. I was thrilled with just having you and your spouse. I’m throwing a party for people I think people that they are not required to give a gift.
Homemade gifts are the best. Because someone put in SO MUCH time and effort into that. I'm currently working on a project for my brothers fiance. I don't do that for anyone unless they are important
I usually offer to make the wedding cake (I used the make them as a business). Depending on my relationship with the couple and the complexity of the design determines whether I charge for materials. They know it’s my wedding gift and they’ve all been thrilled
That cake is an extreme tier item. Easy a thousand dallor with tax. 4 different flavor tiers, with flavored cream, and plus hand made decorations. The $700 would be a nice family/friend discounted price (with the discount being the gift).
That cake could easily come out to 1k. Especially considering it’s going to be delivered. 4 tiers with different flavors is a lot and decorating 4 tiers is very time consuming especially for a wedding where details are noticed. Then consider storage, clean up, use of supplies/utilities, packaging, etc, that’s a huge gift. I usually gift 1 tier cakes for birthdays and that usually takes me a week to prepare between grocery shopping, prep, baking/decorating, and clean up. A lot of people give $100 gifts…the cake is worth much more than that. Especially considering she likely spent at least $100 on ingredients, decorations, and packaging.
I knitted a tea cosy for a friend/ work colleague's wedding (she mentioned they use a teapot and was looking for a good tea cosy), it was in the colour scheme she was having with the date of the wedding knitted in to the design and a crochet daisy on the top (her bouquet was wild flowers) my parents gave them a painting my dad had done. while neither gift cost anything to do they loved and really appreciated them.
I made my friend an entire baby room with an embroidery cushion and baby blanket and even an amigurami plushie, and she loved it so much she used it again for her second daughter. I would have cried if they reacted like this. It took me hours to make, and I put so much love into it.
My wedding cake was done by a friend as a favour and only asked for £200 towards the costs, gave me lessons for free and iced my mum's cake for free as well. It was amazing. There was a castle on the cake, painted realistically by her artist friend for free too. We loved it. She was amazing at the wedding and wedding help too! A lovely neighbour too.
My mom’s best friend made our cake for our wedding as our gift I was completely excited and happy. She even remade a small one for our one year anniversary for only cost of ingredients. She was so amazing
When we got married, instead of material or monetary gifts, a few of our friends helped us make food for the reception, one paid for the dj, and another paid for our cake as their gifts to us. They knew we couldn’t afford much. We got married at the courthouse, and had our reception the next night in the reception room at a local bar. We diy’d our decorations. And when the reception was over we sent the dj home with a lot of leftovers from the reception. My dress was a prom dress that honestly looked like a wedding dress from Sears, my shoes were from Payless, and my husband wore dress pants, a button down, and a sweater. My wedding jewelry was a Swarovski necklace, earrings, and bracelet that my grandma had gotten me for my junior homecoming. We were so grateful that they did this for us. Weddings are expensive even when you cut back on a lot of stuff. That bride is super entitled and selfish.
These bridezilla videos just remind me that I was literally the chillest bride ever which is surprising because I’m kinda his maintenance and love things to be a perfect as they can be. I told my flower lady to do whatever she wanted, my cake was supposed to have flowers all over it but when it came time to cut it, it was plain, the food was just OK, I let my bridesmaids wear basically whatever they wanted, etc. at the end of the day, none of that matters. All that matters is that I was with the love of my life🥰
My mother made my dress and the bridesmaids dresses. We had the wedding in my parents beautiful backyard filled with my mom’s flowers that she grew. My mom also made all the food and made an incredible three layer cake. I will always be proud and grateful of her for all that she did. I am almost in tears how wonderful it was because almost 40 years later and my mother is 98 so we still talk about what an amazing day in our lives it was. I feel personally that being grateful is the key to being happy!
