@@dylanphelan3010very true. Unfortunately you have to ask yourself if that is truly a good answer though because it potentially sets the bar so low. Imagine saying "my hope in life is to work the counter at McDonald's." Not saying that's a bad thing. That definitely helped me...I spend the first 10 minutes each morning with no phone...just my tea and my thoughts and that it puts me into a better position to make good quality decisions throughout he day. Thanks for the great video Rob, another banger.
Yeah thats great man. Would even recommend extending that period to like first half hour or hour of your day not using your phone. Really makes you feel more grounded. That thing is so dangerous.
I learned so much about dopamine in the last couple of years but this is by far the most relatable, realistic and easily applicable way of talking about it…very nice video!
This is so weird. I am literally experiencing what you are explaining in this video 100% right now. I was on vacation and came back on Sunday, had thousands ideas and hat I wanted to do after returning and now just a couple days later I feel so tired and totally demotivated to basically barely do anything. I feel kinda depressed and your explanation makes a lot of sense now. Tysm! you earned yourself a new subscriber!
Dopamine battery! You have limited chemical potential prepped for one day. Surfing and procrastinating drains it on the short circuit mode. Peoples brains are like planes, that come without manual. Well . . . the good parents are the manual but it is not the rule
its not only that. humans are not suppose to live in cities but in nature. and explore and hunt. That is 90% of modern depression. not doing those natural things.
Very relatable. The dopamine chase is real, I hate it when I get stuck in it. It's so satisfying to start or finish something I've been putting off for a long time.
Very simple explanation, thank you. This is sadly the scary truth of modern life. There's just too much stimuli for us now, it's hard to adapt to the normal, laid back style of life.

same man, I'm 28 and I've been fighting these feelings for years now. i tried pushing myself, putting myself in uncomfortable position in order to get rid of these feelings, i forced myself to work, applying for better jobs, taking courses that i despises hoping that it'd open up job opportunity in order to take responsibility of my life, but... all never worked out, whatever i do, it never worked out, I'm very sorry to my mother that i couldn't be like a normal boy who could bear their responsibility, i just somehow always fail and it broke me down from someone who always had a positive outlook on the world to someone that's just nonchalant about it all. if it weren't for my friends I'd had pulled the trigger, instead i lost my best friend to depression last month, i promised to him that i will live on for him but... i came back to my old habits, I'm such a horrible person man. I'm just so lost in life.
@@ganyunyuu fighting against it is not the solution, see it as swimming against the current, you will get stuck on the same spot and only eats up your energy. try to spend that energy on other things, like what does make you really happy in life (work should not be the solution) and go from that point on and build up/grow. living the ideal live is also not you vision you should have in terms of working, making enough money to be able to buy you "happiness" happiness always comes from the inside! try to talk to other people, and you will see you are not the only one struugling with this same issues. you need to fail in life, and on the bottom to build up and learn from it so you can work on the new (better) you. and yes it can take very long and it will be a hard and rough road ahead, but just go with the flow and try to enjoy life, and don't loose faith in yourself because you are worth it like everyone else on this planet. I had the same thing happening a few days ago. Watching endless videos on youtube or doomscrolling on tiktok, just rotting in bed basically. Now I started training again and ordered parts to work on my car 💪🏻

Dry fasting taught me that health can be recovered and transformation can happen by doing nothing at all. Don't drink, don't eat, don't move much, don't even try to think. Just lay in a corner and do nothing for three days. Refeed and get some good electrolytes and do it again. Do that multiple times in a row and see how that resets your mind and body. And the spiritual element is also a big deal too.
Going through heartbreak, and i see no light in life anymore... she left for only selfish reasons. So it should be easy, to discard her mentally... but all i want is her presence and love. I just want a hug, not from anyone... but her. But she stopped caring about me, while i still see my whole world in her. She used me, for 6 years... for safety, and left when she didn't need it anymore.
Brother she left because you stopped loving yourself. Find yourself again in solitude spend time alone doing hard things to build your confidence back and you'll find a partner that appreciates you for who you really are. The more you paint the picture of her as your saviour the less she wants you in her life save yourself first then she will be nothing but a distant memory it will he her loss in the end.
More time will fix it. Your feelings change over time. You will not feel this way forever. Also, try not to judge your feelings as good or bad. Acknowledge them and let them pass through you.

