The entire story is like something out of a Shakespearean play mixed with themes of fatalism, destiny, free will, time travel, and prophecy. It's perfection.

I can't believe that there isn't enough support for another game. They could do so many things with the story. A prequel where you're Raziel and you build up your clan when he was a vampire. A reboot. A remake with modern graphics. Continue after Defiance with Kane trying to fix Nosgoth, you could be Raziel exploring the world inside the blade. So many great things.

The story must always be the centerpiece in any LoK game, I wouldn't like that if this Legacy was messed with only profits in mind. Recently purchased the collection on steam just to own the games I couldn't begin to understand playing as a child. The universe and story of Legacy of Kain is most intriguing and captivating for me, but I noticed the games themselves aren't that great looking at them today. The narrative in all games is definitely some of the best i've ever come across! But not including Blood Omen I (the original game with awesome narrative that I watched/listened to on TH-cam), I've hardly had much fun in any of the games except for Blood Omen II. The crushing bummer in both Soul Reaver games for me were that when the game didn't halt you to fight, combat was completely unnecessary since you could just bypass most encounters. It simply served no purpose to do battle with the usual ghouls, except when it was to gain health. The controls for keyboard users felt terrible with most combinations I could think of, but that was to be expected. But definitely reminiscent of the times when no game dev. company really knew what they were doing so we'd have these interesting control schemes to try. But then Blood Omen II reached a pinnacle where I felt the series' gameplay (with the controls) had evolved into decent action/adventure! And then defiance slapped me in the face with the camera, oh the camera! Like alone in the dark's point of views with the camera having motion sickness. I could not see Kain on my screen half of the five minutes I tried it out. Simply couldn't take it. TL:DR One of the greatest narrative/story/gameverse in a series of four games that haven't aged really well :/ As comments go this one's horrendously long sorry... Just wanted to share C:

I was so little when i played this game and i still remember how good it was the art work and especially how they talk like they are saying a poem with every word it rivaled some games that are now in 2016
RIP Tony Jay... It's been commented previously, but the voice acting in this series was spectacular and the story was fantastically complex and compelling... I always loved the way Kain progresses from being a villain to being more and more heroic the more is learnt of him... Some of the most unique and interesting characters ever created :)
I love thumbing through the fragments of story, bouncing between videos to fill the gaps in. This saves much time and effort when that old nostalgia hits. Many thanks are due.
Funny thing is I thought it wouldn't be that fun just looking at the cutscenes but it turns out you can pretty much get all the main story by just watching these and still comprehend it nicely.

The series ended with 'Defiance' which was made by the original team that made the other LoK games (other than BO2). Defiance is the last stage of the LoK storyline, the place where the meaning of everything that happened thus far is revealed. For now, it will have to suffice. We can only hope that the rumors for a new LoK game are true and if it's done, it will be done by the original team (especialy Amy Henning). Some of those questions are answered in Blood Omen 2. Vorador was somehow resurrected by Janos before Raziel returned to him from the Spirit Forge. Vorador then creates a new generation of vampires, which the younger Kain makes into his army. The Hylden go into hiding, with the one possessing Janos reforming the Sarafan, becoming the Sarafan Lord. The Elder God is not seen nor heard, and the Pillars are beyond repair as the Hylden created a gateway from the demon realm to Nosgoth.
The same can be said for me, and not only English but French as well, Soul Reaver 2 will always remain a special game for me. And i wish they will remake it or something that would be awesome with todays graphics.
I have been playing this game for a long time and The end of LOK Defiance was amazing. There were so many twist in this series and this one was no different. SPOILER ALERT : in the end when Kain is left alone looking over Nosgath and he thanks Raziel for his sacrifice and he says that there is some Hope for the future. It showed that Kain is still good and he will choose his own destiny. Raziels still my favorite character though.
They were actually going to create TWO new games. The first was started then scrapped because someone leaked it, then they started on the second and guess what-you go it leaked again.
I would love a sequel too and I must say, unreal engine 4 seems fit for it but the problem is they know they cannot make another one at this quality . The atmosphere in this surpasses absolutely everything else, It has that something that now is missing ,this is what gaming was sometime and what old time gamers are craving for but I fear to no avail .The difference then was that people put so much passion and love in what they created and you can see it from a distance. Now almost everything is money oriented.
They have made the Game Nosgoth though not quite the same but team based game full of vampires and hunters and it sticks to the story a bit grand time to play
Yes. Sadly, Tony Jay passed away in 06. I remember reading about it back then and immediately thought about the LOK series (and Megabyte). However, if there is a remake I would hope whomever to cast for the game to consider Michael Gambon. He has a similar voice to Mr. Jay and is a fine actor.

