So who would y'all wanna see in a Sonic fighting game and how would you have them play? This is probably gonna be my last video this side of christmas but i'm hoping to squeeze on more out before the new year. My next video i have planned isn't a Sonic or Fighting Game video though.
Cool video. But maybe for your next, next video (or whenever), you can revisit this and just go wild with the roster. Just have extra fun, like say that Sally would be puppet fighter with Nicole, or Emerl/Gemerl is a composite fighter or that the Avatar from Sonic Forces returns as a stance-change fighter (switching between guns mid-battle).
I mean what him throwing Starline around like a ragdoll was cool as hell, but I doubt he could do the same to say Vector without any mechanical assistance. XD
How could you possibly forget Unnamed Echidna #532 from the Archie comics? He was such a great character, created by our lord and saviour: Pen Kinders!
I would honestly kinda dig Sage. She could probably have a similar gimmick to Nier in Granblue Rising. She has some big special inputs courtesy of pulling a Bayonetta and partially summoning replicas of the Titans. Big punches via Giganto, a missile attack from Wyvern, using Knight's shield as something akin to Inquisitor's Burning Wheel from DNF Duel, whacking them around with a miniature Knight sword in her hand, that kinda cool stuff. She'd also be a somewhat floaty character due to her naturally being able to fly. However, she has limited stocks that are used up whenever she combos one Titan move into another, and once she uses them up, she loses access to the Titans and is limited to her somewhat stubby normals and a few less insane specials, like a charge-input beam/fireball. She would be _the_ nastiest zoner in the game, but similarly to Silver, you're forced to not always be in that mode. That's just the first idea that came to mind though. There could be _a lot_ done with Sage.
I think Eggman could be perfect for a Summoner Archetype instead. He still pilots his little mecha of course, but his moves all summon a different type of Badnik or machine he used in the past. His Ultimate then being either the "Egg Dragoon", or a laser from his "Death Egg" spaceship.
Actually this is one of the better fan rosters I've seen. Kudos to you. I do think *Sage* deserves to be included though, and have her be a "minion" archetype, kinda like how Jack-O works. Plus that brings the post-S1 roster to a nice round 20.
Honestly, I think Sage could be a decent Puppet Master character: giving her limited control over the titans, she could use them for move sets and supers. Her level 3 could even be taking over the supreme Titan and firing in energy beam
i feel like emerl could've been a better pick as the composite fighter since thats his whole thing as a character and he was already kinda in a fighting game
I've made my own roster concept actually, though I may or may not have gone overboard myself with 22 base game characters and 32 with DLC. I just thought that with a cast as diverse as Sonic's, it'd feel wrong to leave characters out (I say as I left Chaos and Infinite out... I have my reasons). I also kinda separated the 22 base game characters into the starting roster and the unlockables, characters who could be unlocked through Arcade Mode, whether it be completing one of the base 10's story, all of their story, or no-hitting a story. Obviously, the base roster had Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Espio, Shadow, and Cream, but I did want to include Team Hooligan, since Fighters is how they became popular. So I decided to just make the story focus around the Phantom Ruby so Classic timeline characters could come in. Then for unlockables, you had the ones who were unlocked through beating a specific characters Arcade Mode, the bosses Metal and Eggman (through Sonic and Tails' respectively), Mighty through Knuckles, Big through Amy, Vector (and kinda Charmy) through Espio, Trip through Fang, Jet through Bean (I know, but it was the best I had ;-;), Honey through Bark, Rouge through Shadow, and Gemerl through Cream. There's also the reward for beating everyone's stories (in the base roster) being Classic Sonic who keeps his exact moveset from the original Sonic the Fighters and Omega would be the reward for perfectly going through at least one Arcade Mode. As for DLC, they'd come in packs. 2 characters and three arenas, two of them tieing into the characters and 1 being a returning StF stage. They'd each follow a specific pattern, so Pack 1 is from the games, 2 is IDW, 3 is Prime (since that's canon), 4 is Spinoff Bots, and 5 is other Sega IPs. So yeah, 1 would be Silver and Blaze, 2 would be Tangle and Whisper, 3 would be Nine and Knuckles the Dread (the pirate one), 4 would be Metal Knuckles and Chaos Gamma from Battle, and 5 would be Nights and Axel Stone. Pretty wild picks, especially for the last 2 packs, but I think if they wanted to, Sonic Team could do it. That's honestly not even everything I have on that roster concept tbh, as I've flat out just went on to imagining up the whole game on Google Docs, but I thought I'd at least share my big roster that I've come up with.
Mine also had 32! I tried to have half villains half heroes roster so i had plenty of weird choices to say the least (ex. Chaos Gamma instead of Gamma, Djinn, Black knight/merlina, and im not sure if i even put Void from Shuffle lmao)
I know you HEAVILY focused on Guilty Gear Strive as your basis for this one FG, but I kinda do a Sonic fighting game roster every other month now lmao. I feel like the ideal game to build this off from would be Dragon Ball FighterZ WITH A LITTLE BIT of The King of Fighters thrown in when it comes to presentation. Same massive roster as both games, 3v3 options so you can also pull in teams, etc. Base roster would ideally feature the four teams from Heroes (Sonic, Tails, Knux, Amy, Cream with Cheese, Big, Espio, Vector, Charmy, Shadow, Rouge and Omega), plus Silver, Blaze and Gemerl as one team, and another team being made of Metal, Eggman and Sage, plus Mecha Sonic as a pre-order bonus/final boss in the story mode. DLC seasons be treated more like KoF, with the first season being four teams of three, and the others being single characters. For the DLC teams I considered Team Hooligan, the Babylon Rogues, a team of Mighty, Ray and Trip, and one of Mephiles, Infinite and Zavok (using the D6 in his moveset like Ginyu in DBFZ does with the Ginyu Force). Seasons 2 and 3 would be a bit more wild, pulling in Sonic forms such as the Werehog, Excalibur and Classic Sonic and other single characters like Chaos, Honey, Gamma, the Heavy King, Sticks, Mecha Knuckles, and FINALLY, IDW characters in the form of Tangle, Whisper, Surge and Kit. Yeah, I overdid it and SEGA would realistically never do a roster this large...unless Arc System Works was working on it (god do I wish...) and had all the Sonic money at their disposal. But hey, I like to go big a lot, kek. Still, thanks for being one of the only people to actually make a video about this on the internet, I really loved seeing your take and I wish others did this more often. (Bonus: I originally made a picture with all the characters I mentioned but I added an extra slot by chance, so uh...congrats to the 2-3 Mimic the Octopus fans, this was your lucky day)
Seeing as Tangle wasn't just in Speed Battle, but also Frontiers (and unlike Sticks, wasn't even "dub exclusive"), she seems perfect for a roster. Although I wonder who she'll be voiced by.
