I was an Appliance repairman for 27 years and this video is accurate. I would buy either one of those washing machines. Anything else is a waste of your money.
Thanks for this comparison. I have the TR-7 and love it. Clean clothes and no repairman. Went through junky Maytag and LG and got so frustrated with the low quality and need for repair.
We purchased a TR7/DR7 pair in March 2023. The machines are incredible ! We purchased the TR7 since it is more gentle on the clothes. Great informative video !!
@@Vaani81 The speed queen website has a "where to buy" button that shows local places selling them. My understanding is the big box stores do not sell these, you have to go to a more local place.
Great video explaining the differences between the TC and TR series. Our family has had the previous generation of the TC series (AWN) since 2013 and have absolutely no issues with the washer or dryer. I highly recommend the TC series if you are looking for an old school washer
Eighteen months ago I bought a TR5 and I love it. It's amazingly quiet and gets the clothes clean. It spins much faster than our old Kenmore did so the dryer cycle is faster (even on low heat). The combination of the TR5's gentleness and the dryer's low heat has extended the life of our clothes.
We have had a Speed Queen for 2.5 years - the TC5 model - we debated between TC5 and TR7 and went with TC5 due to simplicity. Even so, speaking as an engineer, I will say you can't go wrong with Speed Queen. Choose whatever model you like. If I had to make the choice all over I might even go with the front load model, but this is what we got and it works very well. A friend of my wife's was visiting from the East Coast and she was amazed how clean her clothes got!
Yup, my washer and dryer are 25+ years old still work fine without all the eco crap. Replaced a heat coil in the dryer once and agitator dogs in the washer once. Do laundry once a week. Gold. I could probably sell them for what they sold as new honestly.
When my Whirlpool top loader from 1978, found the original receipt taped to the back of it when we bought the house it came with, started leaking grease out of the transmission and I got rid of it in 2010. My brother gave me his Speed Queen top loader that he was replacing with a Samsung. His Samsung broke 4 years later, and he asked me if the Speed Queen was still working, I told him it was working great. That was a good washing machine, didn't have any issues with it, have no idea how old it was but it was working fine when we sold the house in 2015. Definitely was a little harder on the clothes with the stainless-steel drum vs the porcelain drum the Whirlpool had. Nothing is built to last like it was back in the day...
I had an SQ gas dryer that lasted over 49 years before it was damaged by smoke and water by a house fire. The GE washer... well, lasted only a few years between motor/clutch/transmission/pump replacements. Most people would have replaced it ten times during those 49 years.
Purchased (2018) a TR5 washer because I wanted the commercial washer dependability. But after 6 years of normal use the unit developed a knock. I called a local repair technician. He diagnosed a bad bearing. He said it was not cost effective of $1155 verses $1429 for a new unit. The tech said the drum bearing and transmission and tub would have to be replaced.Does this sound right. I had expected a longer life. at least 10 to 15 years.
Well considering the R series does not have a transmission that sounds suspect. It sounds like they don’t know exactly what to replace or they want to replace everything they touch as part of the service to maintain dependability. Maybe somewhere in between those two. You sure yours is a tr5 and not a tc5?
I don't buy into the quieter and gentler justifications. Those are diversionary and unimportant compared to cleaning and longevity. Get the traditional model, the TC.
I have been washing my clothes for over 50 years and have never worried about "gentle" and never had a problem with my clothes being harmed. That is just paranoia propagated by washing machine marketers.
An older couple was selling their home and needed to also sell their 2011 TC3 S.Q. W&D set. About $275. After the nuclear apocalypse the only thing still living may be cockroaches and Speed Queens.
We had a front loading Frigidaire and after many repairs switched to the TR model of Speed Queen. We have been happy with it. Not a big fan of the lod lock, but it washes everything just fine.
@@gloriamontgomery6900 you won’t regret it. Its a tank . I have two. The front loader and the tr 7. Im happy with both. I got tired of failing washers after a few years
My 90yr old mother has had a TC series for over 10 years. Two years ago we had to have the balance ring, which is located under the top panel and surrounds the drum, replaced because the washer would walk away from the wall where it is located. I was very careful to re-level the machine and provided the shock absorbing rings for underneath the feet. The new balance ring lasted
The TR-5 and TR-7 both have a hand wash cycle that is extremely delicate. I own a dry cleaners and I have a TR-5 in my plant, it does an excellent job with the delicates on the hand wash cycle. Highly recommend that model.
I purchased the TC500WN dryer and matching washer. I love the washer but hate the dryer. It has an open lint catcher, every time I open the door something falls in there and it’s full of lint. I purchased it in 2021, today is 2024 and my dryer is no longer drying. It does come with a 5 year warranty but it’s just the point.
I was told by a washer repairman that residential models are not meant for comforters. Perhaps a laundromat, where larger-capacity washers are available, would be safer? That’s what I do seasonally.
@@curlybibliophagist Thanks. I got a TR because the agitator and the basket move together so it is the water that moves through the clothes more than the clothes through the water. I think. I tried a comforter and it came out okay but it wasn't spun as dry as I'd've liked. I'll read the manual again and make sure I understood how the TR decides when to throttle its spin speed. I am disappointed that the end of cycle buzzer , well, I've never heard it. I think it must be the same quiet beep the machine makes when you choose the settings. I would really like to hear when it is done as I'm certainly doing something else and want to get the load into the dryer then, not tomorrow morning when I'm looking for my favorite shirt.
I purchased a set of Speed Queens it is a TC model but has a fancier buttons that are electronic not dial I wish our service guy was as knowledgeable as this guy, our guy was a disaster, dangerous, I am surprised the Fire Department didn't just follow him around. How do you know if you did not get that one bad year Speed Queen?
If there was more real competition it would mitigate the problem, too many brands are owned by one company, and there's probably collision b/w all the companies to make shitty appliances that don't last long.
The very best review regarding the differences between the TC and TR washing machines. Thank you for spending the time to help us make a decision.

All of us that are of a certain age and income know that older machines worked much better and are much more reliable. I'm ordering the TC machine.
