      @@pizzapizza2424 one guy said you cant just buy the sprocket so not they make you buy the complete icemaker, however these ice makers are in most frigs and are really common ! If you are like myself and like to beat them at there own game , look on craigslist for one someone is giving away and just ask them if you can have the ice maker out of it . I just replaced the one in my frigidaire with one out of whirlpool that I am getting rid of! It fit right in no problem.

    best video on this no water subject. thanks. I checked all the things you said. took apart unit in freezer checked switches. Replaced valve as i knew i was supposed to test first but forgot cause I was waiting 2 daylate amazon prime. Nothing worked. It was frozen fill tube that pops out the back. simple removal of this is not in any video until the 10th one i watched. you don't even disconnect the water supply, use it to turn and pull out the tube. filled with ice. dont even open the fridge for this. CHECK THIS FIRST!

    Must say out of all that I researched this gave the best step process for the ice maker. I had been working with a different problem trying to get it colder for our long term storage and had a great result until the ice maker just stopped. Your video let me know that the gear system was tied to the water and as soon as I pulled that front off I saw a broken gear. Thanks a whole lot.

    Right on brother! The adjustment screw inside the ice making unit connected to the switch, was too tight (towards the - side). I loosened that screw (towards the + side) and sure enough, the water started flowing. So i pushed it back just enough to turn the switch off. Big thumbs up. My only regret is that i bought the water pump/solenoid unit before i saw your video.

    Interesting find......I learned recently that this is the adjustment for cube size. My cubes got too big to melt completely when being ejected, so a chunk would occasionally jam the fingers. One other thing i forgot to add was that the water can freeze in the tube from the back of the refrigerator to the trays. But if you switched the solenoid wires and water comes out, then it isn't a blocked tube. So i'm not sure.

    Great Video, ever since someone pulled the fridge out from the wall and pulled the water connection from the fridge the ice maker stopped working.
    So i tested the lines to make sure they're not clogged or frozen water inside, then tried taking water, but the water came out extremely slow, was told the filter wasn't changed in 2 years. so going to start with that and have them order a new filter, which i hope will allow for the water to come out faster then play around with the switches and see if any of the solenoids are dead and the 3 prong switch.
    Thanks for the very informative video.

    Nice systematic approach. My GE monogram has access to that screw from the front panel. I recently adjusted it to reduce the size of the cube so they wouldn’t get stuck in the chute. Might be good to start there and then hit the more complicated things like pulling the icemaker out and or the refrigerator out to test the solenoids.

    Great troubleshooting, great video! You talk to us like we have half a brain, and do good analysis. I've got a French door Frigidaire Gallery (FGUN2642LF0) with ice maker in bottom drawer. Purchased it new in summer of 2013. It stopped making any ice about a week ago, and today the heat wave broke enough, for me to decide to get to work on it.
    I first went for the input valve solenoid like you did. Continuity on the coils and input water-flow tested good. I also saw water in both tubes to and from the water filter, and the one to the ice maker. I didn't think of testing for input signal to the solenoid, but will try that next if necessary. I lifted both bins out of the bottom drawer to access the ice maker (awkward at my age), and removed the ice maker mechanism from the side wall to be able to examine it. All looked good, except there was no water in the trays.
    My present diagnosis is a clogged water filter. I don't have a water dispenser, so the filter only feeds the ice maker. I changed it once after about 3 years. and haven't changed it again. We have good town water here, and we don't make that much ice. The ice transparency has stayed fairly good, so I haven't changed filter again. I'm hoping it's just a clogged filter . . . I'll know tomorrow when the new one arrives.
    If it isn't a bad filter, I'm going right to the analysis process you used here. I saw that spring-tension screw for the first time today when I pried off the front cover plate, and wondered what it did. Now I know and will look into that if the filter doesn't fix it. You're a bright young fellow. Good luck in your life, and thanks again for your great analysis and video.

    I replaced the solenoid due to a different ‘how to’ video and that wasn’t the issue. Came back to TH-cam and found this video. One of the best how to’s I’ve seen! Very detailed and full of useful information. I have tried everything in this video, switching connections, testing switches, testing continuity….nothing worked. Does this mean the whole unit is bad?
    For reference, I do get water to the fridge, and when the connectors were switched, water went to the ice maker when the water lever was pushed

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So if you get water to the icemaker, when the connectors are switched, that means: you have water, solenoids are good, no blockages...but the icemaker isn't sending power to turn on the solenoids. So there's something wrong in the icemaker. I got lucky and it was just the adjuster screw. I unscrewed it until water poured out, then screwed it back in a little. Not sure what your problem is if you checked everything. Maybe easier to just buy a new one.

