The trailer should be like the announcement trailer for Brawl. It starts with Shovel Knight, Shantae, Quote, and Meat Boy in their 8-bit appearances, then they transform into high definition models (or sprites), and the battle begins!

i actually made my own smash moveset for jacket revolving around each move using a different weapon, that weapon breaking after a successful hit with it, and the move turning into an unarmed attack for several seconds until you gain the weapon back, making you adapt to what weapons you still have available, just as hotline miami's gameplay is very centered on quickly adapting to what resources you have at your disposal
43:50 Just a quick correction here - Shantae was never a Nintendo character. She’s always been created and owned by Wayforward, even back on the GBC. The confusion of if she’s indie or not comes with some people thinking she was a CAPCOM character... but they only PUBLISHED the first Shantae game, they had no hand in creating or funding it, hence why the game was released so late in the GBC’s lifecycle - the game was finished, but Wayforward had a hard time finding someone who would publish a GBC game with an expensive 32 megabit battery. Long story short, Shantae is 100% indie! Beyond that, this is an absolutely awesome video as usual. I really think a massive indie crossover of this caliber would be incredible to see - the characters, the movesets, the MUSIC! It makes me want to get rich just to fund it.
And also, indivisible is apparently owned by 505 games and not lab zero games, so his fillia logic actually would have worked on ajna as well, but it would seem that 505 games is somewhat distancing itself from the game, so maybe could be a wrinkle, so.....
Finally someone who acknowledges Guacamelee, everyone talks about Undertale, Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight and so on as their favorites when it comes to indie games. But Guacamelee is my personal favorite and I'm glad to find someone who also appreciates it.

@@vergilsonofsparda2350 People who say that Madeline wouldn't fit into a platform fighter and that she is not a fighter and stuff are honestly just straight up not doing their research right. it takes just like 3-4 google searches if you don't know what to look for that is, to find out that Madeline is extremely skilled at archery (as seen on Theos Instagram) and actually already has a semi fighting game appearance in towerfall, combine her archery with her abilities to dash and maybe throw in some of celestes stage gimmicks like the bubbles or seekers (she by far wouldn't be the first character on a smash roster who utilizes stage and world gimmicks from their game in their moveset) give her a wall jump like Pikachu or maybe even if you really want to be unique and creative give her the ability to press shield on stage walls to climb for a short moment and you got yourself a perfectly fine complete moveset
I think we could add Reimu from Touhou Project to the roster. It's been around since 1996, it's absolutely MASSIVE in Japan and still to this date, the mainline games are made ENTIRELY by just ONE dude, it's creator, Jun'ya Ota, better known as ZUN. Touhou Project has been the inspiration to a TON of indie developers, not only in the videogame industry, but also art, anime, and specially music. But perhaps what might shock you the most is that Touhou was one of the main inspirations behind Undertale. Toby is a big Touhou fan, and his music was inspired by the way ZUN composes his music. They even hang out together from time to time. Touhou might not be that well known on the western side of the world, but it is still fairly big, with many large conventions all about it every year. Touhou fans are everywhere, we are just kinda an underground community.
He might be saving Touhou for its own video. They do have that side series of fighting games after all, and if you include the PC98 games it's technically old enough that it had enough characters for Smash Bros as the Sega Smash dictates.
I feel we could have Reimu and Marisa together like Pyra/Mythra. Reimu would be the faster one with less powerful attacks, a smaller hitbox and smaller attacks. Meanwhile Marisa would have a larger hitbox and basically just be your standard super nuke with ungodly big attacks with the drawback of charge times and slower movement speeds
I’m surprised Touhou didn’t have any representation in this hypothetical game, considering its practically the most iconic indie game series in japan, and has been part of internet culture since the early-mid 2000’s. Besides that, I’d love to see a part 2 to this elaborating on the dlc line up Edit: If I could modify the roster, I’d put Reimu in place of Crow. Then just make Crow the arcade final boss like what Indie Pogo did. Hell, if there was a story mode to this game, Crow could be the main reason all the universes in this game crossed over, like how its implied that in Playstation all stars, Polygon man brought all the characters together because he was salty that they were better playstation mascots than he was

So happy you mention thems fighting herds and helltaker. Some of the characters I would want are Reimu from Tohou, Madotsuki from Yumme Niki, Frisk from Undertale, Dust from Dust: Dust an Elysian Tale, the knights from castle crashers, Brad Armstrong from Lisa, the Stranger from Furi, Niko from Oneshot, the Batter from Off, Iji from Iji, Raz from Psychonauts, Wayne from Hylics, or one of the countless characters from visual novels (like uminkeo) or flash games (Pico Schoo, Chainsaw the children, Friday Night Funkin' etc). Freddy Fazbear and the hooded figure from Journey would make good assists. The home screen of hypnospace and Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion would also make good stages. If I had to offer a critique though I don't think you should limit yourself to characters who are "fighters". Smash has demonstrated that they don't need to be combatants to be playable (Villager, Wii-Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt, etc). They could have exaggerated movements that do damage like Phoenix Wright. If you want to include a dating sim character, I say go for it. Also, might just be me but I would love for you to go in-depth on everything else. I loved how much passion you put into the initial MVC 4 video. Like obviously you don't need to do that for every video because it would take way too much work, but if you ever want to revisit the finer points of these hypothetical games in a part 2 I definitely wouldn't complain.
Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion would be a great stage. Imagine the Specimens as stage hazards, who would be signaled by a change in music, and then they'd try to kill you. Also Spooky being in the background and saying something every once in a while would be cool.
hear me out, we pick say... three of the specimen, and Spooky works as a pokemon trainer style character who can switch between the three throughout the match let's say... 2, 4 and 10? 2 could be the middle ground with a medium speed and attacks, 4 could be slower on the ground but faster in the air and with the best aerials, 10 could be the fastest on the ground by turning into the little leech form to dash and excelling at ground combat

When you were describing the Limbo stage I for a split second thought you were talking about the Art museum from IB, which made me realize the lack of RPGmaker horror games in this video. I realize that they are an even more niche subgenre of indie games, but their still indie games at the end of the day with a very passionate community, so it would have nice to see some representation in the form of a few stages, like the Mansion from Mad Father, or the trippy Dreamscape in Yume Nikki. They could play a similar role as the Pictochat or Endoplankton stages in Smash: incredibly niche thing that have no business having fighters, but still manages to be represented for the few passionate and in the know about it.
Maybe they just had an issue with the Mane 6 fighting each other? They didn’t have Tirek or any actual villains in that roster, and those were the characters involved in those fights. Then again, they DID also have the Mane 6 fight each other in the show multiple times... ...Although I will admit fighting was antithetical to the show and they probably wouldn’t want to encourage kids to fight each other with the same characters trying to teach them about kindness and generosity and all that.

