  • The ease of so-called “keyless theft” is one reason for the huge surge in the number of cars being stolen off people’s driveways as they sleep.
Analysis of Office for National Statistics data by The Times found that last year a car was stolen every 3 mins 50 seconds. In total, 135,526 cars were reported as stolen last year, the highest number in more than a decade.

Most keyless entry cars provide a way to disable the feature. I was able to completely turn it off on my old car and on my current one I just double click the lock button to do it, I NEVER leave keyless entry on. Check your car manuals.

car manufactures do need to do more to protect but the bigger issue i feel lies with the police failings, it was never this bad, its not hard to x-ray containers, to prevent them leaving. and how many abandoned cars have you seen by the thieves in prep for retrieval, this is purely down to the police not removing the car, funny that you park illegally they can't wait to take a car, yet if abandoned and clearly signs of theft they leave them for days, get out of the cctv office and get back on the beat

No police about- to be fair they're too busy vaping, joining protests, and advocating LGBTQZYZX, Who cares about Drink driving? Or theft? Or not wearing a seat belt?! When you cannot make good tik tok content out of it - using your phone while driving!!! Not indicating!! On patrol.
These are bigger importances for the police.

There aren't enough police in the first place. The Tories took care of that by decimating the service, just like they've done to Probation, and every other public service.
Thank the Tories by voting them out of government.

Steal 200 cars, get caught once. Say it was your first time. 50 hours community service. Crime pays better than any job.

Detachable steering wheels with specific pinnings that only that steering wheel can fit?So no one can bring a apare along?
Not ideal for all situations but for the home it will help,so thats two things tbey have to deal with.
Greatly increasing the time they are exposed to cctv and being seenor heard.Make them think twice wont it as capture percentage greatly increases.

    • @oldguy7402

@mwd331 I was referring to efforts at the national and especially state level that attempt to restrict every aspect of firearm ownership. For instance, California has a policy (not a law, mind you, but a bureaucratic ruling) that if there is an arrest for a crime that, if convicted, would prevent gun ownership, whether there was ever a trial or not) they will not allow the transfer, but will state that they are not denying you the purchase, it's just on hold until "the matter is resolved"
I had a false accusation by a vindictive wife during a divorce over 35 years ago. Arrested, released, never charged. For 20 years after that I could buy any kind of firearm (that California granted the privilege to own... don't get me started on the "permitted handgun roster). Then suddenly, this new ruling was put in place (around 2011 or so). The arrest was still in the database with "no resolution" I even paid for a physical records search in the originating county and they stated there was no physical info that the arrest even happened....
Add that all the extra taxes, zoning restrictions for gun stores, banning magazines over a certain capacity, banning firearms for cosmetic features, etc. Etc. All clearly Unconstitutional, many thrown out when measured against the letter of the Constitution. Still some federal, state, and local officials are actively engaged in reinstating any restriction they can "for your safety" Until we can jail public officials for willfully violating their Constitutional oaths, this will continue.
