Hey Edward, thanks for sharing your TH-camr journey to us and showing both sides of being a TH-camr. I used to be an avid fan of CantoMando when I was still a freshman. I would binge-watching ALL of your videos every day and even learned Mandarin from the subtitles! I graduated a year ago and already work now, time really flies so fast! Sheldon who still had no clue about Mandarin, you three did Mandarin/Cantonese song reaction/challenge videos (I still remember the Jay Chou one really clearly though, it's soooo funny😂). I would like to thank three of you for being persistent no matter how hard the journey is. You guys have grown up sooo much, and so have your fans :) I do hope you could do more videos that align with your passion and interest + your amazing friendship would last forever. 加油~
I remember watching canto mando a couple years back and loved the chemistry of you guys and always made me laugh. Watching this video really inspired me, thank you Edward for sharing your perspective. Wish you the best of luck!
What's crazy about this is, there are multitudes of people lining up to do the same thing as you did. I'm thinking of quitting TH-cam so I can do my job properly.
I've been watching Cantomando ever since you guys were at 20k subs and your rise the fame is really inspiring! Your story is indeed super motivational and inspirational, and you definitely showed that it was NOT easy at all! Despite the stereotype that being a TH-cam is really easy and all LUCK, it isn't in reality! I really like the path your going on this separate channel, showing others how to grow their channels! Thanks for this video, its really inspiring and it helps me keep going!
yeah i really hate this movement of "just quitting". Like there is no thoughts on improving discipline, mental health, career improvement, etc. Or why not just KEEPING your 9-5 job and doing youtube on the side/weekend. There is plenty of time for all of that
Started a number of channels 14 years ago. Wouldn't quit my job over it, even though I have made good steady progress. If you have any job - just hold onto it. Add to it, if you can, but do not go around fixing things that aren't broken. TH-cam is an algorithm that employs people, essentially. If you ever worked for a large corporation, where your identity meant nothing - this is the same, only much larger. And AI will be making decisions about your wellbeing. Do you want that to control your life? Do you want a computer program to dictate how you live and whether you get to have rent next month or not? I'd not do that, no matter how successful I am with content. Even if youtube paid more than the regular job (which it doesn't), I still wouldn't quit.
Thank you for this. I think people really need to realize this that sometimes you need to make mistakes while you're young because we learn from them as we get old.
I quit working for others and did become a millionaire. Don't knock it! Quitting allowed me time to persue oppurtunities that popped up. Sure, it was scary. I didn't go to college so had no starter knowledge. I learned as I went. Oh, having a couple of million these days is just getting by! The goal posts have moved.
Hey Edward, thanks for opening up about what it was like when you guys took the step to being a FT TH-camr. It really is inspiring! Love the videos on CantoMando and will continue to support you guys!
I liked the video, but the title is misleading. While technically correct (I know, it's the best kind of correct), colloquially, people assume something lost is gone for good. If you lose your phone and then find it again, it's not truly lost. You "lost" your friendship, but it blossomed again? Then it's not lost. Just changed.
Of course it's misleading...These guys studied how to optimize titles and thumbnails for maximum clicks. Part of being a successful TH-camr is knowing how to do great attention grabbing marketing.
Sorry to hear this bad news. It is good you stand as an example of what not to do. TH-cam and TikTok can guarantee you are unemployable unless your boss thinks it is a good idea because you are making the company and or community look good.
This is why having a really good manager is very important for any business endeavours the person who will see it from the 3rd person perspective and who would dictate the final decision making is very important
I don’tunderstand why people do that, nothing lasts forever. You hit a high but like anything else in life, it will eventually come down. Take it as a supplement revenue but not the main.
Congrats on your success. It took lot, lot, and lot of sweat before star comes to our life. Thanks for your sharing your success, wish you all the lucks on your path, and awesome prospects in your choice 👏.
I just started and never plan on quitting but it would be very nice to have the option because my channel actually makes money. Good luck to folks who just started! I started last week.
All i got to say is I'm glad you didn't give up on your TH-cam career/channel and this inspire me because you have to make yourself happy with your own choices in life and if other people don't support it you have to prove them wrong and thank you Edward for sharing your story and if you are reading this can you tell Mike and Sheldon i said hello
I could relate to your story , since I also do TH-cam . I find that the hardest part of TH-cam , is getting your channel to take off . To add to the burden , I'm running my channel alone .
