Agreed 100%. I'm aware that this comment is a novel, but I'll explain thoroughly. I have taken a few days to research. The finalized 2018 regulations involve a complex metric where the total Kw/h of power used, along with the total gallons used to do the largest load possible with the machine, are then divided by the tub capacity... or multiplied, or the cosine of the square root, some typical Government think-tank figure that was agreed upon by a handful of DOE employees who know *NOTHING* about how clothes washing is accomplished. Yours and ours met the 2015 regs before they were introduced. In fact, the "real-world" total energy use on ours, using Medium fill and Normal Eco, is already comparable to front-loader models, and in fact are BETTER than some of the 2015 front-loaders. A quick way to tell is this...if you find a front-loader that is *NOT* Energy Star rated, then your machine here uses LESS energy. SQ just missed the Energy Star tier, and they missed it on purpose in order to quote "Allow the customer the choice to use a full fill and a deep-tub rinse via the "Heavy Duty" cycle selection, as the ability to choose is a larger selling point than benefits of the Energy Star rating." That quote was taken out of an internal SQ memo to dealers. Everywhere you look, you see ENERGY STAR... it's not exactly a huge selling point anymore because you see it on just about EVERYTHING. It's like a car company advertising "The all-new 2018 Cadillac Escalade, comes complete with *ANTI-LOCK BRAKES!"* It's important that anyone reading my comment, or commenting themselves on the 2018 models, understand that *Energy Star* and the *US Department of Energy* are two different entities, Energy Star being a voluntary certification and nothing more, and the DOE being a US Government regulating body. All this being said, both the total Kw/h and total gallons that the AWN series use to wash a large-fill "Normal-Eco" cycle is slightly higher than the final iteration of the 2018 regulations. The 1-hp 3-phase motor in the 2018s (which of course is taken directly from the existing SQ front-loaders,) combined with the slightly less wash fill, just eeeks the 2018s under the scope of the requirements. The reason why the motor, at twice the size, uses less "Kw/h" is two-fold: First, it's only running 1/3rd of the time. The inverter drive powers it "forward, off... reverse, off..." and therefore uses, for the sake of discussion, half the Kw/h it would use if it were constantly running. Secondly, since it's a 3-phase ECM DC motor being driven through electronics, it's more efficient than a typical AC induction motor. So, in laymen's terms and within a nutshell, this motor uses slightly less electricity overall than the 1/2-hp AC motor in yours and ours. And, of course, you're correct, without a transmission only driving an agitator against the resistance of water, these motors are driving the entire mass of the whole washload...about 300 pounds. The discontinuation of the transmission, along with using "off-the-shelf" front-loader motors, is nothing but *cost cutting.* HOWEVER... the thing with these particular motors is this... YES they have been in use for ten years in the SQ front-loaders, but uh...people forget what a front-loader does. The motor soft-starts, ramps up, tumbles for ten seconds or so, windings heat up, then pauses for five seconds or so, windings cool a bit. These 2018s just slam the motor with "forward, reverse, forward, reverse," at full chooch and there's no ramping, and no delay for the windings to cool. Imagine flooring the gas pedal in your car and operating the shifter in this manner. The fact is, these motors were simply Just. Not. Designed. for this mode of operation. Neither were the inverter drives. I shudder to think what is going on inside the inverter drive...power surge after power surge after power surge. Here's what should have happened, and this was after about three hours of crunching numbers on my part... they should have taken the existing AWN, added a pulse-width modulating triac controller to cut the [existing] motor down to about 85% during the wash cycle, left the transmission in place as-is, cut two minutes off the final spin, and set the [also existing] fill-level transducer back about 8 gallons. The worst that would have happened then would have been a couple less T-shirts of capacity, and an extra five minutes in the dryer. That would have *JUST* squeezed under the new requirements, and kept the same components and reliability legend. Plus, people like us could have easily adjusted the fill back to full with the well-known turn of the screw, and removed the PWM triac to make the motor run at 100%. Instead, they chose to cost-cut by eliminating the transmission (obviously the most expensive part,) and using the parts-bin drivetrain from the front-loader. And they modified the existing front-loader controller with software, which is free. Oh, and they tacked on about $100'ish to the price for good measure.
Awesome info there Harley! I knew your electrical knowledge would come in handy! I like your motor explanations. The 2018 TL motor is VERY hard-starting compared to the FL motors. Of course, only people with common sense such as yourself, I, and a few others will take notice of that. I figured there were some differences between Energy Star, and DOE, but I wasn't sure of those exact details. As you explain, amazing what they could have done to make it the least change as possible. But of course they just could not do that. Such is life, huh? Still, good thing we got our machines when we did!
Harley Badger The motor in my Maytag A810 only uses 7 amps at 120v AC. Reversing a motor back and forth uses more electricity than having a motor that spins in one continuous direction, and reveres the other direction for spin.
I've owned a 2018 model for four months now. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining. It seems to clean just fine to me and it is the quietest washer I've ever heard. I love it.
I am getting the 2018 model in a few months. I bought it then looked up these reviews. Seeing every video i find with a couple exceptions, are bad reviews. Kinda worried now. paying 1800 for a washer and dryer now hoping it works right
after 3 years, mine is getting oil all over my clothes and Speed Queen is NOT honoring their 10 year warrantee because not enough oil is getting on my clothes - i guess i have to wait until it completely gets oil all over the floor. so i am never recommending Speed Queen to anyone. i am in the market for a new washer and will never buy a Speed Queen.
All I can say is our 2018 TR7 has been great so far. We suffered through 2 agitatorless GE top loaders in the last 8 years. Our clothes are coming out very clean, smell very good. No problems so far.
All I have to say is "get the government out of our laundry rooms, out of our kitchens, and out of our bathrooms. The new washers don't wash well, the new dishwashers don't wash dishes well, the refrigerators are unreliable and break down often, as do the stoves, the toilets don't flush well, especially if you have a long run of plumbing in the house you're in.
I will never forget when we got our toilets put in one of the first years after they regulated low flush toilets. For YEARS we had clogged toilets at least once a week. It was horrible. I told my parents to go to another country and smuggle in an illegal toilet! (sarc!) It was horrible! When we sold the house it was good riddance to the horrible toilets!
All because of the ENVIORMENT and the global warming scam how the hell do we go from global cooling in the 70’s now warming. It’s the same thing with new refrigerant R134a and 410a is decent but they are trying to phase those out now....
I really appreciate the time you (and several others) take to keep us informed .. based on your videos and knowledgable comments posted regarding Speed Queen's 2018 changes, I managed to find one of the few remaining 2017 models and snap it up.
I wish we saw this video before we purchased our 2018 Speed Queen. We've had the 2018 SQ for the past 3 months. It was to replace a 1990s Kenmore that worked very well for us, but unfortunately we thought it wasn't worth it to repair (in hindsight, we should have with with the repair). We are a family of 4, with a toddler and a baby, and I can tell you that we are extremely frustrated with this new washer. In fact, I found this video when trawling through looking for solutions. The 2018 SQ does nothing for us. We don't even have very dirty clothes, just non-oily baby food, light dirt and soil from playing outside, and crumbs to wash off and it doesn't even do that properly. We're having to hand-wash stuff either before or after each wash. Stains that haven't been washed properly again and again have gotten moldy and we've had to discard bibs and articles of baby clothes that have lasted us 3 years and 2 other washing machines. We were lucky that we went to an excellent dealer that went out of their way to be helpful. They sent technicians over twice, the second time to upgrade the circuit board to the latest version 6 (didn't make a difference). We finally worked something out where they're going to replace our 2018 with a warehouse-damaged 2017 SQ after replacing the damaged panel, at no charge to us. From my conversation with the technician, the 2018 SQ has been problematic for numerous customers. The service manager, who has been assisting us for the past month, confirms this. Our dealer, who's been in business for over 50 years, will no longer sell Speed Queen due to their issues. To anyone reading this, don't make the same mistake we did. Stay far away from it.
Too bad the Kenmore went, but hey, sometimes the thought just doesn't cross our minds at first. At least you'll get the 2017! You won't be disappointed.
i would never ever buy another speed queen....after 3 years and 1 repair, the transmission went, leaking oil into the clothes. it also had the odor of burning oil, like an old car. the tech said the oil was not that bad and i should just accept it and when i called speed queen customer service, they were unaccommodating and expected me to pay for the diagnostics and repair, even though it was under warrantee. i am buying a washer from GE this time as people i know have had excellent reports of GE. speed queen gets two thumbs down and i am telling every one about it. buyer beware. piece of junk with fake warrantee, dishonorable company.