I badly needed hear this thank you. I'm 30 and have been badly struggling with the exact issues you described here my whole life. Reality has been really crashing down on me lately that my life will always be mediocre at best until I get a handle on this. TH-cam, social media, and doom scrolling are my biggest pitfalls. Getting just a couple productive things done each day feels like such an uphill battle for me. I've known about the "do nothing" method but needed a reminder of how well it works. I just gotta stay off the damn media. Thank you sir. Subscribed
Very relatable. I've chased dopamine excessively and obsessively most of my life, most recently through computer games. The crash in dopamine levels after a binge makes everything seem ludicrously, sometimes embarrassingly pointless. I definitely have a problem and have a lot of work to do,. Your video came up at the perfect time, Thank you for sharing your experiences, and may we all give ourselves the peace and time to reflect, so we become restless and productive.
I’m only 1:48 into video and I can relate. Obviously you tube knows I can because I’ve never seen your channel before, but yet there it was on top of my Home Screen. I will watch the rest of video now
i 100% can relate to all you said. Im in this phase at the moment. No close friends, no gf or someone. Distracting myself constantly with youtube. I often thought that its getting boring, but on the other side i have nothing or nobody to go to and to do something else => i went back and just switched to another game or researched some topic or started to sort stuff in my room or even sorting digital stuff on my computer.
That’s exactly the danger of distracting yourself: you have a void in your life in terms of having no relationship, no passion in your work or school, or no close friends and you start to fill that emptiness with distractions. The danger is that by distracting yourself, you will never actually do the things to upgrade your life. I can 100% relate to this though. Watching another TH-cam video, or even worse watching porn, is SO much easier than dealing with that anxious feeling when you just confront yourself with your current situation. But hey it’s just a matter of accepting those uncomfortable feelings and work with them. Good luck bro.

Man, you have no idea how much this video resonated with my life at the moment. This was exactly what I needed to hear. Ive watched a lot of self help videos over the years, but this one has without a doubt resonated the most with me. Watching this also came at a time where I was physically uncomfortable watching a movie when I really wanted to de-stress by watching porn. Quite honestly the message in the video was the biggest kick in the ass aha moment I have needed for a long time... Thanks so much for this Rob. Blessings to all here who watch the video. If there ever was a sign to change your life, this is it.
we've been all here sometimes. The trick is not to give up, even if the desire to give in is there. Tiredness for old vices is a blessing. If that did not happen, I am pretty sure I could never had those vices removed from me.
My Anxiety levels rised up since I got a smart phone too. It makes all sense what you are saying. Now I am researching about Dopamine levels. There are books about it. Thanks so much.
You need lots of dopamine all the time to be happy. Its not a joke. But you also need other things as well so make sure you get it from different sources.
Extremely random yet utterly profound video. Thank you. If I may add as a corollary: Don't scroll straight to the comments sections on youtube videos, watch the video and the author's message first to form your own impartial view. This is also very difficult to do, yet rewarding and more engaging. It's amazing how connected we all are at the end of the day, as you have shown here Rob. Thank you for this reminder, sometimes all it takes is the simple release of a game we've been waiting a long time for and going to the gym, eating healthy, living socially, can be gone in an instant and years later you don't even realize it.
All your decisions get better after dedicating time to “doing nothing”. Your real thoughts feelings and emotions come into focus. Your brain and life become cleaner and more satisfying.
Thank you for this video! i actually should just stop playing video games all together, and the porn. Living in Isolation, i will overcome, prayers up for me Gang. I'll stay positive
This video speaks to me on an unbelievable level. The biggest realization for me is that my "default mode" is being on the computer which makes my baseline dopamine so high. And I 100% agree that those days where I happen to start the day off with something productive feel better. Days where I wake up and force myself to go to classes end up being the days where I get the most done despite being out a lot of the day. Days where I think "eh the class notes are online I don't have to go today" and then I end up doing nothing all day. It's a night and day difference and it always has to do with what I start my day off doing, what the default for that day is.
This video really hit home im so glad other people do this because i find it very relatable, Self care is important and withdrawing from everything is healing , My friend you are doing the right thing
Now i get it! That’s why when I’m at work and I think at what I want to do when I get back home I think at a lot of different things, but when I actually go home my will disappear. Thank you!
I acually get 100% of what he's saying and also started to implement some dopamine lowering exersices into my day to day life but never thought about why it's working, so video is basically a good reminder to stay on track for me
I have experienced this exactly, its like you first have to escape that which is traping and imprisoning you into idleness , before you feel the desire to do what you need to do . and as you have explained , complete time out ,from everything, is a good way to reboot and redirect our motivation .
Great video. I can really relate, I've been wasting lots of time for years on video games, porn and TH-cam. These are my big 3, like yours were. It's incredibly easy to just alternate between those and Reddit. Often, 80% of my day feels like I'm just cycling around them. I've known for a long time it's an issue, but it's so easy to default to. I am so fed up with this. Often in bed at night, I think about how I'm wasting my life. But then the morning comes, and I just automatically enter the 'matrix' again and plug into in and the day goes so fast. This is so hard to actually put my mind to and fix. I am very apathetic, which doesn't help. But my suffering is getting at breaking point, and I hope that will end up being a good thing. The fun stuff isn't that fun any more, I feel like shit living like this.
I just retired from working a few months ago. I have always had hobbies and things to do in my life bur as strange as it might seem i don't want to do anything. I feel empty. But i want to live this emptiness deeply. I want to feel empty because only from emptiness the new me will arise. Jumping from an hobby to another to keep me busy will only distract me, keeping me far from what i will become. One must front his pain and his void. You know the light by the dark.
if you can't sit down and stare at a wall 16 hours straight, you're just a weakling who always distracts himself and you should be punished with a soft pillow
Excellent video. Can really relate. I’m a high performance, was very motivated person who became a multi-millionaire. Now because I have enough money to not work I found myself surfing TH-cam day/night. After a long time it feels horrible and depressing. I needed to hear this. I’m getting off my ass and going for a walk. Thanks for this brother.
Dude, you don't know how much this just clicked for me. I've noticed this but never been able to understand what I was noticing, but you just described it! Thank you
Video games are crazy. It's like they hypnotize you. I'll spend an entire day playing video games in a mindless stupor, and realize that 12 hours have gone by in what feels like a matter of minutes
Meditation helps a lot to counter depression as well.. You just need to find new hobbies that are productive, it can be anything and your motivations will come right after that.. Stay away any dopamine-induced activities if you want to escape this situation..

