"I am not your enemy nor your destroyer, I am as before your right hand... your sword..." Raziel say that line so full of nostalgia that it hurts so much, but in the end he embraced his fate because at last he knew the truth he always looked for ;_;
So basically... The edge of the coin that Kain hoped for, was for him and Raziel to be in the same place in the same time, which was tremendous considering the amount of time travel and deceit they were subject to. As a consequence, Mobius dies permanently, the Redeemer and the Destroyer become one, and the Elder God is exposed.
the edge coin is probably a metaphor for a 3rd end no1 expects because its almost impossible, its not that he aims for a time and place but struggle and doesnt quit until an oportunity arises, he keeps "fliping the coin" until he gets his disired outcome, the edge.
Well you could see it that way. I think it's more that Kain used the time streamer device to look into the myriad future possibilities that could occur for him to stay alive, preserve balance, and keep the vampires species alive. He looked into the future and because of Raziel's remaking, his free will the future is cloudy but observable. I like to think he saw millions upon millions of possible futures and there was only a single one in which he got what he wanted. A one in a million shot. And there would be no redos. No second chances. His throw would begin when he threw Raziel into the abyss. And so he took it. Look again at the opening of Soul Reaver. Look at Kain's face. To quote Kain himself on another moment of destiny "You cannot comprehend the magnitude, the rapture and the tragedy of this moment." Kain is filled with conflict but orders Raziel thrown into the abyss. That was the moment he threw his coin. His one in a million shot to get it right. To change destiny. To turn the tables upon the hustlers who had cheated him and do a little cheating of his own. It's a gamble because Raziel is the being with free will. He is the soul reaver and carries the soul reaver. A walking paradox of two incarnations of the same entity meeting in time and space together. And this meant that Kain could never see what Raziel would do. Raziel might have toppled Kain's chance. Might have ruined Kain's throw and tipped the scales over. The irony is that many people see Kain and Raziel's battle in the cathedral with sorrow and think that if Kain had just talked to Raz they might have come to an understanding. Yet this is something that needed to happen. If Raziel hadn't ripped The Heart of Darkness from Kain Moebius would have been able to subdue Kain at the end. Kain would not have been able to kill Moebius. Raziel would not have purified Moebius' soul and had the epiphany he required to realize he needed to enter the blade in order to arm Kain properly for the final conflict. And where do we go from here? Flip the coin.
@@HiViH Ah yes... the inevitability of fate as the wheel of time turns once more. The visage of this magnificent interwoven story forms the fulcrum against which all other tales are to be judged, ensuring that they are forever found... wanting. Utter futility weighs heavily upon my soul, as any hope of its continuation slowly fades into a dark oblivion of impossibility. Are we all just puppets of fate, doomed to repeat this sickening pattern into infinity?
The death of Mobius is so epic to me. The ass finally sees who and what he was worshiping as he finally dies. The pure terror in his voice emphasis his horror.
Main theme here is that there is never a "true" evil. Just people lying and using each other and that power corrupts you and steals away what makes you a good person. The hylden started off as innocent, but years of banishment and war mad them insane. Vampires had good intentions but were used by their god. They hunted humans but it was part of a curse. Sarafin hunted vampires but their self righteousness led them to commit many acts of genocide and brutality. The story is very human and shows the extremes of human nature and how no one just wakes up and decides to be evil. its a process, but it slowly takes hold of you.
While I mostly agree, if anyone is the true evil or main antagonist of it all...it's the Elder God. While you could what he was doing was simply to maintain his survival, he is the grand manipulator who ( whether he truly believed he was a deity or simply an ancient, lying parasite that grew and evolved as it latched itself to the Wheel of Fate ) spurred these events to happen in the first place. But as it happens, every lie ( even those spun by an eternal being) eventually unfolds and breaks. The Elder God hoped Raziel would become th crux of his will and vengeance...instead, Raziel chose to give up himself to become the false deity's bane.
The Gentlesaurian Velocidapper I think the true "evil" of this story, if there is one, in my opinion it's blind obedience, like in even our world, most gruesome and terrible acts have come, in most cases, from blind obedience and the lack of free will, which i also think is one of the main themes of this awesome history.
"And I'm beginning to think the vampires comitted suicide only to escape your voice" OWNED!!! And the look on Kain's face when he realizes he has Moebius at his mercy. "Is there a crack in your omnission after all Moebius? You're slipping badly..."
After all I think that this IS and always will be the BEST videogame series out there!!! So much skill and professionality in design and storytelling will yet have to wait for someone surpassing it!!!
Imagine the new level of power kain was comprehending toward the end. He saw the origin of the voice his people had never seen with Raziel’s sacrifice to the blade. One could speculate that with Raziel’s heightened power, combined with the reaver sword’s enhancements, Kain attained spiritual awareness, and with that would have been able to explore the side of nosgoth seen through Raziel’s eyes.