About Huntress trophie. If there is a "saving" mechanic,there must be a reward i think. A random item or so. Purely random. Just imagine. Shantae is taken by Huntress,not able to do anything but shake in fear of inevitable death. Then, Shovel Knight, like a true walking miracle that he is, drops his deadly weapon right on maniac's head, saving little girl from this nightmare. She calms her down and turns to thank her hero... Only to see the abyss of rocket launcher. Staring. Right. On her.
Some other characters that could make the game as fighters or assists: - Red (Transistor) - The Kid (Bastion) - Red Robe (Journey) - Aurora (Child of Light) - The Stranger (Furi) - Spelunker (Spelunky) - The Marked Ninja (Mark of the Ninja) A cool stage concept would be: - Blank white stage that would be painted with the fight (Unfinished Swan)
I can just imagine the potential story mode. Crow looks across the Multiverse, and decides to up the anty of his villainy by taking over multiple universes at once,and to do so seeks out the mcguffin. But when he finds it, it turns out to be alive and takes his body over. From there it starts to mess with reality, causing worlds to either get linked or collide, and even bring back dead villains like The Radiance and Enchantress, continuing the chaos. From there we get multiple scenes in the story like Ori and Knight making their way out of Hallownest, Zagreus being led by Beheaded out of a dungeon, Miriam meeting Shovel Knight and commenting on how he looks familiar, Fillia getting attacked by Risky Boots and teaming up with Shantae and much more. At the end, when the being has been purged from Crow, in one last act of desperation, starts drawing the previous bosses and itself into Tartarus, and uses the energy there to create a new form with elements of the bosses, such as Radiance's wings and Pirate King's skull head.
I really want to see your take on this: Build the Roster: Cartoon Network's Ultimate Punchtime Explosion. I imagine this game as a traditional 2D fighter, unlike the smash bros inspired one with a artstyle similar to Skullgirls, since the fighters come from 2D cartoons.
I would love that too. My version of CNPTE would have a main roster of CN originals, Hanna Barbera properties, and TOM from Toonami. The art style should also be similar to Fusionfall: anime-esque. Also I agree that the game should be more like a fighting game or maybe an arena fighter similar to J-Stars.

@@illford it's.. arguably everywhere. touhou has had such a massive influence on the internet that you could be looking at a blatant or subtle touhou reference without even realizing it.

The franchise has entire conventions dedicated to it and it takes the top spot in fan creatoins atat the biggest anime and gaming convention in Japan almost every year. Just because it's smaller in america doesn't mean it is purely niche. The series has sold over a hundred million copies.
@Illford6921 I mean, being popular with a niche is kind of a thing for indie games in general. This applies to several of the characters mentioned in this video. Also, while Touhou isn't popular in the west, it is absolutely massive in Japan. Heck, even in the west, anyone who get a bit familiar with anime or japaneses fandoms is bound to hear about it due to the sheer amount of fanworks online. I've never played Touhou, but I can still recognize several of the characters. Ironically, I think the reason why people often forget it is how different the serie's identity is compared to other Indies.

'Cuz it can't be any of the definitions that I use... Be it through pop-cultural osmosis, exposure through musicians who do covers of video game music, being introduced via Undertale, finding fan-art or fanime episodes, etc, A LOT of people know about and love Touhou in their own way and for their own reasons... If nothing else then the idea that Touhou isn't very popular is, at the very least, a dreadfully western-central perspective: It's huge in both Japan and China. As in, it's so big that it was effectively banned from Comiket, Japan's biggest convention for doujin and indie publishers, on account of the fact that the Touhou stuff was completely displacing all other content. Which is why Reitaisai, an annual convention dedicated to Touhou only, was started back in 2004 and is still going strong. Saying that "Touhou isn't very popular" is like saying "Beserk isn't very popular" or "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure isn't very popular" or "Alice in Wonderland isn't very popular"... I don't know how many people read them these days, but I do know that we have no idea what modern pop-culture would even look like without their influence.

Fighter Emblem sounds poggers. Imagine a MvC or KoF esque Fire Emblem fighter where you can switch between fighters as a call back to the Rescue mechanic, and supers that are like Triangle attacks.
Pretty cool game concept! But one thing I must say: poor Frisk, everyone seems to forget that they are in fact the protagonist and most important character in Undertale in favor of a dude that would rather do anything but fight
I think he didn’t talk about Steve because he’s already in Smash, and his status as an indie character is questionable due to him being owned by Microsoft.
If I may add my idea for the Dead cells guy, what if the weapons you get get progressively better and better the longer you last. So you start out pulling dull knives and wooden mallets or something, but last long enough and you'll get an elemental infused great sword or what ever that game has late game. But when he dies he loses all of it and starts from square one. So in other words, you pop up, have a rough time at first, but become more beastly the farther you go. One mistake though, and it's time to start the grind again. If your gonna emulate rouge likes may as well go all the way.
An almost perfect list. I'd add two characters to the roster. 1. The Kid from Bastion. I know we'd be double dipping into Supergiant games but, c'mon, if anybody earned it it would be Supergiant. Plus we could have his stage have Rucks as a narrator and that alone is well worth it. 2. The protagonist of Hotline Miami. Having a hard hitting but frail aggro character would just be a blast to play as.
I've always thought Undyne would be a better fighter choice from Undertale, because out of everyone in the game, she's the only one who does actual attacks with her spear outside of the more symbolic and depictive attacks that the game uses in its regular combat.
In terms of more obscure characters I'd love to see the Batter from OFF. If your part of the RPG Maker community then OFF is basically one of the biggest game from that community. Move set wise he could use his bat to hit a ball around and could have help from his "hulahoop" partner. Most of his move set would have to mostly be made up tho.
This is a pretty great roster, although I am pretty disappointed by the lack of anything Touhou related, seeing as how its probably the biggest indie game series all of time (in Japan at least). I'd probably replace the Nidhogg guy with Reimu since he's the only character that I literally had never heard of before this video. I also think there's a bit too many fighting game and rouge-like characters here, so maybe I'd remove The Beheaded/Drifter and Arizona in favor of characters like Gunvolt or Henry Stickmin. Also, a lot of the characters that you said couldn't work like The Goose, Madeline, or Freddy have had movesets made for them by someone named Brawlfan1, so maybe they could be DLC characters?
I think there are too many metroidvania reps, not too many roguelikes. Also, the Drifter isn't from a roguelike or a fighting game, so why would you talk about removing him?
An odd character I had in my mind for this game was Bradley Armstrong from Lisa the Painful. I feel that a lot of his attacks would translate oddly well to a fighting game
A theoretical DLC expansion for this theoretical game; Let’s say the game blows up and sells millions. The same weird rich guy funds 8 extra DLC characters for this game to bring the character count up to 32. 1. Terrarian from Terraria 2. Freddy Fazbear from Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. Monika from Doki Doki Literature Club 4. Green Knight from Castle Crashers 5. Impostor from Among Us ( As a fully playable character ) 6. Dive or Kick from Divekick. I think they’d work just fine having one really strong move. Maybe give him the ability to walk or run. 7. The Goat from Goat simulator 8. Rusty from Steamworld Dig. Some stages could include: 1. Freddy Fazbear’s pizza restaurant 2. Terraria world. Would have Corruption, Crimson and Hallow versions. With Eater of Worlds, Brain of Cthulhu and Empress of Light in the background respectively. 3. The Club room from DDLC. 4. The Skeld from Among us.
I also want that. My biggest concern with that is how big the roster would be. Marvel and DC both have SO MANY really important, iconic, fan favorite, and interesting characters to utilize in a game like this that you would have to exclude some major players just to keep the size realistic. Heck, I myself came up with a hypothetical roster for this concept before, and made it around 80 characters and STILL had to cut corners.
Okay- Take all the characters from the Marvel Vs Capcom 4 BtR, get rid of all the Capcom characters, and then slap the remaining characters onto the Injustice 3 BtR. There you go! Marvel Vs DC, all ready to- ...Yeah OK, that’s not gonna fly, is it?
You may want to take a look at Fraymakers. The Kickstarter is over, but it's a Smash clone made by *the Super Smash Flash devs* that's committed to stuffing its roster full of assist characters from every vaguely notable indie game. That includes The Kid from I Wanna' Be The Guy, Fancypants, and the Newgrounds logo itself. Yes, there's footage. Fraymakers goes deep.

