Wow! Boring review? RIDICULOUS! I've had this camera for TWO YEARS and I learned more in the last 32 minutes than I have in all this time ! WELL DONE! And I will rewatch it as well!
People may say this is a boring review but I think this was one of the best reviews ever...you went through all the features and explained what they did, no fluff or filler as we say in the digital product niche. Do you think this would be good as a first time vlogging camera? How long is the battery / recording a video?
I would say yes if you are not interested in using an external mic (which in some cases can be extremely helpful!) while vlogging. The battery during video should last a couple hours.
This is a great overview. It was just concise enough, yet detailed enough to give me exactly what I needed to get started with my camera. Thanks a million.
Thanks for this very comprehensive overview. I just purchased this camera as a 'take on the road' addition. Your overview certainly helped in understanding the camera. Thanks again.
Thank you! So worth the time. The manual is OK, but watching the overview was really helpful. I’ve had the camera for a year and a half and every time I tried to find a setting, I’d get so deep into menus, it took too long and I got frustrated and stayed in iA mode. Now I can move into the P mode and take a little more control. I take a lot of landscape images, and the auto settings never captures the colors or the clouds very well. Best thing I learned in this video was the Quick menu. I feel confident I can make the slight adjustments I need now without missing the moment. Thanks again!
You're the best! Thank you so much for this end-depth, comprehensive overview of the camera and all of its settings. I was reading the manual when I thought "maybe someone on youtube has created a walkthrough. I'm more of an auditory learner." Well it turns out you were the answer to my prayers! I appreciate the time and effort you put in to make this content. Thanks again!
This was THE review I needed. I felt so overwhelmed by its features that I first regretted my purchase. Now I feel more comfortable with it and I'm looking forward to using it. Thanks for this great review!
I just purchased this camera to take some videos at concerts. I very rarely watch tutorial videos, and even less often comment, but you did a fantastic job w/ this and it helped a great deal. Liked/favored. Thanks!
Thank you! I couldn’t understand much in the little manual that came with the camera. Your wonderful explanations saved me!! I was about to give up but I learned so much from you. You are a great teacher!
An excellent walkthrough with just the right level of information from beginning to end that makes me want to learn more. It makes Panasonic's main 425 page instruction manual less daunting. Thank you.
You have a really beautiful voice, I'm listening to it in bed awake but laying down with my eyes 👀 closed and it is super relaxing, I'm getting goosebumps too 😊
Not only was this the most in depth and informative tutorials I’ve watched. I just noticed you did the whole thing holding the camera upside down!!! Great video 😊
Thank you so much for this. I got my new camera for Christmas and this was just what I needed to get started. Actually the first half was probably enough initially! I will definitely view it again to get better at using other features once I have had a chance to practice.😀
Thanks for this! My kids gave the camera to me for Father's Day, and the next day when I started looking at it, I was freaking out because of the multitude of settings. Having seen this video, I feel much more competent in getting started with taking pix.
Just ordered this camera to replace TZ70. It’s arriving in two days and this video really helped me to understand the settings which have changed quite a lot. Thanks for being so clear and thorough.
Thank you so much. I'll still bumble around with this camera, but you taught me so much in 32 minutes and I'm looking forward to seeing if I can put into practice what I (think) I've learned.
Thank you ever so much. All the information on this camera simplified for a novice like me. And I have been trying to get a handle on it the past week. IA setting movies for me and now I know I can video in the separate modes just by pressing the video button. I feel a lot more comfortable using it now. Wish I had seen your vid a week ago.
Good job! Until I saw your video I was not completely won over by this camera...now I’m going to buy it as soon as I can! Thanks for explaining it so concisely!
I may have missed it, was tinkering in real time while watching, but how do I make the screen actually live preview my settings? Right now the screen preview doesn't adjust according to my settings in M until I've actually taking the pic
Thanks for a great video Heather. Very clear and informative. When I was going through the comments I saw that some people are confused about the model numbers. For reasons only the Japanese could understand (and explain) the numerical part of the model number is different in Europe and Americas. ZS80 is actually identical to TZ95. The TZ80 model that's mentioned in the comments is known as ZS60 here in the Americas and things may be different in that model.
Thank you for the nice walkthrough. I am going to get my first camera (iPhone is too auto, not a big fan of android, looking for something budget friendly/ compact/ telephoto to take some travel photos), looks like this is one of the best options I can get (tilt and touch screen/ EVF/ 30xzoom). I just want to lament the somewhat outrageous prices for these cameras nowadays. This 5 year camera (new at about 450 USD price)may reach now 600 USD at used condition.