Here's the thing, and I apologise if I've got the timeline wrong. Kain refused the sacrifice: Bad End, timeline goes to 'Nozgoth decaying'. Kain raises Raziel and the others, and during the thousand years of his rule, runs around using the now-unmanned timestreaming devices to duck and dodge through time, trying to find a way to 'cheat destiny' and unearths the Hylden Plot and realises that he is a corrupted guardian, and all other guardians born will share his corruption. He also uncovers the secret of the original Vampire race and when Raziel comes before him, evolved before Kain and bearing wings, Kain realises that the world is trying to right itself, but is still inherently corrupted, not realising that the Elder God is both the source of all life and the very corruption strangling it. Then we have the Soul Reaver series, then Legacy of Kain: Defiance. Kain is now pure and fully able to assume his role of Balance Guardian, and NOW, all other Guardians born will also be purified of the corruption ... except he's still in the past, and his past self is not only corrupted, but on the warpath to assembling his original Empire. He's screwed. The only way to ensure the other Guardians can be born is to kill his past self to remove that 'corruption' that will infect them in turn. Which means he'd be creating an unresolveable Temporal Paradox, in addition to killing himself, and in that case, the Timestream simply ejects the reasons for the Paradox in the first place, and the Elder God wins. Then we get to Blood Omen 2, which follows 'Original' Kain as he creates his empire, and explains where Janos Audren got to and the Hylden that were corrupting the Circle in the first place. So, horrifically, 'Purified' Kain has to wait a thousand years and watch as his past self blunders about, and knowing HE CAN'T MEET HIS PAST SELF WITHOUT CAUSING A PARADOX AND BEING WIPED OUT, and also somehow gather the new Guardians to him, keep them from dying of old age and/or turning them into Vampires who will then be as corrupted as his past self is and keep them in some form of stasis until the events of Defiance happens and then they can also be 'cleansed' of the Corruption from the Elder God. Effectively Purified Kain has to dodge his past self, dodge the Hyldren, keep the 'Purified' Soul Reaver from getting lost or stolen and somehow gather up the New Guardians and whisk them into the future and away from his former self to get his plan to work. And that's assuming that the Elder God doesn't try to take Kain down by proxy again ...
Pretty good for the most part. You have forgotten that a few of the writers confirmed in an interview that the events of blood omen 2 did not happen in the timeline until the end of soul reaver 2 when Kain pulled the soul reaver out of raziel extending his life. This created an alternate timeline where the strongest Hylden, including the Sarafan Lord, were able to escape the demon realm and established the Hylden city. Which is why it was released after soul reaver 2. From blood omen 1, soul reaver 1 and soul reaver 2, Kain did not know about the hylden although Kaib and Raziel suspected an unknown force was vying to control certain events. They did not know for what outcome until it was took late.
Yeah, haters gave Tomb Raider a bad rep. However, this game would do incredibly well. Even if they simply retextured everything similar to Halo Anniversary. I would love to see an entire reboot, but even something small like that would be awesome! More people need to learn about this game. It is responsible for more than people realize.
Imagine if he really couldn't raise Janos just because he didn't have the medical expertise needed to replace an organ. Raziel would have to go on a whole new quest to become a vampire surgeon.
2:52 - Well...I'm an immortal vampire...I could conceivably just wait and use the thousands of years to make sure all my cards are in a row and set a trap for Raziel in case he tries to kill me at Avernus.
I think Raziel is the Hylden's Champion, but then again the Hylden were enemies of the Elder God too. Perhaps Raziel and the Soul Reaver were prophesised to be allied with the Vampire's Champion (Kain) to destroy the Elder God. With the Elder God dead then everyone would have free will and be unchained from the Wheel of Fate. I think that's why the Elder God and Moebius (his servant) want Raziel to kill Kain. Raziel is the only one who can kill him. With the Vampire Champion dead then the Elder God would have won because the Vampires (who are immortal) would be extinct. Maybe that's what we would have learned in The Dark Prophecy. I remember seeing screenshots of the Hylden City.
You are half right, about who Raziel is. Raziel is actually both the Hylden Champion and the Ancient Champion. He is destined to free the Hylden, then destroy them.
Yup. Raziel is both the Hylden and the Vampire champion. Only Vorador knew this, but even he didn't foresee that it Raziel would fulfill both roles at the same time. Mortanius believed the Scion and the Vampire champion to be one in the same, but he was incorrect as well. Moebius was so adamant that his master controlled fate itself that he didn't care which one Raziel was. The Elder God is not destroyed yet, but the stage has been set for Kain to turn the table on the dealer of his rigged hand. The only shame is that we may never know what happens next, but at the same time it's good to end a story about fate and causality on a note where anything is possible (which is a million times better than a world where the outcome is always decided beforehand).
From Wikipedia's article on The Legacy of Kain: "In October 2015, Crystal Dynamics' senior designer, Michael Brinker, revealed there was "a 50/50 chance" of a Legacy of Kain 6 single player game coming out during the Xbox One/PlayStation 4 generation." Spread the news, put pressure on the game developers, because there might still be hope.