I called 6 places today. Only one had the 17. And they had one. I put a deposit on it till I get time to drive 2 hours to snag it. I agree that the wpool direct drive is great. The difference is the rub, baseplate and just the weight of the cabinet in general. Equally reliable the speed queen is just a bit more heavy duty and commerical and I like that. I work on appliances for a living and I've seen these style units and similar ones run 30 years or more. When they deviated from concrete tubs and took away springs anchoring the unit down it wouldn't put up with even slightly I'm balanced loads. Their are clothes washer and dishwashers but their are also clothes and dish wetters. Your points are all valid. Glad I caught the last one on the gulf coast haha.
Well it's good to know you have seen then last that long! Though I do have confidence that this machine will do well. Travel safely, and awesome that you got it!
Thank you for this....I've been wanting a speed queen for a year for all the reasons you mentioned. Well a couple nights ago my LG washer had the pump fail. I ordered a new pump and will install it but that told me it was time considering I also will have a bit of extra money next month to afford one. All set to walk into a store and say give me one next week. Then I saw THIS. OHHH NOOOOO, I'm not having the changes. Not this girl. Long story short.....I was fortunate from what I was told to find a 2017 model available that isn't already paired up with a dryer to be sold as a package. It is to be paid for tomorrow and delivered Monday. THANK YOU for saving me the headache of ignorance. When they DO go out I would be interested in the most common things that DO go out and need fixing- I want to be prepared
I wonder if Speed Queen realizes that by cheapening their design that they alienated 90% of their customer base. There's a reason their washers developed a cult following and that's because they were built like tanks. The good-ish news is that according to an Alliance spokesman, the 2017 style toploaders will be available alongside the 2018 style through the end of the 2018 model year. And you should be able to find 2017 models in appliance showrooms for at least another year or two, as they are slow, but profitable sellers. That being said I'm going to buy one of the 2017 style toploaders while I can still find them and keeping it running for as long a I can...
Well if that's true, hopefully they stay a while! I'm sure they will sell far better than the 2018 ones will! Same here. We are keeping this 2016 one going for as long as possible.
90+% of their customers are commercial laundromats! As long as these wash clothes, are durable, and don't snag customers' clothes, plus save energy costs, commercial owners will be quite happy!
Try to order in model LWNE22SP115TW01 or LWN432SP115TW01. They're the same as the AWN series was, except SQ is only marketing them to commercial applications. Same suspension, same brake, same transmission, etc. Last I heard the company is backordered becaus eeveryone and their dog is ordering them but from what I heard, they are more than willing to sell them through appliance stores that carry their brand
the lwn432 now has a none adjustable one level pressure switch , the picture on the website is wrong , also the parts lookup is wrong . why they done this is beyond me !
The people bashing the new 2018 machines should differentiate between them being against the Washing action and if the machine will be durable and or it's longevity. The main reason I bought a SQ was for it's longevity and reliability.
Ever since Alliance took over SQ, these machines have shown to be very reliable. I did not question the RELIABILITY of the 2018 machines in this video. Just the WASHABILITY.
I should have watched this before purchasing. I've had a 2018 model for less than 2 years and it now requires a "complete tear-down and rebuild" according to the technician in consultation with Speed Queen technicians. So it not only doesn't clean well (which my wife always said), the quality is really poor. When I pressed for a replacement due to my lemon, I was met with significant resistance by Speed Queen. Parts needed 1) lower bearing, 2) spline, 3) shaft, 4) weldment asm, 5) drive control arm, 6) tub, 7) all the necessary nuts, etc. So essentially all necessary components except for the white shell. This work order doesn't include the control board which also failed.
I couldn't agree with you more Sharkie, Your video was very well put!!! That's why I am so glad that I just got the exact Speed Queen set that you have delivered this morning!!! I was waiting for the new S.Q. to come out but, after seeing the videos on how they perform, "NO THANK YOU" I choose the reliable one!!! My dealer only had 2 sets left before they are gone forever and I was Lucky enough to get one before they were all sold out for good and It was well worth the money too!!! Thanks again for the posting...
They brought back the Speed Queen Classic, but I'm not holding my breath that these will be on the market for long. You need a transmission and a brake for better performance. I agree with you in full.
Thank You! Thank You! I must be under a rock or something....I had decided to hold off on buying a speed queen pair temporarily, keeping my whirlpool direct drive going until I bought my next house. HOWEVER This video just surprised me totally and opened my eyes. I JUST got back from Appliance World and I am now the proud owner of a speed queen awn 92 series pair! Once my new machines arrive, I will start restoring my old whirlpool. Total rebuild from the ground up. I told the salesman and my wife " under no circumstances do I want my old machine taken away". The sales staff at the store understood completely. They are not at all enthused about the new 2018 model or any of the other high efficiency garbage they unfortunately HAVE to sell. The salesman pointed out speed queen no longer mentions the new machines have the durability to last 25 years like ours will. They still seem to have better construction than the typical China pride though. However..it still remains to be seen how these new machines will stand up. From what I can see, washabilty in the 2018 models is already compromised due to the inadequate weak agitation..let's hope the rest isn't a complete failure as well. I might be wrong, but It looks like it might be possible to swap in a transmission drive with a little know - how... modifications to the electronic controls would also need done..Maybe? Anyway, Thank You for taking the time to make this most helpful video!
Very good timing my friend! That 92 series should last you a long time. Keep that direct drive going as well! With a new 92 series and a direct drive on the side. You are set for life! I'm sure the sales staff know exactly about why you are as such with your machines! As for swapping parts? Not too sure on that one. Maybe someone else knows though!
I got lucky and got my AWN92 just like yours Feb 2017. It has worked flawlessly for 5 1/2 years now and absolutely love it. I’m so glad my LG front loader crapped out just in time. Hopefully it will last 25 years without any major issues
Thank you for taking the time to post this. It gave me the push I needed to visit my local dealer. He had stocked up on the 2017 models because of the pending change. I think he was surprised at my knowledge of the change in the agitator. My new set is arriving this week.
I sell these for a living. We are a family owned retail store that's sold SQ for years. If you would take time and look past the changes they made to "conserve energy" you'll see this is far superior over the old line. That's why they can put a 7 YEAR WARRANTY on it! The fabric tests they've done over the old models come out cleaner and have less stress. It's true the EPA regulates all washers for 2018 (across all brands) so the new eco cycle has to meet EPA regulations but seeing these in action and what they do compare to the old 9 series is amazing! SQ had 2 choices to make after the EPA came out with their new regulations, create a POS machine like Maytag, Whirlpool, and LG, or spend years thinking outside the box to make something that lives up to the Speed Queen name. They haven't educated the consumer properly to show the difference between what the DOE and the EPA set (eco setting) and the heavy duty setting which is the same setting the old models have. The eco setting will conserve water and not use hot water. The only thing they changed on the new models was eliminating the transmission and made it so the water passes through the clothes instead of the clothes moving through the water. They're still made out of steel and you wont find plastic on them where you would on other brands. You're comparing apples to apples in this video, now compare SQ to any other brand out there and you'll find it will still destroy the competition because the competition must meet guidelines as well. Yes I am a salesman, I also carry Whirlpool, LG, Samsung and Crosley in our store and I will NEVER write a review protecting their name because they're not made with the quality SQ is made with. I use them on my floor to show how much better SQ is. I can say with pride when my own personal machine goes out I won't by anything other than a Speed Queen.
Here's the problem. This is probably about the 4th comment now that has told me that these 2018 machines will be reliable. Aside from the possibly the drain pump, I did not question the reliability of the 2018 machines, time will do that for us. I am well aware they still use metal, and the supporting suspension, and I commend them for it. I was talking about the washability of the machines. I have already seen the new washing action in several videos, and comments on it. Speed Queen even advertised in their previous models that they move water through your clothes. Though to be fair, some of their advertising I question, such as the 210 degree agitation stroke which was completely false. Anyone could easily see that it was 180. But a real heavy load in the 2018 model, such as work clothes? It's not gonna do well. If it does not turn over well, then the stuff on top especially will not get washed well. When some say that they have done testing on the new models and say they perform better, I want to know, how much water did they use, how much clothing, what type of clothing, what cycle, what detergent, and what water temperature? These are things they never tell you. But it's not limited to SQ. Back when GE came out with their Hydrowaves? They had a side by side comparison with their older model. The older model clearly had a much lower water level than the newer one. Not a fair comparison at all. If people are getting fabric wear from their machines, then they are using them wrong. I used a Whirlpool direct drive for many years. No tears, rips, holes, nothing at all. Simply wearing your clothes will wear them out faster than any properly used machine ever will.