Thank you for such a great and thorough video that explains how to use this camera! Your video gave great information on how to use the Panasonic Lumix ZS80, and I can't wait to start using all of the features that you so aptly described!
Excellent video and explanation so thanks a lot! As next step in this hopefully series, I would like to see practical walkthroughs. Like 1. Shooting / Filming outdoors - 2. Shooting / Filming indoors 3. Shooting / Filming Macro 4. Best tips and tricks By the way....in Europe this camera is called the TZ95 (which is exactly the same as the ZS80). So by adding this into your title of the video, you will get more attention to this great video. I also subscribed :)
Thank you for the information! I have done some tips and tricks videos going over the shooting modes, metering modes, auto focusing, using flash indoors and outdoors, long exposure and also macro in this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL0jHU7tULNujpSsJ6n5hrddSUWVRvKy_p.html They are more toward interchangeable lens cameras, but some can be applied with a point and shoot. Let me know if you have any other requests!
@@Shutterbug101 I was going to suggest adding into the title "TZ95" as I almost clicked away from your video when it popped up in search...great job BTW! How is this for vlogging?
Thanks for this... I bought my TZ85 (nearly identical) literally days before a trip to Europe last year when I decided I didn’t want to lug around a bunch of Nikon DSLR gear, but I had no time to do more than glance at the manual. Anyway, your comment about Silent Mode was the a-ha! I needed. That’s why I had some “broken/missing” functions!
Excellent overview of the ZS80. I have a couple of questions. One of the ways I use this camera is to take photos at blues and rock concerts (both outdoor and indoor). The 30X zoom helps me get closer to the action when I can't get front row seats. Since most of the concerts are staged at night, and the artists are lit with spotlights, it can be a real photographic challenge, especially when you consider that they are moving most of the time, and the shade of spotlight can also change. What mode would you recommend that I use with my ZS80 to increase my chance of success? Most of the best photos I have taken in Auto mode are when the artists are not moving much. Another question I have is occasionally, I get a blue sparkly highlight around items in the display (in P mode). Have I inadvertently turned on some feature of which I am unaware? Thanks for your help.
Suggestion: As this walkthrough is done in english, one early setting to show in the video should be how to change the language setting on the camera to english. Straight out of the box my camera was reading in french. Imagine how frustrating it was to go through the first 17 minutes of the video until you got to the tool menu, and then explained the 'language' icon. On a positive note, I am glad you would eventually get to it, because by then I was very happy to see the 'reset' button!
Thank you! I have never bought a digital camera before this (investing for YT haha). It was quite intimidating in the beginning, seeing all the possibilities this model gives! But hooray for 4k videos haha.
So great!Thank you!! A newbie question. If I were to continue my journey of learning with this camera and photography, can you recommend OTHER videos?? Many many thanks!
Hi. Thank you so much for this video. You explained everything so well in 32 minutes especially the important information. I purchased this camera purely for macro and zooming in, both of which I cannot have on my iphone 15. One thing I'm still getting my head around is the colour of the object that you see with the camera compared to my iphone 15. I'm wanting the true to life colour that you see when taking photos with the camera the same as the iphone. Currently the iphone is beating the camera with that. However I'm thinking its a setting I need to adjust on the camera. After your video, I have learnt to adjust to the vivid setting to see what happens rater than standard setting. Can I ask your thoughts on this please and do appreciate your response.
I just bought this camera thank you for all the useful information it will make it a lot easier to run threw all the camera settings and show me what is best to use for photographs I’m am taking can you do a video on the zoom quality also would love to see that....
I just watched the video and some of the features were greyed out on my camera so I could not access. For example the Picture Size says "This item cannot be set in the current mode- Drive Mode 4K Photo" Also the AFF function is grayed out as well "This item cannot be selected" and lastly in AF Mode I can only select the first two options. The others are grayed out as well. Please let me know if you know why I am having these issues. Thanks
Fantastic overview, thank you! I purchased this camera for a vacation; it performed great but now that's passed I want to get even more familiar with it. I'll take a peak at your other videos, but I'm wondering- I tried to get some pictures of the recent northern lights visible in the US, and nothing I got came out well at all. Any tips on optimizing the settings on this camera to capture something like that? I'd love to capture some nice nighttime views with this camera if possible. Thanks again!
How can I get the exposure meter to show in the monitor? I can't see it in any of the exposure modes - MSAP. I have Expo turned on, but I can't see a meter. Good overview video. Thank you.