They were both the champions of the prophecies, but when Kain was looking at the murals and saw each hero putting their sword through the other, he thought it meant two possible outcomes. If you notice, first Raziel stabbed Kain when he took the Heart of Darkness, then Kain stabbed Raziel at the end and Raziel became the Soul Reaver. They are still the saviors at the end, but Raziel is in a different form and they're actually not enemies, but two champions together.
square/crystal dynamics needs to finish this series leaving off on a cliff hanger and then saying "sorry but were not finishing this series" is just plain wrong
there has never been, and there never will be a better game with better dialogue, the way the sentences are constructed and the mastery of the english language of the writers makes this game series a truly phenomenal story.
I salute Raziel, and I salute the author of this story, really great narrate, nice plot twist, so Kain was never the enemy nor did he want to kill Raziel in the first place, only IF Kain shared his knowledge with Raziel would they have had a better ending. still Raziel was a great servant, and he was really loyal. great story! really great!
Kain could not risk voicing his plan to Raziel. He had no idea the part Raziel was to play, only that he WAS to play a part. This is how I understand it. Kain "Given the choice whether to rule a corrupt and failing empire of to challenge the fates for another throw, a better throw against one's destiny; what was a king to do?" Young Kain at the end of Blood Omen chooses not to kill himself. He does not want to see the end of the vampires. He wishes instead to make his species the rulers of the land. He chooses to live and damn the consequences. In a sense of irony and blasphemy he raises his vampire sons from the bodies of Sarafan and founds his vampire empire. Over the next thousand years Kain finds the time streaming device and learns how to use it. Learns how to look into the future. In the futures he sees he sees himself, older, transformed and being followed by a blue vampire wraith that was once his first born son. He sees he is to execute Raziel after he gains wings and this will somehow aid him i his bid to restore his destiny and unmake the manipulations of Moebius. But he cannot see all of what Raziel will do. Raziel possesses free will because he carries the Soul Reaver and is the Soul Reaver itself. Two incarnations of the blade in one place in time and space. He is a walking paradox. Kain waits. And on he day Raziel presents himself to Kain to show his wings Kain realizes the time has arrived. He must sacrifice everything for the slim possibility of a chance to reclaim his destiny as Balance Guardian and return the Pillars to vampire control. He must surrender Raziel and allow all of his vampire sons to die. He must sacrifice his entire empire on the gamble that he can reclaim his destiny but there are no guarantees. Raziel could redeem the world or destroy it. Kain's actions could restore Nozgoth or wipe it out completely. So he just has to close his eyes and gamble. "But does one ever truly have a choice? One can only match; move by move, the machinations of Fate. And thus defy the tyrannous stars." Because Raziel's moves were hidden to him, because Raziel possessed true free will he had the potential to destroy everything if he let anything slip. Raziel was on both sides of the battle, if Kain told him everything he would be revealing his hand to the enemy. He had to be careful and cautious. He had to speak carefully around Raziel. If he pushed to hard Raziel would reject him, just like he did at Avernus. If he did nothing then Raziel would fall back and act on rage and vengeance. Kain needed to subtly manipulate Raziel carefully. If he didn't there would be no telling what could happen. And I also suspect that Kain didn't tell him because he wanted to see if Raziel would at all come to trust him again. If you trust someone you don't ask questions of their plan and waste time. You just act and trust that they know what they are doing. Kain may have wanted to see if his first born son and beloved best friend would still listen and trust what he has to say.
when you play soul reaver 1 for the first time you'll say: Kain is a bastard! and must be killed! when you play soul reaver 2 for the first time you'll say: so Raziel is not only a vampire, but as well an unholy one! and Kain is still a bastard. and when you play this game and watch its ending you won't say anything at all you'll mere give a salute for the plot twist, and conclusion
I have to thank u for making this video and sharing with public! Ive finally understood the complicated story which was shattered through the series. Circle is completed;) I hope Crystal Dynamics will come back in new sequel or prequel of Legacy of Kain series and not abandon this amazing franchise. Once again big thumbs up for great story, twists and folks in Crystal Dynamics, thank u!
If you see entire context you will know why he don't want him dead. Kain was 100% sure tha Raziel is the one that will break the Cricle and even if it took his death (like he LET Raziel take Soul Reaver and gamble if he kills him). Kain used Mobius inventions and saw that Raziel needed to become wraith to forge path to better future. For Kain, Raziel death was like losing his son and only hope. Yes in Soul Reaver 1 he KNEW Raziel will return and try to kill him ( i mean he expected for Soul Reaver to brake on him). So yeah he kinda would be sad about that.
Raziel, guided by knowledge and reason, has discovered his role throughout his journey, and with an empathy and understanding he never had in his human days, he sacrifices himself for a good cause. How important it is not to be deceived by false beliefs and manipulations, to maintain true integrity despite many betrayals.
"You have won the battle, but the war between your kind and my mine will never end,our banishment in the demon dimension also ensures our immortality, one day we shall return." ...is what the Hylden General said before he was about to get executed by Kai.The reaver cannot consume immortal beings, when a Hylden dies in Nosgoth his soul is just transfered to the demon dimension.
The scene where Kain and Raziel started to become one i cried alittle :D Also has anyone noticed that Jeepers Creepers and KAIN look almost exactly the same? Also Jeepers Creepers is also a type of Vampire. But he consumes the whole body not just the blood.
