This video was a great find. Mom asked about this so I did a TH-cam search. Tell me, after blanching you still have to finish cooking the potatoes according to what type of dish you're preparing right? I'm guessing there's no way to freeze fully cooked potatoes, right? Any ideas on how to accomplish this? 🙏🏾
Wow 🤩, my mind is blown away... I used to buy a 5lb bag of potatoes and the bag would sit in the pantry and go bad. I never knew this... now I’m going to have potatoes anytime and save 💰💰💰. Thank you so much for sharing.
@Barbara. I have been in the same boat as you, having a 5lb bag go bad and turn into brown smelly water! Now I know what to do.
Same here, Barbara. Taught to not freeze potatoes, but companies sell frozen FF & mashed so why not? Have some now I need to freeze before they rot!
Thank you all for watching and commenting, really appreciate it
@@ByEyahow long do they keep once frozen? What's your process when you're ready to use them?
Sorry , but what do you do with the bags ? Do you have to freeze them while waiting to use them .@@ByEya
I use my Instant Pot to steam the cut potatoes before freezing. Steam for 1 minutes, let the pressure release for 3 minutes, cool and then freeze. I have also parboiled them too. And I use my Food Processor to dice them or slice them. I've never shredded them and froze them though.
Great Video. Thanks very much.
Thank you for all those great ideas, I like the steam idea, it will take less water since is in the instant pot. Do you put a lot of potatoes when you do it this way?
Cause when I do my eggs (I have a short in the channel) I put as many eggs as I want and just little of water, all the eggs cook perfectly
this was great. there was a huge sale on potato at my local supermarket that we bought too many. now I can make bags of different potato stuff, some wedges, chips, have some potato ready for mash too. And also roast potatoes! thanks for this video.
Thanks for the tips. My hubby goes to the farmers market and buys potatoes in 50# bags and they start to go bad before I can use them all. This is a game changer…thanks again.
I am part Irish and I love my potatoes. Thank you so much for this video. I am definitely going to try this. I always buy a big bag of potatoes and can never finish them all. This is awesome.
Nice presentation. Right to the point without wasting time. TY Will use this method.
Thank you really appreciate it🙏
Thank you so much for this video! With groceries prices going so high I have been using Instant potatoes and store bought frozen potatoes! This is definitely a game changer!
Thank you for watching and supporting my channel
That’s why I’m watching because of the price of food going up and up and up
Very helpful! I'm prepping potatoes 🥔 and onions 🌰 today. BTW, I'm Jamaican and we put potatoes I'm lots of dishes...soups and curry chicken etc. Again, great video short and sweet!
I love Jamaican food😍😍😍
Yeah potatoes is our best friend in this house, between my husband's Jamaican food and my Tunisian food my freezer is always stuck up😁
Girl I just soaked and scrubbed the potatoes and prepping. This is so great
I’m Irish. Idk what it has to do with cooking potato’s, but I’m Irish.
@@Mrpoopgo12 Irish stew in the name of the Law.
I love food prep and I have to freeze because it's just me, but groceries are cheaper when bought in bulk so I spend a day cutting and freezing onions and bell peppers and other veggies and I spend an entire day meal prep cooking. I am a truck driver and work 5 days, so when I get home for my 2 days off I don't want to spend half the say cooking and cleaning. I pick one day of the month for shopping and prepping and can easily go 2 months just thawing and reheating my meals plus I have meals I take on the road with me. It's saved me so much money compared to nasty truck stop food 😅.
With this economy every penny counts.
Waste not want not so frozen taters will be great
Phenomenal kitchen prep tip. My New Year’s goal is to cook more and waste less.
All professional kitchens have prep cooks, so I guess it’s pretty obvious that the solution for home cooks is the same.
It never occurred to me to freeze potatoes. Thank you.
Thank you for watching
Love freezing anything that I can. Appreciate your help with the potatoes. 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wonderful presentation. Easy to follow and to the point.
Thank you
Best for new potatoes , so you have that fresh garden taste and smell in winter...
Blessings to you and yours Mrs. Eya and to those reading this message...I personally have been freezer prepping foods and made that mistake with my raw French fries...Soooo because I DO NOT like wasting food I thawed and paper toweled them and sauted'em in less than an inch of olive oil inside a cast iron skillet with some sliced an diced onions, and some seasonings and WAALLA!! They turned out to be soooo delicious! BUUT I will remember to blanch my potatoes first Lol!! Thank u!🤳🏻☺️👍✨
Our local gas station has been selling nice big Idaho potatoes $2 for 10# vs $9 for 10# at the local Festival grocery store. I keep going back and getting more once I have processed a couple bags so I don’t waste the bounty. Thanks, this is very good info!! Processed potatoes are getting so expensive and who knows what they are treated with.
I was just complaining to my husband that I’m buying bagged potatoes and then they rot, and then I had the idea to look up how to freeze them up, and here you are! Thank you for simple, helpful instructions without a lot of small talk. ❤️🙏🏻👵
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to write a comment, I really appreciate it.
Wonderful video, and considering how potatoes have gone sky high in price? This is priceless! Thank you for this!
Your amazing. I have never learned how to cook. But I started watching you one day, and I was quite surprised how easy it was. You really have changed my life. The things I have learned from you has taught me not to be afraid to go into the kitchen. It’s awesome. 😎 Thank you for sharing your videos. I’ll definitely keep watching you. Thanks again. 🎉👍💜😃
You are the amazing one!!!! You made my day with this comment, really appreciate it ♥️
Blanching tip:
Filll a larger container or sink with water and ice then put your par cooked potatoes in a colander and put it down in the ice water then when retrieving cool blanched vegetables you don't have to separate potatoes from ice cubes.
That’s smart 😍 thank you for the advice
The ice is usually melted by the time the potatoes cool down
@@ohShnapssadd more ice ;-)
GRATITUDE 💥🤩💥
This was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for all of your suggestions and advice!
Glad I was able to help and Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write a comment, really appreciate it
I love potato skins and they are costly at the restaurant, as well as, the supermarket. I tried freezing potatoes b4. What a mess! I just received a 10lb bag of medium sized ones. I am gonna prepare them for making potato skins. Thanks for sharing.
This video is great! I just bought 20 lbs of potatoes on sale for 5 dollars and this is perfect

