Hi! I do think if you take all the graphic design classes you do get well prepared and I have lots of friends that did end up working with graphic design post grad. I would say that if you attend UC Davis for Graphic design keep in mind that that the design major will be the Bachelor of Arts in "design" not "Graphic design" when you receive your degree. I know other schools offer graphic design majors specifically and maybe more of a specific classes. Davis offers all kinds of design classes to choose from where you can pick all graphic design classes if thats the type of design you want to do. That's something I loved because I got more experience beyond just graphic design but that is just me. :)
Do you already need to know how to use adobe photoshop, illustrator, etc. and have good drawing skills to enter the design major at UC Davis? Or do you learn that all while you’re there? I’m in high school and thinking about majoring in design, but I’m confused about what level I must be at to study design. Thanks so much for this video!
as a transfer student they require certain courses to get into the program but as a freshman no, you start with the required courses at UC Davis which include the photoshop, illustrator, drawing courses so you will learn there! & No worries! Feel free to ask any questions, I’d love to help!
Alexandra thank you so much for replying! I was planning on studying engineering in college, but I’m currently taking physics and calc and I’m not the biggest fan, so I thought design could be more for me. I am just nervous about going into it because I haven’t taken any art classes in high school (I’m currently a junior) because I always thought I would go into engineering. Do you think I should definitely take an art class for my senior year? Also, how well are you able to connect with and talk/ask questions with your professors? I know UC Davis is a big school, so I was concerned that there could be a lack of communication with professors. And finally, are you able to participate in any extracurricular activities? I would love to be able to participate in club sports while I’m at college. Sorry for all the questions at once, and thanks again for the video and your help!!
@@claireo.7352 I was actually majoring in math before I discovered design at my community college lol! I totally get what you mean. I definitely think you should take an art class your senior year. The design program at Davis is very broad but you get to choose what type of design classes you want to take after you complete the standard required ones which is what helps you determine what type of design you want to focus on. Aside from the required classes which are the big classes, the rest of the classes are a good size for you to be able to talk to and connect with your professors and especially your TA. There is always office hours for all design classes so I never saw building a connecting/asking questions to your professor as a problem! I would think the general courses that are non design would be harder to speak to professors possibly just because those are the courses that are the biggest in size. Yes you can definitely participate in extracurricular activities, I joined a soccer team with my club which was fun! The main thing is managing your time because I feel like there's a lot to do but sometimes with all the work, it can be a lot but its doable! Glad to help! My first UC Davis video is also on my channel which might help too: th-cam.com/video/8BGUyUswH_M/w-d-xo.html
Hi! Tysm for this video! I really enjoyed and learned a lot from it!! I’m an Anthro major and transfer student, but I really want to double major with Design! Do you think it’s doable!? I don’t have much experience in drawing but I have some experience in photography, graphics, and video editing! Which is why I want to learn more!
happy to help! I don't know much about the workload for Anthro majors but based on your experience i feel like you would do amazing in the design program! i also feel like you're super interested in design and the creative aspect so i would definitely recommend to major in design! and if you're also interested in anthro then definitely do both, hoping that both workloads aren't too much, but i definitely recommend taking some design courses! hope this helped!! :)
Omg!! I’m in the exact same situation!! I’m planning to major in anthropology and design, and especially since I would be a transfer student, I don’t have much information to see if it’s doable or not.
Hey! So I am a transfer student making my final decision. My intention is to do Graphic Design. However, since UCD doesn't have that exact major, I went and chose the Design major at Davis. I've heard from people saying that apparently, UC graduates ended up having trouble finding jobs even after earning their associate's degrees and ended up having to go back to community college. Do you believe there is any truth to this? Thank you!
Hey! I do totally understand that concern and have seen it and experienced it to be honest. What I have learned and what I try to emphasize to anyone going to college for a degree is to get an internship in their junior or senior year, that is honestly the best choice you can make that I wish i had done personally. But not just an internship at college but outside, like at companies or wherever you would like to work at in the future. This is something I wish i had known before. An internship during your junior or senior year is a huge guarantee that you will have a job offer right off college, i've seen this A LOT with friends in my own major and not in my major. Students who get an internship their junior or senior year at a company or startup have been able to get a job really quickly compared to those who haven't. I really hope this helped!!
Thank you so much! Your intake helped a lot! I'll definitely look into internships. Keep up the great videos and best of luck to you on the rest of your journey!
Have you since graduated? Can we get an update? How has it been post program?
Nice video! I want to be a graphic designer, do you recommend taking the design major for this?

Have you transferred yet? I’m curious about your experience with trying to double major in anthropology and design at UC Davis. 🤗
