Just picked up a used ZS60 (TZ80) for a very cheap price and had been pretty frustrated at trying to find my way around the menus. I usually have fun diving into a new camera's menus and messing around, but not so for this camera. I was about to post it for sale until I watched this video. Very helpful! I'm now back to having fun seeing what this little guy can do and have decided to keep it for a while and use it as my everyday camera. Thank you Greg!

I just got the same camera, but when I try to do the bee setting with MF, shutter speed 1000, the pictures come out VERY dark - I can't seem to figure out why? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any idea?
Hi Greg.. 1st I love your Australian accent. Secondly, I feel like you invited me to your home and sat me down to show me how the camera I just bought works. Thank you for an exceptionally in depth, hold your hands and let me show you, review. Thank you mate.. ;)
Purchased a TZ 95 early this year, struggling to use it as I normally use a large Nikon DSLR, however I am going on a bush walk for a lot of days with restricted weight and needed a light camera (didn't want to rely on the phone). I have found that the focus is not the best and it is taking a bit to get my head around the menu. I will see how it goes. Thanks for the video it's been very helpful, even for its age.
Best of luck with this camera. It won't match a dslr but you can take it places you wouldn't take the bigger stuff. Single point auto focus is the most reliable to nail focus. Thanks for your comment!
Oh there’s a number of settings that could have greyed out the HDR. Could take hours of reading to find the culprit. You might try the free online manual at Panasonic’s web site and in the search bar type HDR. Sorry I’m not much help. Good luck.
Found this…. ●This function is not available in the following cases: • In Self Shot Mode • When recording using the flash • When using [Burst] • When recording 4K photos • When recording using [Post Focus] • When recording using [Bracket] • When [Quality] is set to [ ], [ ] or [ ] 🔴(⬅️this basically says not available when quality set to raw or any raw/JPeg setting)🔴 probably need to shoot in Jpeg only for it to work. • When using [Time Lapse Shot] • When [Auto Shooting] of [Stop Motion Animation] is set to [ON]
Just starting with a Lumix 7G . So much to learn. Thanks for helping me get a little more familiar with the functions. I will watch this video many times and try to do these funtions.
hi there, do you know which settings would be best for a concert? i bought this camera for concerts because of the zoom but i know nothing about cameras and need advice for that... thank you so much for this video, it's already very helpful!
This has been the best tutorial to help me move out away from just using "auto" everything and use custom settings - so grateful!!!! I am usng Lumix sz - 70 -- I followed along with your tz 80 instructions and it worked perfectly! Not sure what the differnce is. You have been so helpful. Would welcome your help with other features of this camera! :) Question - my Lumix sz70 has an "ihandheld night shot" feature; but it is always greyed out. Can you explain how to turn it on? You seem to totally "get" this camera. thanks!!
Hi Greg, I've just tried to set up my TZ95D in the same way, but when I try to do the bee setting with MF, shutter speed 1000, the pictures come out VERY dark - I can't seem to figure out why? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any idea?
@kewla1 you need good light like a sunny day otherwise I'd check your iso setting. Make sure it's in auto. Answer off the top of my head. I'm not sure what suggested in the video. I haven't watched it for years.
How do you record in 4k and get it to continuously take photos at the same time? I've got a VIP ticket to see to see Paul McCartney in December. I will be between 4 to 8 rows from the front. I want to record it and try and get some decent photographs at the same time. Can anyone tell me what the best setting would be for a pop concert? I have LUMIX DC-TZ200. Can you get the camera to simultaneously take, and keep taking photographs, at the same time as you are recording? So, the camera takes the photos itself automatically while you film in 4k…..If you were going to this concert and wanted to try and get some good photos and videos, what would you do? Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi Greg, I hope you don't mind me asking your advice but you do know this camera (TZ-90) and I barely do....so, would you tell me why there is a red light go on when I want to take a photo at night? Is it light meter? For instance, I wanted to shoot the moon last night but the camera would not allow the shutter to take the pic. Also, I have tried to take a pic in low light and the same thing happens...or doesn't happen. Do I have to set up a custom thing or is it simpler that that?... will try to research this further but appreciate you understanding on it. Thank you. After asking you this, I found a manual on Manual Library online and learned about Ai, so set that and could take indoor pics for a start which showed the red light before this and shall try teh moon tonight using it....and see how it works. So much to learn!