I have watched your video several times as I just purchased the camera..what does the square in the bottom left indicate when I take a photo? Is that where the camera is reading the light and or focus. The location changes when I change Metering and AF mode. I will be using the camera for general shooting but I will use it a lot for bird close ups. It seems I will be changing from 1-Area to Pinpoint and Center weighted to Spot Metering Mode. Thanks
What is the maximum exposure time this camera can do? I understand it's only 4 seconds vs. 15 seconds for the Canon SX740HS, another point & shoot camera I'm interested. If only 4 seconds, then that's a shame as I'd like to take pictures of the night skies. Thanks ...
Hi I'm interested in the Panasonic tz95 in silver. Are the silver dials etc and silver top panel plastic or metal. As think the silver paint will wear off on plastic thanks
Thank you so much for the walk through!!! Greatly appreciated, very helpful to me as a starting point. I am wondering if there is a u-tube or if any one knows how to take night photos of the moon or stars - nature, not in a city.
Very informative, thanks for posting! On the main menu, Digital Zoom is not highlighted and I cant turn this function on. Would you know why? Same for HDR. Thank you again.
Are you capturing your images in RAW quality? That can be a cause. So can being in a creative mode or using tools like 4K burst or Post Focus. If you cannot figure out what is keeping you from exploring those options, you can reset the settings in the wrench tab and that should fix the problem.
How does the rechargeable battery at 2:59 work? Is it a battery sold separately thats entered there? How do I get max video and photo battery? And why SD card is recommended for max storage? Love how informative your video is!
Thank you, great job. I have a question. There's an annoying sub-window that comes up, it has arrows on all 4 sides. What is it for? How do I get rid of it? I see it when I go into manual focus,. but other times as well.
This is the manual focus assist, where it magnifies a part of the image so you can ensure it’s in focus, and it can get a bit annoying but it can also be very helpful as well! To turn this feature off, head to the menu > go to the custom tab, the wrench with the C > focus/release shutter > page 2, MF Assist > turn it to Off. Then you shouldn’t see it again! Hope this helps!
You are 100% correct about the ISO, anything over 1000 is very noisy. Because of this I am returning this camera. Do you have a suggestion of another camera that has this type of zoom but better ISO performance?
I just bought th zs80 and I have 1 question, in P A S M modes the zoom only goes to 72mm. I have to go to Ai mode to zoom to 720mm. What am I doing wrong ?
Sounds like you have a mode on, like macro focusing, post focus, or 4K burst. Go into the menu, go to the wrench tab, and find reset. Should get you right back to normal!
Thank you so much for this very useful information. I do have one question though... regarding the size of my screen when I take photos.ie: its more square than rectangular. I think that somehow I made it smaller. It doesn't seem to fit the whole face of my camera. I am imagining that Aspect Ratio is where I adjust it, but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks again!😊
your walk through is very helpful, i purchased this camera for travel after having double shoulder replacement surgery, i am not experienced with it, i am hoping you can give me some setting tips for shooting in video for the first time, i am taking an Alaskan cruise, and am hoping and planning on shooting whales. i am excitied and don't want to come home dissappointed, any tips will be greatly appreciated, it was suggested to me that i put the camera in ia,,and just let it roll
Hello, I have a question with this camera. What mode/How to shoot a portrait photo of a person? Whenever I shoot a person, it doesn't have a blurred background.
Point and shoot cameras are tricky to achieve the blurred background effect naturally. Your subject needs to be in good light, closer to you and the background needs to be farther away. Otherwise, the Sony ZV-1 has a similar portrait mode option like the iphone offers.
Your videos are the best - so clear and organized! I was leaning toward buying this camera, in part because I like the texture. It seems that it would be easier to hold. However, I also watched your LX10 so now I'm torn. Seems like the major differences are sensor size and zoom. Anything else I should consider? I'm mainly buying the camera for outdoor vacation pics, taking photos at my kids' graduations, pre-prom photos. I prefer holding a camera to my iPhone. My last digital camera purchase was Olympus Stylus 1 in 2016?
Due to the fact this model has a lot more zoom, I would say go with the ZS80. However, if you want something in the middle, I am a big fan of the ZS200.
Thank you so much for this video - it's been a great help in getting to know the camera. One question: there isn't a button on my camera where you point to Fn4 as being your favorite, just the painted letters and number. Is this right? Thank you.