oh i absolutely adore this roster, thank you for keeping all my favorite boys!! Was a bit worried when there was no IDW rep, but came in clutch at the end Fantastic work my man :)
Bro this is a so great video! I've seen some people putting together a roster and archetypes for a Sonic fighting game but so far you've done the best job in my opinion. Of course the roster may depend on the plot and so on but I liked all your choices and the ideas for the archetypes which in my opinion perfectly match each character as do the movesets, while watching the video I was imagining some moves and references that could be cool to see in some characters besides mechanics like Speed type characters being able to jump on walls and on opponents' heads, Fly type characters being able to do a super jump and Power type characters having an easier time breaking the opponent's defense, for example Sonic could fire the Sonic Boom and Sonic Wave as projectiles like Guile and Nash or Geese and Rock Howard with the Reppuken, a Rising Tackle or even Robert Garcia's Gen'ei Kyaku (his stylish barrage of kicks) in addition to a dash like Chris and some chain combos with varied routes, Knuckles could have a special move similar to Buster Wolf and another like the Power Geyser where he creates eruptions when hitting the ground like in Sonic Heroes, these are just a few examples so the comment doesn't get too long, but you get the idea. This looks so great that I want to see a game like this become a reality, PLEASE SEGA, JUST LOCK IN! If you do this, my soul is yours!
Sage summoning walls of cyber energy that move across the screen and slowly fills a bar like MODOK from MvC3 would be cool. Also having her attacks do more damage, staring off weak and slowly getting stronger until they are quite strong, slowing the target down so that she can snowball hard. And her super does EXTREME amounts of damage but restarts her back to base and is very laggy giving Rushdowns and others a chance to get in. Also imagine if the game was a 3v3 type fighting game.
Imagine a fighting sonic game with this roster and sonic smackdown roster combined, with extra characters like surge, classic sonic, mephiles, scourge, sticks, sally, mighty, honey, etc.
Great video! You basically had the exact same thought process as me for the base roster and playstyle. I think the only difference is that I would Vector fall under the assist type character like say Android 18 in DBFZ rather than being a puppet character. Also my surprise pick for the dlc would probably be Sticks. She was similarly namedropped in Frontiers and I think her pre-round dialogue would be absolutely hilarious + plus she was playable in one of the Olympic games so it's not that outlandish! I also think Sage would make a lot of since as a character too because of Frontiers' recency. Just imagining a super where she pilots Supreme and shoots you with its gun, it'd be super cool. Hopefully someday we'll be able to see a proper Sonic fighting game in the future!
a couple of moths ago i had an idea for a sonic fighting game, and in my idea i had vector and charmy as a duo and espio as a solo fighter. i guess it was such a good idea that we both thought of it
Honestly, if anyone should be the clone/composite character it should be Mephiles. Imagine him as an arcade mode sub boss which starts with a cutscene where the sceptar of darkness appears in front of your character for half a second, falls to the ground and breaks, takes your shadow and takes the form of your character (kinda like the mirror matches in STF lol) Great work on the video 👍
Not gonna lie, you got each character down PERFECTLY! You knew what each character would fight like and how their styles mesh into an "even" playing field! I love the idea of Cream using Cheese for a majority of the game, but using an Install Super to summon Gemerl to replace Cheese as the puppet and getting bigger and longer reaching attacks! I ws also wondering if the Super Sonic forms SHOULD be Installs or if they should be using a sort of Dragon Ball gauge like in Dragon Ball FighterZ except with Chaos Emeralds, but I think that Installs would be a bit more satisfying. (In my personal opinion) I also think that an exclusive "Game Only" character would be cool! Like, a character that only appears in the fighting game, being almost integral to the story! And i know this sounds wild, but I'm thinking of a character that you would literally NEVER see coming.. ... "Who are you?! Are you Sonic or Shadow?" ... "SHADIC!" THATS RIGHT! I want to see Shadic! Yes I'm biased and love ChakraX's Nazo Unleashed as well the concept of Fusion done EPICLY!! So I think that Shadic would be a cool addition and would be a good way for SEGA to include fusion (which Ian Flynn has stated he wanted to do but SEGA is woried about copyright) without making himentirely canon since it would be a one time thing! As for what Shadic would be? Well he would obviously be a Shoto Rushdown, combining both Shadow and Sonic's moves while also giving him a bunch of air mobility with his mastery over Chaos Energy and his increased speed! He would be similar to SSJ4 Gogeta, in which he has a taunt mechanic (he has both Sonic and Shadow's arrogance after all) being able to increase the power of his moves, having him turn into SUPER SHADIC for specific attacks until he reaches Level 7, where he now gains access to a BUSTED but short Install: HYPER SHADIC! Where he punishes the enemy for letting him get to this level of strength ny becoming completely invicible! (Though he can still be comboed he will NOT take any damage. It'll just be a stall to time out his Hyper Form since him getting hit in this form doesn't delayed the timer) He will enter Turbo Mode and be able to cancel any of his Light, Medium, or Special Attacks into anything else that isn't Heavy or another Special Attack. His Super while in this form will be an instant kill (that has a decently long start up) called "Final Chaos Sonic" where they absorb every Ring in their Hyper Form to create a focused beam of Chaos Energy! Immediately returning them to their base form. Well, I hope you enjoyed my essay! GREAT VIDEO!! 😅
A lot of 2D fighting games have that mode where it shows a what if scenario where the character you’re using beats the main villain of the story. I would love to see you make a video of the story and character endings you would write