I think its really interesting how the original Soul Reaver plot was supposed to end in the first game (there were even assets for more elemental reavers and temples and stuff already made), but they realized they simple couldnt fit all of it into the PSX disc and didnt have time to simply add another discs worth of content, so they cliffhangar'd it and revamped the whole of the plot for Soul Reaver 2 and made it impossibly labrynthine and convoluted and great

The Hylden Lord hijacked Mortanius the Necromancer to murder the Balance Guardian Ariel; Ariel was the leader of the Circle and was the most beautiful woman; her lover Nupraptor found her dead body on the ground; and with a raging manifestation, sent a thought-bomb which infected the Circle, making them mad and psychotic. This prompted the creation of the Dark Eden land.
Blood Omen 2 is a direct consequence of the paradox created in Soul Reaver 2 which Kain hinders the complete assimilation of Raziel's essence into the Soul Reaver blade. near the end of the game, after Raziel kills himself. And much of the contradiction rise in Blood Omen 2 like the apparent appearance of Vorador who died officially in Blood Omen 1, um, Janos Audron in a possessed-state, this connects to the Hylden Lord finally possessing his ancient enemy after the Pillars collapse in the game.
Yet I suspect this is not the final installment of the series, nor is its finality of sorts. The defeat of The Elder God was only to quell his agenda of feeding on souls and sapping the innocence of Nosgoth. Kain must engage the the "Hylden" once and for all, since it was their machinations that inspired the demise of the Pillar Guardians, the collapse of the Pillars and orchestrating much of the behind the scenes events, acting through supplicants, and the damnation of Nosgoth as a whole.
Loved this game series, but one thing i always thought was silly, was that friggin everybody could teleport, yet someone managed to get themselves killed, as if unable to escape any fight in which they were outmanned x)
Why do I feel that Kain is genuinely concerned for Raziel's safety during the first act and that is what drives him to chase after Mobius to get answers?

BO2 takes place 400 Years before Soul Reaver 1, and 50years after BO1. But in game launch order, its Bo1, SR1,BO2,SR2(or is it SR1,2 and then BO?..),Defiance.
How strong must one be to resist to comply even against one's one hunger; but how strong must one be to pretend to submit, to despise one's own hunger, and rise above given the slightest opportunity for freedom? People like the Elder God are truly disgusting.
Not gonna lie, if your really wanting people of a new generation to understand this series, as well as give the older generation new perspective, give the first, original legacy of kain a modern upgrade, not a remake. Like exactly beat for beat but with soul reaver style gameplay and graphics for fresh, vampire kain. Then give the rest of the games an hd polishing, that way new attention on the series can encourage, hopefully, a proper sequel.
someone help figure somethon out: in ssoulreaver 2 raziel left janos audrons retreat after his death. janos was buried in his own retreat, so how is it that vorador managed to get janos's body?
Then, make Blood Omen and Soul Reaver playable on Vita, and finally work on releasing a new game w/ the same VA from the series since it was the storytelling and the perfect VA that made this game.

Fans of this series are so fucking classy. Shout outs to anyone who found S.R.1 on a PS magazine demo disc like I did as a kid. As much as I want more, honestly I would be more upset to see a shitty sequel.

the ending left so many questions ,what happened to the elder god,does raziel remain in the sword indefinetly,what about the hylden and the pillars,nosgoths outcome and the vampire race

Not gonna lie, if your really wanting people of a new generation to understand this series, as well as give the older generation new perspective, give the first, original legacy of kain a modern upgrade, not a remake. Like exactly beat for beat but with soul reaver style gameplay and graphics for fresh, vampire kain. Then give the rest of the games an hd polishing, that way new attention on the series can encourage, hopefully, a proper sequel.
someone help figure somethon out: in ssoulreaver 2 raziel left janos audrons retreat after his death. janos was buried in his own retreat, so how is it that vorador managed to get janos's body?
Then, make Blood Omen and Soul Reaver playable on Vita, and finally work on releasing a new game w/ the same VA from the series since it was the storytelling and the perfect VA that made this game.

I heard they making a reboot of this series. I hope there will be a chance that they let the original voice actors. I loved them all. I sorry that the voice ovner of the Elder God is dead...
The Elder God is more patient in here than in SR2.