As a USA medical card holder, you may face challenges obtaining medical cannabis in Japan. Here's what you need to know: 1. Reciprocity: Japan does not have a reciprocity agreement with the US regarding medical cannabis. This means that your US medical card is not directly recognized in Japan. 2. Japanese medical system: To access medical cannabis in Japan, you would need to consult a Japanese doctor and go through the country's medical system. This can be challenging, especially if you don't speak Japanese. 3. Limited medical cannabis program: Japan has a limited medical cannabis program, which is only available for specific conditions, such as epilepsy and cancer pain. Even if you have a US medical card, you may not qualify for Japan's program. 4. CBD products: If you're looking for CBD products, some Japanese companies offer CBD oils and other products that contain less than 0.3% THC. These products are legal in Japan and can be purchased without a prescription. If you're a US medical card holder traveling to Japan, consider the following options: 1. Consult a Japanese doctor: If you have a qualifying condition, consult a Japanese doctor to explore options for accessing medical cannabis in Japan. 2. Bring your medication: If you have a valid prescription, you may be able to bring your medical cannabis medication to Japan. However, ensure you comply with Japanese customs regulations and declare the medication upon arrival. 3. Research CBD products: Look into Japanese CBD products that are legally available and may help alleviate your symptoms. Please note that Japanese laws and regulations regarding medical cannabis are subject to change. It's essential to stay informed and consult with relevant authorities or medical professionals for the latest information.
You always hear about those that risked it and made it that you sometimes forget there are some who tried and failed and lost everything. Luckily this is a story with a happy ending but that is not always the case for everyone. Glad yours worked out though.
As of now, no Asian country has fully legalized recreational cannabis. However, some countries have decriminalized or relaxed laws regarding cannabis: 1. Cambodia: Decriminalized cannabis in 2020, allowing personal use and possession of small amounts. 2. Thailand: Decriminalized cannabis in 2022, allowing personal use and possession of small amounts. (Note: While Thailand has relaxed laws, recreational use is not explicitly legal.) 3. South Korea: Allows medical cannabis, but recreational use remains illegal. 4. Singapore: Has a strict zero-tolerance policy towards cannabis, with severe penalties for possession and use. 5. Indonesia: Has strict laws against cannabis, with penalties including imprisonment and even death. 6. Malaysia: Has relaxed laws regarding medical cannabis, but recreational use remains illegal. 7. Philippines: Has a medical cannabis program, but recreational use is not allowed. 8. Vietnam: Has decriminalized cannabis, but recreational use is not explicitly legal. Please note that laws and regulations regarding cannabis are subject to change, and this information might not be comprehensive or up-to-date. Always research and consult local authorities for the latest information before using or possessing cannabis in any country.
We all have flaws, problem and stack of mistakes which we have committed but that does not really define who we are. Despite all the challenges of life the resilience and the hope of our future pushes us forward and you are a true example of that. Stay strong and look forward with a big smile coz you still have miles to go before you rest. Love you❤
What was his TH-cam channel? Weird that he never mentions it. Also a huge part of his success was paying this TH-cam coach. Now he sells courses about being a TH-cam creator. Seems fishy. Seems like he made this video just to sell his course
Yep with his current subs numbers on this channel I am surprised at his 1 million sub claim. I would think his sub number would be at least 20K+ for any second channel given he claims to have 1 million on another channel... unless I missed something.
CantoMando. It does have 1 million+ subscribers. I watched it when it had informative videos on learning Cantonese and Mandarin in a humorous way. I haven't kept up with the mukbang stuff, or K-pop vids, or makeup tutorials. As he mentions in this video, yeah, that was kind of a weird direction, and not the reason I watched in the first place. I do get that it must've really been scary to base your entire livelihood on Chinese culture content during the pandemic.
The but real question is why schools and colleges don't have a course on TH-cam 101 - Become a TH-camr Major BA and PhD courses. I mean, from all the successful stories out here on youtube, we're seeing teenagers and twenty somethings become millionaires. Meanwhile 99% of the students are being programmed to work 9-5 jobs and everyone has to figure it out on their own to leave the masses and take the path less traveled and make it on youtube.
I don't like stories like this, 🥴😵💫. It's starts off well enough, then, all of a sudden you get to 13:17. Where a "mysterious" $8,000 appeared from thin air to save the day. Makes no sense. Every time someone on YT tells a success story, mystery money always shows up to save the day when hard work fails. It's very DISCOURAGING and unrealistic. Where does this additional money come from?. How did spending the $8,000 effect you and the team during the time? How long until the $30,000 showed up? What did yall do in the meantime? What did you do with the $30,000? Also, 30,000 divided by 3 is $10,000 a piece nearly the same as what you started with. How is $10,000 success?. SMH... 😮too many holes in this story.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
Yes, Japan has laws regarding cannabis, also known as marijuana or weed. However, Japan has a strict drug policy, and cannabis is illegal for recreational use. Here are some key points about cannabis in Japan: 1. Illegal for recreational use: Cannabis is classified as a narcotic drug and is illegal for recreational use. 2. Medical use: Japan has a limited medical cannabis program, allowing the use of cannabis-based medications for specific medical conditions, such as epilepsy and cancer pain. 3. CBD products: CBD (cannabidiol) products are legal in Japan if they contain less than 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). 4. Penalties for possession: Possession of cannabis can result in severe penalties, including: - Up to 5 years in prison for possession - Up to 10 years in prison for cultivation or trafficking 5. Cultural significance: Cannabis has been used in Japan for centuries, particularly for its fiber (hemp) and medicinal properties. However, its recreational use has been stigmatized since the 20th century. It's essential to note that Japan's drug laws are strict, and even small amounts of cannabis can lead to severe consequences. If you're visiting or living in Japan, it's crucial to respect local laws and regulations regarding cannabis.