@dennisbentson823 Omg stop it 😢😢 that's beautiful! What an absolute angelic human your mom is💕💕💕💕💕 Please tell her that internet strangers think she is incredible!!!!!!! You should tape yourselves having a conversation about it, and the things she ran into while getting everything together. 🥰
Don’t let anyone tell you it’s impossible to have a beautiful wedding without spending TONS of money! My husband and I paid for our wedding mostly out of pocket, and even though it was under $20,000, it was still beautiful. We got a little venue in a historic building, which held a lot of history for us because it is where we met and it’s one of our favorite date spots. My dress was under $1000, the venue and catering around $7000, cake was under $1000 and venders were about $1000 each (we only got venders we really needed, like 1 photographer, 1 DJ, and a local florist). A lot of the decorations I handmade myself, and some of my friends pitched in as well. Our bachelor and bachelorette parties were also budget friendly and still tons of fun. Sure, there were things here and there that would have been cool to add onto the wedding, but at the end of the day we had everything we needed and it was the best day of our lives. It’s all about the love, not about the spectacle. If we had less money we would have had a backyard wedding and that still would have been wonderful. ❤
My sister and I gifted each other the wedding cake for each other's weddings. We went together for both our weddings it was a great bonding thing for us both.
Duuuuude! I'm watching this while sitting on my back porch and just as she was doing her intro, a wild turkey walked out from behind a tree and started gobbling 😂😂😂😂 The timing was hilarious AF! 😂😂😂
I’m a baker by trade, my sister, when she was getting married wanted to keep costs down for her wedding. She asked me to do cupcakes for the wedding as her wedding present, SHE specified that she wanted it to be the gift because it would be custom and save her and her husband a lot on the wedding.
You and Mike are so perfectly in tune with each other! I'm glad you found each other and are getting together! Keep making joint videos cause I love to watch your interactions!!!!!
My mum used to make wedding cakes professionally but also for friends and family. And although the latter were definitely done for “mates rates”, a 4 tier cake was still a few hundred and that must be about 20+ years ago (she’s retired now). Whatever the situation with the bride and her budget, she should at least have some understanding of typical prices. That’s one hell of a gift. That Shia LaBeouf edit creased me 😂
I crocheted a beautiful baby blanket for a friends baby shower.
Hope the grand baby falls in love with that blanket and carries it everywhere including Grandma’s house. 😂
Ewwww her mom is a witch 😂😂
As a wedding gift for my niece I scrapbooked her wedding - I was really into that at the time. It took around 100 hours and was gorgeous. She married someone from another country and was called in by emigration to prove they were really married. She took her scrapbook. Everyone in the office stopped working to look at it. They all said it was obviously a real wedding. Best gift I’ve ever given ❤😅❤
Oh my god I would LOVE to get a wedding gift like that! The time, effort and thought that went into it.. Priceless!
As someone with a best friend from Canada, this is incredible!! ❤
a wedding scrapbook sounds like a nice gift
My cousins first marriage she was used and he got to Canada. He left her 1 month later saying he was going back. No he just went to Toronto. Long story there. But years later she met the one! Married and he moved to Canada. They have issues and are working together, love each other no doubt about that and they are amazing together. They did everything immigration asked. But I heard her cry many night worrying about the immigration steps.
That’s the plot of an episode of unbreakable kimmy schmidt 😅
One of the BEST gifts we got at our wedding was a folding card table. It was from an older couple from our church and they said they had recieved one just like it at their wedding 40+ years prior. They used to play cards, do puzzles, and play games as a family at the card table. It was such a place of togetherness and happy memories for them, they wanted to give that to us too. It was probably only $30 -50, but it has been well used by us and when I pull it out I think of Ruth and Arnold playing crib together. They aren't alive any more but I treasure this table.
It's not the cost that counts
What a beautiful gift to give
Oh wow, my parents got a folding card table as a wedding gift too. We use it every birthday and Christmas for appetizers and desserts. If there were enough guests we’d make it the “kids’ table” while the grownups got the big table.
It's the love
I'm tearing up here 😭😭😭 this is so cute
Thoughtful gifts that come with a story are way better than something expensive!
"You may lose your friendship" Who would want to keep a friend like that?
Exactly!!! Bye Felicia!!
Yes
I'd be interested to know why her husband already didn't like her. It might be that he's noticed her entitlement before
amennnnnnnnn
Mike popping up for the "suck an egg" part is unexpected and HILARIOUS 🤣🤣🤣
We must suck an egg in a future episode. Hard boiled or raw?!
@@CharlotteDobre Can I just suck on some scrambled egg?

My hair stylist/ friend did my hair as my wedding gift. I paid her to do my maid of honors hair. Any one that is willing to comp an actual service just for a seat at your special day is a real one! How you gunna say a whole a$$ cake isn't a gift? I literally asked for just a cake for my birthday. A Cake is THE GIFT!!