As someone who likes fighting games, likes Sonic, and is learning Game Developing and Balancing characters in a fighting sense; I do like the idea of a Sonic Fighting game, and I've loved the roster! The only one I don't agree being included is literally charmie, but I can see why it is added and I can understand all the others as well. But, I have one single criticism, and I'd even like to see a video done on such; I do think a PLATFORM-FIGHTING game for the Sonic Series would be better. The whole series developed around platforming, So I think such a thing isn't far fetched, and would allow a more variety of players to join in, due to its more "casual" side as a "party-game". Or, I would take an approach more akin to DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ, which has a very interesting graps onto casual players and how its mechanics works. Most characters have at least 2 to 3 moves that are simple quarter circles, and three versions of those moves, with the third exclusive being some kind of beam attack. In such an instance for example, I could see Sonic as a Rushdown using "Sonic Wind" as a Beam. At the same time, I could see Chaos Spear being used as a multi-projectile like Vegetto's Banshee Blast. E-123 OMEGA could be similar to how Android 16 is, he can annoy you with projectiles and punish if you get close recklessly with his grabs. I can definitely see Jet's 'beam' attack be an exclusive mechanic that allows him to close up on the opponent and ignores projectiles. Cream as a puppet character could have Cheese being able to go past Beam attacks, and this way you'd need to be quite careful when using them, since they'd have quite the long recovery. There are so many other ideas that would be fun to implement in a fighting game that works similarly to FighterZ, specially if you consider the Tag-Team mechanic. Imagine a team of Sonic, Shadow & Blaze, and you can just switch between their installs. It would be terrifying! At the same time, a team of Eggman, Metal Sonic & Infinite would be quite the ride too. For either a standard-fighting game or a tag-team fighting game (I think that's how its called?), the characters could have more types of supers, again taking inspiration from FighterZ, there's two different buttons which serve for Super Moves, the normal one and the Reversal Super. For example, I could see Sonic's Reversal being the install, but his standard one being a Phantom Rush. For Shadow, I could see the reversal being the install, the standard being the Chaos Blast. That paired with the fact that they could have a Level 1 and a Level 1 reversal, Sonic's Parry Mechanic could exactly be a Reversal Lv 1, you'd wouldn't be able to use it all the time, and needed to be careful with your meter management. In the end, the idea is already fun as it is, I'm just thinking on ways how to make it even more fun lolz. And well, the Sonic Franchise was quite inspired by Dragon Ball, so hey, why not take an inspiration from their Fighting Game too? I think it would be awesome to see it.
Using this roster I would have each character (plus dlc) get 1 stage they feature in like most fighting games. I will also be adding some extra characters that would make sense in this. Sonic- City Escape (Not green hill but this is probably the 2nd most iconic sonic stage so this makes sense) Tails- Emerald Hill (not green hill or chemical plant but this still is pretty logical, I’m trying to add stages that haven’t returned much) Knuckles- Hidden Palace (stage should be the area where sonic and knuckles first fought near that mural) Amy- Collision chaos Shadow- White jungle Rouge- Dry lagoon Omega- I’m a bit unsure but I think final fortress fits Cream- music park cuz that’s my favorite sonic advance 2 stage Big- twinkle park Espio- Mushroom hill because that was his sonic the fighters stage Vector and charmy- seaside hill Silver- Kingdom valley Blaze- night carnival Eggman- Death egg Metal sonic- This is gonna be a weird choice but I would say because he has the whole theme of copying your character, I think you should fight him in the same stage you come from. Chaos- station square (have it be rainy) Tangle- Sunset heights Jet- metal city Infinite- Metropolis (sonic forces one) I think that’s it for all the characters you mentioned, now for some of my picks Whisper (maybe a grappler because of her grapple?)- stage should be planet wisp due to her wispon abilities Sage- unsure but maybe the same as silvers?- stage should be Kronos island and you can see all the titans in the background. Sticks- because she’s apparently canon now have her be in this as a rush down due to her seeming aggressive and hot headed. But doesn’t seem super strong like knuckles- stage should be that weird village from sonic boom. Fang- he should be zoner using lots of gun attacks- his stage is 100% mirage saloon for obvious reasons Trip- because we haven’t seen much of her, I’m unsure on what type of fighter she could be but I guess golden capital will be her stage because it’s the most original. Gamma- zoner as well and he should have final egg as his stage Zavok- he seems either a combo grappler or a big Body type, he should have sky road be his stage I’m not adding the rest of the deadly six for obvious reasons I’ll add more stuff if I think of new ideas
If I got to play whisper in a sonic fighting game where she has to resource manage wisp forms as a ranged character with a couple of good neutrals I’d be in heaven
My ideas for DLC Pack for your Sonic Fighting Game :) Arrival of Starline (A Free Story Mode DLC Pack) comes with Dr. Starline and Trip the Stargazer as free DLC fighters Good VS Evil (DLC Pack 2) comes with Whisper the Wolf, Sticks the Badger, Mighty the Armadillo, Ray the Flying Squirell, Sage, Surge the Tenrac and Scourge the Hedgehog as DLC fighters New Looks, New Battles (A Free Sonic Movie-Themed DLC Pack) comes with Agent Stone and Rachel as free DLC fighters, and free movie costumes for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman A MultiVersal Meeting (A Free Sonic Prime-Themed DLC Pack) comes with Nine and Rusty Rose as free DLC fighters, and free Prime costumes for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Eggman and Metal Sonic
With Eggman, I feel like it'd be cool for him to summon some Badniks as well. If the game allowed partners, maybe you could have exclusive supers depending on who's on your team, like the ones from Sonic Heroes. Oh yeah, and I would probably add at least one returning character from Fighters and Sticks for DLC 2.