Here's some stuff fans might find interesting. Raziel was influenced by the Hylden, and it is implied in this game that the final boss Kain fights in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain Mortanius was under the influence of these dark forces too. That's why moments earlier Mortanius was struggling with the entity before departing to do his final battle with Kain(The younger vampire) at the pillars. Now here's an explanation as to why it happened. Turel is from the distant future that Raziel and Kain arrived in Nosgoth's past from. He was the last vampire alive in that derelict future. Janos Audron states, that as long as a single vampire is left alive that the pillars will not fall. After Kain tricked Raziel into giving chase after him into Nosgoth's past in Soul Reaver 2 Turel was the last elder vampire remaining in Nosgoth's wasteland like future. He likely devoured any remaining vampires if they didn't kill themselves... It's very likely he was the last standing vampire in that era. And so when Mortanius performed the ritual to summon Hash'Ak'Gik unwittingly summoning Turel as part of the prophecy. In that instant, the future Nosgoth's pillars must reacted to Turel disappearing from the realm. That moment is what allowed the Hylden to piggyback on Turel into Nosgoth's past, as he must have been possessed by the dark forces at the time of the summoning, when the future pillars would have fallen, thus no longer sealing The Hylden race away... Raziel would encounter Turel, the last of his vampire brethren, the one who eluded him in Soul Reaver 1 He would finally reap the soul of the last remaining survivor of the era they both came from. Raziel did 'not' know that Turel was possessed by the Hylden. Upon consuming Turel's soul, Raziel must've also therefore unwittingly let the Hylden possess him partially, as you can see Turel's soul is much like the souls of his brothers, but there's also that green mist hidden in the soul. That's why Raziel was overtaken by madness that slowly drove him to go for the kill against Kain, fueling his paranoia.
Holy shit. Head hurts trying to put all this together. Is it my own stupidity or are there many things still unexplained in the series (like for instance how the corrupted pillars caused the world to turn into a wasteland? Wouldn't that have just released the Hylden and ignited another Vamp vs Hylden war?, or how the purified Reaver allowed Kain to see the Elder God? Why would that allow him to see it?). The making of Nosgoth (the new multiplayer game, which is actually really fun) gives me hope that the series could maybe one day be rebooted. Especially if Nosgoth becomes popular and makes them some money. Then maybe some of these damn questions could be answered and fleshed out.
Well theres a couple of reasons. One is outright confirmed but in a vague way by Amy Hennig the writer and director of the series. She said that Kain's nature as the Scion of Balance allowed him to survive. Second point is that Kain points out in game that the Soul Reaver is the only thing capable of killing him and Raziel didn't strike him down with the Soul Reaver. He ripped the heart out of Kain's chest. Third is that Mortanius' magic gave birth to Kain and that magic was still in effect.
So I guess had they made a sequel Kains goal would to be to go give eyes to the blind humans of the era he is now in, to somehow bring the Hilden to heel, and have the world fight the elder god. But he'd also have to devise a way to purify souls without the elder gods influence. Or he could Use Moebius staff and/or time chamber to travel back to the very beginning and reveal to the vampires the truth of the god they served, before any of this calamity could happen. Perhaps going so far back as to stop the exile of the Hilden, and create a world where they both had a place. Or something else, I dunno ^^
Also while old Kain is uncorrupted young Kain still is and the pillars are still broken so Kain really didn't stop anything he just cleared the board and has to start building from scratch, I am also considering the possibility that the uncorruption of his soul might translate to all versions of Kain so that might really reset the time stream but that will also make his enemies work even harder at bringing him down the Hylden are still lose and Elder God isn't really dead so he will come back.
Kain's unlife was direct. It came straight from Janos' heart being stuffed into him (though he does change a little bit - note the difference between BO2 and SR1). Vorador (the green one lol) was turned by Janos himself, so his lineage was even more pure (he hasn't changed one bit). Raziel and his brothers were granted unlife from Kain, whos unlife was granted by Janos' heart, so their lineage is impure. If Raziel hadn't been thrown into the abyss, he'd probably be as disfigured as his brothers.
Kain can only see as far as he is in the timeline so we cannot know for sure that the Hylden are trapped he just hasn't come into conflict with them again. And as we've seen they are especially good at wiggling out of imprisonment, and the place in which most are trapped at the moment is of their creation so back door will have been made and utilized
In the ending of SR2 you see Kain clearly shocked with the new events that have happened due to the time paradox he created. Also in BO2 young Kain was involved not the older Kain,so you can easily assume that the Mass was just a part of their plan . Also, Kain isn't Raziel ; he knew about the Wheel of Fate even before Raziel gave him the purified reaver. He knows a big deal about what's happening on Nosgoth, the only factor that he couldn't notice before aquiring purified reaver was the EG.
Their final move is not the mass because when Kain (in the ending of SR2) was overwhelmed by the new events, one of them was the Hylden's invasion. Their final move has not yet made, even the mass was a part of their plan.