That's a whole cake! A whole event in the reception!!!!!
Exactly, all I ever ask for my birthday from my husband is a cake. Its a gift. In fact the definition of a gift is "a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present."
Yeah this bride has lost her mind over this wedding
OP is definitely not the ahole
To me, the friends who are willing to do or make something are the real ride or die type. They put real time and effort in for you.
The world needs more people like you 💜💜💜
there's also the added benefit of pre-owned baby clothes being through dozens of washes and therefore safer and softer for the baby :)
This is so sweet. Babies grow so fast that the original owners of those clothes probably didn’t have them long anyway, better for someone else to get use out of them. And your friend was probably able to pick up a lot more for the money she had to spend. I wish everyone thought like you!
Wow more for the $$$. The clothes usually aren't even worn 1/2 the time! Awesome gift but better you accepted the lovely gift with grace ❤.
I just want to say the editor throwing in Vader "I am altering the deal" was spot the fuck on. XD
Absolutely 😂
I commented about the editor as well! They were killin' it this video. 😂
The sound design too!!!
And the added line “pray I don’t alter it any further” 😂😂😂
Charlotte’s editor is amazing. The “drop-ins” are always great.
It was full of love and respect for all
As it should be ❤️❤️❤️🫶🫶🫶
That sounds perfect!
YESS!!!
Yes and amen! That was too adorable!!
Personally my favourite part of this video 🤣
Mike is such a keeper lol
A newly aquired friend made my wedding cake as her gift. One layer was vanilla and the other layer was lemon and I fell in love with the lemon layer. I refused to share any of it with anyone, it was that good. Hubby got one slice and that was it. Luckily the vanilla layer was the larger cake so I shared that with my wedding guests, but, I went and personally boxed up the lemon cake and took it out to my car to ensure it was not touched by anyone LOL.
It didn't melt?
Lemon cake is yummy!
Would have done the same. 😂🍋🍰
You Cake Hoarder, you!😅😊😂
A friend making the wedding cake is so special. Like how can you take that for granted.
The bride never was a friend. A friend doesn't act that way. They don't exploit you🎉
She doesn't lose nothing, she just wins the truth 🎉🎉
You'd be surprised. I'm very crafty -- multiple hobbies -- and over the years, I've weeded out the people who think that my skills exist to serve them. But there are ALWAYS people who just see you as a resource to exploit!
How can you take that for granted?
Jeff Goldblum: Life, uh, finds a way.
0:33 Wedding Cakes are very expensive! That would be a generous Wedding gift.
Seriously! We got a tiny 1 tier for just us, and then cupcakes for everyone else. And that was still $400.
I had a three tier nightmare before Christmas cake in two diff flavors with mousse in between layers and paid $460 😂 my dad refused to let anyone else carry it bc in his words "I paid for this! So if I drop it, I can't get mad at any of you" 😂 I love my dad
I make multi level, multi flavor cheesecakes. It takes time, talent and TIME.
@@FizzledDreams11i mean its fair XD
Agree. When I got married -$350 wedding cake. 3 tier
One of my best friends is getting married this month ☺ I asked her to link me to her gift registry or to tell me what she wanted/needed 🎁 She told me that my presence, at her wedding, was the only gift she needs 🥺❤
I'm flabbergasted by how OP's "friend" treated her 😮 A friendship ruined by money and greed 🤦🏻♀️ I think OP should drop her 🙄 That friendship seems phoney AF🤥
I'm thinking about just not doing a wedding registry because I just want my friends and family to show up, that to me is my gift.
Single as a solo... Lies they come in packs!!!
I agree 💯
I would refuse a free wedding cake because that is too hard a job to do for free. If they refused to accept full price I would at least give them 300.
You can put shit on a popsicle stick, bake it & when you give it to me, I will say "yum!" & ask for the
recipe.
Your an amazing person
I’ve never hear of a bride being so obviously greedy and ungrateful. The audacity to ask her friend who is preparing a very extravagant wedding cake, for an additional wedding gift is beyond the pale. At this point I would be hard pressed to even do the wedding cake.