An idea I have is that Honey herself could be a highlight character of a new Sonic fighting game as a way to smoothly & appropriately revive her into the franchise without being forced since she debuted in a Sonic fighting game to begin with. I find her to be a cool & interesting character and I LOVE her design
really cool video, i actually had an idea for a sonic fighting game roster with archetypes like this too lol super agree with a lot of the archetypes in here, and i think a lot of them are cool ideas i hadnt thought of (silver being an asuka r# stance character is hype) i think espio could be something cooler like fukua from skullgirls, where she controls shadow clones of herself similar to xrd bedman's deja vu specials. idk what youd call this archetype though but it's a cool gimmick espio could have also idk if i agree with eggman being a grappler, i think he would actually make more sense as a zoner commanding his mechs to come in and fight for him i.e. peacock from skullgirls (i love skullgirls so theres going to be a lot of examples from that game) i think he fits the role more than tails, and tails could be a flight movement type character similar to painwheel from skullgirls but he could also have like an RNG item drop gimmick like faust from guilty gear. vector's archetype is kinda weak imo just kinda seems like cream's puppet archetype but charmy, i was thinking he could be more like a tanky high damage character i.e. big band from skullgirls where he has a shit ton of armored moves and very strong reversals, but yeah for the most part this is actually a cool list i kinda do wish there were more characters especially since sonic is known for having a ton of characters in the franchise but being so horribly underutilized, a fighting game is the perfect way to bring them back in one fell swoop without it being too forced or overbearing (an rpg would work too but they'll never do that again after chronicles lmao)
Wait so I have a Matchup question. So Matchup Charts are one of the most important things when scaling a character so for instance if Blaze and Chaos go against each other, would Chaos just squash out all of Blaze’s moves or would any move that collides would just disappear with no real winner? Genuinely curious
Loved the video! For Infinite, I think you might wanna look at darkrai in the Pokémon fighting game. Some of his moves, switch the stage to his ‘dimension’ where his move set is boosted while they’re in the other dimension. Links in with Infinites abilities to manipulate reality
My cast would be: Sonic(Rushdown), Tails(Zoner), Knuckles(Grappler), Amy(Rushdown), Shadow(Shoto/Rushdown) No explanation needed Rouge: Sega is pushing Rouge as a main character recently with her being playable in Sonic Dream Team and her being a main character in Sonic Prime. Her being in a Sonic fighting game would be great and I feel like she would be a zoner character with her bombs and G.U.N technology. Cream(& Cheese): They had her return in Sonic Dream Team and I feel personally they’ll have her return for a new game. I think she herself would be a zoner and her super move could have you play as Cheese and he would 100% be a rushdown, or even have him be a projectile. Her being a puppet type seems great as well, but i’m more familiar with the rushdown and zoner character types. Espio, Vector, and Charmy: Having one without the other two seems wrong(look at Team Sonic Racing). Espio would be a rushdown, Vector a grappler, and Charmy a zoner/rushdown. Eggman: You always need a villain character in a fighting game and Eggman is a no brainer for his role. He could be both a zoner and a grappler. Blaze: She has been absent in recent games and I’d love her to join a fighting game with her experience and mobility. She would be a shoto style character. Silver: Silver has also been absent in recent games and he is a fan favorite character like Blaze. Sega would not miss these two characters if they would make a fighting game. He would be a stance/zoner character. Metal Sonic: Metal would a good choice for a fighting game with his fighting experience, speed and mobility. I agree with him being a composite character type. Finally: Big and Froggy A puppet character type, Big and Froggy would be a great combo in a fighting game with Bigs ridiculous strength and Froggys mobility. I can picture Froggy jumping on the opponent as a distraction while Big runs up for a combo. Those are my roster picks!
As much as i like the IDW characters, I find them to be pretty finite as far as game potential goes. (especially with how the company keeps losing IPs like socks in the laundry -_-) and I always had a gripe with SEGA relying on outside media to push narrative or lore exposition for the games but all in all I do like the ideas here and realistically this probably would be a similar route Sonic Team would go down in terms of character roster... IF they ever decide to make another Sonic fighting game again. :') Good stuff fam!
I think it would be cool if each character got a couple different costumes or color options. Like imagine if metal sonic had a design that replaced his model with that of Neo Metal Sonic. Or if that is too complex, simply having a recolor of shadow that gives him yellow stripes to reference Shadow Android would be pretty cool. Heck, even if the only thing that changes can be closed, having Amy in her riders design would be nice
awesome video,I have neat little idea aswell I think this potential game could have a secondary game mode with complete different roster , classic mode It play exactly like the original sonic the fighters , only featuring classic version of character, as well as honey and bean and bark and fang But also new commers : trip and mighty and ray , you can put metal knuckles and tails doll aswell for 2 bonus dlc characters you get from the original dlc pack
only issue I have with this is that blazes theme isn't vela-nova, since thats been used as her theme in the games shes been in afterwards if I remember correctly. also the music interrupt for her should be wrapped in black, that would go IMMENSELY hard. otherwise, absolutely agree on all of these! ESPECIALLY tangle, shes my favorite of the comic characters and probably my second favorite sonic character besides blaze
I could see Vector's home stage having Wanted posters and Missing Posters in the background with the characters from Sonic The FIghters that aren't playable in this game.
Some more ideas; I think you missed a key and I feel guaranteed character, or even pair of characters, that being an entirely new one made for the game. Sonic has a tradition of introducing new furry friends in almost every new game, even spin offs, and I feel this would occur here. This character would be somehow tied to whatever new world building gimmick the game’s story would revolve around as is typically the case in other sonic character debuts. They could be the new sidekick, the villain, or as I suggested earlier, we could get two characters to fulfil both roles! Tikal could be a good pick, I imagine her using some Druidic style powers in defensive ways to play a war of attrition, with less damage but more lasting power. Self healing, debuffing effects, but frail if you get your hits in on her. I feel this would capture her pacifism best in a fighting game. Gamma would only appear in a non-canon context, not in the story etc (unless the story somehow accounts for his appearance). He’s been contrasted to Omega as more of an assassin, and his focus on gun play would make him a good ranged character. I also don’t see many joke character entries, and I thought a generic GUN robot would be such a wildcard pick for a character. If we wanted to make them more impactful, we could have the character talk in pre game dialogue through a speaker. Whose voice is it? The GUN commander! He’s piloting the robot through remote control, personally invested in whatever’s happening in the story but well aware that he’s not capable of getting stuck into the fray. Gameplay wise, GUN robot could also focus on ranged zoning, but as an added bonus, we could play on the “threat level” trope, and have the Commander call in bigger mechs over time as the threat level escalates in an attempt to end the fight, working all the way up to a Big Dog mech! This might be the wackiest idea I have but I think it works. I could sit here and talk about even more characters, but that would take all day. Would love to have seen you talk about stages and where each character would call home, however! Maybe you should expand on this video with another one.