As someone who wants a fully playable indie game character in Smash Bros, you seriously made my day with this. I still like Smash but I would play this hypothetical game in a heartbeat.

I guess this is an old video, but I just wanted to leave my ideas for some Assist Trophies from the games represented in the main roster. Listed in the order I thought of them. -Kuro (Ori): First appears in the background, and flies off-screen. Then she flies back and forth across the screen dealing heavy damage and knockback, with each strike preceded by a glowing aura showing where she’ll fly next; Basically a stronger but more telegraphed version of Latios/Latias. -Zote the Mighty (Hollow Knight): Runs back and forth across the stage. Does no damage, but colliding with any character causes both Zote and that character to trip. -Milla Basset (Freedom Planet) Follows the character who summoned her and tries to protect them with her shield. The shield can reflect most projectiles, but will break after absorbing a certain amount of melee attacks. -Forsburn (Rivals of Aether): Runs around freely and obscures sections of the stage with smoke. Players can clear the smoke by attacking it, as in his original game. When he disappears, any remaining smoke clouds burst into flame. -Balrog (Cave Story): Behaves identically to Snorlax; Jumps up and then crashes down onto the stage. -Frisk (Undertale): When they appear, a text box appears on the bottom of the screen, indicating a phone call from a random Undertale character. Functionally identical to Resetti in Brawl. There would be unique dialogue if Sans is engaged in combat, and varying depending on whether or not Sans was the one to summon Frisk.
Personally I would put Madeline in the main roster. Her kit is simple, but has enough potential variety for a fun moveset. Plus I think BrawlFan1 had a great idea of her being able to call out Badeline like a Jojo stand to deal the more damaging attacks, Smash has some Jojo-esque characters, so it would only be fitting for Indie Smash to have one of its own too. Still, I can't deny your idea for her giving out strawberries to heal people is also a fun and more wholesome way to implement her, and I'm just glad she got some recognition here at all
Will be more interesting a figthing game version of proyect zone x that is a crossover between capcom, segan and namco, a marvel vs snk will be strange because snk is not so relacionated with american companies, and because the anterior reasom its more posible a snk vs shonen jump considering the actual relationship of snk and bandai and the existence of a crossover of tekken and gintama in kof all stars

Wow, this was way more interesting than the thumbnail and title already made it seem. Like, I'm super glad you brought up some characters I'm already familiar with or come from games I've tried, and so therefore I care about them to some degree (Yooka and Laylee, Filia (and Samson; the Parasite is still there too,) and Shantae,) but you've also done the impossible: Made the other games the rest of the roster come from look interesting enough to at least try. Like, I've known about A Hat in Time for a while now and always thought "eh, just not for me." But the way you presented it makes it look fun. That's a hell of an achievement, dude. Bravo!
A few additions, if I may. I understand you didn't want the video to be too long, but I just can't pass some stage ideas up. *Impressionist Fields from Rock of Ages 2:* This series has plenty of potential for stages, but I think Van Gogh's battlefield provides the best scenery. It would work kind of like Delfino Plaza in _Smash,_ with the main platform flying around the battlefield and stopping at various points. Just make sure you stay out of the way of the boulder barreling down the hill, and don't get hit by any of the obstacles. *Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion:* Occasionally, fog envelops the stage and transitions the fighters to one of the Specimen Rooms. There, they will have to run from the monster roaming said area to avoid an instant KO. To compensate, the specimens are slow. *Totally Accurate Battlefield from TABS:* This one's admittedly a bit tricky, since it's thematically similar to Rock of Ages' stage. A battle would obviously be unfolding in the background, but it would probably look even more ridiculous than Rock of Ages. The soldiers all flop around and wave their weapons like they've never used arms before, and the cavalry horses are somehow even derpier. *EDIT:* Also, I'm a bit surprised Beatrix LeBeau from _Slime Rancher_ is nowhere to be found in this video. Oh well, there's always DLC! ; )
Another great video, loved all of your ideas so I tried to come up with some of my own. Characters Dust (Dust an Elysian Tale) - His main attacks would use his swords but he would call for Fidget's help for his specials (Except up-special it would be his Dust Storm ability) and his super would combine his Dust Storm with Fidget's abilities Jacket (Hotline Miami) - A not as complicated version of the Beheaded. He would be able to pick up 3 types of weapons: Melee, Firearms and Throwing. All melee weapon would deal the same damage but would have diffrent range and speed (You would also be able to throw them to stun someone). Firearms take the longest to find and would dissapear after you run out of ammo but they have good range and damage. Throwing would be found the quickest but the only thing you can do with them is throw. And finaly for his super he would put on Tony (Tiger mask), rush forward and start doing some executions on the people he hit. Terrarian (Terraria) - He would be able to change between the 4 classes from the game (Melee, Ranged, Mage, Summoner) to change his normal attacks and specials (Except for his up-special which would always be wings) Assists The Pickpocket (Monaco) - He and his monkey would run around the stage while picking up items and then give them to you Rambro (Broforce) - Runs around the stage shooting everyone or stabing tthem if they get to close, before he dissaperes he would throw out a granade and flex Stages Antichamber (Antichamber) - Just as the game, the stage would be designed to confuse everyone with stuff that doesn't make sense. It would be based on a random room from the orignal and depending on the room it would have a absurd twist, for example there could be a room with a hole in the middle but falling into it wouldn't kill you, it would instead teleport you back on the stage and start to create a bridge that would cover the hole. Flying Airplanes (Finding Paradise [A sequel to Too the Moon for those unaware]) - A simple stage consistng of a bunch of giant flying paper airplanes Dawning of The Pants (Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers) - Based on the final battle from the game, you would be fighting on a group of floating rocks but at the same time the before mentioned battle is taking place in the backround and every now and then Tiny or Big would accidently destroy/change the arena by either cutting some of the rocks or throwing new ones in. Items Tiny's rocket (Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers) - Lets you fire a rocket that would attach to anything you aim it at and start pushing it. Buddy in a box (The Binding of Isaac) - Spawns a random fammilar from the game that would work just as they do in the game.
For the people confused about this and Fraymakers... 1- No, Fraymakers was revealed waaay before this video, so Fraymakers isn't copying it. 2- It doesn't seem like the creator knew Fraymakers, since if he did, he would had pointed it out, so the inverse is also wrong. 3- The ideas of both games seem familiar, until you get into mechanics, the assists of this game (like in smash, atleast it seems so) would be items, while in Fraymakers they are really similar to Card Saga Wars (but the assists aren't randomized), which is (or so I think) the inspiration of that mechanic. 4- Fraymakers has also the difference of number of characters, being low, but it's balanced via the assists. 5- Fraymakers could be considered as an indie even, taking note that Rivals of Aether is considered one, hence it could be refferenced if this game becomes a reality. I hope this clears some doubts about both of these games.

