This Delboy is a guesser. The ECU has an adaptive table and yes, it does relearn fuelling within set parameters but this is for instances such as after a service when valves are adjusted, air filter changed etc ...basically a factory reset. The factory filter isn't just a random design, it damps out sound waves and provides a buffer for the high velocity airflow changes when intake valves open/close across the whole rev range UNLIKE a race filter only designed for working at high revs. This exhaust and filter combo needs a ECU flash (ever wondered why Triumph provide these?) as it will run way too lean. I'm amazed how some of my customers quote this guy who is just some hobbyist making videos to earn cash. Why do people get sucked into this BS from some stranger with no qualifications they have never even met?
I would all ways use the stock filters they will all ways filter the best, I gues if you drop the bike in deep water you would be changing the filter any way. But if your conscious about the land fill part you could just burn and use the ashess for compost. But each one to their own.
Can't burn em Ian, thick rubber backing !! and like i said, they only filter better while they're clean, and with 10k service intervals now, you'll be changing them between services if you want them that way !
The local inspector checking out the "chicken strips" on the tires ??? 😁 Being an old buzzard it does sometimes seem to me that manufacturers are in some secret competition to make frequently serviced maintenance items difficult to get at. My Versys needs to have the tank removed to get at filters, plugs etc. Ranting aside that bike is beautiful !!! I bet you and Penny can't wait for the new riding season. Many thanks to you both. Sure thing mate, bikes do seem to get harder to work on every year, particularly as they pack so much electronics in to them now, that's why I like doing up old bikes! Have a great week and keep safe mate, D&Px

Thanks for the viedeo. I have a question regarding the Euro 5 and your note to leave the rubber snorkel (5:31 - 5:59): Do you know what the technical reason is to let it stay compared to Eruo 4? I understand that you don't need the booster plug and that the booster plug isn't necessary/notuseful. But I don't get it with the snorkel. It's the same design I guess for Euro 5 and 4. Would be great to get an idea what the technical benif is to let it stay. Thanks and warm regards from Germany.
Hi Martin, check in with TEC Bike Parts for a more precise explanation as they've done all the dyno testing in conjunction with DNA on both the Euro 4 and Euro 5 bikes... and it was discovered on the dyno that the Euro 5 bikes run too lean with the snorkel removed... which was not the case on Euro 4, apparantly the Euro 5 bikes run leaner than before to comply with the ever tightening European regulations, so you must leave the snorkel in.
@@Moonfleet41 That's so effing annoying. Apparently the airflow is improved by 40% by the washable filter, so if the bike can compensate for that, why can't it compensate for the 8% difference in flow rate that the snorkel provides? I guess the only remedy is a full remap. Assuming it's possible on the Euro5 ECUs.
@@TheOriginalCoda That is apparently so according to TEC bike parts who developed the filter with DNA on a dyno.. and apparently No, it cannot push as far as the snorkel removal too as it then ran lean. and it seems the remap is a lot more of a challenge on the E5 engines ! but i run my bike with baffle in and snorkel in, and it makes a big improvement, and im more then happy with the sound. The biggest improvement of all has been losing 5Kg of 'high carried' weight by taking those 'cat filled' silencers off !
@@Moonfleet41 That's exactly why I'm so interested in changing the exhaust, all that top-heavy weight, and a better flowing intake/exhaust system plus a remap should easily produce a ton more power. But I am wondering if it's even possible to get into these E5 ECUs at the moment...

Thinks: Why did Triumph place the air filtration there? Yes, a good plenum chamber is vital & once molded, can quite happily survive unmolested behind the electron-pixie's massive telephone exchange 'plate', but for ease of necessary access, wouldn't a pancake filter nestled under the seat pan's nose, be better able to feed yon rubbery snorkels with the good stuff? Del we hear a lot saying with a free flow filter the decat pipe they run to lean , need to be mapped or a power commander fitted, what’s your thoughts ?
According to the video on TEC's own website, they developed the pipe and the filter working with DNA through rolling road testing, this, apparently is how they came to the conclusion that you need to run the rubber snorkel in the air box AND the baffle in the exhaust. with these consideration the auto adjust can happily cope with these mods..! but naturally, take those out and you'd certainly need a remap !
Filter change looked really easy on that one Del! Nothing like the FJR or BMW sadly! Haha! I agree re washable filters.... Always use them and never had an issue
Absolutely mate, easy enough to get to and a ten minute job... good job too with the service intervals being 10K now, you're not gonna want to leave the filter that long, so no big shakes to whip it out every few months if you ride off road and give it a rinse through and re-oil..