12:00 the thing is, nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so-if you could have seen your “day job” as the economic engine to fund your channel (in this scenario it’s actually good that it’s boring and not demanding) you can let the job give you the money and “runway” to give the side hustle time to grow.

Edward, you guys from CantoMando sent me here. 🙋🏻♂️🇺🇸🤝🇨🇦
Welcome !!!!! 🙏
13:06 uh oh… I haven’t finished this video yet… but my spider sense is telling me this dude is SELLING SOMEThing… like a mentoring program, a course, etc… we’ll see if I’m right by the end.
you are right. check the description of the video hes trying to sell youtube mentorship.
That's where I see it going. 😂
This scam artists has a channel with like 4300 subs, and claims he has a channel with millions? WTF is this crap. Bought views, and a fraud. Look at all the generic bot comments.
Proud of you guys. Saved my time. Thanks ❤😂
Man I love seeing others Awaken as well 😭.
It's not always about views or numbers
still remember those early 2017 years
TOTALLY get it about Asian Tiger moms 🤣🤣🤣. I’m actually surprised there are any Asian entrepreneurs at all! Unfortunately many traditional Asian parents don’t encourage their kids to experiment and explore the world on their own terms. Glad you made your channel successful!
“Thanks to our mentor” …this is starting to smell like an ad…
Hahahahahha
加油~
Thank you for your day 1 support!
I remember watching canto mando a couple years back and loved the chemistry of you guys and always made me laugh. Watching this video really inspired me, thank you Edward for sharing your perspective. Wish you the best of luck!
Thanks so much
Can’t work with close friends. We all got diff skills and experiences; last of all getting sick of a friend is real easy.
Thanks so much!!
You got 100k right out of college to enter data into a spreadsheet? What? These jobs normally pay minimum wage.
pretty sure he meant CAD
100K in Canada doesn't go very far. I could only imagine how much went to taxes with that universal healthcare they have.
we have to STOP normalizing quitting your job just to try out TH-cam, MAKE TIME.
yeah i really hate this movement of "just quitting". Like there is no thoughts on improving discipline, mental health, career improvement, etc. Or why not just KEEPING your 9-5 job and doing youtube on the side/weekend. There is plenty of time for all of that
@@weho_brian tragicomically , the cure for procrastination is being an employee , constantly supervised
instruction unclear, got fired instead.
Love the story, you got a sub from me bro god bless bro keep killing it
Thank you for this.
Very inspiring story Edward!
Hey Edward, thanks for opening up about what it was like when you guys took the step to being a FT TH-camr. It really is inspiring!
Love the videos on CantoMando and will continue to support you guys!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for telling both sides of the story. You are going to win.
I loved this. I am glad you and your friends made it. Friends since 7th grade you cannot replace that.
Wow! This is a kind of sh*t that am going through.
Sorry to hear this bad news. It is good you stand as an example of what not to do.
TH-cam and TikTok can guarantee you are unemployable unless your boss thinks it is a good idea because you are making the company and or community look good.
Great story, thanks for sharing!
This is why having a really good manager is very important for any business endeavours the person who will see it from the 3rd person perspective and who would dictate the final decision making is very important
Awesome story! My wife and I just started a new channel. Thank you for the inspiration because we are kind of in the same boat.
I don’tunderstand why people do that, nothing lasts forever. You hit a high but like anything else in life, it will eventually come down. Take it as a supplement revenue but not the main.
As someone with a similar upbringing, this video really hits
Congrats on your success.
It took lot, lot, and lot of sweat before star comes to our life. Thanks for your sharing your success, wish you all the lucks on your path, and awesome prospects in your choice 👏.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏It is good you’re back and finding the stability that you want.
Thank you for telling your story and have the balls to do it
Congrats bro!
Honestly your mom just sounded like a normal worried mom on the phone.
I just started and never plan on quitting but it would be very nice to have the option because my channel actually makes money. Good luck to folks who just started! I started last week.
Hell ya keep it up 👍
How with 11 subs 😅😅😅
@@dst3773 I just started last week. I have to start somewhere! I’m blessed to even have that many.