Is the red light on the front? If so that’s the focus assist lamp... From the advanced user manual free on the Panasonic web site. Lots of info there! [AF Assist Lamp] Illuminates the AF Assist Lamp when the shutter button is pressed halfway when it is too dark to facilitate focusing. [Direct Focus Area] Moves the AF area or MF assist using the cursor button while recording. ● The AF Assist Lamp has an effective distance of 1.5 m (4.9 feet). ●The setting is fixed to [OFF] in the following cases: • [Distinct Scenery], [Bright Blue Sky], [Romantic Sunset Glow], [Vivid Sunset Glow], [Glistening Water], [Clear Nightscape], [Cool Night Sky], [Warm Glowing Nightscape], [Artistic Nightscape], [Handheld Night Shot] (Scene Guide Mode) • When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON]
@@Greggie_D Thanks....yes, in the manual online it says that Artistic Nightscape is the one to try. I solved my indoor shots dilemma by changing to iA....because I was getting frustrated not being able to just take any pic I wanted! The Olympus Tough was point and shoot and was a good camera. This is a whole new ballgame! Many thanks for helping me out today. It is also hard to read the dials etc because I only have one eye that is normal which sees normally and focuses. The other has had 7 ops last year and was my close-up eye...I am an artist....so means I've lost natural close-up vision.
Hi Greg, my new camera arrived today and it is charged and running. Would you please tell me how you store yours while not in use, please, because it says in the instructions that it needs air circulating around it so am not sure if it can be put into a small camera pouch or not? Thanks!
@@Greggie_D Alright, I will get a new case to suit it's size, thank you. Yes, I understand what you mean about our heat but inside the house its' cool so shall do as you do. Thank you for replying so soon, I appreciate it. Am about to go through your video setting it up now :-)
Great tutorial, Just bought a Panasonic lumix TZ95 and found the customizing tips a great help. Please can you tell me the best settings for nighttime and fireworks, do you have a link to a tutorial for this? Thanks Again
Hello, I have the Panasonic lumix dmc-tz80 camera and I can't be happier with it but I have a problem, maybe I don't know how to do it right and that is that when I do a timelapse and set it to turn on in a minute it activates at 12 o'clock. night and record that minute, when I am on the screen "Interv. Time-Shot" I have fixed that the date is one day after the current one, what I do wrong, greetings and thanks
Sorry my friend but I don't do many time lapses and none with that camera. You may be better Googling the issue. Good luck. I hope you find the answer.
Greg, this video of yours is something I really need because I bought mine yesterday from Diamonds and it should be here in country SA tomorrow. I have used Olympus exclusively for 40 years but really like the look and price of this camera but do need to learn how it works and your tutorial is great, thanks! I do like taking photos of ants etc so I like the custom feature a lot, plus I do videos for my channel and shall be using it for this as well. I shall be sitting down with you while we set it up together :-)
@@Greggie_D Well, the feeling is mutual! With Your help I'll actually know what I'm doing! Last week on the second day at the local beach, 9km away, I walked into the water with my Olympus Tough 870 I've had a couple years and loved, and after taking my usual early sunset pics I put it in my pocket and waded around....found out the hard way I had not closed the seal door. That is because I make my videos and leave it open to upload to the Mac and had not been to the beach since the end of last summer. So....chose a dedicated camera that won't need to go in the water and the zoom and all the other features will be great!
I have an old FZ40 that I am no longer happy with. (we do not like each other) and was contemplating buying a TZ90 which is half the price of the TZ220 ... do you have any suggestions for a small compact digital camera?
I have the TZ110 and the TZ90 I’m considering selling both and try and get a little of the best of both worlds quality and zoom by purchasing the TZ220. The TZ90 is great for things further away if that’s what you shoot the most. Quality is average though. TZ110 quality is quite good but I keep getting caught out with not enough zoom. Honestly I take my FZ300 with me more than the others. It’s just bigger and not pocketable.
@@Greggie_D Thanks for your reply. In my ideal world, I would like a compact that took great shots of birds showing the fine details like the feathers and markings without the bulk of a bigger camera. Yes I am sure everyone would love that too. Also love macro shots and seems that my mobile phone camera takes better macro photos than my FZ40. I once owned a compact (forgot the name of it) that took the best photos even long range, I have no idea what became of that one.
