I've had an iPod touch 4th gen since about 2012 (I was 4 and I used that to listen to music, I still remember how I sat in the car jamming my head to Dynamite by Taio Cruz). I still have it but the back is badly scratched (it looks like you gave it to a cat)

I burned that device to hell: lobbies in Brothers in Arms 2 with voice chat, Black Ops Zombies, a lot of music, videos, photos... Since then i've never had an apple device as they really got too expensive for me, but i'm sure i will get an iPhone in the future.

This product exist just so when they do come of age to get a phone it'll be the iPhone. Either way iPhone or iPad the ecosystem grows! The budget iPad and iPod touch don't generate that much revenue on their own, but lifetime revenue from the customers who own them are high because once you are in there is no leaving haha
They are not just for kids!!! I have a 5th gen touch and in need of an upgrade!!! I will never use my phone until maybe one day that they will have 2-4 tb of storage!!! Plus the music chips on the iphone and iPod touch are shit compared to what the older classic iPods had but they discontinued that one!! I have a 5th gen iPod 30gb video from 2005 and it sound miles better but not enough storage!!!! 😭😭😭😭😰

iPod Touch was honestly one of the best decisions Apple ever made. It introduced me to iOS and cemented my desire for an iPhone. I'm sure many others had a similar experience growing up in the 2000s. Great video!

I got an iPod touch in 07 and by 08 I was like “why do I have a phone and an MP3 player in my pocket when I can get an iPod touch with a built in phone (ie the iPhone) instead and have all of it in one package and access to the internet all the time. So less than a year of owning an iPod touch I bought an iPhone 3g and the rest is history.
Another good use case is for android users who don't want to buy an iphone but the majority of their friends have iphones and exclusively communicate via imessage and facetime. One of my friends has a 5th gen touch teathered to hotspot on his galaxy s7 for this purpose

And my friends are super weird about using another messengers (the apple users by the way). So his method works.
Also it is good to use as a bridge to bring people into iphones. After all Apple dont have a begginers phone, I know many people who wanna to try an iphone but consider 700€ for a phone to try it out way to much. So buying an ipod may be the solution for some

Same. However, I can never deal with its atrocious battery life. I know iPhone SE2 ( 2020 ) has the same battery mAh as the iPhone 8 (2017) . Though, tbh; I am much happier with my s10e. Literally, you can backup so many songs from your iTunes library, insert all your songs on a 512GB Micro SD Card, and never have to worry about in need of iCloud Storage along internal storage being full. My s10e is 128GB internal storage, and tbh, I wish Apple would've presented Apple Users the microSD Card feature that most Android phones have for storing photos, videos, music and more. Only downside about my s10e is that App Store is better than Google Play Store; along likely to not receive additional software support ( iPhones receive up to 4-5 years of iPhone iOS support ) . Other than that, thats my perspective .

This is pretty accurate. My iPod Touch was my first introduction to the Apple ecosystem. This led me to buy an iPhone and an iPad later on. I still use my iPod. I love it because I have a large music collection and I want a dedicated device just for music that I can carry around without draining the battery or taking up space on my iPhone. I feel comfortable knowing that I can go on a walk with my iPod and if it happens to get lost or stolen then at least it’s not my phone (which is arguably more important than a music device) that I have to replace.
Nope. They dismissed an entire mp3 player market which ipod was late too. My iriver was smaller and easier to use than those stupid ipods. However, thanks to Apple marketing, most only know Apple mp3 players

I'm one of those people who likes a dedicated player. I have thousands upon thousands of songs I've collected, many of which are rarities that will never exist on Spotify or Apple Music, so I'm glad the option of an iPod is still available to me.
I bought my kid an iPad like 2 years ago and his birthday is coming on june 12, and I have never seen this much loyalty toward a brand before. He had a few android tablets before and generally used to hop to new brands when we bought a new tablet. The same happened with his clothes, and generally all the items, he didn't care about the brand enough to stick to it, but after I bought the iPad , this year he's begging for either and apple watch series 7 or an iPad air or pro, and even said to wait till the new apple launch event this year, rather than buy the iPad or watch straight on his birthday. I think an apple watch will be more useful, because he has gotten into somewhat small accidents before, when both of us were at work, and while they were somewhat small accidents, it's worrying about what could have happened.