@@eleungg thank you!
exactly, a good attitude will get you far and you're on your way
I’m so glad your friendships are restored ❤
All i got to say is I'm glad you didn't give up on your TH-cam career/channel and this inspire me because you have to make yourself happy with your own choices in life and if other people don't support it you have to prove them wrong and thank you Edward for sharing your story and if you are reading this can you tell Mike and Sheldon i said hello
I could relate to your story , since I also do TH-cam . I find that the hardest part of TH-cam , is getting your channel to take off . To add to the burden , I'm running my channel alone .
As a USA medical card holder, you may face challenges obtaining medical cannabis in Japan. Here's what you need to know:
If you're a US medical card holder traveling to Japan, consider the following options:
Glad yours worked out though.
came here after realizing their tiktok account only shows Sheldon's face 😓
I can relate to your 100% instant noodles diet. All the best for your future!
As of now, no Asian country has fully legalized recreational cannabis. However, some countries have decriminalized or relaxed laws regarding cannabis:
1. Cambodia: Decriminalized cannabis in 2020, allowing personal use and possession of small amounts.
2. Thailand: Decriminalized cannabis in 2022, allowing personal use and possession of small amounts. (Note: While Thailand has relaxed laws, recreational use is not explicitly legal.)
This is so inspiring, especially with telling our asian mom. We all know we had a lot of pressure of doing great in society
Marketing click bait. Gotta give it to you
Having a TH-cam channel is a lot of work, and can be very stressful.
Its really good You did this Early before waiting 10 -20 years down the line when it would have been much harder to Quit your job
We all have flaws, problem and stack of mistakes which we have committed but that does not really define who we are. Despite all the challenges of life the resilience and the hope of our future pushes us forward and you are a true example of that. Stay strong and look forward with a big smile coz you still have miles to go before you rest. Love you❤
Most TH-camrs add nothing of value to society and many are counterproductive.
Entertainment.
You don’t need to add anything of value to society. No one asked to exist in this society. We don’t owe it anything.
It’s like tv programs and other entertainments but with more freedom to choose.
Great story man ! Happy it worked out !
Would love to ball with you again with the gang!
@@MidnightCoffee12 Again the problem is the channel we currently watch does not have 1 million subscribers so how do we know he is telling the truth?
Where's ur 1.1M youtube channel? This looks ike an ad to get u to sign up for coaching lessons
It's "Cantomando" look it up
Look at the description
Good for you, at least you tried so you know.
It's strange how companies ask for 3-5+ years of experience, just to move some data in excel around all day.
Loved this. Thanks for being vulnerable, this is super inspiring!
Hey, you were a really big success and you have everything to be proud of. And you're so handsome LOL
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Yes, Japan has laws regarding cannabis, also known as marijuana or weed. However, Japan has a strict drug policy, and cannabis is illegal for recreational use.
Here are some key points about cannabis in Japan:
4. Penalties for possession: Possession of cannabis can result in severe penalties, including:
- Up to 5 years in prison for possession
- Up to 10 years in prison for cultivation or trafficking
Throw a thumbs down 👎 so this isn't pushed out.
You tube and social media in general is augmented reality, not a reality itself, never forget that.
Thank you for sharing!!! Would love to also hear more about your experiences with working with best friends and starting TH-cam career/business together! What are some Do's and Don't's would you have?
I'll definitely cover some of those topics in future videos!
“I would pretend to work the rest of the day”… Office Space😂
so crazy how creators put so much thinking into youtube yet youtube dont think about creators once. 😢
You were just daring. You are a daredevil.
This is exactly where I’m at starting TH-cam not sure where to start…
Experiment, find people to do it with and learn lots!
So you become a motivational guru now...
Typical
12:00 the thing is, nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so-if you could have seen your “day job” as the economic engine to fund your channel (in this scenario it’s actually good that it’s boring and not demanding) you can let the job give you the money and “runway” to give the side hustle time to grow.
This is such a great story, so real, thanks for sharing!
Your journey forms you into who you become as a man. And the last thing that gets you there is mommy’s approval. And if you lose friends during a journey they weren’t friends in the first place. I have personally experienced that with my occupational choice. It’s the best decision in my life. I lost bad friends and gained real friends. And I’m in way more successful than my family imagined. And no, it wasn’t on TH-cam:)
Great video!
TH-cam is time consuming. I don't get paid for it. I just do it for fun. No one tells me when to do it. That's the best part.
That was one of many decisions you’ll make in life. Part of your story.
I don’t believe you achieved everything you have today just because you left your job. It’s really thanks to you and your friends convincing your TH-cam mentor to coach and guide you. What’s the name of your successful channel? Wishing you continued success!
Common sense Tip: Have some money saved up BEFORE you quit, just in case..
Glad it all worked out for all of you.
When you talked about reflecting on your death bed on how you wasted away your life at a boring office job, I really saw my own concrete thoughts expressed in a simple phrase of yours. Thanks bud