Thank you so much Eya! I buy potatoes and they start sprouting and going bad every time, I'm going to start doing this, i dont like the bagged french fries because they have so much added oil, this way i can make them with the skin on which is healther. I love the idea of using the apple tool to cut them too! ❤

This is perfect, glad it was recommended! I’m growing my own produce this year so now I know how to freeze potatoes; I’m growing yellow gold and sweet potatoes. Ty! ❤️

@ByEya
Makes sense...Thank you.
This is great! In fact I have a bag of potatoes sprouting in my closet right now!
I never thought to use the apple cutter for potatoes. I love my kitchen gadgets but I restrict myself by only buying tools that have at least two uses. I can know buy the apple tool. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I actually never thought to freeze blanched potatoes. I haven't had much success freezing homemade mash, croquettes, gnocchi etc so I'll be trying your technique.

Thank you for watching
Great video. Will try this tomorrow so my potatoes won't ruin.
Do we start counting the 5 minutes blanching time from when we put the potatoes into the boiling
water OR after the water comes to boil again? Excellent instructions. Thank You for Sharing.
Hello. Thank you for watching,
Once the water is boiling you add the potatoes and start counting right away
@@ByEya thanks...I wondered about that too.
So glad I watched you video. Almost froze them raw. Thank you!
Thank you for watching 🥰
I bought a few bags of potatoes when it’s on sale $0.99 for a 5 lb bag. Thanks for ideas what to do with them. 😊
Thank you! Quick question: what is the defrosting process? If I want to make mashed potatoes, for example, do I simply defrost them at room temperature and then boil, can I boil them from a frozen state or do I place potatoes in the fridge to defrost?
Hello. Thank you for watching.
Do not defrost prior to cooking.
Just boil your water and then throw the frozen potatoes there for couple minutes.
@@ByEya Thank you! 😊
@@LadyVioIa my pleasure🥰
Do the same if going in the oven?
Wow thank you very much. I am very impressed. Will give it a definate try.

I'm here like the rest of you because things are getting a little dicey and was told that you couldn't freeze potatoes. Grocery prices are going through the roof and instant potatoes kinda suck balls. Thank you for providing this video. Heading to the store tomorrow for some taters while I can.
thank you for watching and good luck
The apple slicer hack! Omg! So smart!
Thank you so much. Really appreciate your support
I like the tip of putting them in the ice 🥰
Yes that's the best way to stop the cooking process
Very helpful and exactly what I needed to know. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to write a comment, really appreciate it
Thank you .. wasn’t aware you could do that. Will certainly try it.
I just harvested 14 pounds of potatoes from my garden. I will be keeping skins on for wedges and cubes. Thank you!!!

I am glad I could help
Great information!! Thank you 😊👍👏
Wonderful. Freezer prepping g before baby, we eat lots of potatoes. Thank you
wow! I never thought of cutting the potatoes with a apple slicer, I have one 1⃣, will organize my freezer and and cut them before they go bad. I usually just make mashed potatoes and potatoe weggies. Good idea. how long do they keep in the Freezer?.
For making stove top potatoes, such as fried potatoes, do you just cook from frozen as you do when boiling for mashed?
Top notch. Good education, thank you very much.
Nice one. I will put that in to practice.
thank you, Really appreciate it
Thank you. I just processed 10lbs of potatoes and they're sitting in the freezer now.
Amazing 🤩
What a good idea thanks.
Super helpful, thank you!!!!! ♥️
Thank you for watching
Love this - thank you! Question - how long will they keep in the freezer? Thanks!
Hi, 4 months is the best, if you can airtight them you can go to 6 months
Thanks and bless you. I tried today, hopefully it will end up as was expected of it! 👍
Good, fast easy explanation! Thanks!
Great plan! How do you prepare your whole potatoes from frozen? Can you use cubes to make potato salad?
You have to cook the potatoes straight from the freezer, you can’t just throw them and eat them
Thank you, I'mma buy pre frozen
Never knew you cold freeze tatoes. That's very convenient, I parboil my potatoes before making them in the Air Fryer to make Roasties x
If they sell it frozen at the store that’s a good way to know that you can 🥰
@@ByEya At the store they are already cooked :o
Thanks for the information
Hi...do we need a salt for blanching? Thank u so much
Brilliant really helpfull,great
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching
Very very helpful! Thanks so much!
Is the blanching time the same for whole potatoes??
never defrost whole frozen potatoes in a bag in room temperature, they WILL go rotten and turn into a smelly paste. learned that the hard way.
Never defrost any of those potatoes like that, you have to use them frozen either to cook them or to bake them
Very simple video to follow and straight to the point. Hoping to see many other videos; I subscribed😊🤣.
Oh thank you 🙏🙏🙏 that means a lot to me
Interestingly potatoes are freezed in the andes by the high elevation and its freezing night temperatures.
The people add value to the crop because lower down they can't store potatoes and during the lean times they get a better price.
They simply place the potatoes outside on the ground and lightly spray water during the subzero night temperature and then store once dried out. In skin. No peeling
That is interesting, thank you for sharing this with us. I wish I could have a cold room or root cellar to keep my potatoes, onion, garlic, canned food there but as I am in Florida and it is impossible :(