The iPod Touch happens to be one of the few Hi-Res audio players in the price range that's got almost universal USB compatibility with car head units just like the Classic. And the built-in DAC on the Touch is actually pretty good quality, with a lot of audiophile reviewers putting it as pretty close to expensive units by Sony, A&K, and Fiio.
I don't know about you, but I can't afford the $$$$ monthly fees charged by mobile phone companies. However, I get most of what I need WITHOUT the "smartphone" part, which I don'tt need. (I have a "pay-as-you-go" cellphone for emergencies which costs $100/year.) The fact that I can use it as a music player is a bonus, and there are useful apps, even if I don't waste time playing games. (Plus, iTunes doesn't have, say, Aidan James, Pure Heart, The Hawaiian Style Band, or Streetlight Cadence in the online store.)
Create an iPod with the form factor of the classic, with streaming capabilities to Apple Music through SIM card and a headphone jack and I think they'll find a niche market to bring bring back the iPod.

I wasn’t interested in the iPhone when it was introduced, but then my employer provided me with an iPod Touch to use as a PDA, which worked really well for my needs at the time. Then I started thinking it would be great if it also could handle phone calls and texting so that I wouldn’t have to carry two devices. Oh right, that’s an iPhone. 🙈

iPods have a cool nostalgia aesthetic which is the best reason I want one. Besides when I was young I wanted an iPod solely for movie viewing on the go when portable DVD players were too expensive, but I never got one of these critters and still don't have one today. I do have its cable though.
What you say makes perfect sense, but I think there's another main reason why Apple decided to sell this new iPod Touch: gaming. They talked about their new gaming service in the last keynote and this would be a great way to sell it, specially to parents. Having to choose between a 300$ Switch or a 199$ iPod Touch, they'll probably go with the Apple product, which also allows music, TH-cam and many other apps. I think it's a pretty smart move.
Could always get them a 3DS or 2DS. Personally, I'm not fond of the current cell phone gaming ecosystem. Basically they all have timers, alternate currencies, loot boxes, and other systems that basically make them feel cookie cutter and often get in the way of playing the game itself. Hey I want to play a game, but ten minutes later it wants me to wait several hours for something to complete. Well okay I guess they don't want me playing the game then, I think I'll just go back to playing on a dedicated gaming device where games don't limit play time. By the way, the Switch does have TH-cam.

And the 3DS is barely gonna get any new games now that Switch is the primary focus for NIntendo. Also, any Nintendo game on 3DS still costs 40$ and you can get iOS games for """free""" or for just few dollars. And that's what parents look at.
As a massive music fan, I love having a dedicated music player. I hate having songs interrupted by texts, calls, emails, and alerts. For someone with a library of 8,000+ songs it's difficult to fit all of that onto a phone without killing space or battery life. I know the day is coming when the iPod will die, and on that day there will be no way to enjoy music by itself any longer on a portable device. I'll simply have to pick and choose certain albums and then be annoyed when they're constantly interrupted by my phone.
You do realize you can make it so that only certain notifications appear righ? Also, there is nothing preventing something like a “don’t disturb mode” to appear so that you can toggle notifications stopping music on and off easily
Let’s be honest, they left the iPod touch in the lineup as a way to introduce kids’ to their products and create a natural grapevine. Thus becoming lifelong consumers once they become teens/adults.
I received my first Apple product on my 16th birthday- it was an iPod Touch. I immediately fell in love with it and used it more for internet browsing and apps than I did for music. This was all the way back in 2010 and I was using this as my primary device whilst using a HTC phone. HTC was great, but Apple’s interface was just far superior and in 2012 I got my first iPhone 4S. 2015, I got the iPhone 6S. 2017 it was the iPhone 7+. 2019 the iPhone 11 and now 2022 the iPhone 13. My primary laptop has been a MacBook- the Air from 2014-2020 and the Pro from 2020- Present. The only gadgets I don’t use of Apple’s are my wireless earphones and other accessories since I feel Samsung does superior products there for better prices. Otherwise, I’m a loyal and dedicated Apple user.
I have a 6th gen iPod that I specifically bought for work a few years ago. I listen to music all during my shifts, so I wanted to have as much music on it as I could for whatever I’m in the mood for. I love it. I also don’t use streaming services. I buy from iTunes, but also my older music is imported from CDs.
I was so mad when the nano was discontinued because there are people out there who live in group homes who are not allowed to have wifi enabled Devices.

