Thank you Mrs Joan! I’ve been so stressed about how to store all the veggies I’m growing. I only have a small garden and I’m learning. I appreciate your help
I’m not gonna lie I only saw your video cause it was the shortest. 😂 Thanks for sharing got some do real quick before they go bad & gotta be at work in a hour ♥️
Oh thank u. I’ve got squash I need to put up but my granny always blanched them THEN flash freeze them. I’m happy to know I can skip that step. It’s such a pain We didn’t have a good squash planting last year. We had those ole squash borers. This year I had my hubby plow up a new spot in what we call the “north 40” lol. It’s further away from the house and I had to Jerry rig me a hose to go that far but my squash sure does look nice this year :)
@@AtHomewithMrsJoan I sure appreciate it! My dad (he was also a pastor) was raised in Huntsville, and my mother in GA, so what you share reminds me so much of how we do things. I had always put the squash in the bag and frozen together, so this video, and the way you prepare your frozen squash have been so helpful!
Thank you Mrs.Joan God bless you . We have a garden & I’ve been doing something similar to your technique here , just not as sufficient 😩☺️ New subscriber
I got a garden going this year and I've never seen so many squash in my life. My dad is a legit farmer so he gave me pointers on how to grow but now I'm covered in squash. I want to sell eventually but I haven't gotten set up for that yet. So in the meantime I'm gonna freeze it and make use of it. Maybe give some to the neighbors too, lol.
Donate to local churches who have food programs for the lower income and families with children...I'm sure they would appreciate the fresh veggies...I'm going to plant 3 rows of vegetables that put out continuously for our local community churches...
Thank you Miss Joan and thank you, Preacher. ❤ The only time I ever froze squash I blanched it before freezing. It was not a very desirable outcome. I have used flash freezing on other things and it worked well.
I clicked on yours because it in part because it was the shortest. But now that I've watched it, I'm interested in the rest of your channel. So thanks for the fast lesson, we have a ton of squash. Would you know how to freeze or preserve tomatoes?
Thank you. I can my tomatoes just haven't been able to make a video yet. You can also freeze them. Some folks just core them and put in a freezer bag without any cooking. Easy! Up to you if you peel them first, or put in hot boiling water for a couple minutes, move to pan of ice water and peeling comes off real easy! Then cool and freeze.
Hello. Thank you for the video. I just found you on TH-cam. Quick question, after freezing, are you only able to fry the frozen squash or can you bake it or steam it? Or does freezing only allow you to fry it?
I know what I will be doing tomorrow!!! Married to a preacher too. Do you have a recipe for using the frozen squash in a squash casserole? Thank you much. God Bless.
Just found you. Some people are fly-bys, the rest of us watch to learn no matter how long the video is. This is my 1st time freezing ANYTHING & I'm missing my Grandma more than I can say. I noticed you're not blanching. I have some from last farmer's market trip that didn't get put up right away bcz we caught (another) case of Covid. I'm going to blanche those (paranoia) & freeze them. They weren't slimey at all bcz they were larger & a little on the dry side. I trashed the zucchini bcz it was slick during slicing, not before. That's probably just the way zucc is but I'm not sure so yeah ... Paranoia dump. Got some fresh yellow squash yesterday & I would love to not blanche & flash freeze in thin discs for frying or oven roasting. Your feedback would be appreciated! Especially if you think I should toss the 2 week old squash. TFS!!!
Zucchini shouldn't be slimmy so I'd toss it. I'd wash good with a little soapy water the non-slimmy squash, slice, and do the flash freezing. If you've kept it good and cold the two weeks and it still looks fresh, freeze it! It'll be great! I have a separate video on cooking squash after it's frozen. I miss my mom and grandma so much too.
@@AtHomewithMrsJoan Thanks so much! I know it sounds odd, but I bought peas & beans just so I could shell them & think about all the summers spent shelling & shucking on my Grandma's porch. Sweet memories for me & she'd be so proud that I did her part of the job by "putting them up" too.
I remember shucking corn and shelling peas and snapping green beans. Didn't realize how much I'd miss doing that with my mom and grandma. Your grandma and mine would be so proud we are carrying on their training!
We've eaten them 2 years later. Will have more ice crystals but it washes off in the process. It goes so fast at our house usually 1 year and they need replenishing.
Everything we buy now gets more expensive. You might be right. I need to research more items that might replace the wax paper. Any ideas TH-cam friends?
Trust me it works. You are squeezing out the water you rinsed them with and the liquid from any ice crystals that formed while frozen. Crazy, but it works!
I appreciate the shorter video you got straight to the point. I learned everything I needed to know. Thank you.
I try to keep them to the point!

Does it taste good steamed after you've frozen it? Or sauteed? Does it change the texture?
No it seems the same to me.

No never.

No just wash it off and cut in slices.

Hope it helps! Also watch my How to Cook Frozen Squash video. Let me know when you cook some!
