iPod Touch is actually still a useful device nowadays because it’s so simple and stable. It is in fact working as my home remote control that I only install apps that are necessary, controlling my air-con, lights, TV and stuff… HomeKit remote control with coloured monitor and a fancy look, I love it.
At this point, I would be buying a refurbished one on ebay and those places. It would be great for Apple to release something like that in the future though cause I love having a device that only plays music and nothing else

We actually use iPods in our business for maintenance staff to log and review work orders. Too big of an expense for new phones when all they need is a cheap, pocketable device with WiFi connectivity.
You aren't thinking about software support. iOS is supported and updated far longer on an iPod than it is on a cheap Android phone, which means security updates and software compatability with the apps we use for longer.
Oh trust me, for personal use I stay far away from apple products, they aren't my cup of tea. But for business reasons I can't complain at all about how they have filled the role we put them in.

The iPod 4 was nostalgic. And I say that because I made a lot of friends and got a gf during the time period I had it, everyone else had it too lol. Plus it had a camera, the ones before didn’t. These are mostly used for businesses and it turns the device into a point of sale station or a handheld scanner if you pair it with a sledge/case with a scanner. I have seen these being used in warehouses, specially for online retail. Some stores like Banana Republic still uses older versions for checking inventory in store or making orders for clients.
It’s 2023, and yes, last week, I went to Uniqlo and lo and behold, the promoters were all using an iPod similar to these to easily check their inventories. Never thought I’d seen these anymore in the wild like that.

Nope, no GPS; the iPod Touch does have "Location Services" but it uses various Wi-Fi signals to "estimate" your location, which can be quite accurate, it's just that means you need to be in an area where there is Wi-Fi (that you have access to) if you want to use your iPod to "estimate" your location. However, you could use your phone as a mobile Wi-Fi "Hotspot", for your iPod to connect with, to use your phone with your iPod to "estimate" your location on your iPod (using your phone as a Wi-Fi "Hotspot"), it's just that, well, why bother, if/when you have your phone on you, you can just use your phone's GPS to find out exactly where you are, so there would then obviously be no need for you to use your iPod to "estimate" where you are, using various Wi-Fi Access Points. Basically, if you're taking your iPod with you, you'll probably have your phone on you anyway, so the iPod's "Location Services" are sorta pointless and useless; I believe Apple include "Location Services" on the iPod Touch, so people just "assume" it has GPS, just like people assume iMacs/MacBook Airs/Pros, (None-Cellular) iPads have GPS, when they also use various Wi-Fi Signals and Access Points to, again, "estimate" your location. I guess most people would just assume, that because Apple products (MacBooks, for example) are so expensive (for what you actually get, compared to other, similar specification Laptops/PCs/Net Books etc.) and MacBooks also have "Location Services", that "must mean" they have GPS technology/capabilities built in to them and are included in the computer's hardware, but, there is definitely no GPS chip in MacBooks or iPads either (unless you get an iPad 3G, for example, and put a SIM card in it). I use mine every day. But not for $100. I got mine used for $10. Even with a $30 battery replacement that’s a great deal!

Same. The last one i did that was in August of 2016. I can't have a new one now because my 2016 phone still lives with a few minor scratches on its screen. Scratches, not cracks. And it doesn't have a screen protector. It's also got wet a few times but its still okay, not water resistant even. Aside from the earphones, and the charger, my phone still lives and functions like i just bought it last week.
What I do remember about the first iPods were, they were made "strictly" like music devices...I believe they should have left it that way hence, reducing the confusion and still making them easily recognisable.
5 years later, it looks like an even better purchase than before. Modern phones are massive, extremely massive next to the iPod Touch which is the same size as an iPhone 5. Going for a run using this as your music listening device is going to be significantly better than using a more recent iPhone. I think as a strictly music listening device, it doesn’t get better than the 2019 iPod Touch for most people. Perhaps some people would prefer the small size of the iPod Nano, but the touch can do more.
I love mine as a no distractions music device. Phone in bag, iPod on desk, no notifications or apps to distract me. If I have that itch to pick up a device I pick it up and put it straight back down
It's crazy how much I was able to fit in with 8gb, it really taught me how to work with storage and not to take for granted how I have 500+gb in my phone now lol

Exactly. I have the Focal Stellia as my primary headphones and you're not getting the sounds you should with an iPhone XS using a dongle. Now I carry around the iPod touch as my secondary device just to listen to music. It's much cheaper than buying those hifi Sony Walkman music players and much faster than those older iPhones with headphone jacks.
He might’ve turned on auto app purchases ...(idk) . But the reason the apps are still there is because it supports the latest version of iOS , so it has the App Store (and it doesn’t make a huge difference if developers don’t allow support for iPod )...