For a bit of an out-there pick, I'd have to say *Kaze the Rabbit* from _Kaze and the Wild Masks,_ which came out not too long ago. I could easily see her working a lot like Mega Man in _Smash_ by using the four different Wild Masks for both her special and basic attacks (claw slashes/aerial dashing with the Tiger Mask, flying with the Eagle Mask, etc.), gliding with her helicopter ears for a strong recovery, and she could have Hogo (her red spirit companion) assist her with attacks and helping defend her with his shields.
I think it's worth noting that there's an indie platform fighter called Fraymakers by the Super Smash Flash 2 devs. It has a relatively small main cast, but lots of other characters are represented by MVC style assists. It also has cool stuff like airdashing and rollback netcode. Its really cool and just finished it's KS campaign, check it out if you're interested.

Maybe have the place on the stage where the Knight got knocked out would have a dark orb where the specter would come out to telegraph where it will come from.

I definitely want this, but i think the gameplay would have to be pretty different from injustice, and closer to MvC or skullgirls (fast paced very Ariel) bug besides that I would love to see a build the roster of this
Assist: Tim (Braid) He rewinds time by a few seconds, moving the fighters around and reversing any changes to their damage meters. He might also reverse everyone's controls except for the one who summoned him, as if you were moving backwards in time. Assist: The Dealer (Inscryption) The demonic entity from Inscryption appears in the background, and prepares to make a Death Card. His camera flashes, and a random opponent gets turned into a card that acts as an item. You could easily throw this card off the stage, but you could also attack it until it runs out of hit points, giving you a massive power boost, as if you absorbed your opponent's soul. Assist: Ayano Aishi (Yandere Simulator) She's similar to the Lyn Assist Trophy, delivering a devastating attack that's almost always an instant KO. The catch is that she walks immensely slow. However, unlike other assists, she won't disappear until she attacks someone. A skilled player could launch her off the stage before she manages to stab them, but good freakin' luck. Also, if she attacks you from behind, you take double damage. Assist: Sakuya Izayoi (Touhou) The maid of the Scarlet Mansion stops time, then unleashes a storm of throwing knives. Pretty basic, but what matters is that she's a JoJo reference. Assist: Wobblers (Totally Accurate Battle Simulator) TABS is a parody of strategy games such as Total War, so this Assist would be similar to the Advance Wars Assist from SSBB (the best Smash game, fight me). A squad of Wobblers, or Peasants, or Halflings, whatever, show up, then spread out and attack players. There's also a random chance of spawning a Mammoth, or a Super Boxer. You know, since TABS is a parody of strategy games, and the developers of that game also made a parody of battle royale (TABG), and a parody of survival horror (TABZ), I kinda want Landfall to make a Totally Accurate Battle Smash.

I gotta say, I would have LOVED to see a Touhou fighter, probably Flandre Scarlet, since I believe she's probably the most iconic. She has wings for recovery (and maybe attacks), a weapon to do physical attacks with, and bullet hell for her specials and ultimate. Sure, you could pick one of the protagonists, but Flandre Scarlet and her theme are iconic.
honestly touhou has way too many iconic characters that could fit. hell there are several touhou fighting games (both official and unofficial, thanks to zun being prettty relaxed about people using his characters)
For a Touhou character, the only correct answers are the two protagonists, Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame. The former appears on the title screen (and boxart) of every game, the latter tends to be the icon for the executables.
Gunvolt should be DLC. I mean, the moveset is easy enough, and as an Echo, Copen. Basic attacks are shooting bolts, which can be charged, but won't do much damage. They Tag (like Inklings ink attacks, but no refill) and that's where Specials come in. Specials usually only brings out Flashfield, but if a character is Tagged, they'll take escalating damage. Final Smash is a screen blasting Max Luxcalibers. Copen, however, Tags by Dashing into characters, doing damage. He's more physical, and Lola helps with long range. His dash can push characters around, too, but only Lightweights. Final smash is his Attack from his ASG2, Star Shredder (a screen clearer, like Max Luxcaliber) This works! I hope.

Also, Kirin (I think is her name) could be another Echo Fighter to promote the new game that'll come out in the future!

A few more assist suggestions: Specimen 3 (Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion): falls from the top of the stage and quickly roams around the floor dealing decent damage. If the player is above a certain amount of health, recreates jumpscare. The Narrator (Stanley Parable): when summoned, the voice starts playing and every so often reacts to an input from the player who summoned it. Spider (Limbo): everything turns black and white. The spider hides off of furthest ledge of the stage and strikes players who get close. If leg is attacked, starts to chase. Shopkeeper (Spelunky): An powerful item appears somewhere on the stage. If it is picked up, the shopkeeper appears and starts quickly chasing and shooting the player who did until they die.

I think that all of the characters mentioned in this video would be great fighters Except for sans. His boss fight is great, but it’s also a gimmick. He is supposed to be the weakest monster in the underground. his stats are 1. He would be better as an assist.
I’ve seen BrawlFan1 make a Sans moveset justifiable by adding Papyrus and having Papyrus fight but if he takes too much damage, he dies and Sans joins in his place.

In my own opinion I think Sans is a wasted choice when it comes to undertale reps, the main character Frisk has a much wider arsenal and more potential for a moveset then the overused dead meme skeleton. Frisk has more weapons and items to spare than Sans has puns, plus more potential for a Super move.