Raziel was supposed to kill Turel and Kain in SR in the original ending but was remove from the game. After Raziel and Kain left that era he was left alone and further devolved into that monster.InBO and Defiance it mentioned that Azimuth the guardian of Pillar of Dimension use her powers and Moebius time streaming device to bring monster and demons from other dimensions and times and one of them was Turel. As he was a superior host than Mortanius he was chosed as a long term vessel for Hashagik
"This is how...the soul reaver pure of all corruption, this is what it is for, this is what I am for, the two become one, both soul reavers together, and the scion of balance is healed, and I, am not your enemy, not, your destroyer, I am as before, your right hand...your sword. And now you will see your true enemy."
Hey so I played Blood Omen 2 as a child and I believe this game because Raziel ws embedded in my memory but could you tell me if they are one if the same and in which order I should play these series to get the full entirety of the story.
Always wondered what Elder God relation to Hylden was. He wanted vampires eliminated as they posed a threat to wheel of fate, souls going through him, but wasn't he at all worried about the possibility of his machinations towards Kain and Raziel were aiding Hyldens? As far as I remember, war between vampires and Hylden was caused by refusal of the latter to worship vampire's god, so wouldn't Hylden victory mean that they would try to go after Elder God next?
Not if they didn't know that he existed. Remember only Raziel ever saw the squid for what it was and had his eyes opened to see that it was the cause of all the suffering in Nozgoth. By being immortal, and thus outside of the wheel, the squid couldn't feed on the life of the vampires and so wanted them killed to feed on them. The hylden were caught in the wheel only by being alive, and they would pass on to be consumed and then thrown back out when drained. The vampires though, if they were too populous, could not only cause a massive drop in human population, thus limiting the number of souls going through the wheel, but also trap souls outside of the squid's reach as they never passed on. Essentially he would starve regardless of the awareness of the awareness of those alive to what he did.
@@DemitriVladMaximov Probably why he employed Raziel in first Soul Reaver, since what you described literally happened in Kain's empire. Though I wonder if it's really that simple with Hyldens. I wonder if their refusal to vampire's god wasn't caused by the fact they were somehow able to either see his squidness, or at least suspect his real nature. I also wonder if they really fit in in the whole wheel of souls thing. I mean initially yes, but after their banishment they were only able to inhabit beings in Nosgoth through kind of possession. I do wonder if their souls weren't somehow bound to that dimension where they were banished.
@@AdamMichalMarkowski That was supose to be anwsered in 6th game. One of Devs ideas that Elder god wanted to kill all vampires and Then travel to where Hyldens were send, so he also could feast on their Souls. But sales of ths game tanked so Square pulled the plug after 3 months of development. Then director left company so basicly game was ice boxed. Not to meniton in 2006 Voice of the Elder god died. It would be nice if Square relised name and just let Amy Hennig to reboot it. For those who don't know she wrote Every Legacy of Kain game exept blood omen 2. No wonder everyone call it black sheep
Our best guess is probably that Kain at some point after BO1 found Vorador's corpse and head and somehow managed to revive him (akin to how Raziel revived Janos), but yeah, there are a lot of loose ends when it comes to LoK. The biggest one is probably how Kain is supposed to restore balance after Defiance, because he'll need to reclaim the pillars for the vampires despite them all having been wiped out...
In order to not cause any misunderstanding,i don't consider the Elder God a pest,he was the one that transformed the Hylden to immortal totalitarianist entities who want to destroy every living being (especially the vampires) and become the only living race on Nosgoth. And he's also the closest being to C'Thulu in LoK universe. I just consider the Hylden a far more greater threat than the EG (reason on my previous replies).
BO2 is the result of the time shuffling in SR2.While this Kain hasn't technicly experienced it,he did get all the memories at the end of SR2 when he said to Raziel that "Janos must stay dead" the act that sparked BO2.As of yet we don't know how the SR era was changed after BO2 but most likely it occurred unchanged. What is really interesting is if SR era is changed by the end of Defiance by either completly reset or instead of continually degrading the pillars start summoning new guardians.
i would recommend (Purely because you get some additional content, and its cheap along with the other lok titles excluding blood omen) GOG, and you *DONT* need anyother programs open to run it (which is how steam runs for me which is a bugger because it uses alot of my RAM... with only 2 gig of RAM, its very noticable) Although im not going to convince anyone otherwise, i personally love GOG. Others love Steam...
This series cemented my atheism and free-thinker theosophy. The lines, the story, the epicness, and the philosophy that centered on the question "why do we exist?" sealed the deal for me. It made me question the adage that we should be here to get an eternal reward when we die from a being who judges us "the way we poop", per se. I wish they haven't cancelled Dead Sun... ;_;
No,the Hylden originally lived extremely long lives, but they refused to worship the EG (they knew the whole deal about the Wheel of Fate),so the EG provoked the vampires into attacking the Hylden and after some time they banished them into the demon dimension, thus making them immortal this way. And then, the Hylden cursed the vampires with immortality and bloodlust. I never called the Hylden evil, even their plan to use the mass was used to "starve" the EG to death.
Defiance is the prelude to Blood Omen 2. Possessed Janos was flown away by the hylden general, he got used by the hylden for his blood to power The Device and then he got thrown into the demon realm by the hylden general when he intervened in the fight between him and Kain. BO2 is the newest timeline, so he's still trapped in there as far as the series has shown.