I'd so do alternate continuities and Classic if they were on the table, but can see the reasoning given sega's mindset. I can also imagine some DBFZ kinda thing with alternate Sonics such as Werehog or Excalibur. I honestly wouldn't mind Zavok so long as he has a super doing a Captain Storm kind of move with the Six. Can also imagine the other Rogues would cameo in Jet's moveset. My main picks for alt continuity reps are most of the Knothole team, Boom Sonic, Sticks, Robotnik Prime, the AOSTH Badniks, Scourge, Fleetway Super Sonic, and the SU siblings. I mean there's loads more, but I kind of want to stick to those.
I'll admit, the ones that throw me off are Silver and Eggman. Mostly Silver, because I don't know how you take a guy who's main power is grabbing things with his mind and make him a Stance fighter. He has Ranged Grappler written all over him! If anything, the Psychokinetic power mechanic you described fits Shadow way more, since that kind of power-up that leaves him vulnerable afterwards is genuinely something he has (Chaos Boost, Hero/Dark form, Chaos Shadow; whatever you wanna call it). Eggman, I suppose, *can* be a Grappler, but he's got a lot more potential options. If anything, Summoner - the one archetype missing from this roster - fits Eggman best, using specials to fill the screen with Badnik minions to shield, distract, and attack with. Stance could honestly work better for him than Silver, too, if his mech had some kind of variable weapon system he could use to switch up his fighting style on the fly. With the freedom to design an original mech for this game, the possibilities are honestly endless, so I guess Grappler doesn't feel *wrong,* or anything. I just think there's better options for a someone who's brain is his greatest weapon than making him fight like a wrestler. I feel like - on the more realistic side of things - Zavok would also be a good pick for this roster. Sure, he's not exactly anyone's favorite character, but he's established his place as a recurring antagonist, and even uses some pretty stylish fighting moves in his first boss fight in Lost World that would fit really well, for this concept. He'd also be a really good fit for a Summoner, tagging in the other members of the Deadly Six a la FighterZ Ginyu.
Look all I’m going to say is, with the Phantom Ruby, Infinite could be a Shang Tsung style character! Where he has his own crazy move set, but he can transform into the other characters and use their moves.
For tails I would expect him to be a setplay zoner you place a trap and then when hit by a projectile they would activate or he could have a hold and release method (negative edge) to make them spring of.
The list is outstanding, but there are 2 things I would change/add. It's just my opinion. • Shadow could take off his Inhibitor Rings instead of going Super not only to make a cool reference to 06/Sonic X but also to give Sonic the only Super Form. • Rouge could have an ability that allows her to use her charm to rizz up the opponent and make him immobile for a second. Since the ability is kinda OP, it would be cooler if she could only use the ability if all her teammates are down to allow a comeback. Also, I REALLY wanted for Cream to be a top tier character, it would've been so funny lol.
I would argue jet would use gravity control for his ultimate super, and be more of a summon fighter by having jet and storm be called out to do attacks. Like storm creating a board trap or wave planting a bomb on the opponent
Because I’m delusional, I’ll give this nonexistent game a title: Sonic Slam! If I were to play I’d have quite a few interchangeable mains, I love the roster construction here 🤩
Kinda surprised by the lack of Gemerl here. Given each spinoff has had at least a little story, having him there would justify Cream's inclusion more from a lore-perspective.
Here’s the roster I would want if Sega teamed up with Arc System Works to make a Sonic fighting game. 24 characters in the base roster, first DLC season will have 7 characters. Fair warning, this roster might get a bit weird and obscure: *Base Roster* Sonic Tails Knuckles Amy Blaze The Chaotix Silver Shadow Metal Sonic Chaos 0 Mephiles Zavok Erazor Djinn King Arthur Merlina Rouge Omega Classic Sonic Cream Big Dr Eggman Jet Black Doom Infinite *DLC Season 1* Movie Sonic The Rookie Gamma Sonic the Werehog Chip (Light Gaia) Sticks The Wisps
Overall, this was a good roster with nice archetypes for the characters. I think Tikal and Black Doom are deserving of DLC spots at least. I imagine Black Doom playing like Shuma-Gorath from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3; the strange body type would be cool to see in battle.
@@linkthepringlesman3951 Honestly forgot about that singularly used image at the beginning of the video by the end of it. The main reason for the comment was to go to how extremely similar (nearly exactly identical) his ideas lined up with that of the game. He played his ideas through as though they were completely his own, making it seem as though he had not experienced the game. It is still entirely possible that he did blindly use the image as a generic "Sonic fighting game" stock image search without having experienced the game himself.
Honestly ive been trying to work on conceptualizing a Sonic fighting that works as like FighterZ/ MvC since I feel a party fighter that also is easier for a casual to pickup would definitely be popular (mainly off of how FighterZ and its easy to pickup system helped me get into fighting games). How to classify each character i also base it on fighterz and MvC but titling it as Speed, Brawler, and Technique types:. An Homage to both Heroes and Team Sonic Racing. Though it is just the standard charactertypes meshed down together. Theres more ive had had planned but thats too much to write lol.