Not saying that's a bad thing. I suppose society has programmed us to believe there's a certain value standard we must adhere to otherwise it's not a "fulfilling life".
I've been a neet for the past 5 years. Doing nothing is what I'm the best at
That definitely helped me...I spend the first 10 minutes each morning with no phone...just my tea and my thoughts and that it puts me into a better position to make good quality decisions throughout he day. Thanks for the great video Rob, another banger.
Yeah thats great man. Would even recommend extending that period to like first half hour or hour of your day not using your phone. Really makes you feel more grounded. That thing is so dangerous.
come to think of it I used to make sure I did this, I dont even remember when I stopped, thanks for reminding me I should definitely try again

@@ganyunyuu fighting against it is not the solution, see it as swimming against the current, you will get stuck on the same spot and only eats up your energy. try to spend that energy on other things, like what does make you really happy in life (work should not be the solution) and go from that point on and build up/grow.
living the ideal live is also not you vision you should have in terms of working, making enough money to be able to buy you "happiness"
happiness always comes from the inside!

That actually reverses multiple diseases especially autoimmune ones

Going through heartbreak, and i see no light in life anymore... she left for only selfish reasons. So it should be easy, to discard her mentally... but all i want is her presence and love. I just want a hug, not from anyone... but her. But she stopped caring about me, while i still see my whole world in her. She used me, for 6 years... for safety, and left when she didn't need it anymore.
I am right there with you man, it has just past the 3 month mark for me and idk how I am even breathing still
Brother she left because you stopped loving yourself.
@@jasoncusator221 I know, I'm not going back either. I worked too much and made life a burden on her for two years. Working my ass off for the both of us, but that's just life. Bro, I have been there, 8 years and proposal. Same thing, sacrificed my life, worked for both so she finishes college etc.. If you need to talk hit me up. However, this happened 2 years ago, I was deep down, really down in the deep end, having no one to talk to, totally alone and isolated. I can tell you cliches "it gets better", but it won't. It will get easier to cope. But, saying that, there is another cliche that is actually true - time heals. You will need time, probably a lot to get over it or to wake up one day not thinking about her, that day will happen eventually. That doesn't mean you won't remember her ever but you will start having days where you don't think about her. But it will come by itself you cannot force it. I badly needed hear this thank you. I'm 30 and have been badly struggling with the exact issues you described here my whole life. Very relatable. I've chased dopamine excessively and obsessively most of my life, most recently through computer games. The crash in dopamine levels after a binge makes everything seem ludicrously, sometimes embarrassingly pointless. I definitely have a problem and have a lot of work to do,. Your video came up at the perfect time, Thank you for sharing your experiences, and may we all give ourselves the peace and time to reflect, so we become restless and productive.

i 100% can relate to all you said.
Gf or Friends didnt make the Situation better on long term
That’s exactly the danger of distracting yourself: you have a void in your life in terms of having no relationship, no passion in your work or school, or no close friends and you start to fill that emptiness with distractions. The danger is that by distracting yourself, you will never actually do the things to upgrade your life. I can 100% relate to this though. Watching another TH-cam video, or even worse watching porn, is SO much easier than dealing with that anxious feeling when you just confront yourself with your current situation. But hey it’s just a matter of accepting those uncomfortable feelings and work with them. Good luck bro.
@@juliusjacob1416 What's the point of "upgrading" you life when you will just die one day. None of this matters.
I think your video is the most useful one I watched this year. Thank you!

Appreciate to hear that. I'm really trying my best to make my videos better, so it's great to hear that people like it.

Many times it takes a few days of doing nothing to reset, not minutes. Or possibly even a few weeks, such as going on a retreat to reset.
Thank you. What a simple but great video. A great take on how people are and impacted by todays digital lifestyle. Keep up the good work!
It takes courage to be this honest. Good on you. Thank you.

I have always had hobbies and things to do in my life bur as strange as it might seem i don't want to do anything. I feel empty.