A great roster for sure. For any DLC, 12 characters I think would be unique and fun: 1. V1 from Ultrakill - would require a little toning down but a fast based fighter with a plethora of guns would be a lot of fun. 2. Castle Crashers - any of the main 4 would do. Honestly should’ve been in the main roster. 3. Jacket from Hotline Miami - again, would need toning down but plenty of potential for a fun and unique fighter. 4. The Scout from Deep Rock Galactic - DRG is a very popular game that should be included, and the Scout is typically front and centre, though any of the dwarfs would do fine. They could be a sort-of summoner type character, using special moves to bring out the other classes. 5. The Batter (OFF) - I feel like RPG maker games need representation and The Batter would certainly work well and feel unique 6. Brad Armstrong (LISA) - similarly, Brad Armstrong would work just as well and be just as unique. 7. Peppino from Pizza Tower - almost certainly would be on the roster if this video was made today. 8. The Fish from Nuclear Throne - a personal favourite, I feel bullet hell roguelikes needs some representation and I just think the Fish is cool. 9. ToeJam and Earl - yes, they do count as indie due to no longer being owned by SEGA. Would provide a fun duo character to the roster. 10. “The Protagonist” from Disco Elysium - an oddball pick but certainly one I feel has a lot of potential for a unique move set. 11. i actually made my own smash moveset for jacket revolving around each move using a different weapon, that weapon breaking after a successful hit with it, and the move turning into an unarmed attack for several seconds until you gain the weapon back, making you adapt to what weapons you still have available, just as hotline miami's gameplay is very centered on quickly adapting to what resources you have at your disposal

Just a quick correction here - Shantae was never a Nintendo character. She’s always been created and owned by Wayforward, even back on the GBC. The confusion of if she’s indie or not comes with some people thinking she was a CAPCOM character... but they only PUBLISHED the first Shantae game, they had no hand in creating or funding it, hence why the game was released so late in the GBC’s lifecycle - the game was finished, but Wayforward had a hard time finding someone who would publish a GBC game with an expensive 32 megabit battery.
Long story short, Shantae is 100% indie!
Beyond that, this is an absolutely awesome video as usual. I really think a massive indie crossover of this caliber would be incredible to see - the characters, the movesets, the MUSIC! It makes me want to get rich just to fund it.

@@vergilsonofsparda2350 People who say that Madeline wouldn't fit into a platform fighter and that she is not a fighter and stuff are honestly just straight up not doing their research right. it takes just like 3-4 google searches if you don't know what to look for that is, to find out that Madeline is extremely skilled at archery (as seen on Theos Instagram) and actually already has a semi fighting game appearance in towerfall, combine her archery with her abilities to dash and maybe throw in some of celestes stage gimmicks like the bubbles or seekers (she by far wouldn't be the first character on a smash roster who utilizes stage and world gimmicks from their game in their moveset) give her a wall jump like Pikachu or maybe even if you really want to be unique and creative give her the ability to press shield on stage walls to climb for a short moment and you got yourself a perfectly fine complete moveset
I think we could add Reimu from Touhou Project to the roster. It's been around since 1996, it's absolutely MASSIVE in Japan and still to this date, the mainline games are made ENTIRELY by just ONE dude, it's creator, Jun'ya Ota, better known as ZUN.
Touhou Project has been the inspiration to a TON of indie developers, not only in the videogame industry, but also art, anime, and specially music. But perhaps what might shock you the most is that Touhou was one of the main inspirations behind Undertale. Toby is a big Touhou fan, and his music was inspired by the way ZUN composes his music. They even hang out together from time to time.
Touhou might not be that well known on the western side of the world, but it is still fairly big, with many large conventions all about it every year. Touhou fans are everywhere, we are just kinda an underground community.

He might be saving Touhou for its own video. They do have that side series of fighting games after all, and if you include the PC98 games it's technically old enough that it had enough characters for Smash Bros as the Sega Smash dictates.
One of Reimu's alternate costumes should be her PC-98 appearance, when she had purple hair and sleeves that covered up her armpits.
I feel we could have Reimu and Marisa together like Pyra/Mythra. Reimu would be the faster one with less powerful attacks, a smaller hitbox and smaller attacks. Meanwhile Marisa would have a larger hitbox and basically just be your standard super nuke with ungodly big attacks with the drawback of charge times and slower movement speeds

So happy you mention thems fighting herds and helltaker. Some of the characters I would want are Reimu from Tohou, Madotsuki from Yumme Niki, Frisk from Undertale, Dust from Dust: Dust an Elysian Tale, the knights from castle crashers, Brad Armstrong from Lisa, the Stranger from Furi, Niko from Oneshot, the Batter from Off, Iji from Iji, Raz from Psychonauts, Wayne from Hylics, or one of the countless characters from visual novels (like uminkeo) or flash games (Pico Schoo, Chainsaw the children, Friday Night Funkin' etc). Freddy Fazbear and the hooded figure from Journey would make good assists. The home screen of hypnospace and Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion would also make good stages.
If I had to offer a critique though I don't think you should limit yourself to characters who are "fighters". Smash has demonstrated that they don't need to be combatants to be playable (Villager, Wii-Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt, etc). They could have exaggerated movements that do damage like Phoenix Wright. If you want to include a dating sim character, I say go for it. Also, might just be me but I would love for you to go in-depth on everything else. I loved how much passion you put into the initial MVC 4 video. Like obviously you don't need to do that for every video because it would take way too much work, but if you ever want to revisit the finer points of these hypothetical games in a part 2 I definitely wouldn't complain.
Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion would be a great stage. Imagine the Specimens as stage hazards, who would be signaled by a change in music, and then they'd try to kill you. Also Spooky being in the background and saying something every once in a while would be cool.

hear me out, we pick say... three of the specimen, and Spooky works as a pokemon trainer style character who can switch between the three throughout the match let's say... 2, 4 and 10?
2 could be the middle ground with a medium speed and attacks,
4 could be slower on the ground but faster in the air and with the best aerials,
10 could be the fastest on the ground by turning into the little leech form to dash and excelling at ground combat

When you were describing the Limbo stage I for a split second thought you were talking about the Art museum from IB, which made me realize the lack of RPGmaker horror games in this video. I realize that they are an even more niche subgenre of indie games, but their still indie games at the end of the day with a very passionate community, so it would have nice to see some representation in the form of a few stages, like the Mansion from Mad Father, or the trippy Dreamscape in Yume Nikki. They could play a similar role as the Pictochat or Endoplankton stages in Smash: incredibly niche thing that have no business having fighters, but still manages to be represented for the few passionate and in the know about it.
Hasbro: We don't want our characters fighting each other. That's why every season finale has DBZ style fights
Maybe they just had an issue with the Mane 6 fighting each other? They didn’t have Tirek or any actual villains in that roster, and those were the characters involved in those fights.
Then again, they DID also have the Mane 6 fight each other in the show multiple times...
...Although I will admit fighting was antithetical to the show and they probably wouldn’t want to encourage kids to fight each other with the same characters trying to teach them about kindness and generosity and all that.

Just imagine. Shantae is taken by Huntress,not able to do anything but shake in fear of inevitable death. Then, Shovel Knight, like a true walking miracle that he is, drops his deadly weapon right on maniac's head, saving little girl from this nightmare. She calms her down and turns to thank her hero... Only to see the abyss of rocket launcher.