Since I'm FILTHY CASUAL when it comes to fighting games, when I think about those kind of game I only think of smash bros, FighterZ and anime fighting game in general. So yeah I'm more in the fanservice side of the force. This is why for a Sonic fighting game I hope they would add (at least as dlc) characters and transformations like darkspine sonic, excalibur sonic, black doom or earaser jin as playable, as I think they would be pretty fun choices
I'd change it up slightly. Make Vector, Espio and Charmy 1 unit and make them have a swap out mechanic similar to Pokemon Trainer in Super Smash Bros and each character would play differently. Make Tangle as part of the base roster in a tag with Whisper and we now have 1 slot for DLC. Its between either Sage or Surge as I feel those 2 should be in more material
Ok imagine chip but he plays as a smaller gaia temple golem, which can be destroyed and reformed in the fight Or its like a phoenix wright MVC thing where he has to work to it
So who would y'all wanna see in a Sonic fighting game and how would you have them play? This is probably gonna be my last video this side of christmas but i'm hoping to squeeze on more out before the new year. My next video i have planned isn't a Sonic or Fighting Game video though.
Emrel could basically be the same as he is in sonic battle where he has a skill tree and you can unlock others attacks
Honestly I'd like to see Mecha sonic
Mephilis 100%
I mean Infinite did not have a overwhelming defeat/death because the guy is still alive
I don’t think Eggman needs a mech to be a grappler. Look what he did to Starline...
But Starline was very weak and had no weapons. Characters like Sonic and Shadow are the exact opposite and would absolutely trash Robotnik.
I mean what him throwing Starline around like a ragdoll was cool as hell, but I doubt he could do the same to say Vector without any mechanical assistance. XD
@@ramenronin15 my point exactly, though now you've given me the image of Eggman just single-handedly taking on Vector and it's brilliant
In Sonic lost world he breaks a wall of ice with his gloved hands.
😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
DLC Pass 2 with assumedly Whisper, Gamma, and Surge would probably make the fandom go crazy
Gamma dlc with a super along his brothers that'd go SICK
dlc pass 2 could realistically be Whisper, Tikal, Ray (or Mighty), Wave and maybe Fang
I only agree with Gamma, I couldn’t care less about those others
SURGE!!!! Ughhh I already want her to be in a game so bad, the community would collectively kick ASS with Surge!
@@jdaquayou heard what he said about classic characters?
How could you possibly forget Unnamed Echidna #532 from the Archie comics? He was such a great character, created by our lord and saviour: Pen Kinders!
Blasphemy, Unnamed Echidna #346 was so much more interesting.
How about you pick up a God damn book for once
@@ironpiyepic2666 what's up with you?
Omg what an original joke!! 😂 You sir have WON the internet for the day!!
@TristanLackey when dimitri has better writing then most main line character
Pretty good roster, I would even include Mecha-Sonic, the Deadly Six, Fang the Sniper, Bark the Polar Bear, Emerl, and even Werehog Sonic!!!
But fang is classic
@@sethxenofightersofficialx and werehog would never happen ,mecha is classic,so is bark .emelrl Is dead .t
delete the deadly six
Don't forget Bean bro
Infinite & Shadow mains having the most toxic interactions in the lobby
Infinte mains: IM NOT WEAK
Shadow mains: you should kill y-
I think Eggman could be perfect for a Summoner Archetype instead.
He still pilots his little mecha of course, but his moves all summon a different type of Badnik or machine he used in the past.
His Ultimate then being either the "Egg Dragoon", or a laser from his "Death Egg" spaceship.
So he'd be like Pokemon Trainer from Smash?
More like zelda. Theres not exactly a summoner in smash
I got chills from the idea of fighting a sonic in a fightign game then suddenly hearing Undefeatable holy-
Me when i have psycho meter: BEHOLD THIS IS DIVINITY
Me when i have no psycho meter: please don't im only the funny weed hedgehog
This is the Asuka experience
Although I wonder who she'll be voiced by.
classic Sonic's move set is just Sonic's move set in smash bros, he only knows spin dash anyways
oh i absolutely adore this roster, thank you for keeping all my favorite boys!!
Was a bit worried when there was no IDW rep, but came in clutch at the end
Fantastic work my man :)
Alright, I wasn't entirely sure about you and your channel, but 8:50 definitely earned you my subscription
I GENUINELY THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA END THE ROSTER WITH ORBOT AND CUBOT WITH THAT DRUMROLL. Imagine them playing like Ice Climbers!
OH MY GOD YESS
I just want a game that lets you play at the chaotix again
Honestly a really great video even though Sage got robbed. I would love to see a follow up video with your ideas for stages, modes and etc.
When you suggested Eggman as a grappler I imagined him just on his own. No robots, no mechs, just hands.
If sega looked up sonic mugen videos theyd rush to make this game real
This Video is surprisingly well made! Great job! (Keep up the good work.)
a couple of moths ago i had an idea for a sonic fighting game, and in my idea i had vector and charmy as a duo and espio as a solo fighter. i guess it was such a good idea that we both thought of it
Honestly, if anyone should be the clone/composite character it should be Mephiles. Imagine him as an arcade mode sub boss which starts with a cutscene where the sceptar of darkness appears in front of your character for half a second, falls to the ground and breaks, takes your shadow and takes the form of your character (kinda like the mirror matches in STF lol)
Great work on the video 👍
Honestly, I’m sad that you don’t have more subscribers to see this because this is amazing.
The fact the idea and wants for are in everyone's head yet your the only one willing to day it is crazy l.
Also great video btw
(In my personal opinion)
I also think that an exclusive "Game Only" character would be cool! Like, a character that only appears in the fighting game, being almost integral to the story!
And i know this sounds wild, but I'm thinking of a character that you would literally NEVER see coming..
...
"Who are you?! Are you Sonic or Shadow?"
...
"SHADIC!"
THATS RIGHT!
It'll just be a stall to time out his Hyper Form since him getting hit in this form doesn't delayed the timer)
He will enter Turbo Mode and be able to cancel any of his Light, Medium, or Special Attacks into anything else that isn't Heavy or another Special Attack.
Oh dude I would love that. I'm imagining Street Fighter 3 styled cutscenes but with Sonic characters
Ok the little vocie clips that palayed in between characters sold me lmao.
As someone who likes fighting games, likes Sonic, and is learning Game Developing and Balancing characters in a fighting sense;
I do like the idea of a Sonic Fighting game, and I've loved the roster! The only one I don't agree being included is literally charmie, but I can see why it is added and I can understand all the others as well.
