Anyone else think that the rearmost heat shield now looks too big, covering the single silencer?
ME! ... it looks ridiculous tbh, but guess it was desgined to be a number board Scrambler stylee, but now it's redundant it does look a bit daft, so am going to roll and nice snug single heatshield in a coming video!
Looks like a replacement or a little manipulation is required.
Depending on if wanting to go back to stock
Please, do your magic and replace It...
Del please sort the rear cover it completely ruins the look of the buzzorst.
Yep, I agree, I think tec or del should make a smaller one, in fact I insist del should have a whole video on aluminium heat shield bending.
Hi Del, sorry I’m enjoying seeing how different this bike is to my old ‘07 model. But who’s bike is this, did you treat yourself or are you doing some how-to videos in partnership with Tec bikeparts? Have ridden it? What’s it like?
Thank you for everything you do on this channel. I just installed the same exhaust on my bike. This was so helpful especially because on the Flank Tec site they don't even mention that you should idle for 15min for the ECU to adjust.
My future ride.. presently on a speed twin 1200❤
As a Triumph Scrambler 1200XC owner, I find it quaint that Triumph refers to the decorative panels on the exhaust as "heat shields". As mine is a 2019, the cat was right next to my right calf, and de-catting it reduced the radiant heat by an average of 50 degrees (Fahrenheit). I also found that if I had even as little as three or four mph of airflow, the perceived exhaust heat was negligible.
Indeed, this was the exact reason that drove the decision to move the cat back in to the silencers!
Hi, I installed these slip ons a couple of weeks ago but I wasn't aware of the step to let the bike idle for 15mins for it to learn the new exhaust and adjust fuel map. Can this step be done later? Is it only about letting the bike idle for 15mins and turning it off?
Nice video. How much louder would you say it is over stock exhaust? I'm trying to find any info to see if adding the extra baffle would get it close to
Hey Brian, It is a fair bit louder but i couldn't even begin to guess if it's over 96db.. sound is so subjective and hard to judge... but luckily this system could indeed be made to be absolutely NO louder then stock.! As you have removed the CAT converters by taking the silencers off, then you can add a considerable amount of extra back pressure to this open pipe without detriment.. either make a more restrictive baffle in the back end, or add an extra baffle into the mid pipe tube just in front of the TEC muffler.! if you are in any doubt though, you can contact TEC directly and they are always happy to advise on these things if you need. Good luck with it and have fun sir..!
What was the torque setting for the paddock bobbins?
Looking for the same answer
Great video again. Much prefer these ones in which you explain things.
The tune you did though, I think it was done wrong. If it’s the same as the 12 minute tune to reset the adaptations then the process is -
Start engine and let it run until the fan kicks in. Don’t touch the throttle.
Once the fan starts let it run for 12 minutes, then turn the bike off again without touching the throttle.
I've heard several variations on it, that being one of them, another being, run it for 20mins, switch it off, then take it for a ride, up and down the gearbox, different kinds of road and then switch off and re-start... fundamentally, the ECU is learning all the time constantly, not just in idling cycles... if you're in any doubt mate, you can consult with TEC Bike Parts directly as they developed this exhaust and also the DNA filter that goes with it, which we're fitting in a coming video shortly.
Anyone knows if this exhaust can be installed on 22 models?
www.tecbikeparts.com/product/tec-flank-2-1-tailpipe-scrambler-1200-xe-xc/
The new system looks and sounds great and saved a bunch of weight as a fringe benefit. Sounds like a win-win-win to me. It's nice that the ECM can"'re-map" itself to get the most out of the exhaust upgrade. Over on the automotive side it's getting so any part you replace these days requires some kind of reprogramming or software update. Don't mind me....just a grumpy old timer who misses the good old (simple) days.😁 Thanks to you and Penny for brightening up these cold gloomy winter days. Blessings and good wishes.❤👍👍
I feel your pain Rick, it's so much more restrictive now, all down to emission controls I guess, but once we get our head round it, it's actually quite easy to work on and a little less fuss... plus of course today's bikes make so much more efficient power than they used to in our day! Take care and keep safe, thank you for your wonderful support, D&Px
Love your videos! Is this the exhaust you would recommend and why? Are the straight/slash cut pipes too loud?
Many thanks for your work.
As some people have already noted, yourself included Del, virtually all modern ECMs are capable of adjusting fuel trims to some extent. My ST is perfectly fine with an aftermarket air filter and exhaust and those bikes are now coming up on 20 years since their introduction. Pretty nice to have some adjustability in that regard straight out of the box. That being said, ultimate/redline performance will not be greatly impacted as a result either but you will more likely than not experience performance improvement throughout the rev range more so than at the top end.
