I atill remember the first time I played a beat em up. It was around 1996 at my friend Jason's birthday party. He had the Sega 6-Pak, and I was instantly addicted. The music, the nocturnal setting, everything about it drew me in. Now almost 30 years later, it warms my heart knowing the genre and series are still going strong.
I would not say its going strong but a RESURGENCE! The Beat 'Em Up, Real Time Strategy and Fighting Game Genre are making a come back. Still not mainstream but WILL BECOME MAINSTREAM SOON! I had enough of playing FPS, TPS and RPGs too much. The market is flooded with these since the early 2000's and from that point onwards, the Beat Em Up, RTS and Fighting games was good as dead!
Nice list with lots of new things to try out for me. I really liked Ninja Saviors - Return of the Warriors which is a remake or enhancement of a great Super Nintendo beat 'm up.
If y'all havent tried them yet I fully recommend emulating the Original Xbox Isometric/ Overhead View 3D Beat Em Up TMNT Trilogy!! The 2nd and 3rd games in the trilogy up the quality alot with each installment and is playable up to 4 Players for all 3 games!! They are so fun!!!! @@ClassicCo-op I'll even add one better but it's a older game.... The Warriors Arcade game that you can play that's IN the game. Lol. The game within the game and both ROCK for PS2 game
@@mANTiC_eYE I played the warriors a bit but didn’t know about that! I gotta go back and try that!
@@ClassicCo-op after you beat the game and complete the bonus objectives you unlock the arcade game in the hangout spot. I'm sure you can TH-cam that as well. Good luck and I enjoyed your video btw
fight and rage is the best by far. What about streets of rage remake v5.2?? is better than any of this list ;)
I need to play that!
sacred citadel is much better than 90% of the games from this list.
I honestly couldn’t get into that one. What did you like about it?
what they don't have any good ideas to come up with brand new beat 'em up games for the modern day era they have to go back to the 80s and 90s to search the archive for some old beat 'em up games claiming they're brand new for the modern day era WTF
I mean, the evolution of beat em ups would probably be like the Yakuza series and games like that. But this video was specifically about the classic style.
@@ClassicCo-op I know I was just saying why won't they make new beat 'em up games for the modern Era the only one I've seen is sifu
what about Midnight Fight Express?
Haven’t heard of that one. Looks great! Does it have co-op?
@@ClassicCo-op No Co-op but its an amazing little game
@@SGNJBROKENTHEATER I’ll check it out!
What about Jitsu Squad???
Everyone keep mentioning that one. I still need to play it!
Streets of Rage 4 felt like a step backwards from the SoR Remake fan game. I don't get the praise.
You know what I don't get? dynasty warriors games are the best 3d beat em up games. Yet they are never listed in videos about beat em up games.
I don’t know if I would classify it as a beat em up. It definitely has some of those qualities though.
I hate the 3d smooth animation on some of the newer ones 👎
Beat em ups need to be pixel or hand drawn style👍
Totally agree! Are you talking about the takeover?
Dungeons and dragons shadow of mystara is the only one
Love that game too!
Jitsu squad
Zombie Vikings
Keep hearing Jitsu Squad is good! I need to try it. I remember enjoying the little bit of Zombie Vikings I played when it came out.
Jitsu squad? 🤔
I keep hearing that one’s good. I need to try it!
STREETS OF RAGE 4 is the best
As you saw, I agree!
The new upcoming double dragon design looks bad
You think so? I think the game looks like it’ll be a lot of fun though.
@@ClassicCo-op ya its fun just that they made characters look like kids
@@AshTheDuke yeah, it’s a weird choice. hopefully the gameplay is solid though.
Street of rage remake made by bomber games.
A great game still better then sor4
Been meaning to try that!
mother russia and fight in rage
YEEEEAAAAHHHH
🤘🏻
none of these games top "the warriors"
We have an upcoming video where we cover the best 3d beat em ups. Look out for that!
Streets of Rage 4 already has a good combat system but the cartoon graphics is a disappointment for me. Imagine SOR4 like Fight N' Rage style graphics...then I think it will become Game of the Decade ❤
Totally agree! The visuals have grown on me a bit, but some nice pixel art would’ve made it perfect!
Definitely felt the same with Scott Pilgrim. I just dont get the hype. I played it and its meh
When it first came out I thought it was great, but probably because we went so long without seeing beat em ups. But when I went back to it, it’s really not as good as I thought.
No double dragon 4 ...
You’re saying I shouldn’t have included it?
weird that viking i never see, i wish these games just had more moves.. can't understand why people play streets of rage 4 so many hours (also bosses are stupid a charging boss looks like dragon ball.. can't hit them)
viking is a 2016 game and cost 14.99 that's too high for a old game
Hey, anything like dragon ball is a positive in my book! 😅
@@ClassicCo-op well for me the series are great..
the games.. not so much.. on ps4 only played fighter z which is a bad game, because as fanboy i want to use all the moves i see on tv so if i miss 1 move it's already bad. any fighting game should have a few moves more i think.
You missed a bunch, and turtles doesn't deserve to be on this, there are significantly better fan versions.
several others are top tier, so this one's a real eye sore...
What did I miss? This was about officially releases. Might do some fan games in the future. You didn’t like Shredder’s revenge?
I liked streets of rage 4 but its not the best in fact i found it down right unfun and annoying at times .... i know i'm in the minority with this opinion . Mother Russia Bleeds and River City Girls though, are tight .
Fair enough. Mother Russia Bleeds needs more attention. I absolutely love that game!
way too hard
What is?
sorry lol I posted this on the wrong video (for my defense im drunk)@@ClassicCo-op
@@superdepressif6047 haha you better get off TH-cam!
fair enough lol@@ClassicCo-op
here are some of my favorite modern beat-em-up that are not on the list dawn of monsters, 9 monkeys of shaolin, wardogs: red's return, shing, super punch patrol, raging justice, coffee crisis, i am the hero, jitsu squad, last beat enhanced, the legend of tianding, the last friend and redeemer: enhanced edition.. nice video of modern beat-em-up..
Nice! I’ve played a lot of those, but haven’t heard of some. Thanks for the heads up!
Don’t even have to look at the list to know streets of rage 4 is the best. That game was incredible.
Agreed! It’s so good!
My 4years old son is addicted to it lol
@@jlovesmith3792 there’s a surprising level of depth to the game. Trying to get through a stage without letting your combo drop is pretty fun.
I agree
It is a great game. I need to try the dlc. Isn't that available on a cart so they want to sell u another copy. And sucker that I am i.ll buy it
I atill remember the first time I played a beat em up. It was around 1996 at my friend Jason's birthday party. He had the Sega 6-Pak, and I was instantly addicted. The music, the nocturnal setting, everything about it drew me in. Now almost 30 years later, it warms my heart knowing the genre and series are still going strong.
That’s awesome! It’s a great time for best em up fans!
I love that game too! Thanks for watching.
And i would also recommend Lord of the Rings The Two Towers and Lord of the Rings The Return of the King emulated for either Original Xbox or PS2
An idea for future video.
List of 5+ players local coop/vs games.
For example: X-Man Arcade Game, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Super Bomberman R, Dark Pictures series, Robotry, Bossgard.
Great idea! I’ll have to keep that one in mind!
@@ClassicCo-op if i remember properly on Wii U there is more interesting 5 players coop. Rayman Legends, Super Smash Brawl and other.
On PC there is a lot of indie games with 5+ player support but to be honest they are not interesting and not good.
Also Wonderful 101 Remastered
Great Video, Hopefully my game can appear on one of these lists one day
Thanks! I’ll check that out!