Good question I’ve just spent an hour looking for the answer and can’t find it even in the advanced manual. I just assumed it was a 29min 29 second limit like many others. I’ve never shot video for extended periods of time due to the small battery size compared to my other cameras and no external microphone function.. I use an FZ2500 for video as it has no recording limits, mic input and a bigger battery.
@@Greggie_D I have FZ2500 too :) But I need to get the second camera without duration limit in video recording. In the manual there is only the information about 15 minutes in 4K mode and 30 minutes in FullHD 60fps. And what about FullHD 30fps? Can you select this mode and check of there is one hour displayed instead of 29minutes and 59 seconds?
I have followed your very helpful tips...they're great. The one thing I cannot find in the menu is HIGH SPEED SHUTTER. Where on earth is that? Thanks, Richard.
Hey mate, thanks for the video, it's extremely useful. Just got my tz95 and I wonder what settings would you change to record surfers, Same than footie?
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm also interested to figure out how to make it work for video, to maybe quickly go from slow motion to regular. Probably same way.
My lumix didn't come with an English manual. I am completely unable to get the images off my camera onto my computer. There are no videos how to do that (only how to use an app to put them on a phone -- I don't want them on my phone). When I plug the cord to camera and computer the computer doesn't read the camera at all. None of my other cameras ever had this problem. Any idea how to solve my problem?
Diane Schuller I’ve never plugged any of my cameras into my computer. It’s so much easier to use an sd card reader and they’re cheap. You can download a digital version of the manual which is awesome because there is a search function that can take you straight to the page you need. Just Google the something like “TZ90 Panasonic Manual” and it should be easy to find.
@@Greggie_D Thank you very much for your reply and this suggestion. I'll look online for an English manual for this camera. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Hello, (my name’s Greg by the way 😁) if you mean a “Live composite” feature like Olympus has there is a “Light Composition “ feature in the playback mode that I have had no success with. It works off a 4K photo clip. It’s not that great unfortunately.
Hear The Art Heart Earth just discovered the longest shutter speed is 1 sec when you are in electronic shutter mode..But change it to mechanical or auto shutter it goes out to 4 sec!
@@Greggie_D thats very helpful, but i cant seem to find that in the menu at all, any hints as to where it is, its so confusing in that menu bar. appreciate the help
One example... I've used borth cameras at my kids basketball indoors. The TZ 90 results were pretty poor and noisy. The bigger sensor in the TZ110 worked much better. Still not large sensor quality but better than the sensor in the TZ90. Funny i like the ergonomics of the TZ90 better with it's flip screen and much better grip.
That's been a very helpful video. Many thanks. Do you or anyone else come to that know how to set the manual white balance in the video recording mode. I can see there are 4 separate manual white balance markers numbered 1 to 4 but I have tried all ways to try and set one them to something and I can't figure it out. Thanks once again for a very illuminating tutorial, much appreciated.
I’m not sure what the default setting is for video (I suppose you could do a factory reset if you really wanted to find out) but it’s very easy to change it in the quick menu.4K photo obviously takes a 4K video file by default, that can’t be changed (like the G9 can} on this model.
@@thefinancialchapter5675 not quite. You can be in 4K photo mode (shooting 4K footage) and 1080p for normal video (red button) if you have it set up that way.
@@Greggie_D I see. I never changed the settings but I will go ahead and factory reset. I assume that will bring it to the settings you mentioned above. I just want to be able to record in 4K haha!
Hard to know without seeing your settings. Perhaps whatever you are playing back your videos on has the video speed setting turned up or maybe even youre camera is in time-lapse mode.
@@Greggie_D I think its at play back mode because when I transfer the videos to my phone the camera says,, playback mode might be difficult depending on your phone,, How can I set it to a normal mode & not playback mode
High Greg, really enjoyable video. I have just bought the TZ 90 and I'm not sure if its faulty or not but indoors under house lighting the viewfinder and back screen are terribly grainy. Have you experienced this? Thank you
E Miff unfortunately the TZ90 has a small sensor and noise in low light situations is a problem. The sensitivity of the small sensor has to be cranked up by the camera creating that artefact. I only use the TZ90 outside and use a larger sensor camera indoors. Still an awesome camera with that zoom!
Either you made a mistake or I don't understand. You saved the settings under Custom 1, but when you switch the dial and take a picture I see a C2 in the viewfinder.
Ah well spotted, I was meant to go to C1 but I think you get the idea. It was done without script and only a couple of clips so please excuse how scrappy the video is. I would have made it a bit more professional if I’d known how many views it was going to get.