For music most would be ok with be the OG iPods and MP3s, the ones who didn't have apps, just music. I used my iPod 4th and 5th for everything, gaming, TH-cam, Facebook, Instagram, editing pics and vids (downloaded many apps for that), downloading any app I wanted, just like I'd do on an iPhone. Rarely used it for music. My friends did the same with their iPods (used it as an iPhone). And my iPods all lasted like 5-6 years, which is good. So in other words, the iPods have all those apps because you can USE them, just like on an iPhone, Not because they are decorations or because he had auto app purchases turned on. AM3X he said it lasted 2 years for him whilst the iPhone lasted 6 years (so 3x as long). Even if we calculate with the $1.600 iPhone we get about the same prce per year - even though the 6 year probably was an iPhone SE/5 so it was cheaper per year.

GPS is not listed as a spec, and most places say it doesn't have GPS. It's surprisingly hard to find that info.

Nope, no GPS; the iPod Touch does have "Location Services" but it uses various Wi-Fi signals to "estimate" your location, which can be quite accurate, it's just that means you need to be in an area where there is Wi-Fi (that you have access to) if you want to use your iPod to "estimate" your location. However, you could use your phone as a mobile Wi-Fi "Hotspot", for your iPod to connect with, to use your phone with your iPod to "estimate" your location on your iPod (using your phone as a Wi-Fi "Hotspot"), it's just that, well, why bother, if/when you have your phone on you, you can just use your phone's GPS to find out exactly where you are, so there would then obviously be no need for you to use your iPod to "estimate" where you are, using various Wi-Fi Access Points.
Basically, if you're taking your iPod with you, you'll probably have your phone on you anyway, so the iPod's "Location Services" are sorta pointless and useless; I believe Apple include "Location Services" on the iPod Touch, so people just "assume" it has GPS, just like people assume iMacs/MacBook Airs/Pros, (None-Cellular) iPads have GPS, when they also use various Wi-Fi Signals and Access Points to, again, "estimate" your location.
I guess most people would just assume, that because Apple products (MacBooks, for example) are so expensive (for what you actually get, compared to other, similar specification Laptops/PCs/Net Books etc.) and MacBooks also have "Location Services", that "must mean" they have GPS technology/capabilities built in to them and are included in the computer's hardware, but, there is definitely no GPS chip in MacBooks or iPads either (unless you get an iPad 3G, for example, and put a SIM card in it).
Anyway, hope that helps.

200 bucks for iPhone 7 performance, I would call that a deal. If you can make do with the screen. Some people use sampletank to run their MIDI keyboards, so this will still be quite good.

Same. The last one i did that was in August of 2016. I can't have a new one now because my 2016 phone still lives with a few minor scratches on its screen. Scratches, not cracks. And it doesn't have a screen protector. It's also got wet a few times but its still okay, not water resistant even. Aside from the earphones, and the charger, my phone still lives and functions like i just bought it last week.

What I do remember about the first iPods were, they were made "strictly" like music devices...I believe they should have left it that way hence, reducing the confusion and still making them easily recognisable.

5 years later, it looks like an even better purchase than before. Modern phones are massive, extremely massive next to the iPod Touch which is the same size as an iPhone 5. Going for a run using this as your music listening device is going to be significantly better than using a more recent iPhone.
I think as a strictly music listening device, it doesn’t get better than the 2019 iPod Touch for most people. Perhaps some people would prefer the small size of the iPod Nano, but the touch can do more.
An apple watch might be better though, since you can save offline playlists on the watch and use it as a fitness tracker ad well while running

Exactly. I have the Focal Stellia as my primary headphones and you're not getting the sounds you should with an iPhone XS using a dongle. Now I carry around the iPod touch as my secondary device just to listen to music. It's much cheaper than buying those hifi Sony Walkman music players and much faster than those older iPhones with headphone jacks.
Or get an android phone for half that, which is also expandable and makes music listening so much more streamlined.

Most people buy the iPods to have the same/similar experience they would have on an iPhone, but in a cheap device, not just because of music. For music most would be ok with be the OG iPods and MP3s, the ones who didn't have apps, just music.
I used my iPod 4th and 5th for everything, gaming, TH-cam, Facebook, Instagram, editing pics and vids (downloaded many apps for that), downloading any app I wanted, just like I'd do on an iPhone. Rarely used it for music. My friends did the same with their iPods (used it as an iPhone). And my iPods all lasted like 5-6 years, which is good.
So in other words, the iPods have all those apps because you can USE them, just like on an iPhone, Not because they are decorations or because he had auto app purchases turned on. These iPods are not just meant for listening to music like the video said, that's why they have screens and apps like an iPhone.