You're absolutely right, adjustability is critical because as an air filter gets dirty and is suddenly changed for a new one at service, they'll be a sudden increase in air flow, so there must be adjustability in a map when these bikes are now forced to run so lean. In next week's video I've the DNA performance air filter going in to compliment the exhaust, it's been developed between TEC and DNA specifically to run on this bike with the Flank exhaust, and you're also right, that there won't really be any extra top end rush, it's bottom end grunt that's best gained through the engine's ability to take a deeper breath more easily. Thanks for your wonderful support, as always, have a calm and peaceful New Year, ride safe, D&Px
I have an XE 2022 and yesterday I received my "TEC Flank" 2-Into-1 Exhaust , I said it was for the EURO 5 version but how can I know if it has been sent correctly? The TH-camr "Life of a Scrambler" doesn't recommend to go without CAT because it can damage the engine, is that true? TECBIKE on their website says this : Euro 5 models - The Flank will fit Euro 5 models but you must fit the baffle provided with the kit. How can I check that mine has it? Sorry for so many questions! Many thanks!!!!!! :D
Hi there, you can absolutely take it as read that if TEC Bike Parts say that their Flank exhaust is good for Euro5, then it is! They don't just make these exhausts up because they look nice, they develop them through rolling road testing, in all conditions, and the same goes for the DNA filter, they work directly with DNA to develop it for exactly your bike.... If you are in any doubt, you can call TEC Bike Parts and speak with George Milburn personally, he designed the system and developed it, and he will reassure you completely. The baffle provided should be fitted already in to your silencer, it's a small tube screwed in to the back end of the pipe with a button cap allen screw, this is the baffle, leave it in place, and you're perfectly good for Euro5. Once again, if in any doubt, check directly with TEC.
@@Moonfleet41 many thanks for your response! Now I understand, I had many doubts and your answer has helped me a lot! On Monday I will mount it, looking forward to hear the roar of the bug. Many thanks for everything!!!! :D
Thanks Gents - I was pondering these same questions about fitting one to my freshly minted XC, was a bit concerned about how it would work with no Cat… didn’t want to inadvertently damage summat..👍🏻
Wish I could fit on a street scrambler
Call me crazy but i like the stock exhaust and kept my XC stock.
Those after market sound great but i like my ride peaceful.
Ride safe !
This exhoust is cheap and with a great sound but I don't like the look of it - it's too small hiding under the scrambler plate. Now I have a problem - buy this for 200E or Zards for 1000E :) And 1 more thing - the DB killer is easy to remove ?
Nice video as always and great explanation - a really good addition to and update of George's on the Tec Bike Parts channel. That exhaust is such good value for money. Wish mine had gone on as easily as yours seemed to! A bit fiddly lining up and fixing the heatshield mounting bolts (it's always amateur hour in my garage...) but got there in the end. Tec also do an additional baffle for E5 bikes but it sounds so good without... Best wishes for 2023.
Sure thing mate, it is a bit of a fiddle to fit, but a little patience and you get there in the end! Thanks for your kind words, Happy New Year.
Oops, you spelt presence wrong in your introduction.
Easter Eggs for the trolls mate!!
That 12 pound loss at the very end of the bike will feel like losing 20 in the middle! You should enjoy some extra "flick-ability" in fast side-to-side transitions in twisty stuff. Those Ohlins should even work mo' betta than ever, too, with that much of a weight loss. Sounds great! .. I guess I'm wired differently than most, because I sorta like that big heat shield. Looks like a number plate! Great lighting in those dark places, by the way. You guys' videos are a treat to watch!
Thank you Tommy, and you're right, centralising the mass has been the holy grail of bike designers for years! And yes interestingly enough in the Triumph accessory catalogue you can buy an almost identical cover to go over the left hand side panel as a number board, so I guess it's a cap dof to it's competition roots... Take care and keep safe!
Yes
Prefer the original much more
Have you any advice for getting out stuck heatshrink screws? À cbf1000, and those screws ain't been out since it left Honda 16 yrs ago, after 59k miles of heat cycles they don't wanna move!
Sorry mate, what's a 'heatshrink screw'?
@@Moonfleet41 bollocks, friggin' autocomplete (which came out as omelette 1st try). I meant 'heatshield screws' on the exhaust. Face-palm.
Aha, I thought that might be the case... ok, I'd go about that like this... get yourself some quality penetrating oil and start soaking them over a few days, I know it's tedious but it works! Heat them up a little with a blowtorch, just enough to warm the metal through, then gently squirt on some penetrating oil and let it 'cook' it's way in... if you can get Kroil that's about the best there is, but anything is better than nothing! Then after a few days, warm them again, get a good purchase with the tool, and try and crack them off... also tapping them with a toffee hammer gently can help break the corosion grip. Also a product called Rostoff Blue Ice from Wurth can actually freeze the rust and help it crack free. Other than that mate, it's just luck and determination and of course, above all else, patience... once they move, don't just keep winding, wind them back in, then out again, and do the hokey-cokey with the pentrating oil till you gently nurse them out! Good luck with it mate.