When we went to training they showed us fabric swatches that all manufacturers have to test with before they release they're models. I'm not a rep for SQ just a retailer and most of what they test will never be public knowledge and I don't have all the info at my finger tips for what they tested. I understand that they have to hype up the product to get me excited to sell it but from what I've seen I still stand behind their new machine. After the test they put the swatch under a microscope and check stress damage and how clean each stain got. It tested higher than any brand and out performed the old SQ models. The washability mimics a rip tide affect. The new machines eco cycle goes through algorithms to give the proper amount of water to each individual load. Compared to any other brands eco cycle. The energy guide, washability, and all tests are always based off the eco or normal cycle set by the DOE and EPA. I agree only time will tell. I hope for consumer sake it lives up to the SQ name, but in my opinion it's still going to be the best option compared to the other brands out there right now.
Jerome Davis it’s designed not to move the clothes through the water, but move the water through the clothes. Until you actually see the results it is very hard to understand because something like this has never been done before. It will not turn your clothes over like a regular agitator. Instead it uses a drive shaft that would fit a Chevy and a 1HP motor. Since they released these I have personally sold over 50 units and have not had one customer call in about clothes not being cleaned properly. It’s been the exact opposite. They are referring their family and friends because they have never had a washer perform so well, with a full cycle time under an hour and is quieter than the older models. I can promise you if you purchase any of the new models you will not be disappointed. They back up their TR7 machine with a 7 year warranty which is unheard of because they know they build a quality machine. There’s nothing I can say or do to change how you perceive the new wash cycle. Instead ask a pro....select 5 random servicers in your area and ask them what washing machines they recommend and what does the best job. They work on all brands everyday. I would guess 3 out of 5 will say SQ (unless the servicer owns their own appl. store and does not carry SQ, they will only say what they carry) I hope whatever brand of machine you choose in the future does a great job for you and I hope this answers your question.
I went through a course that SQ put on where we took the 2018 model apart, dissected every part, then reassembled it and I have to say, I am thoroughly happy with the new models! I honestly can't wait for them to come to my store and I think that everyone is just really freaking out too early on them.
doesn't take much to amuse you mayhem,,, you'd be happy with a hand crank instead of a motor ! and still say 'everyone is just really freaking out too early on them' you just have no sense of quality!
I made the mistake of getting a new speed queen in February. After going thru machine after machine after machine, all being POS’s, I got the speed queen that I thought I’d always wanted. The new 18’s are AWFUL!!!!! I have already had a repair guy out once, still waiting on parts, supposedly it’s the brake not releasing that is making my laundry come out filthy and eating holes in my towels. Wish I would have seen some of these videos before I bought mine. Also realizing how many things I don’t have on this machine that I miss. Like the detergent dispenser so I don’t have to be home babysitting it to put fresh soap in after a soak or a prewash. Or being able to fit more than 4 standard bth towels in it and actually have them come out somewhat clean. Also hate the fact that the normal cycle is automatically “eco”. Now I’m on the search again to find a bigger machine that will clean clothes 😞
I've got the 2019 TC5000WN, great machine. After years of HE misery, it's great to have a machine that gets clothes clean and within a reasonable time. For me, it's Speed Queen or no machine!
I hate when people say it's just a dishwasher as long as the dishes get clean! I want to hear what the DAMN thing sounds like so I know it works properly! None of these pissy pumps!
Check the newly available (May, 2019) AWN632SP116TW01, AKA the TC5000WN. Old-school action, works great, good reviews. Deep fill, tub brake- independent agitator, and a normal cycle takes less than a half-hour. And it gets the clothes clean.

I will simply say: I concur with your findings and agree with them completely. I think it really is a cost-cutting measure. One other item of interest--the new machine uses a 1 HP motor and the old a 1/2 HP motor. Last I checked, a bigger motor uses more electricity than a smaller one. Sure, there are different types and kinds of motors, some designs more efficient than others. So the HP rating is one thing, but should really be compared apples-to-apples style, inasmuch as the new machine would need an induction motor also to make things equal. Little motor: Daddy, how come you have three wires and I only have 2? Daddy motor: That's just a phase going through you.
I knew it would get your approval! I was wondering if it was gonna be another long Jay comment (which I enjoy reading), but figured the video would cover all points necessary! Cool motor info there! And the lines too. Haha.
you just said everything I’ve been thinking for so long. Trying to trash a completely reliable wash system they’ve had for years. Luckily, they are still offering it the TR7 series I believe, it’s got a silver and white control panel with the flex vane agitator, not the fake swishing agitator that does nearly nothing. Unfortunately my dad got the TR5 series and I’m very disappointed with it, and he didn’t know at the time that they still offered the older wash system. Might try to get him to swap it out.
Listen here, I have one of these newer 2018 speed queens and they're not bad at all. Everyone is just being hysterical. You even said yourself that has double the horsepower! SQ2017= 1/2 hp. New Queens= 1 full HP. I'll agree with you it doesn't wash as well as the older ones, but here is were you're wrong. I never have to worry about breaking the agitator or having the "dogs" wear out on the agitator. FYI... you don't need a tub break when you have a lid lock! Mine works fine. the older ones may have been a slightly better wash, but it's still really good.
Yes, it HAS to be more horsepower because it's trying to turn a tub full of water and clothes. It's not done to make it work any better over the previous models, but it looks like you acknowledge that. I have not seen agitators breaking, unless maybe someone is severely overloading a machine, which in that case is user error. And, this machine has no agitator dogs because it's a one piece, not a dual-action. Even so, on our previous machine, the dogs lasted 11 years, and then 15 years after the first replacement. Considering the replacements cost about $6.00, and labor is minimal, it's really not much of a loss at all. Lid locks were only added BECAUSE they got rid of the tub brake, which was a dumb move. It's stupid how you have to stop the machine to open the lid, where for years, that was never a problem.
@@Sharkie626 Who are all these people stopping the machine mid-cycle? I've never had to do that. The newer model still gives you a chance to throw more clothes before the lid is locked down.
I'm glad the Laundrymat I go to did not replace their Speed Queen top load washers and has some old ones too, with the coin slot where you aline 6 coins next to eachother and then gets pushed in and pulled out as the 6 coins go into the machine and starts up and the temp and wash setting is controlled by nobs.
I just purchased a TC5 for that reason. I just can’t picture a group of Speed Queen engineers watching the wash action of their TR series and saying, “yup, we nailed it”.
Have to agree with you. After seeing the pitiful wash action of the new machines it makes me glad I pulled the trigger and got my 8 series washer in Sept. Now I really think I need to get the matching dryer before they are gone. I'm going to need a second dryer once I get the old Maytag going again.
Oh my goodness!! Had I not seen this video, I would have waited for the 2018 models!! Thank goodness I was able to get a 2017 today!! My local store only has 30 left and once they're gone, that's it. production has stopped. The owner said he dreads when the 2018 models roll in. Thank you so so much for this info.
That's awesome! Glad you got them successfully! I saw your other reply too. Amazing how even the store owners are dreading the new ones! I guess that tells ya something huh? Have fun doing your laundry! :D
Compared to the maytag top loader i had for 3 days, this Speed Queen is amazing. The clothes get clean and it fills with water helping to get the dog hair etc off.
@@Sharkie626 I bet you lost a lot of sales not selling Speed Queen anymore. Its a much better quality washer versus anything else. And do you do sales? People complain about HE machines not washing right etc. Maybe you should make your own washer?
Look at the SQ AWN632SP116TW01 "COMMERCIAL HEAVY DUTY" (late 2019-model introduced in May), or the Maytag MVWP575GW "COMMERCIAL". These will not be available through the big box stores such as Home Depot or Best Buy, but you can find them at locally-owned "Mom-and-Pop" furniture and appliance stores. You'll probably have to google "furniture and appliance stores". The Speed Queen is almost identical to the 2017-model and uses the proven mechanicals that last thirty years at the coin laundries. The Maytag "COMMERCIAL" is similar to the Maytag coin laundry machines, except for the dual-action agitator. Whirlpool also builds the deceptively named Maytag "COMMERCIAL TECHNOLOGY" machines sold through big box stores. Check out these machines, check the video reviews, commit their features to memory, and steer well clear. Most reviews are negative. These machines are also rebadged as Roper, Conservator, Crosley, Amana, Admiral, Whirlpool, Kenmore, and any of the other dozen or so brands now owned by Whirlpool. Good luck in selecting your new machine.