From what I read online, the plan for a new game would have been following directly after Blood Omen 2, but no word yet as to whether or not the developers will really do it, or any sequels.
Actually BO2 starts as a consequence of SR2 shenanigans. We still don't know how exactly the world has changed after the Defiance edge of the coin gamble.Raziel became the SR as he should but old Kain is uncorrupted yes but we don't know if this will only affect his original place in time post SR1 era where he belongs or change this post BO1 era as well. The pillars might start to summon new guardians in the SR1 era and Kain needs to find, teach and vampirize them or everything is for nothing.
That's not necesary because his younger self will beat him in BO2 and going to a much earlier era and stop the Unspoken is yet risky as it was him that murdered Ariel and in turn established Kain as the Balance guardian although that might not change Kain's Scion of Balance nature as SofB and BG are 2 different things that Kain managed to fulfill both. And if he reverts the trick Mobius done in BO1 were Kain is the last vampire he might lose the SofB status as well.
i know that the spirt reaver was used to purify Kain i just meant that i hope that Raziel can get out eventually after the 2000ish years spent within the blade, while the soul reaver must be returned to the past and go through all the events Kain may retain the wraith blade which is Raziel's soul after all the complex time travel plus i can see Kain wanting to save Raziel.
Well No wonder why that game didn't really fit. Amy Hennig didn't wrote it. She needed to kinda fit it in the timeline. At least she did better job that J J Abrams.
I find it funny how this story is similar to The Legend Of Zelda, somehow. In both series, you need to forge the sword with elements until you get the pure weapon that can harm the main enemy. Master Sword in Zelda has also created several timelines, and Link is still the reason why the ancient evil even appeared, but he is also the champion of Hylians and the destroyer of that evil.
I wonder how changed Tyrel found itself before Kain started his empire and even raised the Serafin brothers (before the pillars were broken). And he was reffering to Raziel killing his brothers (I would assume turned, and changed in time). So it's a millenniums time shift. The only reasonable answer, in my eyes, would be the octopus-fella toke Tyrel back in time, to keep as a pet
Every time I play this game and get to that final room. Where Mobius meets his fate at the hands of Kain- I grin, and when he stands up a spirit with a very angry Raziel behind him.. That grin just gets bigger and bigger.
The way I see it this version of Kain is purified but he's from the SR era and I that wasteland hasn't changed,so he must either find a way to purify his much younger version BO1 or 2 era or maybe just maybe now with the coruption in the circle healed, the pillars might start somoning new guardians, so Kain has to find them in SR era and vampiraze them and maybe restore the pillars, also he has to find a way to make this time line permanent so EG or Moebius can't rewritten it.
i remember this game, played since Bloodomen 1, the ending to this game was probably the saddest (and best) ending i have ever seen in any game. i hope they don't mess it up with the reboot
Well considering that wraith Raziel appeared long before BO and killed human Raziel it is possible that Kain looking in the time portals learned that that wraith was a future version Raziel and when he saw vampire Raziel develop wings he knew it was the time to set destiny in motion and besides when wraith Raziel emerged in SR era Kain wasn't at all surprised upon his appearence, he knew all too well how Raziel was going to look
Yes yes thats what I mean too. its only so hard to describe.. maybe like this: The act of blood omen 2 is after defiance (cause it was created by this, janos is a slave of the hylden, etc.), but the characters are before defiance (younger kain, raziel not even born, etc) .. but I didnt get what you mean with two timelines. does it mean, that its like two different storys?
Maybe even up the combat gameplay slightly, give the players more freedom of exploration, extra secrets, easter eggs, little goodies (maybe even new monologue/dialogues in extra areas)
Not really, since the pillars are most likely restored the hylden are sealed away once more, thought I would really like to see this game re-relesed, not so much remade, but a graphics update and have the same voice acting, story and gameplay. Defience doesn't even need a remake, it looks nice as it is
or symply TUREL was summoned by Mortanius just after the death of Dumah as an atempt to delay Hyldens return - turning him into their vessel and feeding him with blood so that he would continue to be their prison longer giving him time to create Kain himself...
"And I am beginning to think the vampires committed suicide only to escape your voice." lol never gets old
30:33
i loved his voice
Daamn that was badass
"I am not your enemy nor your destroyer, I am as before your right hand... your sword..."
Raziel say that line so full of nostalgia that it hurts so much,
but in the end he embraced his fate because at last he knew the truth he always looked for ;_;
Not only was it the truth of his destiny, but Raziel chose morality, duty, and righteousness just as he told Kain he would.
Another year, and the time for me to re-watch this again.
You should watch it again

***** And the fact that he got impaled by both Kain and Raziel was awesome too. A fitting comeuppance.
The Gentlesaurian Velocidapper their is not true evil in human beings ..
"The first, bitter taste of that terrible illusion: hope."