Very good explanation. One question: how come on macro settings the 3rd setting which is macro with zoom is greyed out? I just can't see how to be able to use it?
@@Shutterbug101 Thank you. True, it is set to off; but the button that shows it as off is also greyed out so how can I turn it back on. There must be another setting that I am missing??
@@Shutterbug101 I think I have figured it out. It appears that my problem is that I was shooting in RAW. As soon as I changed to JPeg I could change the digital zoom back to "on" and I could shoot in macro zoom.
Great overview!! **Question " What is the preferred type and size of SD Card?" I just purchased this camera for a cruise in May This is my first digital cam, I used to shoot a LOT in 35MM ( Nikpn EM Canon F1) but that was a hundred years ago...
I would get a 64GB U3 SD card, but here is a video explaining more of what that means when you are looking! th-cam.com/video/yRFukBqFuVM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Mx0AO6nrrv64gv4o

As far as I can tell, You can assign that ring to do one specific thing rather than open a menu.

Nothing different in software or features, really. Just an updated version with I think a bigger viewfinder.
Hi I'm interested in the Panasonic tz95 in silver. Are the silver dials etc and silver top panel plastic or metal. As think the silver paint will wear off on plastic thanks
They are metal, and I find it takes quite a bit to cause any wear to the silver areas.
Thank you so much for the walk through!!! Greatly appreciated, very helpful to me as a starting point. I am wondering if there is a u-tube or if any one knows how to take night photos of the moon or stars - nature, not in a city.
I’m having trouble uploading images to my smart phone. Is there a video for this?
Can I use digital zoom in mode iA ? Or it s only for M, S, A ? Thanks
Regarding my question... I got it. Thank you. I guess the Aspect Ratio did work afterall. Cheers.
@@Shutterbug101 Thank You!
@@Shutterbug101 How should I use the PIP for MF?
The sub window is the PIP for MF so you can see on the screen in the zoomed in box when it’s visually in focus.
I very much enjoyed your overview. The resolution of my images is 180. How do i increase that on the camera? Thank you
You are 100% correct about the ISO, anything over 1000 is very noisy. Because of this I am returning this camera. Do you have a suggestion of another camera that has this type of zoom but better ISO performance?
Is a wireless remote shutter release available for this camera. I know about the smartphone but I do not have one. Thanks
Bill K unfortunately no, you have to use a smart device with the Panasonic Image App in order to have a remote option
Fantastic review, covers everything 👍
I just bought th zs80 and I have 1 question, in P A S M modes the zoom only goes to 72mm. I have to go to Ai mode to zoom to 720mm. What am I doing wrong ?
Sounds like you have a mode on, like macro focusing, post focus, or 4K burst. Go into the menu, go to the wrench tab, and find reset. Should get you right back to normal!
@@Shutterbug101 thank you very much, enjoy your tutorials very much
The dial where you are supposed to be able to go to AF, flash, EV,, etc. just keeps going to a focus grid, doesn't come back to the menu.
Are you referring to the dial on the back of the camera?
Thank you so much for this very useful information. I do have one question though... regarding the size of my screen when I take photos.ie: its more square than rectangular. I think that somehow I made it smaller. It doesn't seem to fit the whole face of my camera. I am imagining that Aspect Ratio is where I adjust it, but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks again!😊
Thank you for a brilliant guide!
hi. how do i shoot macro close ups pl
While it won’t be a true macro, by either using the iA mode or changing your autofocus, you can access macro focus!
your walk through is very helpful, i purchased this camera for travel after having double shoulder replacement surgery, i am not experienced with it, i am hoping you can give me some setting tips for shooting in video for the first time, i am taking an Alaskan cruise, and am hoping and planning on shooting whales. i am excitied and don't want to come home dissappointed, any tips will be greatly appreciated, it was suggested to me that i put the camera in ia,,and just let it roll
Thank you so much for your Reply. 😊
Thank you.
Should be the button right next to the painted Fn4 :)
Excellent review! Thanks!
How does it perform in low light conditions???
Low light specifically, it is not one of its strengths. You are better off going with the ZS100 model!
Does the lens need or allow fitting of a lens hood?
This camera does not have the ability to use a lens hood, and fortunately, you do not need one.
Thank you for your walk thru!!
Very good explanation. One question: how come on macro settings the 3rd setting which is macro with zoom is greyed out? I just can't see how to be able to use it?
Great question! This is most likely due to the digital zoom being turned off in your shooting menu!
It’s amazing how one setting can set off multiple others! Glad you found the issue!