Thank your government for the change. You can still buy this machine with a coin box. The government allow them to keep making it for the laundry industry but not the home. It has nothing to do with trying to make it cheaper. If you were able to sit in on SQ classes you could learn a lot of the reasons why.
it's about energy savings - engineers design stupid things which interferes with operations and stupid govt people approve it - like smart meters, etc - they did same with hot water tanks too - the heat traps - Caveat, Clattering Noises If you can hear an annoying rattling sound, especially at night, suspect what are known as heat-trap nipples. These were designed to help water heaters meet federal energy conservation requirements. They consist of a nipple, which is a connector threaded at both ends, a plastic insert (have a pic but cant show here), and a marble, which is inside. The heat trap keeps heat from rising when the water heater is not in use. But it also is prone to rattle, especially if the water heater is equipped with a recirculation system that keeps water moving. And the piping will broadcast the noise all over the house. To solve the problem, simply take a pair of needle-nose pliers, firmly grasp the top part of the insert, work it loose, and throw away the marble.
I seen one the videos of the new 2018. I honestly thought the video was uploaded in slow motion. Come to find out that is the new wash action. Very pathetic. Damn speed queen. You just drove away any chance of new customers who want a washer that runs like the older belt drive maytags and whirlpool. The reason I got the 2014 model is because I wanted a washer that washed like the 80s whirlpool and maytag.
Indeed. I don't think many are going to be happy to purchase these now. But that's their own doing. My bro and sister in law have a 2014 model. They both love it! I stressed them to get a SQ in that year when they moved.
If I were the top CEO for Speed Queen, I'd be firing a lot of people right now. What their engineering and product development team have done to the 2018 line-up of their top load washers is nothing short of self-sabotage. The company would have spent millions to retool their factory to give consumers a product, that they know to be inferior to what they made before. I am sure that many long-term employees at Speed Queen are shocked and disappointed. Speed Queen is the American equivalent of Germany's Miele or Sweden's Asko. Neither of those companies would ever pull such a stunt on their products and, ultimately, their consumer base. Reputable companies engineer their products up, not down. They take pride in their products and respect their customers. It takes a long time for any business to build up a good reputation and only incompetent management would risk that reputation. It shows that SQ's top brass either don't understand their product and their consumer base, or they simply don't care. I agree with the comments made in the video - it has nothing to do with meeting energy and efficiency regulations. That's a cop-out. Anyway, if SQ loses sales and market share, other companies will fill the void. Maybe SQ intends to engineer itself out of the washing machine business or they aim to compete with companies like Haier - who knows. It's sad though. It's also a shame for all those SQ employees, who will probably lose their jobs as a result and who are privately wondering "what were they thinking?"
Yeah seriously. Harley Badger himself said that these new machines are not new engineering. They just took front loader parts and put them in the top loader machines.
Sec, don't be so quick to blame the engineers. Check who on the board is shorting the stock. Maybe the Board is killing the products and the company on purpose, setting up for layoffs or a buyout, who knows? It's all behind closed doors.
Most of the complaints against the new model is simply for it's wash action. Like it or not this is the future of washing machines. Myself having a septic system, I like the Auto Fill feature and the ability to use less water on some loads. Technology advances folks, gotta go with the times.
Man, I'm glad you made this video. I've been wanting a Speed Queen for a while but didnt know about the 2018 changes. It's back to the ole drawing board.
Sales will most likely sink like a stone. This is not only bad for Speed Queen, but local appliance stores will likely loose business because they were the only ones who sold Speed Queen washers and dryers. The new 2018 Speed Queen washers will most likely be a failure since they do not clean as well as the one with a transmission.
It is like reliving what happened to maytag 15 years ago when they scrapped their dependable care line , 1st they cheapened it up by useing cheaper parts so we started having lots more breakdowns, 2nd , we were having enough failures that it made us open to a NEW design that was supposed to be the savior of all washers, 3rd, that washer was the biggest disaster in washing machine history ( so far ) 4th , they doubled down on the terrible washer, promising the fixes that never came, and wouldn’t even consider bringing the old machine back, 5th and final chapter , this mess went on for 3 years then in 2006 maytag Corp. a shell of the great company it once was , sold out to whirlpool ! To all the speed queen dealers who were once maytag dealers , is it just me or are we seeing a classic example of history repeating itself ?????
Well if sales do go down, no one to blame but themselves! In regards to Maytag. Yeah, they lost $9,000,000 in 2004, probably because of cheapening up products like was said there. If that happens to SQ, well they only brought it upon themselves. Although maybe they'll just stick with the commercial market. It's not the first time they've done that.
We will be buying a 2018 speed queen LWN series(commercial homestyle) machine for my grandma soon.its basically a stripped down 8 series from 2017. Still has a transmission, brake, no lock, etc... it’s The last good home-style speed Queen... and I’ve heard from an outside source that they will keep making this model for the rest of 2018.
That's why I prefer the 2017 or older SQ Washers and Dryers with an nice mechanical knobs and the tub brakes, agitator and so-on and so-forth, or the 2019 or newer SQ TC5000 Series which the washing performance is the same as the 2017 or older ones though the control panel doesn't have a mechanical knob type, it has a rotary encoders switch on each of them with a computer type and really, washing performance is really good. I'm not talking about the TR Series from 2018 or newer, The TC Series is what I'm refer to the 2019 or newer the one they bring back to the market.
I had a crappy new washer for one day. No hot water, not enough water, can't get clothes clean, and it walked across the floor on every load. It was junk. I returned it within 2 days and bought used. When that one wears out, it's back to the laundromat for me. I will never settle for stinky washers and stinky clothes. Thanks Obama. You have to control everything we do even though you have no idea how to build anything. I don't need my government to be my overbearing step parent. So glad you and Michelle are gone!!!!!
The TC5000WN. Newly available from SQ, does deliver a true hot wash without mixing cold. Independent agitator, tub brake on the transmission, available deep fill. and a cycle runs under a half-hour. Best of all, it actually gets my grimy work jeans clean.
I bought the newly available (May 2019) TC5000WN. It is a return to an independent agitator and tub brake transmission. After seven years of poor performing HE washers from GE and LG, I now remember what it's like to get all the grime and soil out of my work jeans! Expensive ($1029 plus delivery and tax), but well worth it!
Very informative video. I was at my local retailer yesterday; he's a ridiculously honest man. He admitted that SQ top loader sales this year have been great but with the exception of two units all the other sales were for the remaining 2017 models! Also said he's getting between 1-2 calls a day from people checking to see if he has any 2017's left. I've decided against a new SQ and now will just repair my old one instead. SQ if you read this, cut your losses now and save your residential market base....bring back what customers know and love for the 2019 model year.
Sharkie626 Success! I found a local dealer with three AWN432SP machines in stock. Had my old machine repaired and now have a brand new one as a spare. Thanks again for this video. Btw, I got to see a 2018 TR5 in action and it is just horrible. Barely any (if at all) turnover and consumer reports already ranked the 2018 TR7 as performing the worst in top loading machines. SQ really made a huge mistake. I hope they can recover.
The newer Speed Queen Washer TC5000WN is the old style design they have brought back. It has their old proven transmission and a brake. This is the washer I recommend my customers to buy when their washer isn't worth repairing. The TR series were a flop. The TC series is the real deal. This is the best washer made today! Any experienced knowledgeable Appliance Tech will tell you the same.
Another recommendation for a good washer: Frigidare Unimatic from 1930 - 1979 I mainly recommend getting the "Rapid Dry Machiens" These one's spun at 1140 RM, Yeah, You did't Relly need a dryer. XD
I remember those machines. Honestly though, they never really interested me. While reliable, I heard that when something had to be fixed, they were a nightmare to work on.
So glad I got my 2017 model from my distributor. They had it returned from a customer because of a small dent in the left rear corner, that was not even visible in his particular configuration. My distributor sold it to me for $615! I'm good for the next 20 years, or so.
Great review I agree with everything you said. I have the same model got mine April of 2016. What a shame what they did to it, I agree, that for cost cutting measures they spelled the end of an era with Speed Queen. The washing performance of the new model leaves much to be desired. It has no power to actually wash the clothes rather than swish them around. Yes they had to increase the motor hp exactly as you said, due the weight of a full drum of water and clothes plus the momentum of moving it rapidly back and forth. It is much more quite but who cares if it’s not cleaning a soiled wash. Maybe they will use marketing to relabel it a Clothes Refresher instead! Thanks again for your demo why couldn’t they bring some of there loyal customers up to headquarters for a brainwashing. They would not have succeeded with there 2018 performance. Looking forward to see Consumer Reports review they will probably say now it’s the best thing since Apply Pie. Where is Andy Rooney when you need him?