I can just imagine the potential story mode. Crow looks across the Multiverse, and decides to up the anty of his villainy by taking over multiple universes at once,and to do so seeks out the mcguffin. But when he finds it, it turns out to be alive and takes his body over. From there it starts to mess with reality, causing worlds to either get linked or collide, and even bring back dead villains like The Radiance and Enchantress, continuing the chaos. From there we get multiple scenes in the story like Ori and Knight making their way out of Hallownest, Zagreus being led by Beheaded out of a dungeon, Miriam meeting Shovel Knight and commenting on how he looks familiar, Fillia getting attacked by Risky Boots and teaming up with Shantae and much more. At the end, when the being has been purged from Crow, in one last act of desperation, starts drawing the previous bosses and itself into Tartarus, and uses the energy there to create a new form with elements of the bosses, such as Radiance's wings and Pirate King's skull head.

I would love that too. My version of CNPTE would have a main roster of CN originals, Hanna Barbera properties, and TOM from Toonami. The art style should also be similar to Fusionfall: anime-esque. Also I agree that the game should be more like a fighting game or maybe an arena fighter similar to J-Stars.

@@illford it's.. arguably everywhere. touhou has had such a massive influence on the internet that you could be looking at a blatant or subtle touhou reference without even realizing it.

The franchise has entire conventions dedicated to it and it takes the top spot in fan creatoins atat the biggest anime and gaming convention in Japan almost every year. Just because it's smaller in america doesn't mean it is purely niche. The series has sold over a hundred million copies.

Also, while Touhou isn't popular in the west, it is absolutely massive in Japan.
Heck, even in the west, anyone who get a bit familiar with anime or japaneses fandoms is bound to hear about it due to the sheer amount of fanworks online. I've never played Touhou, but I can still recognize several of the characters.
Ironically, I think the reason why people often forget it is how different the serie's identity is compared to other Indies.

'Cuz it can't be any of the definitions that I use... Be it through pop-cultural osmosis, exposure through musicians who do covers of video game music, being introduced via Undertale, finding fan-art or fanime episodes, etc, A LOT of people know about and love Touhou in their own way and for their own reasons... If nothing else then the idea that Touhou isn't very popular is, at the very least, a dreadfully western-central perspective: It's huge in both Japan and China. As in, it's so big that it was effectively banned from Comiket, Japan's biggest convention for doujin and indie publishers, on account of the fact that the Touhou stuff was completely displacing all other content. Which is why Reitaisai, an annual convention dedicated to Touhou only, was started back in 2004 and is still going strong.
Saying that "Touhou isn't very popular" is like saying "Beserk isn't very popular" or "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure isn't very popular" or "Alice in Wonderland isn't very popular"... I don't know how many people read them these days, but I do know that we have no idea what modern pop-culture would even look like without their influence.

Fighter Emblem sounds poggers. Imagine a MvC or KoF esque Fire Emblem fighter where you can switch between fighters as a call back to the Rescue mechanic, and supers that are like Triangle attacks.

If I may add my idea for the Dead cells guy, what if the weapons you get get progressively better and better the longer you last. So you start out pulling dull knives and wooden mallets or something, but last long enough and you'll get an elemental infused great sword or what ever that game has late game. But when he dies he loses all of it and starts from square one. So in other words, you pop up, have a rough time at first, but become more beastly the farther you go. One mistake though, and it's time to start the grind again.
If your gonna emulate rouge likes may as well go all the way.
An almost perfect list. I'd add two characters to the roster.
1. The Kid from Bastion. I know we'd be double dipping into Supergiant games but, c'mon, if anybody earned it it would be Supergiant. Plus we could have his stage have Rucks as a narrator and that alone is well worth it.
2. The protagonist of Hotline Miami. Having a hard hitting but frail aggro character would just be a blast to play as.
Hotline Miami rep would most likely be jacket considering he crossed over with payday 2

I've always thought Undyne would be a better fighter choice from Undertale, because out of everyone in the game, she's the only one who does actual attacks with her spear outside of the more symbolic and depictive attacks that the game uses in its regular combat.

In terms of more obscure characters I'd love to see the Batter from OFF. If your part of the RPG Maker community then OFF is basically one of the biggest game from that community. Move set wise he could use his bat to hit a ball around and could have help from his "hulahoop" partner. Most of his move set would have to mostly be made up tho.

This is a pretty great roster, although I am pretty disappointed by the lack of anything Touhou related, seeing as how its probably the biggest indie game series all of time (in Japan at least). I'd probably replace the Nidhogg guy with Reimu since he's the only character that I literally had never heard of before this video. I also think there's a bit too many fighting game and rouge-like characters here, so maybe I'd remove The Beheaded/Drifter and Arizona in favor of characters like Gunvolt or Henry Stickmin.
Also, a lot of the characters that you said couldn't work like The Goose, Madeline, or Freddy have had movesets made for them by someone named Brawlfan1, so maybe they could be DLC characters?
Same with Octodad since McLeod Gaming gave him a moveset

I also want that. My biggest concern with that is how big the roster would be. Marvel and DC both have SO MANY really important, iconic, fan favorite, and interesting characters to utilize in a game like this that you would have to exclude some major players just to keep the size realistic. Heck, I myself came up with a hypothetical roster for this concept before, and made it around 80 characters and STILL had to cut corners.

I guess this is an old video, but I just wanted to leave my ideas for some Assist Trophies from the games represented in the main roster. Listed in the order I thought of them.
-Kuro (Ori): First appears in the background, and flies off-screen. Then she flies back and forth across the screen dealing heavy damage and knockback, with each strike preceded by a glowing aura showing where she’ll fly next; Basically a stronger but more telegraphed version of Latios/Latias.
-Zote the Mighty (Hollow Knight): Runs back and forth across the stage. Does no damage, but colliding with any character causes both Zote and that character to trip.
-Milla Basset (Freedom Planet) Follows the character who summoned her and tries to protect them with her shield. The shield can reflect most projectiles, but will break after absorbing a certain amount of melee attacks.
-Forsburn (Rivals of Aether): Runs around freely and obscures sections of the stage with smoke. Players can clear the smoke by attacking it, as in his original game. When he disappears, any remaining smoke clouds burst into flame.
-Balrog (Cave Story): Behaves identically to Snorlax; Jumps up and then crashes down onto the stage.
-Frisk (Undertale): When they appear, a text box appears on the bottom of the screen, indicating a phone call from a random Undertale character. Functionally identical to Resetti in Brawl. There would be unique dialogue if Sans is engaged in combat, and varying depending on whether or not Sans was the one to summon Frisk.
I got an AFK Arena ad in the middle of this and thought for a second it was part of the video.