But, I have one single criticism, and I'd even like to see a video done on such;
I do think a PLATFORM-FIGHTING game for the Sonic Series would be better.
Sonic- City Escape (Not green hill but this is probably the 2nd most iconic sonic stage so this makes sense)
Tails- Emerald Hill (not green hill or chemical plant but this still is pretty logical, I’m trying to add stages that haven’t returned much)
Knuckles- Hidden Palace (stage should be the area where sonic and knuckles first fought near that mural)
Amy- Collision chaos
Shadow- White jungle
Rouge- Dry lagoon
Omega- I’m a bit unsure but I think final fortress fits
Cream- music park cuz that’s my favorite sonic advance 2 stage
Big- twinkle park
Espio- Mushroom hill because that was his sonic the fighters stage
Vector and charmy- seaside hill
Silver- Kingdom valley
Blaze- night carnival
Eggman- Death egg
Metal sonic- This is gonna be a weird choice but I would say because he has the whole theme of copying your character, I think you should fight him in the same stage you come from.
Chaos- station square (have it be rainy)
Tangle- Sunset heights
Jet- metal city
Infinite- Metropolis (sonic forces one)
I think that’s it for all the characters you mentioned, now for some of my picks
Whisper (maybe a grappler because of her grapple?)- stage should be planet wisp due to her wispon abilities
Sage- unsure but maybe the same as silvers?- stage should be Kronos island and you can see all the titans in the background.
Sticks- because she’s apparently canon now have her be in this as a rush down due to her seeming aggressive and hot headed. But doesn’t seem super strong like knuckles- stage should be that weird village from sonic boom.
Fang- he should be zoner using lots of gun attacks- his stage is 100% mirage saloon for obvious reasons
Trip- because we haven’t seen much of her, I’m unsure on what type of fighter she could be but I guess golden capital will be her stage because it’s the most original.
Gamma- zoner as well and he should have final egg as his stage
Zavok- he seems either a combo grappler or a big Body type, he should have sky road be his stage
I’m not adding the rest of the deadly six for obvious reasons
I’ll add more stuff if I think of new ideas
If I got to play whisper in a sonic fighting game where she has to resource manage wisp forms as a ranged character with a couple of good neutrals I’d be in heaven
Since you like fighting games please tell me you got sf6 im mad bored bro🙏
I'll take a classic side scroller fighting game over the 100s of mugen fan games out there
My ideas for DLC Pack for your Sonic Fighting Game :)
Arrival of Starline (A Free Story Mode DLC Pack)
comes with Dr. Starline and Trip the Stargazer as free DLC fighters
Good VS Evil (DLC Pack 2)
comes with Whisper the Wolf, Sticks the Badger, Mighty the Armadillo, Ray the Flying Squirell, Sage, Surge the Tenrac and Scourge the Hedgehog as DLC fighters
New Looks, New Battles (A Free Sonic Movie-Themed DLC Pack)
comes with Agent Stone and Rachel as free DLC fighters, and free movie costumes for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman
A MultiVersal Meeting (A Free Sonic Prime-Themed DLC Pack)
comes with Nine and Rusty Rose as free DLC fighters, and free Prime costumes for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Eggman and Metal Sonic
MAKE CONTINUATION PLS!! Talk about stages, full movelists, maybe even taunts, etc.!
I find her to be a cool & interesting character and I LOVE her design
really cool video, i actually had an idea for a sonic fighting game roster with archetypes like this too lol
super agree with a lot of the archetypes in here, and i think a lot of them are cool ideas i hadnt thought of (silver being an asuka r# stance character is hype) i think espio could be something cooler like fukua from skullgirls, where she controls shadow clones of herself similar to xrd bedman's deja vu specials. idk what youd call this archetype though but it's a cool gimmick espio could have
also idk if i agree with eggman being a grappler, i think he would actually make more sense as a zoner commanding his mechs to come in and fight for him i.e. peacock from skullgirls (i love skullgirls so theres going to be a lot of examples from that game) i think he fits the role more than tails, and tails could be a flight movement type character similar to painwheel from skullgirls but he could also have like an RNG item drop gimmick like faust from guilty gear. vector's archetype is kinda weak imo just kinda seems like cream's puppet archetype but charmy, i was thinking he could be more like a tanky high damage character i.e. big band from skullgirls where he has a shit ton of armored moves and very strong reversals, but yeah for the most part this is actually a cool list i kinda do wish there were more characters especially since sonic is known for having a ton of characters in the franchise but being so horribly underutilized, a fighting game is the perfect way to bring them back in one fell swoop without it being too forced or overbearing (an rpg would work too but they'll never do that again after chronicles lmao)
Wait so I have a Matchup question. So Matchup Charts are one of the most important things when scaling a character so for instance if Blaze and Chaos go against each other, would Chaos just squash out all of Blaze’s moves or would any move that collides would just disappear with no real winner? Genuinely curious
I cant believe you dont add the goats Bomb and Heavy
I was honestly surprised when Mephiles wasn't even mentioned for this list. That could be a controversial inclusion instead of Infinite.
Loved the video! For Infinite, I think you might wanna look at darkrai in the Pokémon fighting game. Some of his moves, switch the stage to his ‘dimension’ where his move set is boosted while they’re in the other dimension. Links in with Infinites abilities to manipulate reality
My cast would be:
Sonic(Rushdown), Tails(Zoner), Knuckles(Grappler), Amy(Rushdown), Shadow(Shoto/Rushdown)
No explanation needed
Rouge: Sega is pushing Rouge as a main character recently with her being playable in Sonic Dream Team and her being a main character in Sonic Prime. Her being in a Sonic fighting game would be great and I feel like she would be a zoner character with her bombs and G.U.N technology.
Cream(& Cheese):
They had her return in Sonic Dream Team and I feel personally they’ll have her return for a new game. I think she herself would be a zoner and her super move could have you play as Cheese and he would 100% be a rushdown, or even have him be a projectile. Her being a puppet type seems great as well, but i’m more familiar with the rushdown and zoner character types.