Clothes Refresher! Haha, I like that! The new one is absolutely pathetic, I swear that they didn't even try, and tried to make it as cheap as possible. Unless the energy guide was lying, I do not see how you could get more efficient than that. I've always thought Consumer Reports was a crock. I'll believe what I myself personally sees.
So I just had my fisher peco die and salesman sold me a 2018 speed queen tr7. I have 2 weeks before delivery and get home to find a lot of neg on the 2018. So what is a good washer top loading if I return this? Help?
Sorry I am not taking the time to shop used. I just don’t know what I am looking for and don’t trust it. I was told by a local repair man the 7200 lg is a good one to look at. We are first getting a refund from the 2018 speed queen and ask if they had an 2017 which we doubt. If not we are going else where. We found the lg at Best Buy. And it has really high ratings.
LG=Lots of Grief, and I know whereof I speak. I bought one because Consumer Reports rated it highly. HUGE MISTAKE! Mine never cleaned the clothes properly, but the machine would fill brim-full and drain four times then settle into a sulk with an unbalanced code flashing when you wanted to toss things into the dryer and rush to work the next morning. Check out the newly available (May 2019) SQ TC5000WN, model number AWN632SP116TW01. There are TH-cam videos. I've had mine a couple of weeks, and it works like it's supposed to. The clothes come out clean and with much less lint than the LG top-loader left. And the normal cycle takes a bit less than a half-hour. And there's a deep fill option and the hot wash does not temper the temp with cold. Speed Queen dealers are small business people and depend on customer satisfaction, not my experience with a certain big box chain that shares initials with "Big Box".
You are more knowledgeable than most so then WHY DID YOU BUY THIS MACHINE THAT YOU CLEARLY HATE? Do you like the new TC-5's? Or can you recommend one? We are tired or our smelly Electrolux- moldy no matter what we do. Retailer is issuing a full credit for full price after 8 years! Love that warranty. They do not carry S. Queens though- they have Maytag Commercial- 5 year factory warranty. Seems to clean better but not be as reliable. Any thoughts?
@@Sharkie626 I thought this was a 2018 you were talking about- guess it is a 2016. I don't like the newer models. TC line is better. Any other machines you recommend? Maytag Commercial? Has a plastic outer drum? My retailer does not carry Speed Queen. I want the TC5. Problem is, I have a 500 credit- he is buying back our old machine. I had an extended warranty- can't remove the moldy smell despite them trying to fix it twice. They have LG's, Maytags, etc. PC Richard- can you look on their site and make a recommendation? We want top loader to avoid that moldy smell. We will also use better and less detergent and I heard no fabric softener next time to help keep inside clean.
@@MOAB-UT Probably the only machinesI recommend these days are a used Whirlpool direct drive, or transmission Speed Queen. The Maytags they have nowadays are horrible.
The company is owned by a Private Equity Firm. Let me tell you this, when P/E firms are involved they want to squeeze every last penny out of cost they can. Stupidity but they don't care because they are not long term owners they are usually looking for an exit strategy and that's it. I was considering buying an additional 2017 model and storing it long term, but was told from Speed Queen early this year that dry rot and other problems from long terms storage would occur. Death of a great product!!
Check the reviews of the 2019 TC5000WN, model number AWN632SP116TW01. It is basically the 2017 machine tweaked to meet the DOE regs, then offers cycle options like deep fill and a true hot water temp setting.
just bought the 2019 speed queen TC5000 and dryer...redesign...some say back to old school design...hoping it was a good purchase...heard a LOT of negative reviews of the 2018 series.
That explains why my old whirlpool lasted 18 years until it started falling apart. My speed queens parts started going out in a few years. A set of whirlpool cost me the same as a speed queen washer.
@@Sharkie626 well, I think not on par with the older set. Some if the wash cycle setting has stop working. I just use the setting that still works until it is completely broken and get a new switch.
Great video Sharkie626. These pre-2018 Speed Queens were certainly better than the newer ones. I like that yours doesn’t index very much while agitating. These newer Speed Queens aren’t as good as these pre-2017 Speed Queens. As for the direct drives, it was an absolute disgrace that Whirlpool was forced to stop making them and start making these okay to unreliable belt drives. Maytag shot themselves in the foot with the Neptune front loaders which are junk. So, having said that, the washers I will take are the Speed Queen pre-2017 washers (even though I don’t like the electronics controls though since I prefer mechanical controls), the Kenmore/Whirlpool direct drives, the pre-1986 Lady Kenmore/Whirlpool belt drives, the Maytag Dependable Care washers, the GE Profile top loaders from 2006 and earlier, the GE Filter Flos, and any Frigidaire washer from the 1970s and earlier (1-18s and Unimatics for example). The only thing I don’t like about the Frigidaire 1-18s is that they were too noisy. Having said that, I’m continuing sticking with old school.
I agree with you 100% The new machine is designed to be more profitable and I do think it may have less possible issues for repair but I do agree the new pump could fail the motor is going to be under lots of load being it does not have a transmission to gear up or down thus the motor works harder to perform the same functions with out the transmission. As per agitation I saw video on the 2018. I can not see how this new method of agitation can compete with the 2017 machine as per cleaning.
Exactly, I don't see the transmission as a problem. I see it as a necessary part that creates great washing, and if built well won't add too much load to the motor. I mean for how many years have they had something like that now?? There is no way the 2018s will compete. Try using a comforter, it will never work!
Gary Karczewski , every time I see this redesign I roll my eyes and put my head in my hands. I just can't believe what I'm seeing. Ill bet their laundromat versions aren't pitiful like this.
Sharkie ... what are you thoughts on getting a front loader SQ before they no longer off them? Still available for another week in a store near me. Thank you.
Thanks for your reply. I found a SQ AWN432SP113TW04 in my area yesterday and scooped it up. Seems they're not easy to find nowadays. Really appreciated your review.
I still have my 1993 Whirlpool Direct Drive washer and it still runs very well. If I get a new washing machine I would go for another Whirlpool or Kenmore Direct Drive washer from the used market.
yes, it amazes me. I did two loads today including a big comforter. It is direct drive with simple controls. If it goes before me, I will cry. I washed my daughter's clothes in it when she was little. Don't like all the new computer crap. Maybe that's why I drive an old Subaru. (it's still running great too!)
I'll have to agree with you 100% good sir! I guess it's too late for me, all the earlier model Speed Queens have all sold out in my area I think. I'll have to (and want to) keep my Kenmore Direct Drive in service as long as is humanly possible! I think I'll have to go back and watch your video "Whirlpool Direct Drive vs. New Belt Drive."!
I don't understand all this fuss. Discovering this feverish subculture of washing machine wars has been quite a revelation for me. We have a 2019 TR7 and it cleans clothes beautifully and leaves them smelling fresh. It's quiet, has fewer moving parts (Oh No! The betraying travesty!), and I expect it to last longer as a result. If you actually listen to the folks who have the new style machines you'll find the vast majority are satisfied. Most of the naysayers are people who don't have the machine and just assume that it does a bad job, fueled by Consumer Reports misleading test using the Normal ECO mode. Look at the reviews at the bottom of CR's page from consumers using the product frequently in real life. A different story altogether emerges. For those who say Maytag or LG or whatever does better, you'll find an equal number who say they're terrible. For all those who love to sit on the beach in Miami, there are hordes who can't stand it. I like jazz but can't stand country music. At some point, it becomes subjective. With washing machines, there are so many variables and contributing factors. It all comes down to the consumer and how they wash their clothes, the settings, temperature, personal preferences, their willingness to pre-treat stains and so on. Unfortunately (and I say this as someone who is by no means an Einstein) most people are dumb and stupid when it comes to consumer products, or at least clueless when it comes to using them appropriately.
I had the LG CW1101. It was absolute junk from day 1. It never cleaned the clothes adequately, it filled brim-full and drained repeatedly (up to 4 times, sometimes more) while balancing the load, wasting about 25 to 30 gallons of water each time. Worst of all, the time to complete a load, even on the so-called 35 minute "SPEED WASH" setting was calculated by the calendar, not the minute. When it crapped out, I looked at what was available in the big-box stores, then checked the reviews of the TR-series Speed Queen and came across a review of the newly available model TC5000WN. It has an independent agitator, a tub brake, and no lid lock: in short, a revival of the old-school coin-laundry commercial grade machine prettied up for the home market. I bought this new model, and it's great! Clothes, even jeans with ground-in mud come out clean on a normal cycle in under a half-hour using one Member's Mark "ULTIMATE CLEAN POWER PAC" (same dose as used in the LG), and that's not even using the "DEEP FILL" cycle option and extra rinse (additional ten minutes). Add Speed Queen's legendary reliability, and the TC5000WN may be the best washer you can buy.