I'd have changed the cake to a sheet cake. If asked why she didn't make the cake the bride wanted, she could've told people that the bride couldn't afford anything else, and had rejected the four-flavored tier cake worth $700. She wanted a free cake. That's what she got.
Diabolical. 🏆
👏 👏 👏
Awesome idea. 😂😂
👏👏👏
From a Duncan Hines mix and frosting.
Gifts are supposed to be optional!
That seems about right for a gift to guest ratio. Couples and families aren't going to give one gift per person, it's one per household. And maybe some friends decided to chip in together for a more expensive gift.
Exactly!!
It BAFFLES me that some people don’t feel this way….simply horrible! i am divorced now but that memory book still means the world to me because it came from her❤
Mike acting out what sucking an egg looks like was actually a very informative visual 😂😆😆 THANKS MIKE!
We love Mike😊
I'm sure we will see that again.
I'm shocked that the invisible egg didn't break in his mouth.....lol
Charlotte and Mike are my favorite couple ❤.
The husband saying they're both being petty. You get the energy you give bestie, and you gave petty, so you got petty back.😂
I think the husband has a lot of nerve.
I’ll even provide the egg 😃🥚
... an Ostrich egg ?
I LOVE that you provided an egg. That is so... So... what's another word for stupendous...

Fondant flowers take a lot of time
I used to make really nice flowers out of Play dough. Is it similar to Fondant?
I keep replaying the "suck an egg" part with Mike pretending to retch, and Charlotte loosing it! 😂
Same. Let's work on the marriage, and keep the wedding at a reasonable price point
My wedding was at town hall, my mom gifted me flowers and a cake, and my mother in law held the reception at her house. I would not change that day for the world.
Same with my first but my 2nd was at a renaissance faire in costume in the middle of a garden.
In my opinion a small wedding is more likely to last it’s not about the glitz and the glamour it’s about the2 people getting married
Thank you Mike for not only showing us what 'sucking on an egg' looks like, but also giving options on what kind of egg it is and how it is prepared.
😂
I laughed so loud at that, I can only hope I didn't wake up my poor husband. lmfao
Value?? These kinds of brides have no value. They are worthless
I agree. It's the decision of the couple how expensive to go, and not everyone can afford to cover their plate, and they shouldn't HAVE to
Then don’t go to weddings.
🎉
OMG… Seeing Ryan saying “super easy, barely an inconvenience” was the highlight for me! I love Pitch Meetings. LOL
@@MMathis sadly he passed several years ago. But we had many joyful memories.
😂 Mike entering for the "suck an egg" bit was so good. You guys are made for each other.❤
Not me knitting 5 blankets for 5 wedding gifts in the span of a year.
I'm making a wedding quilt right now... but I know the bride and groom appreciate it. They chose the pattern and colours.
Really thoughtful and sweet of you
Omg I hope Charlotte replies to this and gets her blanket
Can I just say that Mike & Charlotte are the PERFECT COUPLE!!! They compliment each other so well !! LOVE THEM !!!! ❤❤
I love when Charlotte gobbles at us 😭❤️😂 0:11
FR 😭
😂💯🎯🤷🏻♀️😆
Me too! Weirdly makes my day 🤣❤️
😂me too!!!
No matter how many times she does it I die laughing every time 😂
I made a 3 layer wedding cake (3-layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting) as a gift for a friend and work colleague who had recently lost her mother to breast cancer.
A DJ that knows the couple is an instant plus. Get the party going.
That sounds perfect! I hope you and your sweetie are happy for a long time.
Omg that sounds like what I’m trying to do! 😂 I’m so glad it went well! Do you have any tips? Our wedding isn’t until next September but I feel like I’m still so stuck lol
I got to the suck an egg part - y'all are made for each other; I was dying laughing! Congrats to that lady for sticking up for herself. Good lord!
8:00 that was adorable-
I love the dynamic 😂
I always thought it was low key sexual but safe to say in public. Egg whites look like what? 💦 👀
Exactly.
I needed this in my life 🤣
If your family friend wasn't gonna be a good Nona about making a cake for free, friend shouldn't have accepted any free gifts attached.