Personally I would put Madeline in the main roster. Her kit is simple, but has enough potential variety for a fun moveset. Plus I think BrawlFan1 had a great idea of her being able to call out Badeline like a Jojo stand to deal the more damaging attacks, Smash has some Jojo-esque characters, so it would only be fitting for Indie Smash to have one of its own too. Still, I can't deny your idea for her giving out strawberries to heal people is also a fun and more wholesome way to implement her, and I'm just glad she got some recognition here at all
Some hypothetical build the rosters I would love to see:
- Capcom vs Sega
- Marvel vs SNK
- A VILLAINS ONLY Smash Bros
- Capcom vs Shonen Jumpstars
Will be more interesting a figthing game version of proyect zone x that is a crossover between capcom, segan and namco, a marvel vs snk will be strange because snk is not so relacionated with american companies, and because the anterior reasom its more posible a snk vs shonen jump considering the actual relationship of snk and bandai and the existence of a crossover of tekken and gintama in kof all stars

Wow, this was way more interesting than the thumbnail and title already made it seem. Like, I'm super glad you brought up some characters I'm already familiar with or come from games I've tried, and so therefore I care about them to some degree (Yooka and Laylee, Filia (and Samson; the Parasite is still there too,) and Shantae,) but you've also done the impossible: Made the other games the rest of the roster come from look interesting enough to at least try. Like, I've known about A Hat in Time for a while now and always thought "eh, just not for me." But the way you presented it makes it look fun. That's a hell of an achievement, dude. Bravo!
A few additions, if I may. I understand you didn't want the video to be too long, but I just can't pass some stage ideas up.
*Impressionist Fields from Rock of Ages 2:* This series has plenty of potential for stages, but I think Van Gogh's battlefield provides the best scenery. It would work kind of like Delfino Plaza in _Smash,_ with the main platform flying around the battlefield and stopping at various points. Just make sure you stay out of the way of the boulder barreling down the hill, and don't get hit by any of the obstacles.
*Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion:* Occasionally, fog envelops the stage and transitions the fighters to one of the Specimen Rooms. There, they will have to run from the monster roaming said area to avoid an instant KO. To compensate, the specimens are slow.
*Totally Accurate Battlefield from TABS:* This one's admittedly a bit tricky, since it's thematically similar to Rock of Ages' stage. A battle would obviously be unfolding in the background, but it would probably look even more ridiculous than Rock of Ages. The soldiers all flop around and wave their weapons like they've never used arms before, and the cavalry horses are somehow even derpier.
*EDIT:* Also, I'm a bit surprised Beatrix LeBeau from _Slime Rancher_ is nowhere to be found in this video. Oh well, there's always DLC! ; )
Another great video, loved all of your ideas so I tried to come up with some of my own.
Characters
Dust (Dust an Elysian Tale) - His main attacks would use his swords but he would call for Fidget's help for his specials (Except up-special it would be his Dust Storm ability) and his super would combine his Dust Storm with Fidget's abilities
Jacket (Hotline Miami) - A not as complicated version of the Beheaded. He would be able to pick up 3 types of weapons: Melee, Firearms and Throwing. All melee weapon would deal the same damage but would have diffrent range and speed (You would also be able to throw them to stun someone). Firearms take the longest to find and would dissapear after you run out of ammo but they have good range and damage. Throwing would be found the quickest but the only thing you can do with them is throw. And finaly for his super he would put on Tony (Tiger mask), rush forward and start doing some executions on the people he hit.
Terrarian (Terraria) - He would be able to change between the 4 classes from the game (Melee, Ranged, Mage, Summoner) to change his normal attacks and specials (Except for his up-special which would always be wings)
Assists
The Pickpocket (Monaco) - He and his monkey would run around the stage while picking up items and then give them to you
Rambro (Broforce) - Runs around the stage shooting everyone or stabing tthem if they get to close, before he dissaperes he would throw out a granade and flex
Stages
Antichamber (Antichamber) - Just as the game, the stage would be designed to confuse everyone with stuff that doesn't make sense. It would be based on a random room from the orignal and depending on the room it would have a absurd twist, for example there could be a room with a hole in the middle but falling into it wouldn't kill you, it would instead teleport you back on the stage and start to create a bridge that would cover the hole.
Flying Airplanes (Finding Paradise [A sequel to Too the Moon for those unaware]) - A simple stage consistng of a bunch of giant flying paper airplanes
Dawning of The Pants (Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers) - Based on the final battle from the game, you would be fighting on a group of floating rocks but at the same time the before mentioned battle is taking place in the backround and every now and then Tiny or Big would accidently destroy/change the arena by either cutting some of the rocks or throwing new ones in.
Items
Tiny's rocket (Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers) - Lets you fire a rocket that would attach to anything you aim it at and start pushing it.
Buddy in a box (The Binding of Isaac) - Spawns a random fammilar from the game that would work just as they do in the game.
For the people confused about this and Fraymakers...
1- No, Fraymakers was revealed waaay before this video, so Fraymakers isn't copying it.
2- It doesn't seem like the creator knew Fraymakers, since if he did, he would had pointed it out, so the inverse is also wrong.
3- The ideas of both games seem familiar, until you get into mechanics, the assists of this game (like in smash, atleast it seems so) would be items, while in Fraymakers they are really similar to Card Saga Wars (but the assists aren't randomized), which is (or so I think) the inspiration of that mechanic.
4- Fraymakers has also the difference of number of characters, being low, but it's balanced via the assists.
5- Fraymakers could be considered as an indie even, taking note that Rivals of Aether is considered one, hence it could be refferenced if this game becomes a reality.
I hope this clears some doubts about both of these games.
Suggerences for news build the rooster:
-Jojo's venture all star battle, a secuel of the classic capcom jojo arcade game but now including characters of all the parts
-Snk vs Capcom 3, its obiuosly but i wait the video
-Jump Ultimate Force Stars Vs, a figthing game based on the propities of the shonen jump but will be a tradicional figthing game like dragon ball figther z or a plataformer figther spiritual secuel of D.O.N. battle stadium(ps2) or jump ultimate stars(nds)
For a bit of an out-there pick, I'd have to say *Kaze the Rabbit* from _Kaze and the Wild Masks,_ which came out not too long ago. I could easily see her working a lot like Mega Man in _Smash_ by using the four different Wild Masks for both her special and basic attacks (claw slashes/aerial dashing with the Tiger Mask, flying with the Eagle Mask, etc.), gliding with her helicopter ears for a strong recovery, and she could have Hogo (her red spirit companion) assist her with attacks and helping defend her with his shields.
I think it's worth noting that there's an indie platform fighter called Fraymakers by the Super Smash Flash 2 devs. It has a relatively small main cast, but lots of other characters are represented by MVC style assists. It also has cool stuff like airdashing and rollback netcode. Its really cool and just finished it's KS campaign, check it out if you're interested.
Also, it's gonna have mod tools.

I know Thorgi knows about Fraymakers and just wanted to throw together his own roster, but as is mentioned elsewhere in the comments, it really feels like there should have been one knod to it at the beginning or end. It's too close to what's being proposed here.

How would Shantae be a hard choice?! She is literally the original indie. Undertale, Cuphead, Shovel Knight, Among Us, Fnaf, Hallow Knight, Ori, and Fall guys are all extremely popular indie games. I’m just glad to see her here. Thank you.
Shantae could be considered non-indie nowadays due to WayForward having 100 employees, however she is often considered indie

16:17 maybe the specter gimmick could be balanced by having it only manifest once the Knight fully respawns, to simulate the journey it takes you to get to said specter. Maybe have the place on the stage where the Knight got knocked out would have a dark orb where the specter would come out to telegraph where it will come from.