As of 2/9/18, if anyone is looking for the AWN432 model, there are some available for Maryland and Southern PA. I just went and ordered mine today for delivery Monday. The owner was smart enough to order a bunch when he heard about the new models coming out for 2018. I was relieved to find one after calling around all over the place!
Hey Sharkie, I am sure you miss your 1990 Whirlpool direct drive. That is how I feel too since my parents bought our first newer Kenmore belt drive. That one took longer to wash our laundry. Therefore, I am suggesting to consumers as well to go to a used market and get themselves a Kenmore or Whirlpool direct drive.
Do you guys recommend the matching dryer? I've had the washer for a year and would like to get have the matching dryer if it's worth it. They are clearancing out the 2017 models at my local appliance store to make room for the 2018s
If you have to have brand new, go for the Maytag MVWP575GWH. Better than the 2018 SQ and will turn your clothes over. Comparable warranty as well. SQ is finished as far as I'm concerned.
Or the newly available (May 2019) SQ TC5000WN. Meets DOE regs, but with the deep fill option, and when you choose the hot wash, you get what's coming out of the hot tap. You can bypass the BS and really get your clothes clean. Independent agitator, tub brake, good turnover, no lid lock.
I just bought a used Huebsch (Speed Queen) for $100 dollars. A guy bought a condo and it came with a washer he didn't want. So happy to have it and get rid of my piece of crap LG front load that has been a constant stream of headaches. I took the Huebsch apart to clean the two tubs. I will hopefully have this for many years to come.
Is it possible for this design to improve for the better or is a brand new design needed for their next gen washer? These strict regulations suck! Glad I bought my Speed Queen TL in August.
Never heard of the Speed Queen breaking down a lot ,my wife complains it does not clean good .I have burned up many washers of all brands .I thought the mean reason folks don't buy them is the cost .Agree cost cutting is a real issue they don't care what happens more profit ! Mine is a 2017 model
I am so disappointed to hear this! I've wanted a Speed Queen for many years and now that my Maytag set is 17 1/2 years old, I'm thinking about what to purchase. Would you have any suggestions...I would like an agitator and I really do not want high efficiency...only because I feel they don't use enough water. I'm worried that my washer/dryer will not be around much longer and I'm clueless on what to purchase. Any help would be appreciated...Thanks! Janel in NJ
Just put money down on a new left over 2017 AWN432 washer and a ADG3 dryer. The local SQ dealer (WI) still has a couple 432's left, but I got the last matching dryer. He sold two of the 432's today and doesn't expect them to last long.
Sharkie626 , that’s true with many things unfortunately. They are seem to have electronic controls nowadays. They need to go back to mechanical controls.
The big difference is agitator speed and instant change of direction because of he constant direction of the motor, on transmission machines. The agitator can work harder with less stress on the motor. The transmission is a huge advantage.
@@Sharkie626 Hm. Interesting. There are a lot of folks that think it it is the same one used in the front load models. According to Lorain Furniture, he had one and said it had a 0.9hp motor. Perhaps the TR model motor has a slight modification to make it 1hp for swishing around 300lbs of water and clothes.
I agree totally! It might've helped if thee agitator was independant of the drum and did it's own agitation. It would probably work more like an agipeller. I don't like the black control panel on the new ones either. If the new washer comes in a complete stainless steel body option, then the black control panel would look fine. That's just my opinion.
It might have been a little better that way, but I don't think anything can beat how these washer were previously made. Good results every time! I'm not a fan of the black control panel either.
The new 2018 models may be good for office dust, but real dirt and stains getting shifted out has yet to be seen. I'd use a pod detergent such as tide. I use tide pods original and downy april fresh for my laundry and I use clorox bleach for whites.
using bleach in a washer is nasty and its NOT needed, the bleach from the previous load does not drain and some still sits in the basket and will be re-circulated on the next wash, had this happen when someone used bleach and the next load was a normal wash and some of the close had white spots where there was color , i always think you people who need it brighter white then the sun are suffering from OCD !! its just disgusting ! I DO NOT allow bleach to be used in my washer, its a dangerous and harsh chemical and also cause pre-mature wear on clothing, because bleach slowly eats away at the closes, just because you need your clothing brighter white then the sun!
Why would I care about a brake- they just wear out anyway. I just bought one of their all mechanical controlls models to replace a POS H.E. Whirlpool garbage that considers 3" of water enough to wash a full load! I'll be really glad I wont have to fill up any more 5 gallon pails of water to dump in 20 gallons to fill the H.E. washer to a NORMAL water level!!! AND I'l be glad to not have that BS computer crap either!
Does anyone know why they discontinued the residential front load washers? I trust consumer reports testing and even the 2017 top loader model isn't great overall on the ratings. There are many models from the other big brands that perform extremely well. Why can't we have both? A very well performing machine, built to last and just pay a premium price? Total cost of ownership would be less, even if the machine cost $2K and lasted 25+ yrs, I would be all over that. But if you want a washer to really do a good job at cleaning while being gentle on your clothes, you are stuck with the big brands that fail...
Good to know. I was eventually looking to get a speed queen for a 2nd washer to go next to the old maytag washer. I am now going to pass on speed queen.
Not that it's a major deal, but I believe it was 210 degrees not a 180 degrees stroke until 2018. I agree in 2018 that with the tub and the agitator moving in the same direction, these clothing are just simply riding the currents of the water rather than having the water forced through them. Also the rollover now stinks. What I would like to see Speed Queen do is increase the size of their tub that they have not changed in years. Perhaps they could have increased the number of Strokes per minute keeping it at 210 degrees. What they had going was working because the rollover was excellent. I just feel the stroke should have been a little faster.
They advertised it as 210, but it was definitely not 210. If you watch the agitator carefully it is definitely 180. If the tub still indexes, this won't be accurate. But when it's not, you can clearly see that it does 180 degree strokes.
Our sales have increased and we have to have yet to have a warranty call other than our normal customer using to much soap. We are having our third truck load delivered next week.
You are right. We are regressing. But people are actually happy to buy washers that don't clean as well, and take longer to clean. All because of the little bells, whistles, and lights!
Here's a thought. What if they're going to be selling these new things alongside the old style ones? Like, these new turds will be the high end ones, and the tried and true ones will be the lower-end models?
Your 2015 set should do you well! I think they already were given a chance. I waited until there were videos of just how the new machine will operate. After I saw the cycle vids, I knew they would be a no go.
It's like a car company advertising "The all-new 2018 Cadillac Escalade, comes complete with *ANTI-LOCK BRAKES!"*
It's important that anyone reading my comment, or commenting themselves on the 2018 models, understand that *Energy Star* and the *US Department of Energy* are two different entities, Energy Star being a voluntary certification and nothing more, and the DOE being a US Government regulating body.
The discontinuation of the transmission, along with using "off-the-shelf" front-loader motors, is nothing but *cost cutting.*
HOWEVER... the thing with these particular motors is this...
How will it affect the wash action on the heavy duty cycle on the 2018 speed queens on auto fill or full setting for that matter?
And the average person will say, "It doesn't matter! As long as it cleans clothes!" Really? I don't think so.

@@robdalton2 Ha ha me too! I pick my set tomorrow. How do you like yours?
after 3 years, mine is getting oil all over my clothes and Speed Queen is NOT honoring their 10 year warrantee because not enough oil is getting on my clothes - i guess i have to wait until it completely gets oil all over the floor. so i am never recommending Speed Queen to anyone. i am in the market for a new washer and will never buy a Speed Queen.
Here it is, Aug 2021 and my washer is still humming along just fine. No problems at all with it. Hopefully it will continue that way.
Exactly true!
get rid of government period with an exclamation.!
The new dryers don't dry well either!
Search for videos of new 2019 TC model. Appears they went back to the transmission design! Sounds like they actually clean the clothes again!
RIP speed queen.... what a shame! Thank goodness i got my 2017 in September.