    Dave, awesome video (very clear). Thanks! Just racked my brain fixing a whirlpool In-Door icemaker. The wiring harness at the bottom of the freezer door was damaged. The icemaker sends the Thermostat information to the main control board. The main control board then turns on the relay that turns on the solenoid that controls the water to the icemaker. Of course, I misdiagnosed the problem as a faulty control board...

  • @darrellparsons246
    @darrellparsons246 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On testing the solenoid, some solenoids may have a normal resistance just over 200 ohms. If the ohmmeter does not automatically set the range, and if it is set on the 200 ohm range, then the solenoid could test "open" eg faulty (on my ohmmeter this is indicated by a "1" at the far left). Move the range to 2000 ohms, and it will test for a maximum resistance of 2000 ohms, while the 200 range will only test to a maximum resistance of 200 ohm and could cause a false assumption that the solenoid is "open". I find many people get confused about which range to use for resistance. I keep things simple by starting at 200 ohms, then move to 2000 only if it shows "open". I have 6 good solenoids in front of me now. 2 of them were slightly over 200 ohms, e.g. 240 and 250 ohms.
    By the way, I appreciate the links to amazon. I have purchased many replacement electronic parts through amazon. Again thanks for the videos.

    Great informative video! Thank you. .One more thing I'd like to add is @3:00 where you are removing the icemaker itself, mine had an additional screw below the unit. itself. The top screws cam be just loosened but the bottom one must be completely removed. Of course you can't actually SEE any of them without a mirror. Good luck and thanks again!

      Not sure if it's 100% needed. But ya, took me a long time to get it back on. I think i ended up using pliers and a screw driver? It was terrible to do.

      @@DaveWirth Hi Dave- ask Amy said, my spring too fell off. Q: in your vid at the 3:37 mark I stopped it to try and see both spring ends and their exact positioning. I see the lower end simply rest agains the plastic housing. The top end that's very close to the coil itself - do you recall if it was as it looks, looped around the bail arm thus providing the tension needed to 'keep the arm down' when flipped down? Thx for any info. Regards

    • @dscuss9751
      @dscuss9751 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amy - yes, the specifics of what end goes where are correct in Dave's video right at the 3:37 mark. Stop it there and you'll see the A) the bottom of the spring simply rests agains the plastic housing and B) the top - look verrrrry closely and you'll see the 6 'windings' of the coil around the arm where the 6th, last one - farthest from the camera actually 'loops under' the arm. Thanks again Dave!!!! Regards

    Thank you so much for this video. Dave My Frigidare ice maker stopped making ice as the water wasnt flowing. I followed your steps to hopefully not have to buy anything unneeded. Got up to checking the switches, and accidently put the water switch in the wrong prong. When I plugged it into test, water started instantly flowing and wouldn't stop. Unplugged, fixed the switch and put it back. Now, no water is flowing. Is that switch bad?

    Dave... I took apart ice maker all the way to switch location. But, I need a diagram on how to put it back together. You said something about a indentation on white plastic piece. When putting back together is water switch open in that area? Send picture if you have one of the inside. THX

    • @DaveWirth

      The micro-switch was behind the metal plate. at 5:35 Same with that cam with the indentation.

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richprilliman1820 I don't really remember where it went. But i think at 3:45 and 5:10 the cam goes in between the 2 switches, in that round opening. So the cam first activates 1 switch to fill up the tray with water, then it keeps rotating, then it activates the 2nd switch, which dumps the ice.
      So just align the cam indentation with the red switch buttons.

    Hey and thx for posting ! That screw adjuster adjusts the size of the cubes by adding water or not adding as much water for smaller cubes. Thats weird that it was your problem and it sure wasnt anything any of the so called experts on here ever mentioned! Thats probably the easiest thing to check too! I have the same problem with my frig and I am only starting to diagnose it! Basically the same frig too its a frigidaire about 10 yrs old.

    Thank you for the video! So I skipped some steps and went straight to the adjustment screw, I tested it by backing it out all the way and seeing if the water would pour out, and it did. If doing that works can I assume from that the solenoid and switch also work?

    For a GE Profile refrigerator Model PSS26MSW icemaker model WR30X10093, the fill bar stays "up" after it dumps, preventing additional ice from being made and filling the bucket. The bucket never fills. What can I do to make the fill bar stay "down" after a dump?