I normally change my air filter once per year. There was a time i wanted to invest in a washable filter but remember that i couldnt get a clear answer as to how to wash and dry them. My garage told me to use air compression which i do not have. How should the average person wash and dry them. Thanks in advance or just bypass this question if you want , no problem :) Cheers
In the description i left a link to the DNA cleaning kit, it contains a solvent to wash the filter in, and once it's dry there i a bottle of filter oil to re-oil it.. Ill be making a demo video once that time comes around.. but most washable filters have a cleaning kit available and usually with instructions..!
I'm about to fit a set of SP Engineering Slash Cuts on my Euro 5 scram. Even with baffles fitted, chances are the bike will run a bit lean while having the filter installed. A tune would then be recommended? Have to say I really enjoy your videos - make things a whole lot easier for a newbie :)
Hi Johan, i imagine SP Engineering will have done testing for their pipes, and be able to advise you on setup..! Good luck with it, and have fun. !
My concern would be the level of filtration, the limitations of which can be demonstrated in Project Farm's video where he tests a oiled cotton K&N filter against paper filters th-cam.com/video/sJ3L-E-ufYo/w-d-xo.html
Like i said, it's an interesting debate, and paper filters do catch smaller particles..and it's all very well testing a pile of different filters.. but they were all clean.. no filter works once its bunged up.. and with a washable, you can keep it clean every few months of you wanted to.. or even after a particularly dusty day out mud pluggin... but with paper ones.. you'd have to buy new ones over and over...or would you wait 10k miles to the next service.?.. Just my take on it mate.!
@@Moonfleet41 Yes all good points. I was surprised at the results of the Project Farm test, the difference between the cotton and paper filters was significant. For the recreational rider, as opposed to the racer, it makes me wonder if the engine would suffer premature wear, especially between the pistion rings and cylinder bore. I suppose it just goes to show you can't have it all.
Top tutorial & videographer. Have fitted washables to every vehicle I’ve owned, pays for themselves after a couple of years & gives better mpg. What’s not to like. Good to see you’re neighbour too 🤣
Sure thing mate, simple economics specially when the service intervals are so much wider these days! It's no big shakes to whip it out between services and give it a clean.
As long as you blow from a safe distance so as not to rupture the paper pleats, and of course from the BACK so you don't blow the dirt deeper into the filter... it's ok a few times, but that doesn't get them clean mate, just removes the worst of the loose stuff.. paper filters get clogged at a microscopic level and they simply need to be replaced.. if you get a washable one and the kit to clean it.. you'll never buy another filter again.. and the cost is maybe 2 or three paper ones at best..!
Excellent and clear instructions! Do have a question. Would a hi-flow filter like DNA be of any use for a stock scrambler 1200? Or any stock motorcycle?
Nice video Del. I am with you, oiled reusable filters all the way. I think that bike would go really well on the dirt roads and tracks of this side of the pond. Is this your new wheels ? Penny and you enjoy the last part of your week. Cheers
Hi buddy, yes it is, dream bike, lifetime to get here, and I agree, washable filter all the way... with 10k service intervals and a bike designed for muddy roads, it's bizarre to think that a paper filter will last all the way to the next service, so with enthusiastic off road use, you're gonna be throwing half a dozen filters in the trash before the next visit to the dealer! More mods to come and maybe even a little fabrication!
I’m a big fan of the reusable filters as well, Del. I’ve made it a habit to label them all with a piece of tape that says “permanent filter- do not throw away” in case of future stupidity on my part! 🏍👍🏍
That's a great idea Gary, after all, not everyone's blessed with common sense, am sure that a clock watching mechanic would sooner swop the filter over than take the time to take the filter out and re-oil it, specially when they can bill you for it!!
These days Andy, they're all good, Harley, Triumph, Honda, all of them... the front row manufacturers have all upped their game in equal merit, it's the Chinese are far Eastern bikes that are playing catch up.
The neighbour made me laugh. I've got used to the mapping adjusting to different components now, and am duly impressed by that detail and function. Interesting debate on paper vs reusable filter. Common sense seems to prevail here. Nuther excellent 8 mins, thanks :)
Thanks Tony, simple decision in my book.. but i do understand the other side of the debate.. shame there isn't one with both benefits... now that is a holy grail..lol!
Thanks for showing that task, Del. They must have absolute clean air at Triumph UK to construct the air filter (which you clean ever so often when riding dirt roads on a Scrambler) behind all those electrical components ;-) Even my venerable Transalp 600 PD06 has just the air filter housing (3 screws) behind the plastik fairing, no wiring, no undoing the carbs. Only the K&N to wash and reoil from time to time.
