Is it possible for only one brush to function while the other does not and drill still usable?

LXPH03 when the trigger goes bad: it can send +20v and -20v across the battery(BAAAD) and melt the brush holders and mosfet in the process. I guess it was waterlogged or something because I found it on the side of the road yeeears ago.
fixed mine by getting a new trigger assembly but maaan that set me back like 40 bucks
I still have it today :)

Dude replace the brushes once you put the motor with the brush holder in the casing first.
its much simpler as You have possibly done many times be for.;-)

have you tried pulling the gear and bearing off the armature? I wonder if it is possible to change the bearing without damaging the gear

I have, there manufactured in such a way the gear is pressed on. I actually broke the gear trying it.

I've got a dhr264 drill. Had it diagnosed as being the armature... I've just fitted a new armature, but not new brushes. Still no go. Brushes seem ok, though I don't know what could be wrong with them. When I put the voltmeter on the brushes, I get a good voltage... Do you think new brushes would make a difference? I have some on order.

May be, but have you checked the trigger, is working correctly, there is a video on how to test for power it is basically a on and off switch , with a protection

Nice easy video. I've "inherited" a dff482, Brushes were damaged so bought neww ones. Now I find that one of the magnets on the armature is loose (possibly damaged) I presume that best way is to replace the armature? I.e. armature cannot be fixed? Tnx

as its a spinning part and can cause more damage if it brakes off I would just replace it. there not much to buy and easily replaced.

    Hello.
The brushes are placed last, after the housings are assembled.
    It is much easier

I agree much easier to reassemble the tool then do the brushes & springs