The way kain and razel changed each other's environment in defiance was a slept on aspect.
for sure
I cry every time Raziel dies in this game RIP Raziel I always love you in my heart forever
The look on Raziel's face when he sneaks up behind Moebius is so awesome
"And I'm beginning to think the vampires comitted suicide only to escape your voice"
OWNED!!! And the look on Kain's face when he realizes he has Moebius at his mercy. "Is there a crack in your omnission after all Moebius? You're slipping badly..."
42:00 I just love that smug grin on Kain's face when Mobius' Sceptre doesn't affect him anymore
"I always was considered heartless" My favourite line of the game
After all I think that this IS and always will be the BEST videogame series out there!!!
So much skill and professionality in design and storytelling will yet have to wait for someone surpassing it!!!
Imagine the new level of power kain was comprehending toward the end. He saw the origin of the voice his people had never seen with Raziel’s sacrifice to the blade. One could speculate that with Raziel’s heightened power, combined with the reaver sword’s enhancements, Kain attained spiritual awareness, and with that would have been able to explore the side of nosgoth seen through Raziel’s eyes.
He definitely soloes the hylden with that power, but we'll never know
RIP Elder Squid
I bet even hentai tentacles are jealous.
***** Not all of them get to fuck over an entire planet and timeline.
+Vallorn get rekt japanese tentacles :D
Vallorn I know where you got the name elder squid from :3
Here's the thing, and I apologise if I've got the timeline wrong.
Gotta love how manipulative Elder God is towards Kain, and Kain being a good player in same game is distrustful of his motives. Such great writing
24:48 Raziel just doin it surgeon simulator style XD
“I’ll just cram it in there He’ll get better. I’m a doctor!”
Imagine if he really couldn't raise Janos just because he didn't have the medical expertise needed to replace an organ. Raziel would have to go on a whole new quest to become a vampire surgeon.
2:52 - Well...I'm an immortal vampire...I could conceivably just wait and use the thousands of years to make sure all my cards are in a row and set a trap for Raziel in case he tries to kill me at Avernus.
they need to remaster this for PC, ps4, and Xbox one. such a great series.
He is destined to free the Hylden, then destroy them.
gR3ypH0x thus "the redemer and destoryer"
Mulaaks15 At this moment we almost stand before PS5/Xbox: Scarlett. I would prefer remake of SoR: LoK/LoK2
False hope it seems still
"The first, bitter taste of that terrible illusion... Hope."
25:58
"I'm not who you think I am. Nor is this a benevolent act. I brought you back for a reason...Candles, a bed, you, and me...The stage is set."
there has never been, and there never will be a better game with better dialogue, the way the sentences are constructed and the mastery of the english language of the writers makes this game series a truly phenomenal story.
Because whenever he uses the physical reaver it turns on him, remember?
Kain could not risk voicing his plan to Raziel. He had no idea the part Raziel was to play, only that he WAS to play a part.
This is how I understand it.
Kain
"Given the choice whether to rule a corrupt and failing empire of to challenge the fates for another throw, a better throw against one's destiny; what was a king to do?"
Young Kain at the end of Blood Omen chooses not to kill himself.
And thus defy the tyrannous stars."
Because Raziel's moves were hidden to him, because Raziel possessed true free will he had the potential to destroy everything if he let anything slip.
Kain may have wanted to see if his first born son and beloved best friend would still listen and trust what he has to say.
both dumah and turel claim to be greater than kain!! madness
when you play soul reaver 1 for the first time you'll say: Kain is a bastard! and must be killed!
when you play soul reaver 2 for the first time you'll say: so Raziel is not only a vampire, but as well an unholy one! and Kain is still a bastard.
and when you play this game and watch its ending you won't say anything at all you'll mere give a salute for the plot twist, and conclusion
"In the mean time, you'd BEST burrow deep" One of the best lines of the game ever!
Kain bout to make me cry, he's so fucking sad to see raziel die
48:25
I like how Kain completely ignores what the Elder God is saying while contemplating the fate he forced on Raziel.
could it be that give the look on raziel's face at 16:41 suggests that he cares about Kain? And doesn't want to kill him?
Raziel, guided by knowledge and reason, has discovered his role throughout his journey, and with an empathy and understanding he never had in his human days, he sacrifices himself for a good cause. How important it is not to be deceived by false beliefs and manipulations, to maintain true integrity despite many betrayals.
The owners of this franchise owe us a game or 2 to conclude this series
Hp lovecraft, and this reminds me of a GameCube Classic eturnal darkness
Both Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness were created by Dennis Dyak. He didn't have anything to do with Defiance, but he made Blood Omen.
"You have won the battle, but the war between your kind and my mine will never end,our banishment in the demon dimension also ensures our immortality, one day we shall return."
...is what the Hylden General said before he was about to get executed by Kai.The reaver cannot consume immortal beings, when a Hylden dies in Nosgoth his soul is just transfered to the demon dimension.
The scene where Kain and Raziel started to become one i cried alittle :D
Also has anyone noticed that Jeepers Creepers and KAIN look almost exactly the same? Also Jeepers Creepers is also a type of Vampire. But he consumes the whole body not just the blood.
you see that kain wanted janos to be dead so he wont be trapped in the hylden world like we see in blood omen 2
ah yes, a comment that is not years old
267:00 "it seems your destiny is more labyrinthine than i imagined"
"dude you aint got no idea"
After Kain tricked Raziel into giving chase after him into Nosgoth's past in Soul Reaver 2
Turel was the last elder vampire remaining in Nosgoth's wasteland like future.