Yeah, i think this bike has been a victim of form over function in a small way here.. whilst the filter breaths through the snorkel at the top, and that area is free from clutter, as you saw it's still a need to put the wiring furniture somewhere safe away from heat and moisture.. and i guess this was the only place..!
OMG. My Thruxton of similar vintage has such filthy electronics. Just looking at them causes loose connections. I’ve had it two years only. I’m so envious of how clean that bike is. I wish more folks would look after their bikes like that. Imma go get a DNA filter now. 🐓
Great video brother !!!! very nice and quick air filter installation 👍 very good debate on the filters 🤙 agree %100 percent !! stay safe guys cheers from new york !!!!! 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Nice! Never used the DNA! I currently use the sprint filter, that doesn't need to be oiled and are waterproof (just blow them every service). Nice stuff! Thanks for the video!
TEC Bike Parts did extensive testing with the Euro 5 bikes using the booster plug and found no benefit what so ever... By all means consult directly with them if you need clarification mate !
The new ECUs set a tamper alert. That means at least having a permanent service icon (check engine light) on your dash. The booster plug people go into this on their website.
Forecast of doom !! Six months to year from now I'm gonna see endless amounts of these with ridiculous electrical issues because some ham fisted DIY'er has fitted an upgraded filter and screwed the pooch on reassembly Indicator switches powering anything and flashing full beams 🤣👍 Don't ye just love modern bikes 👎👎
The only reasonable benefit of a paper filter is that you can get back to riding quicker. Unless you have TWO washable filters, you have to wait for the filter to dry completely prior to re-oiling it and getting it back into the bike. If you have a second filter, you can always have one at the ready on the shelf to eliminate the wait time for drying. Of course, that also means double the expense of the washable filter (ouch).
Not as bad as it looks as technically speaking, when you fit a new filter (or a freshly cleaned one), you should run the bike as I demonstrated from stone cold, preferably overnight, to allow it to auto adjust to the new inlet resistance, so a perfect chance to let the washable filter dry!

Ask them fot fresh eggs in the morning !
You get a good feel of quality when you work on things , in your opinion Dell what make of bike is the best ?
@@Moonfleet41 No bike is perfect ;-)
You would put paper filters in but you've gone chicken 🐔
Now ya NEED to build a Chicken Chaser 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't have to go through all that the intersepter has the filter under the left side cover
Great video, as always! I far prefer the oiled, reusable filters....usually a noticeable power gain as well! Cheers to you both!
Good point Allen, the data on the website claims 40% increase in air flow and that has to be a benefit! Have a good week there, keep safe, D&Px
Thanks buddy 👍, once you buy one of these by he first time you've cleaned it you're already saving money! Have a great week both, keep safe, D&Px
anyone know the valve clearance specs for a 2005 gsx 750f katana
Nice bird Del!
Happy New Year!
Happy new year mate... when lunch wanders in, what else can you do..lol!
Lovely tutorial Del. Gives confidence to tackle these jobs.
Nice! Never used the DNA! I currently use the sprint filter, that doesn't need to be oiled and are waterproof (just blow them every service). Nice stuff! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing François !
You make motorcycle maintenance enjoyable time ⏲️
a bit off topic i replaced the air filter on my T120 bonneville and i am sure the filter on the T120 looks to be smaller am i right ?
Great choice of air filter Del 🇬🇷
Fef?
"Faf", "Faffing", a Verb meaning messing about !
thanks for another good video.
Well said, Del. And fantastic tutorial, very detailed. Yes it was a simple task, but you can always make mistakes. Now, it cannot happen 👍
Glad you enjoyed it mate, thank for your kind feedback.
First thing I did with my bike was change to a washable filter, long term you save money on your service, next nothing goes to land fill.
Are you sure Booster Plug doesn’t work on the new Euro 5 model? If not, any clue why.
I have a 2024 scrambler 1200xe. i can't take out the rubber snorkel correct? leave it in?
Forecast of doom !!
Six months to year from now I'm gonna see endless amounts of these with ridiculous electrical issues because some ham fisted DIY'er has fitted an upgraded filter and screwed the pooch on reassembly
Indicator switches powering anything and flashing full beams 🤣👍
Don't ye just love modern bikes 👎👎
great work you do..sir
Many thanks!
what a horrible placement for a maintenance item like the filter.
Hi Richard, not so much the placement, it's a common location, it's just all the clutter they have to place in front of it now!!
OK Del
So who's your little friend then.
Does the Hen sign off on all the jobs you do.
Nick Australia
Yeah, she's a bit of a poser.. swaggers about like she owns the place.. lol.!