When I was 3, I remember playing on my old iPod Touch 1G, and I would follow with the iPod Touch 4G, then the iPad Mini 2 + LTE, to the iPhone 6 Plus, and lastly at the iPhone X. Over time, I also got a Mac and an Apple Watch, and have become accustomed to the Apple ecosystem, all starting from a single device I had as a toddler.
My first Apple product was an iPod Touch (I have an iPhone 7 now and am looking at getting this year's release) My older sister's first Apple product was an iPod Touch My younger sister's first Apple product was an iPod Touch My dad's first-ever Apple Product was an iPod Classic The first Apple product purchased by my mum was my dad's iPod.
I so want a 20th anniversary iPod Classic this year. I doubt Apple will do it, but I really hope they do, I want a dedicated music-only device with that classic click wheel.
I still use my iPod Nano 6th gen every weekday in the car as I commute some 70 kms daily. Just plug it into the car stereo system. Love it. What a pity the Nano has been discontinued. I don't like using my smartphone to play music because of storage and battery issues.
To summarise video: It’s so that people have to buy the iPod Touch if they want an iPod since all other iPods have been discontinued (Nano, Shuffle, Classic), and it draws kids into the Apple ecosystem so they’re more likely to buy iPhones.
I’d honestly say they still make it for parents to give to their kids since you can still use iMessage but can’t run up their data plan. Plus it would get people into the “ecosystem”
I am in charge of the production department in our church. I have an iPod touch set up in 2 locations in our building, one in our main sanctuary and one on our youth group sound system. Both have Apple Music on them and they’re used only to play music for services and other occasions. Both are on Apple docks so they sit upright, and both are plugged in to a smart plug so I can keep a schedule on them so the batteries don’t wear out.
Former iOS developer here. One big reason they still sell well is the developers. We usually try to test our apps on all iOS devices before pushing them to production(App Store). iPod Touch is the most low power iOS hardware out there, so if our app works smoothly on iPod Touch, it will surely work better on the iPhones 99% of the time.
It’s 2021 & as a grown man, I still want the iPod just for music. Listening to music on an iPhone is not fun. Besides, I’ve got a huge music library & I’m not a fan of streaming music.
It sounds niche, but apple really should be including a radio tuner on the iPod Touch like it did with the iPod Nano. It would give you access to radio off of wifi, and help build into the dedicated music player theme.
Why not? Some of us has HUMONGOUS music libraries that we like taking with us. Sharing space on an iPhone would be unimaginable. I still use my iPod classic with the metal/aluminum back, the click wheel. Just feels like a beautiful and classic product for me. Gets the job done, too.

Recently I digged out my old iPod classic for listening to music ONLY. No Messages, no notifications, no interference. Just music. I love it!

This is pretty accurate. My iPod Touch was my first introduction to the Apple ecosystem. This led me to buy an iPhone and an iPad later on. I still use my iPod. I love it because I have a large music collection and I want a dedicated device just for music that I can carry around without draining the battery or taking up space on my iPhone. I feel comfortable knowing that I can go on a walk with my iPod and if it happens to get lost or stolen then at least it’s not my phone (which is arguably more important than a music device) that I have to replace.

I'm one of those people who likes a dedicated player. I have thousands upon thousands of songs I've collected, many of which are rarities that will never exist on Spotify or Apple Music, so I'm glad the option of an iPod is still available to me.
I bought my kid an iPad like 2 years ago and his birthday is coming on june 12, and I have never seen this much loyalty toward a brand before. He had a few android tablets before and generally used to hop to new brands when we bought a new tablet. The same happened with his clothes, and generally all the items, he didn't care about the brand enough to stick to it, but after I bought the iPad , this year he's begging for either and apple watch series 7 or an iPad air or pro, and even said to wait till the new apple launch event this year, rather than buy the iPad or watch straight on his birthday. I think an apple watch will be more useful, because he has gotten into somewhat small accidents before, when both of us were at work, and while they were somewhat small accidents, it's worrying about what could have happened.

I don't know about you, but I can't afford the $$$$ monthly fees charged by mobile phone companies. However, I get most of what I need WITHOUT the "smartphone" part, which I don'tt need. (I have a "pay-as-you-go" cellphone for emergencies which costs $100/year.) The fact that I can use it as a music player is a bonus, and there are useful apps, even if I don't waste time playing games. (Plus, iTunes doesn't have, say, Aidan James, Pure Heart, The Hawaiian Style Band, or Streetlight Cadence in the online store.)

Create an iPod with the form factor of the classic, with streaming capabilities to Apple Music through SIM card and a headphone jack and I think they'll find a niche market to bring bring back the iPod.

I wasn’t interested in the iPhone when it was introduced, but then my employer provided me with an iPod Touch to use as a PDA, which worked really well for my needs at the time. Then I started thinking it would be great if it also could handle phone calls and texting so that I wouldn’t have to carry two devices. Oh right, that’s an iPhone. 🙈

iPods have a cool nostalgia aesthetic which is the best reason I want one.
Besides when I was young I wanted an iPod solely for movie viewing on the go when portable DVD players were too expensive, but I never got one of these critters and still don't have one today. I do have its cable though.
What you say makes perfect sense, but I think there's another main reason why Apple decided to sell this new iPod Touch: gaming.
They talked about their new gaming service in the last keynote and this would be a great way to sell it, specially to parents. Having to choose between a 300$ Switch or a 199$ iPod Touch, they'll probably go with the Apple product, which also allows music, TH-cam and many other apps. I think it's a pretty smart move.

