I want to do the opposite, but I do wonder if I'll regret getting rid of my FK8. My reason for wanting to get the manual a90 Supra is because I'm losing interest in having a 4 cylinder and a 4 door (or 5 door if you include the hatch) car. I miss having a coupe. I miss having a more compact car. Ive driven Honda for 23 years. My FK8 is FBO with all PRL mods at 400whp on a Dynojet. Lowered on 18's with 265 wide tires as well. The car is a lot of fun to drive. The Supra looks nice and it is easy to make power, and for my age, I think the inline 6 engine and exhaust sound will be more for me these days. With the Supra, I'm hoping the Steering response feels as good as the Type R, and also, that it doesn't feel loose. The seats are also something i wonder about. I like that the Type R feels like its hugging me. I don't get the parking though. The Type R gets a lot of attention. I'd never park in crowded areas with either car. I don't mind a long walk if I park far away from other cars. Hell, on the Type R group pages on Facebook, so many people for some odd reason, park near people, and always have rubs, dents, and other things from either haters, or people who can't drive. Wven with my concerns, I still want to sell my FK8 for a manual Supra.
Wow! I mean, what ever you gotta do that makes you happy. That's what you gotta do. Personally I definitely understand the part where you said you made all this power and if your not gonna go Drag racing. Than what's the point. I remember I had a friend who swapped the Turbo to large Turbocharger. But the turbo has so much lag that it really made the car not streetable if that's even a thing. When the power came on!! It hit so Hard that he really couldn't stay on it! In fear of loosing the back end. That turbo was either on or off!! But once it hit ..it was like Christ ..scary! Definitely your car was beautiful! And sounded absolutely amazing! Stay safe!
Haha that’s exactly how the Supra was. Once that turbo hit it got wild. Can’t use all that power on the street…the older I get the more I am starting to appreciate the cars that are more simple…lightweight, manual, can put miles on them, and just fun to drive
Bro people don't realize what this car feels like with 420-450HP. It's an absolute beast and the perfect numbers for usable power without traction issues. Do yourself a favor and make upgrading your fuel system one of your first priorities. You're going to need it to get where you want to be. DW in tank pump, HPFP and injectors. That will give you a ton of HP range depending on what Turbo you go with. As well as ethanol will ruin the oem LPFP sooner than later.
I’ve owned a manual and auto GR Supra, and 3 Type Rs. Currently have a 21 Type R. Both are great cars really, but the Type R is more fun and glad I have it
Uh…so every reason you listed for getting rid of the Supra still apply to the Type R. Mileage concerns, parking concerns, etc. You just wanted the Type R, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Personally, I’d take a manual Supra over the Type R any day of the week.
Appreciate the video very much! The type R is plenty fast in a straight line and in the curves, plus it gets great gas mileage and can stop on a dime. The type R is a great all around package for its price point. Ive had my FK8 since 2020 and I was considering my next car could be a supra. But after watching this video, maybe it wont be the car for me. I might have to get a used 911 since it has a backseat and is more about the driving experience. But who knows? Thanks again for posting!!!
The Titan TS-5 wheels(18 inch) along with the same size rubber as the new Type R fits perfectly within the fenders…no wheel rub etc. if you ever want bigger stickier shoes!😁👍
Just my two cents but…Try looking into Phearable Stage 2 Tune or Stage 3 if you opt for the Hondata Fuel System. Stage 2 is not expensive and you will feel a noticeable change in a few areas. I’ve spoken to a few tuners/aftermarket parts makers and they consistently agree that the factory air box/inlet is the best engineered/performance unless you’re looking for a cosmetic change. The Hondata MAF sensor(60% increase in airflow) is a must along with a less restrictive aftermarket downpipe to eliminate choke point. Mitsubishi Stage 2 Turbo,HKS Solid Boost Pipe,Aftermarket Intercooler,Koyorad Radiator etc. Enjoy!!!
I’m sitting around 340 wheel with just intake and flex fuel kit on hondata and even that pulls good. You’ll be beating most street cars. Can’t wait to make more power tho
I would assume that’s where I’m at with the base Hondata tune and the PRL HVI intake. The car already feels quick! Can’t wait to add a little more power
Drove a 2022 Supra (AT) for two days after thinking about putting a deposit for a 2023 MT. After maybe 10 miles I came to the conclusion it’s not the right car for me. Honestly I was looking at the RS3’s but it probably would have given me the same experience as the Supra. Really fast but lacking driver fun and engagement. One day I’ll probably end up getting one though
Type R is simply a true track car, a FWD Porche GT3 when tuned. Supra is just a Sports car, it is fas, big engine but that’s about it similar to a Mustang GT. Type R is also much more reliable, cheaper to maintain and work on it as it is a simple 4 cyl.
The Honda is fine with wear and tear. Okay, except for the tires. But tires in most performance cars have a short life. And yes, the seats in the Type R are phenomenal.