Espio, Vector, and Charmy:
Having one without the other two seems wrong(look at Team Sonic Racing). Espio would be a rushdown, Vector a grappler, and Charmy a zoner/rushdown.
Eggman:
You always need a villain character in a fighting game and Eggman is a no brainer for his role. He could be both a zoner and a grappler.
Blaze:
She has been absent in recent games and I’d love her to join a fighting game with her experience and mobility. She would be a shoto style character.
Silver:
Silver has also been absent in recent games and he is a fan favorite character like Blaze. Sega would not miss these two characters if they would make a fighting game. He would be a stance/zoner character.
Metal Sonic:
Metal would a good choice for a fighting game with his fighting experience, speed and mobility. I agree with him being a composite character type.
Finally: Big and Froggy
A puppet character type, Big and Froggy would be a great combo in a fighting game with Bigs ridiculous strength and Froggys mobility.
Agreed
This entire video has had me like that one meme with Kronk
"No, no, he's got a point..."
Loved the editing and ideas. W vid.
This is really good! Now what would we name this fighting game though? Here's one name I have for it:
Sonic Rush Excel.
Bro, I was waiting for tangle the whole time! Let’s go! However… no Emeral?
I think it would be cool if each character got a couple different costumes or color options.
Like imagine if metal sonic had a design that replaced his model with that of Neo Metal Sonic. Or if that is too complex, simply having a recolor of shadow that gives him yellow stripes to reference Shadow Android would be pretty cool.
Heck, even if the only thing that changes can be closed, having Amy in her riders design would be nice
awesome video,I have neat little idea aswell
I think this potential game could have a secondary game mode with complete different roster , classic mode
It play exactly like the original sonic the fighters , only featuring classic version of character, as well as honey and bean and bark and fang
But also new commers : trip and mighty and ray , you can put metal knuckles and tails doll aswell for 2 bonus dlc characters you get from the original dlc pack
only issue I have with this is that blazes theme isn't vela-nova, since thats been used as her theme in the games shes been in afterwards if I remember correctly. also the music interrupt for her should be wrapped in black, that would go IMMENSELY hard. otherwise, absolutely agree on all of these! ESPECIALLY tangle, shes my favorite of the comic characters and probably my second favorite sonic character besides blaze
Me just sitting here knowing that Metal Sonic’s theme would be This Machine
I could see Vector's home stage having Wanted posters and Missing Posters in the background with the characters from Sonic The FIghters that aren't playable in this game.
S tear ?
A tear ?
B tear ?
C tear ?
F tear ?
Some more ideas;
I think you missed a key and I feel guaranteed character, or even pair of characters, that being an entirely new one made for the game.
10:16 bruh i fucking choked upon hearing Vergil, ive been struggling on killing him in Son of Sparda mode for a while now
Vergil's a menace, good luck broski.
Orbot and cubot wouldve bin hype
Hear me out, Tails as a stance character going between him on his own where he has more mobility and the cyclone where he has more damage.
I love this video and your logic. Would probably main Sonic, Amy, Tangle and Surge(if she would be in this hypothetical dlc2) and maybe Rouge
Starline would go hard as he would have an interesting moveset from his lightning boots his teleportation hands and tricore
I would've added Emerl, Gemerl, Werehog, and Gamma and Chaos Gamma
I'm curious how you would have handled Vector and Charmy if they were separate fighters?
Because I’m delusional, I’ll give this nonexistent game a title: Sonic Slam! If I were to play I’d have quite a few interchangeable mains, I love the roster construction here 🤩
18:59 Why do I get the feeling if this game existed. The person who is responsible for that soundbyte would use Nil/Infinite
What's the music during Tangle?
You cant use the sonic battle logo and then not drop emerl, but then again emerl is dead so the gemerl thing is a good idea
Kinda surprised by the lack of Gemerl here. Given each spinoff has had at least a little story, having him there would justify Cream's inclusion more from a lore-perspective.
Orbot and cubot would have been REALLY funny and really fun
And give them an alt scratch and grounder color scheme
You don't have to imagine! Theres a game on roblox called "Sonic Showdown." They have a bunch of canon characters and exe characters.
Here’s the roster I would want if Sega teamed up with Arc System Works to make a Sonic fighting game. 24 characters in the base roster, first DLC season will have 7 characters. Fair warning, this roster might get a bit weird and obscure:
*Base Roster*
Sonic
Tails
Knuckles
Amy
Blaze
The Chaotix
Silver
Shadow
Metal Sonic
Chaos 0
Mephiles
Zavok
Erazor Djinn
King Arthur
Merlina
Rouge
Omega
Classic Sonic
Cream
Big
Dr Eggman
Jet
Black Doom
Infinite
*DLC Season 1*
Movie Sonic
The Rookie
Gamma
Sonic the Werehog
Chip (Light Gaia)
Sticks
The Wisps
I had been praying that marine wouldn’t be involved at all
Arle would be a fun guest kinda like Arale in BT3
Overall, this was a good roster with nice archetypes for the characters. I think Tikal and Black Doom are deserving of DLC spots at least. I imagine Black Doom playing like Shuma-Gorath from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3; the strange body type would be cool to see in battle.
Ever heard of Sonic Smackdown?
No, he put up the image onscreen at 0:15 while blindfolded, he has no idea
What if Eggman had metal as a puppet? Probably overpowered but could be interesting
Combat Banter, down below, Let's Go!
Shadow V Shadow
Shadow1: Who are you?
Shadow2: The Ultimate Lifeform!
Shadow1: An Arrogant Faker!
Video game characters should be the focus. With comic characters being more rare
No Fang the Hunter or Bean the dynamite, how can anyone forget bark the polar bear?
Classic characters weren't considered for this.
Ok imagine chip but he plays as a smaller gaia temple golem, which can be destroyed and reformed in the fight
Or its like a phoenix wright MVC thing where he has to work to it
how would infinite be contriversial?
I feel like a better pick for final DLC would be Tangle AND Whisper! They are a package deal in the comics so it'd make a lotta sense!
14:46 bro😭
Me at the beging of everymatch: WORTHLESS CONSUNER MODELS
I thought you were gonna pick the Werehog for the last choice lmao