@@Moonfleet41 thank you, I stopped before damaging the hex socket, it felt really soft metal
Much better instructions than tec channel 👍
ladies and gentlemen; i just met my future bike
Words of wisdom at the start, well said 👏
Love your videos but wish you would call out the tools/sizes you're using
Quality video on "how to".👍
Thanks mate 👍
I have to admit, when you started it and revved it, i did wonder what it would sound like with the baffle out, is it removable?. So easy to do, cheers Del.
Hi Neil, it is easily removable. It is plenty loud with the baffles in. I just let them be and did not touch em.
Haha, can't remember if I commented or not, sounds very throaty, so job well done, Happy New year for 2023 to you both, hope you and lovely Penny are fine and dandy.
Thanks Andy, we appreciate all your kind support this past year, have a fabulous 2023 yourself! D&Px
What force do you use in the bobins?
Which Bobbins mate?
Hi Del. Fantastic video as always. Do you know if the procedure for the ECU to "learn" about the new exhaust is exclusive to Triumph or would it work on a Ducati also?
Every ECU has the ability to adjust fueling for atmospheric conditions or even things like fitting a new clean air filter.. but whether your Ducati has enough width to accommodate an open exhaust i would not know mate.. you could check with your dealer, they will know the drill for fitting an aftermarket system, whether it has to have a fueling device or if it can cope as is.! Give em a call make, im sure they'd be happy to help.
@@Moonfleet41 Thanks for the reply Del. The Ducati dealer isn’t interested because they didn’t supply the pipe. The manufacturer of the pipe, Dominator, states that it doesn’t require a remap so I’ll go with that. I’ll try the procedure that you showed in the video anyway.
Well done!...nice throaty rumble!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for your support!
Hi Delboy.. Loving this Triumph. Just wondering about the exhaust heat sheilds, the back one looks off, too big with lots of space above an below.... Do Triumph not do a heat shield to match the new box? or could you make one that would look better? Cheers
Thatl teach me to look at the comments first... cannot wait to see how you make a new heat shield. God Blessed and happy new year
Sure thing mate, the heat shields on the Street Scrambler look perfect, but again they're not for a single exhaust so would still be out of place, this heat shield is effectively a competition style number board as well so it always looks a bit goofy without a number on it!
Interesting about the ECU learning the new exhaust. Can't help wondering how many other bikes can do that. Great sound though. May I wish you and your family a happy and safe new year. Thanks :)
There is adjustable 'band width' in all ECU maps to account for service changing of air filters (a sudden clean, new air filter has to be accomondated within the fuel map), it's just Triumph have always excelled at it with a little wider adjustment than most! Thank you for your kind wishes, may we wish you the same Tony!
KTM also has a learning ability something to with Lamda Sensors 🤷🏻♂️
@@Moonfleet41 Thanks :)
@@chrischristofis8501 Thanks :)
Damn that sounds amazing!....but why cover that beautiful 2 into 1 with shields beside the obvious reason...lol.
Will be making a bespoke snug heat shield in a video coming soon.
Nicel done, Del…. Sure sounds great. Does the MOT make a fuss about removal of cat converters? Hope you both are well. Having a warm spell here! Yahoo! 🏍👍🏍
Hi Gary, thankfully there are no emission regulations on the MOT test at this time, and apparently no plans for any, so the cat convertor's irrelevant for MOT. Have a good weekend both, enjoy that sunshine! D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 thank goodness! Take care, Mate! 😎
😮 Wow genial
any idea how many decibels is it?
Love it! Lookin' forward to the next instalment!
What model is the silver Triumph in the background?
2013 Triumph Scrambler 865.
Happy New Year to you both, Let hope 2023 is a good one,. Excellent job on the exhaust mate, sounds so sweet . That is one very cool looking Triumph, in joy the last part of your week. Take care, Cheers.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed, sounds even better in 'rear life'! Happy New Year to you too, have a peaceful and healthy 2023, all the very best from us both, D&Px
Happy new year Del and Penny x this is going to be the best year yet hand in hand we will see this channel soar!

Hello Marc, lovely to hear from you! Profound and stirring words as always, thank you for your love and support, D&Px
Nice looking system with a wopping weight saving. Thanks for showing that self-learning feature. Quite different from carb times. Cheers, Günter/Nürnberg
Cheers mate, technology makes life so much easier!
Very well-done video.
What happened to the red tank? Sorry if you mentioned or it’s in the comments already.
Changed it for a black tank mate !