Could always get them a 3DS or 2DS. Personally, I'm not fond of the current cell phone gaming ecosystem. Basically they all have timers, alternate currencies, loot boxes, and other systems that basically make them feel cookie cutter and often get in the way of playing the game itself. Hey I want to play a game, but ten minutes later it wants me to wait several hours for something to complete. Well okay I guess they don't want me playing the game then, I think I'll just go back to playing on a dedicated gaming device where games don't limit play time.
By the way, the Switch does have TH-cam.

And the 3DS is barely gonna get any new games now that Switch is the primary focus for NIntendo. Also, any Nintendo game on 3DS still costs 40$ and you can get iOS games for """free""" or for just few dollars. And that's what parents look at.

As a massive music fan, I love having a dedicated music player. I hate having songs interrupted by texts, calls, emails, and alerts. For someone with a library of 8,000+ songs it's difficult to fit all of that onto a phone without killing space or battery life. I know the day is coming when the iPod will die, and on that day there will be no way to enjoy music by itself any longer on a portable device. I'll simply have to pick and choose certain albums and then be annoyed when they're constantly interrupted by my phone.
You do realize you can make it so that only certain notifications appear righ?
Also, there is nothing preventing something like a “don’t disturb mode” to appear so that you can toggle notifications stopping music on and off easily

I received my first Apple product on my 16th birthday- it was an iPod Touch. I immediately fell in love with it and used it more for internet browsing and apps than I did for music. This was all the way back in 2010 and I was using this as my primary device whilst using a HTC phone. HTC was great, but Apple’s interface was just far superior and in 2012 I got my first iPhone 4S. 2015, I got the iPhone 6S. 2017 it was the iPhone 7+. 2019 the iPhone 11 and now 2022 the iPhone 13.
My primary laptop has been a MacBook- the Air from 2014-2020 and the Pro from 2020- Present. The only gadgets I don’t use of Apple’s are my wireless earphones and other accessories since I feel Samsung does superior products there for better prices. Otherwise, I’m a loyal and dedicated Apple user.
I have a 6th gen iPod that I specifically bought for work a few years ago. I listen to music all during my shifts, so I wanted to have as much music on it as I could for whatever I’m in the mood for. I love it. I also don’t use streaming services. I buy from iTunes, but also my older music is imported from CDs.

When I was 3, I remember playing on my old iPod Touch 1G, and I would follow with the iPod Touch 4G, then the iPad Mini 2 + LTE, to the iPhone 6 Plus, and lastly at the iPhone X. Over time, I also got a Mac and an Apple Watch, and have become accustomed to the Apple ecosystem, all starting from a single device I had as a toddler.

I still use my iPod Nano 6th gen every weekday in the car as I commute some 70 kms daily. Just plug it into the car stereo system. Love it. What a pity the Nano has been discontinued. I don't like using my smartphone to play music because of storage and battery issues.

I remember when I was 10 I had my first apple device, an iPod 4th gen which only ran up to iOS 6.1
I’d honestly say they still make it for parents to give to their kids since you can still use iMessage but can’t run up their data plan. Plus it would get people into the “ecosystem”
I am in charge of the production department in our church. I have an iPod touch set up in 2 locations in our building, one in our main sanctuary and one on our youth group sound system. Both have Apple Music on them and they’re used only to play music for services and other occasions. Both are on Apple docks so they sit upright, and both are plugged in to a smart plug so I can keep a schedule on them so the batteries don’t wear out.
Former iOS developer here. One big reason they still sell well is the developers. We usually try to test our apps on all iOS devices before pushing them to production(App Store). iPod Touch is the most low power iOS hardware out there, so if our app works smoothly on iPod Touch, it will surely work better on the iPhones 99% of the time.

Listening to music on an iPhone is not fun. Besides, I’ve got a huge music library & I’m not a fan of streaming music.
It sounds niche, but apple really should be including a radio tuner on the iPod Touch like it did with the iPod Nano. It would give you access to radio off of wifi, and help build into the dedicated music player theme.
Why not? Some of us has HUMONGOUS music libraries that we like taking with us. Sharing space on an iPhone would be unimaginable. I still use my iPod classic with the metal/aluminum back, the click wheel. Just feels like a beautiful and classic product for me. Gets the job done, too.