The demonic entity from Inscryption appears in the background, and prepares to make a Death Card. His camera flashes, and a random opponent gets turned into a card that acts as an item. You could easily throw this card off the stage, but you could also attack it until it runs out of hit points, giving you a massive power boost, as if you absorbed your opponent's soul.
Assist: Ayano Aishi (Yandere Simulator)
She's similar to the Lyn Assist Trophy, delivering a devastating attack that's almost always an instant KO. The catch is that she walks immensely slow. However, unlike other assists, she won't disappear until she attacks someone. A skilled player could launch her off the stage before she manages to stab them, but good freakin' luck. Also, if she attacks you from behind, you take double damage.
Assist: Sakuya Izayoi (Touhou)
The maid of the Scarlet Mansion stops time, then unleashes a storm of throwing knives. Pretty basic, but what matters is that she's a JoJo reference.
Assist: Wobblers (Totally Accurate Battle Simulator)
TABS is a parody of strategy games such as Total War, so this Assist would be similar to the Advance Wars Assist from SSBB (the best Smash game, fight me). A squad of Wobblers, or Peasants, or Halflings, whatever, show up, then spread out and attack players. There's also a random chance of spawning a Mammoth, or a Super Boxer. You know, since TABS is a parody of strategy games, and the developers of that game also made a parody of battle royale (TABG), and a parody of survival horror (TABZ), I kinda want Landfall to make a Totally Accurate Battle Smash.
If we are avoiding controversial and hard to work with, developers, I think yansim is out of the question

I gotta say, I would have LOVED to see a Touhou fighter, probably Flandre Scarlet, since I believe she's probably the most iconic.
She has wings for recovery (and maybe attacks), a weapon to do physical attacks with, and bullet hell for her specials and ultimate.
Sure, you could pick one of the protagonists, but Flandre Scarlet and her theme are iconic.
honestly touhou has way too many iconic characters that could fit. hell there are several touhou fighting games (both official and unofficial, thanks to zun being prettty relaxed about people using his characters)
For a Touhou character, the only correct answers are the two protagonists, Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame. The former appears on the title screen (and boxart) of every game, the latter tends to be the icon for the executables.
Kinda sad Gunvolt isn't in there, but that's still cool!
Gunvolt should be DLC. I mean, the moveset is easy enough, and as an Echo, Copen.
Basic attacks are shooting bolts, which can be charged, but won't do much damage. They Tag (like Inklings ink attacks, but no refill) and that's where Specials come in. Specials usually only brings out Flashfield, but if a character is Tagged, they'll take escalating damage. Final Smash is a screen blasting Max Luxcalibers.
Copen, however, Tags by Dashing into characters, doing damage. He's more physical, and Lola helps with long range. His dash can push characters around, too, but only Lightweights. Final smash is his Attack from his ASG2, Star Shredder (a screen clearer, like Max Luxcaliber)

@@matthewwilliams8267 I was thinking more Voltaic Chain for the Final Smash (kinda like Bowser Jr.'s, but more) and Luxcalibur being a Forward Special, Down Special being his weaker heal to compensate his low damage output, and Up Special being the Crash Bolt (kinda like Pikachu's Thunderbolt).
Also, Kirin (I think is her name) could be another Echo Fighter to promote the new game that'll come out in the future!
@@olivierdubreuil-gagnon2201 how about Down Special recharges and heals, Forward and Back specials are Luxcaliber (back, dash or grab could also use Crashbolt), Up special is Flashfield (which slows descent).
His Aerial Specials use his Flash Step, with Up having a double jump?

A few more assist suggestions:
Specimen 3 (Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion): falls from the top of the stage and quickly roams around the floor dealing decent damage. If the player is above a certain amount of health, recreates jumpscare.
The Narrator (Stanley Parable): when summoned, the voice starts playing and every so often reacts to an input from the player who summoned it.
Spider (Limbo): everything turns black and white. The spider hides off of furthest ledge of the stage and strikes players who get close. If leg is attacked, starts to chase.
Shopkeeper (Spelunky): An powerful item appears somewhere on the stage. If it is picked up, the shopkeeper appears and starts quickly chasing and shooting the player who did until they die.
Build the Roster: Avatar The Last Air Bender fighting game!
I can't help it! Avatar is one of those franchise I can't help but look at and wonder "Why isn't there a fighting game for this?"
It would be so neat to have an expanded version of the pro-bending fights from Korra's game.
I have thought about it but sadly decided it would be completely projectile based and most would not like this. Nobody with bending ever fights up close almost ever

Except for sans. His boss fight is great, but it’s also a gimmick. He is supposed to be the weakest monster in the underground. his stats are 1. He would be better as an assist.
The other option would be having Frisk, but their whole schtick is....you know, not fighting.
I think Papyrus would be a better pick, if not for his moveset, just his personality
I’ve seen BrawlFan1 make a Sans moveset justifiable by adding Papyrus and having Papyrus fight but if he takes too much damage, he dies and Sans joins in his place.

In my own opinion I think Sans is a wasted choice when it comes to undertale reps, the main character Frisk has a much wider arsenal and more potential for a moveset then the overused dead meme skeleton. Frisk has more weapons and items to spare than Sans has puns, plus more potential for a Super move.
Sans can also serve as a very powerful assist.

A great roster for sure.
For any DLC, 12 characters I think would be unique and fun:
1. V1 from Ultrakill - would require a little toning down but a fast based fighter with a plethora of guns would be a lot of fun.
2. Castle Crashers - any of the main 4 would do. Honestly should’ve been in the main roster.
3. Jacket from Hotline Miami - again, would need toning down but plenty of potential for a fun and unique fighter.
4. The Scout from Deep Rock Galactic - DRG is a very popular game that should be included, and the Scout is typically front and centre, though any of the dwarfs would do fine. They could be a sort-of summoner type character, using special moves to bring out the other classes.
5. The Batter (OFF) - I feel like RPG maker games need representation and The Batter would certainly work well and feel unique
6. Brad Armstrong (LISA) - similarly, Brad Armstrong would work just as well and be just as unique.
7. Peppino from Pizza Tower - almost certainly would be on the roster if this video was made today.
8. The Fish from Nuclear Throne - a personal favourite, I feel bullet hell roguelikes needs some representation and I just think the Fish is cool.
9. ToeJam and Earl - yes, they do count as indie due to no longer being owned by SEGA. Would provide a fun duo character to the roster.
10. “The Protagonist” from Disco Elysium - an oddball pick but certainly one I feel has a lot of potential for a unique move set.

12. Reimu from the Touhou series
How about Build the Roster for a Jojo fighting game? Yeah we already got 3 of those, but some people thought they're heavily biased on Stardust Crusaders, leaving the other parts with just their main characters and main villains, without any of the minor villains with interesting moveset potentials. I'd like to see your take on a Jojo roster, given you're familiar with it of course.