Some great tips there! I have the lumix tz70 and haven't used the custom settings yet! I wasn't really sure how to set it up or how I could use it 😊 I've got a much better idea how it works now! 👍😎
Hey, this is great and very helpful! One question, do you know if it is possible to just take one photo in 4k, without any bursts? If not, do you know why not? I can't really use bursts for taking pictures, but I want the higher quality. Thanks!
4k photos are much smaller than regular photos on this camera so I don't really see a use for a single shot when you can just change the resolution size in the camera anyhow. I have imported videos into Lightroom before where you can capture a frame in 4k resolution from a video file. There is also an option in camera to take 4k photos only for the time you are holding the shutter button. Search Lumix 4k photos on TH-cam for tutorials on the different 4k photo settings. Very cool function on these cameras.
I always hear complaints about the cost of pocket cameras and I admit, myself included. But when I think about what they can do, the technology behind them, I have to admit they are a bargain.

Thanks , a lot easier than the manual, how do I set up for slow motion recording?
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm also interested to figure out how to make it work for video, to maybe quickly go from slow motion to regular. Probably same way.
this is so helpful and easy to follow, thank you so much!! (-:
I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
i have the ZS200. Thank you. Perfect instructions. Is there a part 2?
Hi peter thanks for heping mw with my new camera, do these cameras come with a shutter buld setting for long exposures
Hello, (my name’s Greg by the way 😁) if you mean a “Live composite” feature like Olympus has there is a “Light Composition “ feature in the playback mode that I have had no success with. It works off a 4K photo clip. It’s not that great unfortunately.
@@Greggie_D sorry i saw someone write to a peter in the comments and it stuck, thanks for the info, it seems i can go no longer than 1 second
Hear The Art Heart Earth just discovered the longest shutter speed is 1 sec when you are in electronic shutter mode..But change it to mechanical or auto shutter it goes out to 4 sec!
@@Greggie_D thats very helpful, but i cant seem to find that in the menu at all, any hints as to where it is, its so confusing in that menu bar. appreciate the help
its a gx 880 i have, there is a long shutter NR button which is faded out so I cant select it
Thanks ; now 4k playback makes sense (camera TZ200) and hopefully I will like this complicated camera a bit more more.
thank you, how do you think it compares with the tz200?
I've not used the tz200 but it's definitely a step down in quality to the tz100 the extra reach and the flip screen are good though.
Greg Dower why do you say this.
Quick question. So you can shoot videos with 4k off?
Yes. 4K photo it's different to video. Although 4k photo produces a video file.
Greg Dower thank you so much!
Good question! I'm not so much a video guy but I'd be interested to know too. Might have to scroll through the manual to find out.
@@Greggie_D When I find out, I'll be sure to come back and say. Many thanks once again.
Hi Greg, is the tz90 automatically in 4K when taking videos? Or do I have to select that option in settings?
I’m not sure what the default setting is for video (I suppose you could do a factory reset if you really wanted to find out) but it’s very easy to change it in the quick menu.4K photo obviously takes a 4K video file by default, that can’t be changed (like the G9 can} on this model.
@@Greggie_D Got it. So as long as im in 4K mode for photo, it should be the same in video. Thanks!
Hello I'm having trouble with my camera .whenever I make a video it plays really fast how can I fix this
Hard to know without seeing your settings. Perhaps whatever you are playing back your videos on has the video speed setting turned up or maybe even youre camera is in time-lapse mode.
@@Greggie_D I think its at play back mode because when I transfer the videos to my phone the camera says,, playback mode might be difficult depending on your phone,,
How can I set it to a normal mode & not playback mode
Thanks Greg. That’s very helpful.
Thank you very helpful. Peter
Have owned the camera for 3 days. Had no idea you could use manual focus on the lens. lol
Please do some more video for about digicam for newbie
Thanks very much.
Great
Some great tips there! I have the lumix tz70 and haven't used the custom settings yet! I wasn't really sure how to set it up or how I could use it 😊 I've got a much better idea how it works now! 👍😎
Perfect, thank you.
Very cool function on these cameras.
which camera is this ?
TZ90
I always hear complaints about the cost of pocket cameras and I admit, myself included. But when I think about what they can do, the technology behind them, I have to admit they are a bargain.
Really could have done without all the mouth smacking and "uhm"s, I'd edit that out. But good video otherwise!
I had to stop watching it was getting on my nerves.