Raziel would encounter Turel, the last of his vampire brethren, the one who eluded him in Soul Reaver 1
He would finally reap the soul of the last remaining survivor of the era they both came from.
This is too good to be forgotten
Kain can only see as far as he is in the timeline so we cannot know for sure that the Hylden are trapped he just hasn't come into conflict with them again. And as we've seen they are especially good at wiggling out of imprisonment, and the place in which most are trapped at the moment is of their creation so back door will have been made and utilized
Who would have guessed that the last line of the game would fit so well with the chances of a sequel.
that's tough
In the ending of SR2 you see Kain clearly shocked with the new events that have happened due to the time paradox he created.
Also in BO2 young Kain was involved not the older Kain,so you can easily assume that the Mass was just a part of their plan .
Also, Kain isn't Raziel ; he knew about the Wheel of Fate even before Raziel gave him the purified reaver.
He knows a big deal about what's happening on Nosgoth, the only factor that he couldn't notice before aquiring purified reaver was the EG.
"I always was considered heartless", as said by Kain when he confronts Moebius, is the closest thing to an explanation that is known..
So did Kain have a heart beat on the wrong side of his chest for over a thousand years and no one noticed?
Thanks for posting this, I love(d) these games, it was an awesome trip down memory lane.
God damnit I just spent like 4 hours watching all these and I can't stop :( lol
R.I.P. Raziel, may you find peace...
Right. So.. When are we getting a remake done with more scenes and with todays tech, viewed and produced as standard 3-d animated film.
Never.
30:45 Raziel did not just go there
Jac Sanchez oh he did
I remember bring creeped out by Turel, I had no idea he would be in that pit at the time...
Man, I wish I still had the game.
Also, RIP Raziel. :(
You can buy it from steam :)
kassra niavarani Ok, I'll try that. Thanks :)
i would recommend (Purely because you get some additional content, and its cheap along with the other lok titles excluding blood omen) GOG, and you *DONT* need anyother programs open to run it (which is how steam runs for me which is a bugger because it uses alot of my RAM... with only 2 gig of RAM, its very noticable)
Although im not going to convince anyone otherwise, i personally love GOG. Others love Steam...
Raziel isn’t dead ..he just can no longer will himself a physical form ..the sword is his physical form now ..sword is him he is the sword
Im just supriced Kain not meet Janos possesed by Hylden in citadel. That could be interesting they could make this fight after he defeat Old God.
i just love the fact that the creators of lok made kain after the appearance of kefka palazzo and the personality of revolver ocelot
This series cemented my atheism and free-thinker theosophy. The lines, the story, the epicness, and the philosophy that centered on the question "why do we exist?" sealed the deal for me. It made me question the adage that we should be here to get an eternal reward when we die from a being who judges us "the way we poop", per se.
I wish they haven't cancelled Dead Sun... ;_;
BO2 is the newest timeline, so he's still trapped in there as far as the series has shown.
kinda want a loop of turel saying "Hash Ak Qik" over and over
Thank you for this video @GameMuch, the editing must've been a long process
From what I read online, the plan for a new game would have been following directly after Blood Omen 2, but no word yet as to whether or not the developers will really do it, or any sequels.
My GOD the story writing and philosophy behind this game is and always will be EPIC... is there a book I can read similar to this?
Actually BO2 starts as a consequence of SR2 shenanigans. We still don't know how exactly the world has changed after the Defiance edge of the coin gamble.Raziel became the SR as he should but old Kain is uncorrupted yes but we don't know if this will only affect his original place in time post SR1 era where he belongs or change this post BO1 era as well. The pillars might start to summon new guardians in the SR1 era and Kain needs to find, teach and vampirize them or everything is for nothing.
Thanks a lot for uploading this, it's worth gokd!
I know this may sound silly but i learnt a lot about the English language and how beautiful it can be from this game.
i know that the spirt reaver was used to purify Kain i just meant that i hope that Raziel can get out eventually after the 2000ish years spent within the blade, while the soul reaver must be returned to the past and go through all the events Kain may retain the wraith blade which is Raziel's soul after all the complex time travel plus i can see Kain wanting to save Raziel.
''I always was considered heartless''
Defiance is sort of meant to help Blood Omen Two find it's place along the story. Vorador would somehow need to be revived to help it work.
The legacy of Kain Series - Truly All Masterpieces, come fourth together to create something far above that.
46:55....the saddest moment of atleast all games i have played...
Defience doesn't even need a remake, it looks nice as it is
The look on Raziel's face when Mortanius leaves... gets me every time.
a better question is how the hell did turel end up being hashagyk? he is referenced in the first bo game and was around before kain was turned
or symply TUREL was summoned by Mortanius just after the death of Dumah as an atempt to delay Hyldens return - turning him into their vessel and feeding him with blood so that he would continue to be their prison longer giving him time to create Kain himself...
