They are different. Simon and Garfunkel was in the depth of despair. Disturbed, more anger. PTX has just a tinge of hope. Different songs, though they are the same song.

I see their song being more of a plea...like "Listen to me about what is going on, and can something be done about it"?

Something you will hear quite often. PTX doesnt do covers, they do upgrades!

They are other-worldly! For a spiritual experience (whether you are a spiritual person or not), check out their cover of Amazing Grace.

Thanks for this! Great reaction. If you want to hear (and see) them performing live, check out the stuff from Miles Reuben's channel for the PTX concert from the Hollywood Bowl 2022. He has the whole thing, separated by songs. Other tan that...there are lots and lots of footage from previous concerts. They tour almost every year. Oh...and they sound just as good, or better , than they do in studio vids

"If you're on your way to heaven this should be on your playlist." That's a classic line. One to remember. Thanks!

I’m so glad you’re enjoying Pentatonix! When I first started really watching TH-cam, other than the occasional how-to video, Hallelujah by PTX and Sound of Silence by Disturbed were two of the first music videos that popped up for me. They were both phenomenal! So, it being during the pandemic, I had lots of time to explore more. If they’re not on your list already, check out Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Mad World by PTX. If you have the time, you may want to create a Pentatonix playlist for your channel. We’re really happy to suggest future reactions and it helps to know which ones you’ve done. Loved your emotional reaction to this one! Peace …

I second the request for a Pentatonix playlist - it really helps with recommendations!

In general, PTX are the same live as in the studio - perhaps even BETTER!!

And the pandemic obliterated that world tour - among many other wonderful things; grateful for platforms that allow sharing like this

To see how they development their arrangements, they made this "behind the scenes" video. It's long and not necessarily ideal for a reaction, but you'd surely enjoy experiencing how they create their magic...hint, it's a lot of work. th-cam.com/video/CE9ZiK3yPdA/w-d-xo.html

Great reaction! ❤ I love Simon and Garfunkel, Disturbed, and PTX version of this song. I agree with many that the S & G is a warning, Disturbed’s version is a tad dark that the warning was not heeded, and PTX version has some hope it is not too late. With only their voices this rendition is amazing. Kevin is the best beatboxer ( my opinion) in any group, a cappella or otherwise. Scott is a Baritone but he covers bass for Matt when Matt sings the lead. Matt is officially the bass but he can go higher than any bass I have heard ( listen to O Holy Night) They all have phenomenal ranges and together they create magic
I think you would like Mad World

As many have adopted my stance on Simon & Garfunkel, Disturbed and PTX,
I'll give you my original analysis of all 3.
Simon and Garfunkels original is a Warning to society that we're falling away from verbally interconnecting with each other and now care more about the "neon lights" meaning commercialization of society, where we care more about 'things' than communicating with fellow citizens...
Disturbeds version is the anger we, that actually cared about society/fellow humans heeded the warning, the anger we feel about how far society fell from caring about each other... in the quest for "keeping up with the Jonses" or total immersion of society falling to the Commercialization of America...
PTXs version is the hope this GenXer has that we may one day return to caring about each other over the BS corporate programming we've lived in since the 70s...
So I see them separately, I can't compare them, because they each convey a different message...
What's giving me hope these days are all the GenZers that are popping up on TH-cam that are fighting for our Democracy...
    That's my analysis.

This is an interesting song in the PTX videos listing. It's #6 most popular, with 156M views. Of the 5 videos above it, 3 are over 300M views (Hallelujah is WAY over, LOL!), the 4th is just under 300m views, and the 5th is just under 200M views. I'm always a little surprised that it's as far down the list as it is, but then again, many of the songs higher in the list have been around for 9 or 10 years, so it's still got some time to move up!
While it wasn't the first video that Matt appeared in as a permanent member of PTX, it's by far the most popular - for many people, it was really their introduction to Matt as the new bass singer after Avi left.
PS - that "world tour" in the outro was probably the longest world tour in history - it originally started in early 2019, continued into 2020, then had to stop for the pandemic lockdown all over the world. It finally resumed in early 2023, and finished in fall of that year. So about 4 1/2 years to complete the tour!

Many people think "Sound of Silence" depicts the aftermath of a nuclear war, although Paul Simon said it's about people's inability to communicate.
I've watched Disturbed's official video of "Sound of Silence," and it appears that they fall into the nuclear warfare camp. Their video is angry, and arrogant, as if they think the end is near and blame the world for not heeding Simon & Garfunkel's warning, AND think that they alone can save music (Huh? Where the heck did they get that?!) - I'm referring to the final image of an ark escaping with a harp on board. I can't blame Disturbed for the anger; I'm angry too, though I know this song wasn't meant as that kind of warning. However, I can and do blame Disturbed for the arrogance, and for apparently having given up on preventing the catastrophe.
In the nearly 60 years since Simon & Garfunkel first published this song it's been covered by many artists, and the two most notable covers are, indeed, by Disturbed and #Pentatonix. Disturbed released their version first, and it appears that Pentatonix was responding to Disturbed. And what Pentatonix seems to be saying is that it isn't too late; if we all agree that it's important enough we can still avert the final disaster.
Is Pentatonix right? I don't know. What I DO know is that we have no chance at all if we just give up, so I'm on Pentatonix's side on this one. Even if they're wrong I'm with Pentatonix; I'd rather go down fighting for my planet than simply give up and write an angry suicide note.