Hiya Penny and Del. Thanks for another great video! Looks like a fun and easy project and sounds great. A word about your presentation style, Del - I appreciate being educated without being talked down to and you've got it exactly right. Besides the excellent production that goes into all of your episodes, they are both educational and entertaining. I have a number of TH-cam subscriptions but your videos are the ones I most look forward to. Take care and be well... and happy new year!
Hey buddy, thank you so much for your kind and inspirational words of support, it's wonderful to know you enjoy the videos, and that you get something from them to use and help you out. We all have our favourite creators, we have ours also, and it's a great honour to know we are yours, thank you so much for such generous and kind support. Have a Happy New Year, keep well and ride safe, D&Px
Del have you changed or painted the fuel tank, it looks different in earlier videos
Different fuel tank mate!
Happy Vroom! New Vroom! Year Vroom! You two! All the best for 2023 😀
You too buddy, great way to put it!! D&Px
Hooopla
Will a 2014 Scrambler 900 remap itself also, or does it have a different computer than the new ones?
Those can be remapped by your dealer to great effect.. ask about it in conjunction with what ever exhaust you want to fit, and it usually takes about half an hour !
@@Moonfleet41 So you are saying it wont remap itself and will cost extra on top of the slip ons? Im loving this scrambler but it is so quiet I cant "feel" it under me.
@@momoski68 it will adapt very slightly, but only like it does for a hot day or a cold morning..not to any better effect.. get it remapped and you'll certainly feel it then.! should only cost you half hours labour !
@@Moonfleet41 Thank you
I so enjoy your how-to postings. You explain clearly without talking down to an idiot like me. And the camera work exactly reinforces the method. Well done, both. And may 2023 be healthy and prosperous. Cheers!
Thank you kindly Guy, we really appreciate your kind support, have a wonderful, happy and peaceful New Year!
Is cat converter still in aftermarket or completely removed?? Know quite difference in weight. Would thought throws map sensor off a bit??
No mate, the cat convertors are entirely in the silencers and when you remove the silencers you remove every bit of the cat convertor, it's now fully open between the head and the short silencer... and fortunately the ECU is able to adjust the fuel mixture to run safely.
That’s Kwel!! Save pain in the rear… Lol… hate doing reprogramming to get set right.
I look forward to your heatshield because I know you're going to make one!
Sounds great Del.
👍✌️❤️
Sure thing Spring brother, that's the plan, coming shortly! Catch up at the weekend?? D&Px

Fantastic music but not a beauty…
George, happy new year with Health, if I put V&H exhaust on my Harley Iron XL 883n, will the brain ECU be able to read them? or will it need a program FP4? because I see that it happens automatically in triumph.Τhank you !!
Then - Two hours of visiting half a dozen different lay-bys, armed with 'the-skinny-tools', a pocket full of jets, new plugs for the final 'colour chop-test' & enough money to thaw out with hot tea & a fried Spam-critter from the life saving burger van!
Now - 'Bimbling' away to tune itself, while you go put the kettle on . . . Sometimes, 'old school' isn't really missed, eh? : )xx
Said that right buddy, hands up who remembers the ledar air corrector kit?... that was a day and a half up and down the road chasing your ass!
Ha, anyone remember the 'Wal Phillips fuel-injector'? 12 mpg & a berserk powerband over six hundred revs wide with explosive 'stits & farts' in between . . . sm-o-o--th! : )

Great quote buddy, thank you for sharing.
Do you guys ship to the US?
We are not TEC Bike Parts (but we do use a lot of them lol), you can contact TEC directly, I believe they have a US operation already over there.
@@Moonfleet41 Sorry about that! I saw the video and started screaming "TAKE MY MONEY!". I checked their site but it looks like they're out of stock :/
great vid my guy, tho that end heat shield dont look great, hope your keeping well
Hey Piers, doesn't that number board shield look daft now the pipe's so much smaller, it's on the list for replacement, a great opportunity to hand roll one on the English wheel, something small, neat and closer to the pipe! Happy New Year my friend, and keep safe.
Excellent system, but that big heat shield covering the lovely can.
Looks and sounds so much better than stock. And a decent weight saving too! Happy New Year to you both mate
Thanks buddy, great to hear from you, and a Happy New Year too!
And what a voice she has......! 😁Fabulous upgrade and makes a huge difference. Great job Del! Cheers.
Thank you Sir 👍, glad you approve!
What is that blue paste?
It's threadlock, basically a form of glue that locks the bolt in place so it can't rattle loose, also keeps out corrosion at the same time.
A far better sound. OEM exhausts rarely have that throaty roar, or as I like to think of it "the music of my people" 😁
I stubbied a Scorpion carbon can (from one of your old videos) and it has served 2 Bandits and now my VStrom 1000.
As always, stay safe and much love to yourself and PP 🤩
"The music of my people", one of the finest quotes ever! Have a great week and we both wish you a Happy New Year too mate!