Yeah for sure!
i got my 2019 tc5000wn back in october
I really appreciate the time you (and several others) take to keep us informed .. based on your videos and knowledgable comments posted regarding Speed Queen's 2018 changes, I managed to find one of the few remaining 2017 models and snap it up.
Glad you did! I'm sure it will serve ya well. :D
Thanks Sharkie626, we're really looking forward to wearing clean clothes again!
Maybe you could trade in for the 2019 TC5000WN? Check the reviews.
i would never ever buy another speed queen....after 3 years and 1 repair, the transmission went, leaking oil into the clothes. it also had the odor of burning oil, like an old car. the tech said the oil was not that bad and i should just accept it and when i called speed queen customer service, they were unaccommodating and expected me to pay for the diagnostics and repair, even though it was under warrantee. i am buying a washer from GE this time as people i know have had excellent reports of GE. speed queen gets two thumbs down and i am telling every one about it. buyer beware. piece of junk with fake warrantee, dishonorable company.
@@faithcomesbyhearing2148 EXACTLY! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Speed Queen has taken a steep dive in quality and Customer service
Where did you find it? Where, where, please tell me where! lol I, too, live on the Gulf Coast, but that's a pretty big coast; I'm in New Orleans
Glad you were able to get an older model! It will serve ya well!
@@Sharkie626 The LG washers are one of the easiest machines to repair.
And yes Speed Queen top loaders are shit
Yet they only last a few years.
We wull be out in a week and no way to get more
Try to order in model LWNE22SP115TW01 or LWN432SP115TW01.
They're also supposed to clean your clothes! Correct?
The new TC5000WN gives washes well and I expect traditional SQ longevity from it. For me, it's worth the price.
Really?? Whoo man, they were never like that with these models! I say just get rid of it, and look for a used market.
We bought our Speed Queens in 2016. They work great! Everytime I do laundry, I think about how I wish that they still made them like they did.
Indeed. You got them at a good time!
Oh great that you got that set! Should last you a nice long time. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Good timing indeed! This one is still working great!
Thank you for taking the time to post this. It gave me the push I needed to visit my local dealer. He had stocked up on the 2017 models because of the pending change. I think he was surprised at my knowledge of the change in the agitator. My new set is arriving this week.
Awesome! Glad you got the good set! And no worries, I felt making this was necessary.
How will it get out gough dirt on the heavy-duty cycle if the clothes don't move/
@@albatross2215 there's no way the "heavy-duty" cycle will clean your clothes and turn them over! If so, how?
Thank you, my sister loves her 2017 model. I was planning to purchase 2018 as I love the new look, but what the heck where they thinking?
I think that's exactly what they're using.
I went through a course that SQ put on where we took the 2018 model apart, dissected every part, then reassembled it and I have to say, I am thoroughly happy with the new models! I honestly can't wait for them to come to my store and I think that everyone is just really freaking out too early on them.
I think what most are disappointed about is not the reliability of it (time will tell that for us), but the washability of it.
doesn't take much to amuse you mayhem,,, you'd be happy with a hand crank instead of a motor ! and still say 'everyone is just really freaking out too early on them' you just have no sense of quality!
‘The washer may be quiet, but what about when you need to run the dryer? DUUUH.” ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
Thanks! Some things that some people never take the time to think about!
I hate when people say it's just a dishwasher as long as the dishes get clean! I want to hear what the DAMN thing sounds like so I know it works properly! None of these pissy pumps!
Speed Queen had now relegated their brand into the category of all the other brands, JUNK! I'll NEVER buy the "new design" Speed Queen washer...ever!
Not anymore!
Check the newly available (May, 2019) AWN632SP116TW01, AKA the TC5000WN. Old-school action, works great, good reviews. Deep fill, tub brake- independent agitator, and a normal cycle takes less than a half-hour. And it gets the clothes clean.

Still working perfectly with no problems!
Haha.
LOL!!!!
jaykay18 you may be right about cost-cutting too. And Ironically these new machines are more expensive
There's nothing ironic about CORPORATE AMERICAN GREED, and it seems that's exactly what we're dealing with here.
jaykay18 You’re right. And unfortunately it will probably just keep getting worse
you just said everything I’ve been thinking for so long.
Right? A lot of stuff I said in that video still holds true today! The good one is the TC 5 ;)
Listen here,
I have one of these newer 2018 speed queens and they're not bad at all. Everyone is just being hysterical.
You even said yourself that has double the horsepower!
SQ2017= 1/2 hp.
New Queens= 1 full HP.
I'll agree with you it doesn't wash as well as the older ones,
but here is were you're wrong.
I remember those! I'm sure they will keep them for a long time.
I just purchased a TC5 for that reason. I just can’t picture a group of Speed Queen engineers watching the wash action of their TR series and saying, “yup, we nailed it”.
Right? They were not right in the head at all.
Have to agree with you. After seeing the pitiful wash action of the new machines it makes me glad I pulled the trigger and got my 8 series washer in Sept. Now I really think I need to get the matching dryer before they are gone. I'm going to need a second dryer once I get the old Maytag going again.
Oh yeah. Get the dryer when ya can. Would be cool to have them match!
Sharkie626 Is the dryer door supposed to be so tough to open and close? it's kind of hard on me!
If you mean latch and unlatch, yeah it's okay to be like that. But if you mean it's movement? That shouldn't be hard at all.
Sharkie626 yeah. I mean latch and unlatch. will it get easier over time?
Possibly. It's good to have a strong latch though.
Compared to the maytag top loader i had for 3 days, this Speed Queen is amazing. The clothes get clean and it fills with water helping to get the dog hair etc off.
Do ya mean the 2017 and earlier? It sure is amazing!

If you were able to sit in on SQ classes you could learn a lot of the reasons why.
it's about energy savings - engineers design stupid things which interferes with operations and stupid govt people approve it - like smart meters, etc - they did same with hot water tanks too - the heat traps -
Caveat, Clattering Noises
If you can hear an annoying rattling sound, especially at night, suspect what are known as heat-trap nipples.
Are you serious?
Speed queen just re-released the classic for 2019. Salesman said just like my awn432. A friend is buying one.
Yeah I saw! Great move by them. Kirk Rivas has a video on it. I left a comment.
Just bought one, been using it for almost two weeks. cleans great, and the normal cycle is a bit under a half-hour.
Also, very cool user name, and awesome to see another 2006 joiner! :D
Sharkie626 thanks bro. The used washer market is about to get a huge influx of customers they can thank SQ for that.
I think the same thing happened when Whirlpool stopped with their direct drives, but I think this will have a bigger effect!
Not really. Thankfully there are plenty of ways to get around this newer inferior washer technology.
@@Sharkie626 I am sick and tired of the stupid new technology. Some things are just better left alone! SMH!
Man, I'm glad you made this video. I've been wanting a Speed Queen for a while but didnt know about the 2018 changes. It's back to the ole drawing board.
Used markets are your friend!
@@Sharkie626 that's what I'm starting to realize. So basically, 2017 and previous years are a safe bet for SQ's?
@@tacodude286 Yeah, any of the AWN models.
Thanks!!!!
History is repeating itself!
Actually the new 2018 model cleans better than the old one in lab testing.
What about with the best laundry detergent and fabric softener? I'd use the max soil level on the heavy duty setting.
Well I hope it serves her well!
Yeah the TC 5 is okay, but lacks a lot of what this had.
Nice Video, What Model numbers should I be looking for from last year? For the 9 series
I believe it is AWNE92SP113TW01. I hope ya find one! Some dealers still have it I think.
Thanx forgot to ask about the dryer. Is it a ADEE9RGS?
Yep that's right! If you want the gas model, it's ADGE9RGS
I am willing to bet your used one can easily be fixed when it needs it!
You mean Trump. This change with the formula calculation happened during Trump's reign.
I can't quite agree with that because I remember when Obama told the American ppl to buy American products. Which sq is an American brand.
MAGA🇺🇸
The TC5000WN. Newly available from SQ, does deliver a true hot wash without mixing cold. Independent agitator, tub brake on the transmission, available deep fill. and a cycle runs under a half-hour. Best of all, it actually gets my grimy work jeans clean.
All modern washers and dryers had downgraded
That's an understatement!
That is the dirty truth!
Awesome that it's giving ya good results! :D
Oh I can believe it! I see many comments about people asking if there are any 2017 models remaining.
Sharkie626 do you know where I can find a awn432???
You'll have to check your dealers for that.
Hey that's great! Glad you got one!
The TC is not bad, but it’s nowhere near as versatile as the 9 series was.
Our 2016 SQ washer is not very good. Back to Maytag next time!
What's wrong with it?
