You saved me a ton of time and frustration. I unscrewed the back and pushed them back down and it started working again. I think my daughter dropped it, and you saved me from buying a new drill. Cheers from Arizona, USA.

A good suggestion for replacement tools for you to buy might be a set of JIS screwdrivers, (Japanese Industry Standard) not sure if they are used on drills and such like. Japanese motorcycles certainly use the JIS standard. They are different to Philips screwdrivers at the tip, makes getting stubborn screws out where using a Philips driver has the tip slipping out of the screw head. (cam action) for years I struggled using Philips screwdrivers on Japanese motorcycles, bought a set of JIS screwdrivers and have not looked back. Stripping Japanese carbs is so much easier since using the proper tools for the job. Great video by the way, thanks for upload, about to order some brushes for my brothers Makita drill. Thanks, Vinny.

I have a Makita 18v drill that after a few uses won't hold the torque. It works for the first but but then I'm guessing the clutch won't hold ?? Indont know if that's what you call it. Any ideas what the issue is and is it an easy fix?
I think I might have burnt out the clutch possibly . . .

Good clear helping people video. Replacing worn out carbon brushes is how I fixed a washing machine for £20 of new brushes cos someone else on TH-cam told me . Any electric motor not working after years of use? Unplug and have a look.

Thank you! Came here because I tried using my drill to mix some mortar, and it started to smoke. It still runs but seams to have weakened in its power and smells when I turn it on. Doesn't seem to smoke, but haven't tried running it too much either. It's almost brand new. Should I still check the brushes?

    • @Finntheweekendwarrior
      @Finntheweekendwarrior  4 ปีที่แล้ว

There is no harm checking your brushes, however they normally wear out over time and not because of high load.
Without looking at it I would assume you have heated up the insulation on the coils to much and have a partial short on your windings

Just cured a drill for a friend by banging the side of the back of the main body where the brushes are (not the handle) with my hand (could try a rubber mallet). The hit jolted the brushes till they made contact and the drill ran. Since the drill was relatively unused, the brushes were probably stuck after months of non-use. Would shooting a bit of silicone in there be a good idea?
So next time, just bang the drill a little bit instead of trying to shake it to gain contact.

got an issue with my DHP481
    the light isn't working
the cable was pinched and I fixed it, now it has continuity and the LED's themselves work too
I'm getting power at the connector, but as soon as I plug the light in they just don't work and there's no power
    there's no short(checked for that)
any clue what might cause this?
maybe something else is wrong with the light and I can just replace that?

Even with carpal tunnel bearing down on me I still use hand tools most of the time. I find it helps my mind with troubleshooting. I fix, and have fixed just about everything. I don't use them unless I have to typically with small plastic stuff like this it can strip out almost everything I find, unless you baby it to death.

"Car manufacturers are assholes" is why I am mad at Ford for engineering nightmares.
Broken leaf spring, eye/shackle bolts must be destroyed for removal, and special size cost $70 for 4 bolts and nuts.