Thanks for giving us an extra giggle today 😊😊😊
..."egg-stra". ;)
Thats Sp'egg'tacular😁 my son is autistic and he has a special sense of humour too😊
@@lyswatkins9321haha came to the replies to say this, glad it's not just me! 😋
My dad always said go suck an egg in the 90s and you can find egg lollipop / suckers to hand out in response
3:52 Ryan is taking over all the channels!
@carebear623 OMG what a sweet beautiful friend 😍🥰
I can't imagine the actual nerve it would take to contact someone asking why they weren't giving you something. Forget the whole cake part.
EXACTLY 💯
For real! Like who the hell asks someone about a gift?
Agreed
Right!?
Unique & handmade gifts are always appreciated ... unless you're like Evil Mary.
@@NickanM I'm not trying to make it as an artist for that reason. My gifts are actually gifts and not just "part of a job"
I audibly chuckled at the pitch meeting clip “super easy… barely an inconvenience “. I love that channel
Good Morning Petty Potatoes! ❤
The egg puns! Lol Hi Mike!
Hey Charlotte, can we get the update on the Ice Swan Bridezilla?
We say "Hello Petty Potatoes". Repeat after me; Hello Petty Potatoes
Good morning bestie!❤
You made it a fun morning, thank you.😅
Morning!
Goooooood morning ❤
My best friend made me resin placements and coasters out of my wedding flowers and it is one of my most prized possessions. I live next to the bush and it's one of the first things to grab in an event of a bushfire
Mike coming in at the Egg comment and him wrenching at the pretend rotten egg and Charlotte laughing at it was the funniest shit Ive seen in a long time. Thank you both for making my day 😂❤
A gift of a cake is amazing. The bride showed her true self.
I'm gonna assume it was just an auto correct mistake, but "their gift was their presents" has me dying 😂😂😂
Homemade gifts are the best. Because someone put in SO MUCH time and effort into that. I'm currently working on a project for my brothers fiance. I don't do that for anyone unless they are important
Mike literally coming in only to make gagging noises and then leave has me ROLLING 😂😂😂
🤣
Same🤣
I usually offer to make the wedding cake (I used the make them as a business).
Our wedding gift for a good friend was money to help buy her cake. She was very pleased and we felt good knowing it was appreciated.
The Judge Charlotte "gobble" keeps getting more unhinged and I'm here for it. 🦃
I also love the ‘gobble’ 😁
That's my favourite 😂
Me too 😂
My mom’s best friend made our cake for our wedding as our gift I was completely excited and happy. She even remade a small one for our one year anniversary for only cost of ingredients. She was so amazing
Watching Charlotte’s videos while I dye my hair is such a vibe
I love how you talk about sucking an egg and Mike just magically appears 😂
The violent gag was just 🤌
When we got married, instead of material or monetary gifts, a few of our friends helped us make food for the reception, one paid for the dj, and another paid for our cake as their gifts to us.
Love mike. You guys are truly perfect for each other. Goofy and fun.
All that matters is that I was with the love of my life🥰
5:43 We did the research
"No cake is worth $700"! She's right! It's worth A HELLUVA LOT MORE!
@dennisbentson823 Omg stop it 😢😢 that's beautiful!
What an absolute angelic human your mom is💕💕💕💕💕
Please tell her that internet strangers think she is incredible!!!!!!!
My friends and coworkers gifted their talent to my wedding/reception. Cake, meal, photography, DJ, everything! Those were my most memorable gifts 🥰
The intros of judge Charlotte are my absolute favorite! 😂
Sameeeeeee
Duuuuude!
I'm watching this while sitting on my back porch and just as she was doing her intro, a wild turkey walked out from behind a tree and started gobbling 😂😂😂😂
The timing was hilarious AF!
I was just thinking this. Mike matches her energy very well ❤️❤️❤️
That cake is a hellova gift!
That Shia LaBeouf edit creased me 😂
7:49 "how big is the egg?" I love that that's his first thought 😆😆
Front row for the honorable Judge Charlotte 👩⚖️🎉
Ugg 😂😂😂 I was here at 1min but needed too reload
Cause my audio was messing up 😂😂
A cake isn't just expensive, it's also art. I wished ppl would appreciate that more
When Mike popped in, re: the egg pun, & Then The Shia Le Bouf clip almost looked like Mike for a quick sec too! 🥚 😂😂
Yes!! I was about to comment "am I crazy or does Mike look like Shia Labeouf?" Lol