Another recommendation for a good washer: Frigidare Unimatic from 1930 - 1979 I mainly recommend getting the "Rapid Dry Machiens" These one's spun at 1140 RM, Yeah, You did't Relly need a dryer. XD
I remember those machines. Honestly though, they never really interested me. While reliable, I heard that when something had to be fixed, they were a nightmare to work on.
Sharkie626 Yeah, I think I've been watching to many of those vids
So glad I got my 2017 model from my distributor. They had it returned from a customer because of a small dent in the left rear corner, that was not even visible in his particular configuration. My distributor sold it to me for $615! I'm good for the next 20 years, or so.
Yep! You should be all set!
Help?
A used Whirlpool direct drive is the best one these days.
If you're looking for a new washer that's basic and simple and that works, the Speed Queen TC5000 series is highly recommended.
Its a good thing Speed Queen saw the mistake they made and the error of their ways and have reverted to the 2016 design again.
Oh yeah, I'm almost certain they saw this video too.
Where in the video did I say I bought the 2018 machine?
What about the LWN432S models? These are considered commercial washers. Did they get trashed too?
I think they are still good. I don't like the lack of water level adjustment though.
To be fair, that can happen to any machine that sits in storage with no use for a very long time.
What do you think of the TR3000? Can't get the 432 any longer. Do you recommend any Speed Queen?
Not these days. If you want a good washer today, look at used markets.
It’s not as good as this 9-series, but it’s much better than the TR machines.
That explains why my old whirlpool lasted 18 years until it started falling apart. My speed queens parts started going out in a few years. A set of whirlpool cost me the same as a speed queen washer.
What was happening with the Whirlpools? Assuming it was a direct drive, they are usually easily fixed!
@@Sharkie626 no more heat. I bought some parts for it,but decide just to buy a new set. Didn't want to try and repair it to just break down again.
@@yathao8395 Aww too bad. It actually probably would have lasted a while longer! But hopefully what you have now is good.
@@Sharkie626 well, I think not on par with the older set. Some if the wash cycle setting has stop working. I just use the setting that still works until it is completely broken and get a new switch.
Thank you so much for your honest review. I learned so much. ♡
You are very welcome!
Thank you.
Some seem to like them. Me personally, I haven't liked FL machines in the residential area.
Thanks for your reply. I found a SQ AWN432SP113TW04 in my area yesterday and scooped it up. Seems they're not easy to find nowadays. Really appreciated your review.
Oh good! That's the mechanical control model. You won't be disappointed!
I still have my 1993 Whirlpool Direct Drive washer and it still runs very well. If I get a new washing machine I would go for another Whirlpool or Kenmore Direct Drive washer from the used market.
Exactly the right thing to do! Or you can probably repair the 1993 machine. Direct drive parts will be around for years.
heck yea! whirlpools are awesome. thats what my new glasstop stove is :)
Have had my Whirlpool heavy duty since 1986! I wonder if the new WP will last as long?
1986?? Wow, that's the first year they came out! Pretty awesome! The new WPs last as long as that? Not a chance!
yes, it amazes me.
Don't worry. I'm sure your direct drive will go on for years! And sure check out that video again! Amazing it's been 6 years since I made it.
Already watched it and loved it as usual!
That's good to know! It tells ya something how crazy these older machines are selling now.
Where did you find one?
Carolyn Orner call Harpers Appliances in Ellicott City, MD. They might still have some in stock!
Well, if I'm going to get a Speed Queen washing machine, it's going to have to be an older, used model.
2019 TC5000WN, model number AWN632SP116TW01. Check out the reviews online. Just bought one, and so far it's great.
A very good move. Most reliable and easiest to service machine ever!
Do you guys recommend the matching dryer? I've had the washer for a year and would like to get have the matching dryer if it's worth it. They are clearancing out the 2017 models at my local appliance store to make room for the 2018s
Sure! I think it works well.
It's hard to screw up a dryer. Well, maybe the Fisher-Paykel top-loader, but it was a daring attempt.
If you have to have brand new, go for the Maytag MVWP575GWH. Better than the 2018 SQ and will turn your clothes over. Comparable warranty as well. SQ is finished as far as I'm concerned.
That washer is no longer sold is very old.
Good choice! That will outperform that LG by far!
Is it possible for this design to improve for the better or is a brand new design needed for their next gen washer? These strict regulations suck! Glad I bought my Speed Queen TL in August.
Only way to improve is to go back to how yours and mine were designed.
Got it at just the right time. Keep it!
Janel in NJ
Your best bet is used markets. Either an older Speed Queen, or Whirlpool direct drive. I’m sure you can find some!
Sharkie 626: My 1986 WP HD direct drive is still going strong. If it does go, are there any new direct drive washers out there?
You’d have to go to used markers for them, but many parts are still plentiful.
Just put money down on a new left over 2017 AWN432 washer and a ADG3 dryer. The local SQ dealer (WI) still has a couple 432's left, but I got the last matching dryer. He sold two of the 432's today and doesn't expect them to last long.
Good that ya got it when you did! They should last ya a long time.
The Maytag Commercial is a good machine too. It may replace Speed Queen in that area.
It seems okay, but it has a ton of stuff that I don't like.
A very good point!
They all need to go back to the old school belt drive system like the whirlpools from the 80s
So is this washer's motor 1 full hp? Or is it the exact same as the front loaders? Because the latter is .9hp.
The transmission model motors are 1/2 HP
@@Sharkie626 D'oh my bad, I meant to say the TR models.
@@OckGypsy Ah gotcha. Yeah TR is 1 HP.
@@OckGypsy Yeah that would make the most sense.
I use tide pods original and downy april fresh for my laundry and I use clorox bleach for whites.
using bleach in a washer is nasty and its NOT needed, the bleach from the previous load does not drain and some still sits in the basket and will be re-circulated on the next wash, had this happen when someone used
bleach and the next load was a normal wash and some of the close had white spots where there was color ,
i always think you people who need it brighter white then the sun are suffering from OCD !! its just disgusting ! I DO NOT allow bleach to be used in my washer, its a dangerous and harsh chemical and also
cause pre-mature wear on clothing, because bleach slowly eats away at the closes, just because you need your clothing
brighter white then the sun!
Just came across this video: th-cam.com/video/s7T5sjwVV9c/w-d-xo.html.
I think they weren't selling too well.
Good to know. I was eventually looking to get a speed queen for a 2nd washer to go next to the old maytag washer. I am now going to pass on speed queen.
Yep. Just stick with used markets.
Speed Queen supposedly improved on their wash action, according to them. I have to see it to believe it.
Now they're gonna agitate at 2.5 revolutions back and forth! What does this say about Speed Queen?
Our sales have increased and we have to have yet to have a warranty call other than our normal customer using to much soap. We are having our third truck load delivered next week.
How do they clean if they don't turn your clothes over?
@Albert Carello Yes they do. 3 Tables spoons in a top load and 2 in a front load. I carry a measuring spoon in my bag daily to show customers.
Sounds like your describing an old Maytag Washer A512.. it also has a bolt on agitator and pump like you described
Yeah that it does! Only difference is, that washer's pump is belt driven too.
You are right. We are regressing. But people are actually happy to buy washers that don't clean as well, and take longer to clean. All because of the little bells, whistles, and lights!
Yeah. It’s pretty pathetic for sure.
We need a new washer. We were going to get a Speed Queen. I guess not. Thank you.
Get the TC5000WN. It has the transmission and agitator.
Here's a thought.
What if they're going to be selling these new things alongside the old style ones? Like, these new turds will be the high end ones, and the tried and true ones will be the lower-end models?
If only. But I'm very certain that's not gonna be the case
It ain't gonna happen!
The TC is still selling luckily
New Doe energy regulations. Hopefully trump does something. these new washers cost a lot.
I'm not totally convinced that was completely the reason why. Whirlpool did their drastic change in 2011, and the regulations weren't as crappy then.
Frigidaire agitub or this?
Glad I bought my 2015 set when I did! By the same token, the new machines should be given a chance!
Your 2015 set should do you well! I think they already were given a chance. I waited until there were videos of just how the new machine will operate. After I saw the cycle vids, I knew they would be a no go.
I literally just about to buy a 2018 SQ and then I saw this video. So do I need to find a 2017?
Some dealers may have some remaining, but it's getting pretty low now. Used markets could be promising too.
The 2018 machine works great, I have sold hundreds of these top load washers and no complaints.
What I see on the new ones is they don't clean clothes good .Still not seeing a lot of break downs ?
